I own nothing

The days flew by and suddenly Magnus found himself on Thursday getting ready for the family who was coming to visit. Magnus had gone by many of these visits before. It hadn't happened for a while since he had arrived with Karen. He had gone through 2 of those visits at Karen's house, but then no one had bothered to see them. In the other foster houses Magnus had stayed at, he had gone through many of these visits though. He was never adopted, obviously, but he had seen how many families came to the house, met all the foster kids and then spent some times with whomever they found interesting. Many kids had left after said visits. Many kids had been adopted when these families came to visit…and Magnus had to admit he was nervous for the one family who was coming that evening. He knew the family would be looking for the little kids, and he feared they would be taking someone from his family.

"Magnus" Karen called from his doorway

"Yeah?" Magnus called fixing the collar of his shirt.

He was wearing a tight-fitted lime-green semi-formal shirt that was tucked under his skinny black jeans. He was wearing purple converse and suspenders that fell over his hips. He had a row of golden earrings on his left ear and had selected a few rings to wear. He had styled his hair in spikes with purple and green glitter. He was also wearing make-up with the same purple and green colors and much more glitter.

"Could you help me with the twins?" Karen asked "They refuse to get ready"

"Yes, of course" Magnus agreed.

"Thanks" Karen said with a smile and walked away.

Magnus gave himself a one more look on the mirror to make sure everything was perfect with his outfit and walked off towards the twin's room. There he found Nick sitting by his bed, all cleaned up with jeans and a green dress shirt. He had his black hair combed back.

The twins however, as Karen had said, had refused to get ready. They were both on their own beds, still in their school's uniform, playing on their DS.

"Alright, what's going on?" Magnus asked closing the door behind him.

"I can't catch this Zygarde" Evan said with a frown, referring to his Pokémon game.

"I have no idea what that is" Magnus said

"It's a Pokémon" Ethan answered for his twin

"Whatever" Magnus waved his hand "Come on, it's time to stop playing and get ready"

"We don't want to get ready" Both twins said at the same time

"Why not?" Magnus sighed

Both of them shrugged, not looking up from their game. Magnus sighed and moved to sit next to Nick. The little kid smile at him and moved to climb into Magnus's lap. Magnus smiled down at Nick and then turned back to the twins.

"Alright, talk" Magnus said

"We don't want to go" Evan said softly, putting down his game.

"You're not going anywhere" Magnus frowned

"Unless that family wants one of us" Ethan said, putting down his game as well. Both of them then turned to look at Magnus with big sad blue eyes.

"There is something you most know" Magnus said softly "There's nothing to be afraid of"

"But what if they take one of us away?" Evan asked "What if they take Nick? Or the girls?"

"No one can leave us" Ethan said, his eyes filling with tears.

"Alright, come here you two" Magnus sighed, gesturing with his arm for them to get closer.

Evan and Ethan climbed off their beds and moved to Nick's bed. They both curled against Magnus, one on each side. Nick, who hadn't said anything yet, curled further against his chest. Magnus heard his sniff softly. Magnus extended his arms and hugged the twins closer to him.

"The family who is coming are looking for a child" Magnus explained carefully "They are good people…any of us would be lucky to get adopted. I know it gets hard, but we have to understand that this is not our home. Yes, we live here, but we have no family. We are orphans…and there are families out there who want to take care of us... If the family who is coming today decides to adopt any of us, we'll end up having a family…isn't that what we all want?"

"We already have a family" Ethan frowned "Why can't we be a family?"

"We all could be siblings and Karen could be our mom" Evan nodded

"I wish it was that easy" Magnus sighed "But here's something…whatever happens today, we'll always be there for each other, yeah? We'll keep seeing each other. I promise you that…Everything's going to be alright"

The three kids nodded and they stayed in the small embrace for a while longer before the twins moved to get ready. Magnus made sure they got dressed and cleaned up nicely and then moved towards the girl's room, to make sure Karen didn't need any help.

He was walking down the hallway when he heard the door bell ring. He stopped in his tracks and he heard everyone else in the house quiet down. Karen walked out of the girl's room and smiled towards Magnus.

"I'll answer that" Karen said "Could you get the kids to the living room once they're inside?"

"Of course" Magnus nodded.

Karen smiled gratefully and moved downstairs to open the door. Magnus could hear her greeting the guests. He waited, trying to recognize the voices, and thankfully he didn't hear Naomi's voice. It would either mean that the social worker hadn't arrived or that she just hadn't talked. Magnus hopped for the first one. He moved towards the girls' room and smiled at them. They had all dressed up pretty nicely. He told them to follow him and they all walked with him towards the boys' room. There he told the boys to also follow them.

"Where we going?" Charlie asked

"Downstairs to meet the family" Magnus answered, walking down the hall towards the staircase. Nick and Danni rushed forward and took one of Magnus's hands each. Magnus smiled at them, taking their small hands, and leaded the way downstairs.

