"Take a deep breath," The brunette man explained as he continued to flip through a book. His gaze focused on the words printed on the paper as he gave instructions. "As you exhale, squeeze the trigger."
The green haired girl did as instructed, but before she could bring herself to pull the trigger, she turned around to glare at her mentor. Feeling the gaze on him, Paul placed a bookmark in his novel and met the gaze of the girl. As much as she appreciated the lessons, she absolutely abhorred how detached the man seemed to be. The man gave her a certain expression that silently asked if she was going to yell at him again or rather back to working on her aim. Sighing deeply, Lux went back to aiming down the sights on the rifle, going back through the steps and reaching the same point she was on. Taking in another deep breath, the green-haired girl exhaled slowly and pulled the trigger. The recoil of the firearm stung her shoulder slightly, but the shattering of the target washed it away with joy.
"Huh, good, keep this up and we might be able to practice with moving targets. But, this should do for today." The brunette man opened his book yet again, waiting for the young girl to gather her things together to leave. As Lux began to empty the rifle of its remaining ammunition, she began to wonder.
"Do you think we'll be ready soon?" The brunette man paused for a moment, deciding to shut his book closed with no further desire to continue later. After all the hard effort the others had been putting into strengthening themselves, there was no doubt the group could hold their own in an all out brawl. However, he knew they still had a ways to go before tackling something as big as the DWMA on their own.
"I'd say we have the training down to the bare essentials, maybe two more months and we'll be good to go,"
A small smile spread across her face upon hearing the estimate, compared to how long it had been since the split, two months was small in comparison. Seeing Paul raise his hand, the smile quickly faded, knowing full well that he had more to say about the subject. "However, we need about a month more to observe and strategize. If anything, this will be less of an assault and more of an infiltration,"
The small smile returned to her face as it wasn't a bad as she anticipated. The brunette man sighed deeply as he began to scratch the back of his head. "I think we should hurry home, I feel like Nico may have hurt Keith badly."
Chills ran down Lux's spine as she remembered how hard the black-haired girl seemed to push herself. It was both inspiring and terrifying at the same time, she had improved her combat skills immensely but at the cost of typically causing harm to her new mentor. Though, it was relieving to know that said mentor could tough out even the worst of injuries. Hearing a small ringtone go off, Paul took a quick glance at the text and let out a quick chuckle.
Upon looking over the text herself, the green-haired girl couldn't help but giggle as well. It wasn't everyday that both mentor and student knocked each other out cold.
"But we should seriously get back, they could be badly hurt."
BACK FROM THE DEAD... Ish... Yeah, honestly there's gonna be more waiting until I finish a different story that I've invested more than an entire year developing ideas alone. However, that's not to say that this story isn't forgotten. I know it seems like a cliché to do a timeskip, however that was gonna be in effect regardless of when I had updated. Though, I apologize immensely and hope that this small short is enough to show both the amount of effort I still put for this story and to satisfy the dry spell. Merry Christmas.
