Jaune felt helpless in this situation. Ruby was too emotionally unstable to fight and Jaune didn't know if he could fight the giant spike ball alone. All Jaune could do was sit there and try and comfort Ruby the best way he knew how.
"Ruby"
"What?"
"I'm sorry about your mom but right now we have to deal with that thing. It'll eventually figure out how to get in here."
Ruby wiped away the tears and stood up.
"You're right. What do you say we teach this spike ball a lesson?"
"What have you got in mind?"
…
Jaune did not like this plan. His part of the plan was to stand in the rain and be used as bait while Ruby waited safely in the trees. Jaune could feel his knees quiver and shake; the only sound to that could be heard was the rumbling in the distance. Jaune knew it was the creature and it was getting closer. The only other noise was the chattering of Jaune's teeth. He was sure he was going to catch a cold after this.
The rumbling had intensified and was not too far from Jaune's location. Then the rumbling subsided and everything was quiet. Jaune breathed a sigh of relief but his silent celebration was cut short by the loud sound of trees being broke in half as the creature broke through them. The spike ball was now at least double Jaune's height and was moving at an alarming rate towards Jaune. Jaune took off sprinting in the direction they had planned. The creature was almost nipping at his heels. Despite the vast amount of trees that it had to break to even get through the forest. Jaune could feel the thing slowly but surely catching up. The only thing that gave him a sign of relief was the occasional rose petal that appeared out of nowhere. It was Ruby's sign of encouragement as she kept up with the two.
Jaune could see his destination up ahead. The cave that they were previously in, Jaune ran up to the mouth of the cave but stopped just before he would've entered it. The spikey creature would've steamrolled him if not for Ruby pushing him out of the way. The creature couldn't stop in time and got itself lodged into the mouth of the cave. It was stuck now and that's exactly what Ruby had planned on.
It was now time for Jaune's other part of the plan. He pulled out his shield and fired up his aura. He charged the creature, using every ounce of aura he had to speed up his assault. He slammed into the creature with such force and speed that it was forced through the cave and lodged even further back. This also destroyed the roof of the cave and caused it to collapse, trapping the creature inside.
Jaune stood at the entrance of the now collapsed cave and made sure that the creature was unable to get out. There were some shifts in the rocks that finally ceased after a couple minutes. It was finally defeated.
There was a bright flash and they were back at the ruins.
They had not been back two seconds before they were kicked into the next portal. Jaune didn't even see who did it.
…
"Sorry Jaune, things are a bit…hectic at the moment" Silver whispered. There were now two figures that appeared before the three of them, one in a white cape, and one in white robes. Both were wearing hoods that covered their faces.
…
On the bright side they were both fully conscious when they crossed through the portal this time. The down side was that they were both high up in the air and descending rapidly on what looked like an active warzone of grimm and humans. Jaune looked over towards Ruby who looked just as befuddled as he was. Ruby fired a couple of rounds from crescent rose and used the recoil to maneuver through the air. She got closer to him and shouted something.
"Use your landing stradegy!" She shouted
"But I don't have one!" He shouted. Jaune could tell that Ruby couldn't hear him over the wind by the thumbs up she gave him.
'I wonder if my aura will protect me' he thought. 'Well death by splatter can't hurt that bad…can it?'
Jaune flared up his aura and braced for impact. His impact with the ground created a huge crater. His body locked up and wouldn't move. Other than that he felt fine. His body eventually unlocked and he was able to look up and see Ruby descend upon the army of grimm.
She was a blur of slicing and gunshots as she tore the grimm apart. Jaune was finally able to fully move freely again and he headed over in the direction where Ruby was. Along the way he almost had his head chopped off by one of the humans.
"Hey what was that for? I'm a human too!" Jaune exclaimed
"Exactly!" shouted the soldier.
Upon further observations he noticed that the soldier was a faunus. Faunus violence against humans was nothing new to Jaune but this was taking it a little too far. The faunus tried actually tried to kill him! The faunus charged at him again but was taken out by a larger soldier.
"What are you doing just standing there? Pull out your sword and fight or die by the hands of faunus!"
Jaune couldn't help but examine this new warrior that stood before him. He had blonde hair and blue eyes, much like Jaune. He held a long sword that emanated light. He held a kite shield that blazed bright yellow that could make a person go blind if they stared long enough. He wore white knight armor, except for the helmet, and on the middle of the chest plate was the Arc family symbol. Jaune was so dumbfounded that he almost got cut in two by an Ursa. The large Ursa was beheaded by the large knight.
"Why haven't you drawn your sword yet? Do you want to die?"
Jaune was brought out of his daze and scrambled to bring out his sword and shield. He engaged in the fight and started taking out beowolves as best he could. Whenever a faunus came along he tried to block and dodge instead of actually fighting the faunus. It didn't feel right to him to fight another person, even if the other person was trying to kill him.
Whenever he could, he tried to take another look at the large knight that saved him. Each time he did he could match the resemblance to his great-great-grandfather.
'This could only mean one thing if he's alive' thought Jaune.'It sent us back in time…back to the War.'
…
Blake was waiting outside the ruins. She had agreed to come with Yang purely to keep her out of trouble. She was also curious about Jaune's training; she had taken an interest in the boy recently, although she would never admit it. That whole plan was thrown out the window the moment Yang barged into the ruins. After Yang and Jaune had fallen into the pool of water the entrance to the temple vanished and there was no other way in. All Blake could do was sit, wait, and watch.
…
"Jiji are you ready?!" Silver shouted as he fired off more rounds at the two white hooded figures.
"Not yet, but I'm close" Jiji shouted back.
