Ranger stared in awe at the mass that assembled before her. Worgens of all of sizes and colors. Male and female, young and old, there was so many. Ranger shifted smoothly into a human. She had done several times already to keep herself from forgetting the process. The chilly air hit her bare skin and the EvenStar sparkled on her wrist. Ranger fiddled with it. She was planning to fix it and return it to Aragorn as a surprise. Her thoughts turned to him. She hated how they parted ways. She had given no word that she would even return after their spat. She wanted to return on good terms. To be welcomed. It was something that couldn't be changed now. No matter how much she wanted to. She sighed and schooled her sad features as her brother Threy came up to her. In his animal form he was taller than her and the same was for his human form. He was beefy with muscles and shaggy long hair that was a mess and matched his fur. He had dark wild eyes matching her's. "You can't fool me little sister. What has you so down on the hour of battle?" He asked and showed off pearly white teeth, sharp enough to tear flesh. Still it was friendly towards her and Ranger couldn't help but smile at him. "Nothing, Threy, really." Threy looked at her with a side ways glance. His large arms crossing over his chest. A growl formed in his throat to her in annoyance. She sighed. "It's just, well, I left things with Aragorn on bad terms." She scratched at her scalp in awkward silence.
Threy chuckled at her, a deep scratchy sound from the back of his throat. "Oh, don't worry about him. Once this war is over and we reclaim our homeland. He will be a thing of the past." Ranger felt chills flow through her. "And father will find you a nice Worgan to settle with." Threy continued despite the silence. "Our mother will have to approve first." Threy grinned at her. "He may be king but mother is the ruler in our household." Ranger froze in shock. Finally Threy's rambling started to annoy her. "Threy, please be quiet." She sighed and rubbed her brow. "I hope to keep my friendship with Aragorn. He means a great deal to me." She gazed out into the open area, her eyes slightly glazed over. "When I was lost, he found me. He has guided me when I needed a hand to hold." She blushed and crossed her arms in embarrassment. Not believing she had just said that out loud.
"Well, had the Orcs not attacked us while we were weak. You wouldn't have been lost." Threy growled out. His fists clenched in anger. "Orcs?" Ranger asked, more clues to her past were coming together. "Yes, It was just after we left our city. We were scattered and without focus. Father." Threy pursed his lips and shook his head. "Father wasn't the man you see today. He was younger, we were younger." Threy chuckled. "I am sure father didn't tell how many siblings we have but at that time, there were seven pups, yourself included, running around. Our mother was weak from caring for all the young ones and it distracted him." He looked at her with angry black eyes. Fueled with fire. "When the Orcs attacked us, by order of Sauron, we were not prepared." Threy growled loudly and his body trembled. "We lost many people that day, they died to protect the royal family, but it was not enough. In all the fuss, you were and three other pups were lost."
Ranger held a breathe as her brother stopped. It was clear to her that this story was emotional for him and even through she wanted to know more. She was not willing to push him. "We found the three, two brothers and a sister. But you, our youngest, were lost. It devastated our mother." Threy was silent and Ranger couldn't help but think of the woman. The one she once heard in a dream. "Our mother..." She trailed off. "She's alive and well, that day left her wounded and weak." He chuckled and showed off a toothy grin. "She won't fight in another battle but she will live. She is with Mara at the stronghold." Threy told her and Ranger nodded numbly, soaking in the information. "There were seven young ones beside me?" She asked finally. Ranger just wanted to know how big her family was. Threy nodded. "Yes, I am the oldest, Mara is after me. there are three after her and and then the seven and you." Ranger whistled. "That's just..." She trailed off, looking for a word.
"A lot?" Both siblings looked over to see their father. He walked up to them in his human form. A youthful man with long white and red glowing eyes. He was taller by Threy by a mere inch and slimmer but strong. Ranger wondered if any of her siblings had her father's coloring. The pure white and blood red. "In case you have forgotten Finonda, we are a immortal people." Forthar stepped in between them, looking over the army coming close. "We came over here with the Elves, yet we're not as prudish when it comes to reproducing." He gave Ranger a tired looking grin and his face looked old. His glowing eyes peered down at her with a worried, scared look. Like she would disappear before his very eyes. Ranger would never know what her parents went through. The lost of a child, one so young. His eyes held love for her and Ranger was in awe. She barely remembered this many from her youth. Yet his love made her feel warm ans safe. She felt emotions build up in her and words could not express. This man was her father. So many years she had wandered lost without even a thought to the ones who had brought in this world. She had been content, living off her animal completely that family wasn't even a thought that passed through her mind.
This was different from what she felt for Aragorn. The love she felt for the man was something else and yet now she knew. The love for the man was not a bond of family. No, Aragorn had never been family to her. Now, she just needed to know what she felt for him. Ranger looked up to her father. She returned a sheepish smile. "Besides, you should see the size of the of uncle's family. Huge, compared to mine. I think he is making up for the fact he was passed over for King." Forthar whispered to her and Ranger's eyes widened. Was something about her people that felt the need for so many children? "You're meet him. He and many of his children are down there." Forthar tilted his head down to the army.
Forthar clapped a hand over each of their shoulders. "Enough, we can talk more of this when the battle is won." He looked out at the silent army, waiting for the king's battle. "Let's go to war." The howls rang out through the valley and carried in the wind. On the battle ground, Aragorn stopped in his strike. A smile grew on his lips when he heard the sound and thought of Finonda.
