Nick stares at his phone and then up at the window. He sends a text and then turns the key in the ignition and pulls away from the curb with one last look at the window.

Nick is struggling to surface, he hears the ringing that has awoken him and throws out a hand to pick up the receiver.

"Nick Fallin"

As he's speaking he's aware of Jenny moving beside him. He rest his other hand on her arm. She turns and watches the emotions that pass across Nick's face. He pulls back the covers and swings his legs around.

"What's wrong Nick?"

She hears panic in his voice as she hears him say:

"I'm on my way, Hold on Lulu, hold on."

Jenny is wide awake now and sitting up rubbing Nick's back.

"What's happened?"

Nick is scrambling for his clothes, panic hampering his movements.

"It's Lulu, she was crying, it was hard to make out what she was saying, but I think she said she's taken too many tablets."

Jenny jumps out of bed too and grabs her clothes.

"Is there anything I can do Nick? What about Anne?"

"I'll call my Dad and have him meet me at Lulu's house. Can you get her room ready for me? Clean sheets are in the hall closet.

"Of course. You just deal with what you need to deal with. Ring me when you can and if there's anything else I can do."

Nick gives her a long kiss and whispers in her ear as he pulls away:

"Thank you."

Even though there's not much traffic around every light seems to go against him. After his third stop he thumps the steering wheel in frustration. He's called his Dad and he is meeting him there. Thoughts of what if race around Nick's mind. What if he hadn't left. He knew she was feeling vulnerable but he left her alone.

Nick drops his keys as her fumbles for the one to Lulu's house. He finally gets the key in the lock and pushes open the door calling Lulu's name. There's no answer. He runs through the bottom half of the house but doesn't find anything. He then strides up the stairs towards Lulu's bedroom. He's still calling her name but trying not to wake Anne as well. He doesn't like the silence, it presses down on him and makes him feel he's moving in slow motion even though his heart rate tells him otherwise. He opens the door and the room is empty. He sees Lulu's phone on the far side of the bed. As he gets nearer to the bed he can see Lulu on the floor. He's swiftly beside her, saying her name bu He feels for a pulse and finds one. He's not an expert but it seems weak.

"Lulu open your eyes."

Her eyes flutter for a moment and then are still, Nick takes out his phone and dials 911.

Burton arrives just as Nick hangs up the phone. Nick feels relief as seeing his face.

"Dad, stay here with Lulu while I get some things together for Anne and then can you take her to my place. A girl called Jenny is there, she will let you in and she will have Anne's cot ready. Are you all right to stay with her until I get back."

"Of course Son, whatever you need. What happened here?"

"I don't know. I saw Lulu earlier and she was pretty upset but I never imagined she would do something like this. Ambulance is on it's way."

Nick leaves and goes into Anne's room. He finds a bag at the bottom of the closet and throws some clothes and diapers inside. He puts the bag on his shoulder and gently picks Anne up out of the bed. She stirs.

"Shhh. Go back to sleep. It's Daddy, Grandpa is going to take you to my place and stay with you."

She opens her eyes as he's speaking but closes them again.

When he's back in Lulu's room he fishes his car keys out of his pocket and throws them to Burton.

"You need to get the car seat out of my car. How's Lulu?"

They hear the sirens approaching and Anne wakes up. Nick and Burton go down the stairs to greet the paramedics and Nick directs them to Lulu's bedroom. He then follows his Dad who is putting the car seat in his car. Nick gives Anne a kiss who's looking bewildered.

"Here's Grandpa, he's going to take you to my house, okay."

Anne is silent as he passes her to Burton and Nick watches while Burton fastens her into the car seat and then waves as they drive away. He runs back into the house, in the bedroom the paramedics have Lulu on a gurney and are ready to take her to the ambulance. Nick gets in with her and holds her hand as the doors close. The siren whirl as the ambulance makes a dash for the hospital. Nick can tell the paramedics are getting more concerned as the journey continues. He moves Nick away and works on her constantly for the rest of the journey. When it comes to a stop there is a team of doctors waiting when the doors open. Lulu's whisked away. Nick tries to follow but a kind hand stops him and leads him to the waiting room saying that someone will be out as soon as possible to let him know how she is.

"I have to make a phone call and check on my daughter."

"That's okay it will be a while."

Nick steps outside not wanting to disturb the other people waiting. Jenny picks up on the first ring.

"Hi."

"Hi, how is she?"

"We've just arrived at the hospital and they are working on her. She has been unconscious most of the time. The paramedics were very concerned about her. My dad should be there soon with Anne..."

"He's settling her in her cot. She woke up so I think he's reading her a story to get her back to sleep. How are you doing?"

"I fine."

"Would you like me to come and wait with you."

Nick realises how much he would like that.

"Yes that would be nice."