They could hear them talking to Karen in the living room and Magnus directed them in that direction. They reached the door and inside they noticed there were a couple and a teenage boy, around Magnus's age. The couple was normal looking. Typical family-portrait looks. The teenage boy, Magnus noticed, was dressed up nicely, though not as nicely as his parents. He was wearing dark red skinny jeans, a white T-shirt and a black button-down shirt over the white one. The black one was opened all the way so it showed the white shirt underneath. He had long brown hair that fell in waves over one side of his face. He was wearing a black fedora as well and black converse.

"These are the kids" Karen spoke and Magnus turned his attention to her. The kids filled inside the room and stood in a line, one next to the other.

"There's Magnus" Karen introduced him "He's 18 years old"

Magnus just nodded his head towards them, giving them all a small brief look before turning to look away. He knew they would not be adopting him, if their surprised looks were anything to go by. The parents seemed shocked at his choice of outfit, which screamed gay in bright colors. The boy didn't seem too shocked, though he did looked Magnus up and down with a look that made him a bit uncomfortable, but he ignored it. He was used to the attention his bright outfits brought.

"Next to him are Danni and Nick" Karen continued "They are both 8 years old"

The couple smiled at the little kids, and they both shied away from their looks. They clutched tighter on Magnus's hand which they had refused to let go and hid behind him.

"Then there's Alice" Karen said "She's 10 years old"

Alice smiled shyly at the family in front of her. She did, however, waved her hand slightly, gaining a kind smile from the mother of the couple.

"Then come the twins. Ethan and Evan" Karen said "They're both 11 years old"

Ethan and Evan looked at the couple with strange looks before deciding to look away. They did this at the same time and then moved closer to each other, as if afraid that if they moved away, the other would disappear.

"And then there's Charlie" Karen finished "She's 13 years old"

Charlie grinned at them, gaining a bright smile from the couple. She had her arms behind her back and she was swinging her right leg back and forth, a clear sign that she was nervous.

"Well aren't you a nice lot" The mother of the group smiled "My name is Agatha and this is my husband Saul, and my son Rory"

"Nice to meet you" Magnus answered, because he knew none of the kids would talk.

The evening went by. The family, all the kids, and Karen sat down together for supper where the family got the chance to meet all the kids better. As Magnus had guessed, they had taken a liking for the little kids. They talked to Danni, Nick, and Alice the most. Though they were not rude and ignored everyone else, they did seem to prefer them over the oldest.

Eventually, when they were all done eating, the couple asked Karen if they could talk to Nick privately. In that moment everyone knew what was about to come. They had chosen Nick. Little Nick with the messy black hair and stormy blue eyes that sometimes looked more silver, they had chosen him. And even though it wasn't anything defined yet, they all knew what that meant.

So while Karen, Nick and the couple stayed in the living room talking, the rest of the kids and Magnus stayed in the kitchen with Rory.

"Will Nick be leaving?" Danni asked Magnus

"We don't know yet" Magnus told her gently.

"How come you're still here?" Rory asked suddenly

"Excuse me?" Magnus asked with a raised eyebrow

"You're eighteen, right?" Rory asked "You're practically an adult…why are you still here? Can you even still be adopted?"

"One can be adopted at any time no matter their age" Magnus said "And yes, I am an adult, but I still depend on the foster system as long as I'm living here"

"Then why not leave?" Rory asked "It must suck being stuck here…why don't you get your own place and be free from this people?"

"They're like a family to me" Magnus said coldly "I'm not just leaving them"

Suddenly the kitchen door burst open and Nick came running by. Magnus stood up alarmed by the tears streaming down Nick's cheeks. Nick rushed towards him and hugged him tightly. Magnus kneeled down and hugged Nick closer to him.

"Hey…what's wrong?" Magnus asked "Tell me what's wrong Nicky"

"They were being mean" Nick cried against his neck.

Karen walked inside, followed by Agatha and Saul. Rory stood up and moved towards his parents, frowning slightly.

Magnus stood up, taking Nick into his arms. Nick shied away from everyone and hid his face against Magnus's neck.

"What happened?" Magnus frowned "What did you do to him?"

"Magnus" Karen said "Calm down"

"He's crying!" Magnus exclaimed "What did you do?!"

"Magnus!" Karen snapped and Magnus turned silent, though he still glared at the guests.

"We'll be taking our leaving now" Saul spoke

"It was nice meeting you all" Agatha spoke with a smile, but it was obviously faked.

The family left without much else to say. Magnus glared at them until they had closed the door behind themselves.

Karen then told Magnus to put Nick back down. He had stopped crying, but he still looked really upset. Karen then ordered everyone except Magnus to go upstairs. Charlie tried to protest but one look from Karen told her fighting would not be accepted, and so they all left.