"We can't keep this up forever!" Shouted Yang who was also firing rounds at the two figures, every round that was fired was deflected by the white robed figure's hand. The two figures were slowly taking ground and heading toward the portal where Ruby and Jaune currently are. Silver glanced back at Jiji and cursed to himself.
…
Jaune was making his way through the battlefield and heading towards Ruby's location, though he had to thank his great-great-grandfather, Jeanne, for most of his progress. He could see why Jeanne was revered as a hero; he was unstoppable on the battlefield.
They eventually reached Ruby's position and were greeted with a pile of grimm corpses and a frustrated Ruby who was being ganged up on by a bunch of faunus soldiers.
"Stop it already! We're on the same side!" Ruby shouted
"Ruby over here!" Jaune shouted to her. Ruby used her semblance to weave through the group of faunus. She moved with such agility and grace that the only thing the faunus saw were a bunch of rose petals where a little girl had been standing. Ruby regrouped with Jaune and now they were facing the group of faunus who had begun to recover from their confusion. They all turned to face the group of three. They were outnumbered 3 to 1. Jaune looked over at Jeanne but was surprised to find that Jeanne had already charged at the group of faunus.
The first faunus only had a dagger and was surprised at Jeanne's speed. He tried to stab Jeanne but wasn't quick enough and got run through with Jeanne's blade. A second faunus tried to stab him with a spear but Jeanne blocked it with his shield. His shield flashed a blinding light, that caught the faunus off guard. Jeanne grabbed the spear and yanked it out his hands. He turned the spear around and impaled the faunus. He raised the now impaled faunus into the air on the spear head and swung it around into three faunus that were charging him. He pulled his sword out of the first faunus' body and charged the three disoriented soldiers. They were all lined up perfectly and Jeanne impaled all three of them with one stab of his blade. He pulled his blade out of the now dead faunus and blocked two arrows that were aimed at his head. Two archers were firing arrows with dust crystals attached to the shaft. One of the archers brought out an arrow with an orange dust crystal. Jaune had been doing his research and knew that it was explosion dust.
"Watch out that arrow's going to explode!" Jaune shouted. Jeanne either didn't hear him or didn't care, because he charged forward regardless. The arrow was fired and made contact with Jeanne's shield. Just as Jaune predicted, there was an explosion but that barely slowed Jeanne down as he charged through the smoke and flames. Both archers were surprised at the continuation of Jeanne's life and tried to retreat. They weren't fast enough and both of them were cut down in one swing of Jeanne's blade. Only two faunus were left. Both were huge and carried weapons that demonstrated their strength. One carried a mace and the other an axe. The faunus with the axe charged Jeanne first, he lifted his axe and brought it down with enough force to imbed it into the earth. Luckily Jeanne had already rolled out of the way. Jeanne wasted no time and cut off the arm of the axe wielding faunus. The faunus cried out in pain but his cries were cut short as Jeanne shoved his blade into the throat of the faunus. Jeanne picked up the axe from the dead faunus and charged the mace wielder. Jeanne stopped before he would've been in range of the mace wielding faunus and instead threw the axe. The axe stuck into the faunus' chest and he fell over with a large thud.
Jaune was left speechless.
"You…you just…you just mu-"
"Murdered nine faunus" Ruby finished. She held the same look he had. Jaune didn't know what to feel, he was both amazed and disgusted at Jeanne's assault. Jaune noticed that there was still one faunus left. He was younger than the rest and Jaune noticed he was only carrying a dagger.
"You…you killed my brother…YOU SON OF A BITCH!" He shouted and charged Jeanne. Jeanne raised his blade and was about to strike down the faunus. Jaune could already see what was going to happen and he wasn't going to allow it.
"STOP" he yelled and got in between Jeanne and the faunus. Jeanne stopped but the faunus had no intention of stopping. Jaune would've been stabbed had it not been for Jeanne who pushed him out of the way and shield bashed the faunus kid. He was out like a light after that. Jaune took a closer look at the now unconscious faunus kid and noted that he looked even younger than Ruby.
"What the hell was that?!" Jaune shouted
"What do you mean?"
"You were about to kill a kid!"
"This is war! He charged at me with a dagger! I don't know where you're from but you need to learn that this is how war works. It's either kill or be killed."
Their conversation was cut short by a rugged looking man with a scar running down his right eye.
"General, the faunus are retreating and the grimm are dwindling in numbers. What's our next course of action?"
"Finish off the remaining grimm and find a suitable location to setup camp. We have some…matters to attend to" Jeanne looked at Jaune and Ruby as he said the last part of that sentence.
Camp had been set up in nearby woods. Jaune and Ruby had been arrested and thrown into a cell along with the faunus boy from earlier. Ruby was tempted to fight back when they tried to take crescent rose from her but Jaune promised her it was only for a little while.
They were now sitting in a cell, tired and hungry. They had decided to come up with a cover story so that when the time came for them to be questioned they wouldn't be totally unprepared.
It had been an hour before someone came to get them. They were both escorted to a large tent which held Jeanne and a couple other older men all looking at a map that contained there battle plans and strategies. Upon their arrival, Jeanne took the map and put it away, and dismissed the other men.
"So…who are you exactly?"
Jaune was the first to respond and he tried to act as casual as possible.
"My name is John Smith and-"
"Cut the shit. I already know you're lying. If you don't wanna tell me who you really are that's fine…I didn't really care anyways. What I really wanna know is why you had my sword." Jeanne brought out Crocea Mors and laid it on the table. Jaune looked at his belt and noticed that Jeanne held an exact copy of Crocea Mors.
"Hehehe…Well you see…it's a long story"
"Then you better start talking"
"Alright but you aren't going to believe me"
Sorry for the late update. Did not mean for it to take that long, I had some unexpected family issues to attend.