"What happened?" Magnus asked quietly

"A difference in beliefs" Karen said vaguely

"Why was Nick crying?" Magnus tried again

"Magnus…I really don't want to talk about it" Karen sighed

"Well too bad!" Magnus exclaimed "Tell me what happened"

"They did some comments…about you" Karen started carefully "They, apparently, aren't as open minded about things like we are"

"You mean they're homophobic" Magnus said easily

"Could say that, yes" Karen sighed "They noticed Nick seemed close to you, so they asked me if Nick had been…influenced by you in any form"

"What is that supposed to mean?" Magnus frowned

"They thought you being close to Nick would have turned him gay" Karen explained "I told them it was ridiculous, of course…But then, Nick not understanding what was being said, asked what was wrong about you…which lead for them to explain that being gay was "wrong" and "disgusting"…though Saul used some really colorful words…I stopped them then, but Nick had already heard them and he got upset because they were being mean to you. Hence, he running off towards you"

"I can't believe those people" Magnus fumed with anger "If they had a problem with me, they should've talked to me! Not in front of a child!"

"They said they hadn't found what they were looking for" Karen explained softly "So thankfully, we won't be seeing them again"

"I can't believe it" Magnus shook his head "Some people just make me sick"

"I know, me too" Karen said "But they're just narrow minded people…there are a lot around the world, sadly. But we can't let those people affect us. What matters now is that we're together, alright?"

"Alright" Magnus nodded with a sigh "Do you mind if we do a campfire tonight?"

"I think that's a good idea" Karen nodded with a smile "The kids don't have school tomorrow…they are building something over the weekend and cancelled classes…would you mind staying with them at home?"

"So I'm not going to school?" Magnus asked with raised eyebrows "Gladly!"

"Great" Karen nodded "I'll be gone all day tomorrow, have some business to attend…but I'll be back with dinner"

"Alright" Magnus nodded "Would you mind taking out the tents? I'll tell the kids about the campfire"

Karen nodded and both of them moved upstairs, though Karen moved towards the cupboard while Magnus stood in the middle of the hallway.

"EVERYONE!" Magnus called "Who is up for a campfire tonight?"

All the kids rushed outside of their rooms and grinned at Magnus. They looked at Karen for reassurance, and she nodded at them, taking out the camp tents and sleeping bags.

"Yay!" All the kids exclaimed

"I'll get the marshmallows" Evan and Ethan cried at the same time and rushed downstairs

"Alice, Danni, and Nick, take all the pillows in our rooms downstairs" Charlie told them. The three kids nodded and rushed towards their rooms "I'll get the blankets"

Magnus grinned and helped Karen with the tents and sleeping bags. They set them all outside and Karen took out the wood for the campfire. They always kept a stock of wood for these special occasions.

Suddenly, Magnus's phone started to ring. Magnus pulled it out of his pocket and noticed it was Alec calling. Magnus smiled and moved inside to answer.

"Hello darling" Magnus purred down the line

"Hey Magnus" Alec said, and Magnus swore he could picture him blushing "How did everything turn out?"

"Could've been better" Magnus shrugged

"Everything ok?" Alec asked

"Just some homophobic jerks" Magnus waved away "At the end they decided not to adopt anyone…"

"Well that's good" Alec said "At least none of you will be leaving"

"Yeah, that's good" Magnus nodded

"What about your father?" Alec asked "Did the social worker say anything?"

"She didn't come today" Magnus said "I guess we should be expecting news from here any time next week…or maybe later"

"So how are you and the kids?" Alec asked

"We're good…Nick was a bit upset about everything, but he'll be alright" Magnus said

"Hey Magnus" Charlie asked walking inside

"Hold on" Magnus told Alec on the phone and then turned towards Charlie "What is it?"

"Could we invite Max?" Charlie asked

"I'm not sure he can come…he's got school tomorrow" Magnus told her

"Are you talking to Alec?" Charlie asked "Could you ask him?"

"Let me see what I can do" Magnus told her.

Charlie nodded and walked away. Magnus returned to his call with his boyfriend.

"Hey Alec" Magnus started "Would you and your siblings like to join our campfire?"

"Campfire?" Alec asked

"It's a tradition" Magnus said "Max knows about it…so, would you like to join us?"

"I guess it would be alright" Alec said "What do we have to bring?"

"Clothes for the night, sleeping bags if you have any, pillows and blankets, and if any type of candies" Magnus listed off

"So…we're staying the night?" Alec asked

"Yeah…only if you can" Magnus said "The kids and I are not going to school tomorrow…but I know you have to…"

"Actually, we don't" Alec said "We were going to go house hunting, we can't stay in the small apartment forever…"

"So you can come?" Magnus asked

"I'll let everyone know" Alec said

"Great!" Magnus said with a grin "See you in a bit, then"
