Chapter 26 - Wait for the Explosion

Wait for the explosion
Only to anticipate
Running in slow motion
I can never get away
Sweet paralysation
No one here to keep me safe
Hyperventilation
I'm about to go insane
Wake me up and keep me conscious

- Concious (Broods)

Davina had thought this through.

As soon as she told them all her plan, things went straight into motion. Klaus had been the one to launch everything into action, running around and making plans for their attack, but it wasn't just for him. They all had reasons to take on the witches.

Despite that, she knew that Kol was reluctant. He didn't want her leaping into danger when he'd only just come back to life, but Davina felt that if they didn't act now, maybe they wouldn't ever get a chance.

She hadn't told Kol about the schemes running through her mind until she knew she had a proper plan that she could propose. Since the first attempt at completing the harvest, Davina had been using her power to inform Marcel of any threats against them. They had been using it to keep the witches of the French quarter in check, but as long as the harvest remained incomplete, she would never gain any peace. She couldn't even leave the city because she was still bound to the spell even if it hadn't been fully carried out. By that point, Davina wanted nothing more than to leave, or at the very least to have freedom. However, she felt in debt to Marcel for obvious reasons. But if they were to destroy any threat of the French Quarter Coven and leave them so scattered that there was no one to even come after them any more, Marcel wouldn't be threatened in his rule and she could have her life.

The easiest way to do that wouldn't be to pick them off one by one - though she had no doubt that Kol would take to the task if she presented the option - but to simply give them what they want. The one thing that would gather them all together would be the promise of the completed harvest ritual. If they had her in their grasps, all it would take was a barrier spell on the cemetery to stop any vampire from entering and they would be free to kill her and gain the power that the ancestors promised them.

But, if the vampire were in the cemetery before the barrier spell was cast, then they would be able to remain inside during the ritual. Kol, Marcel, Elijah and Klaus could eradicate all of their enemies in one moment. Then Marcel wouldn't need her to hold the city any longer, and she would be free and the whole world would be at her feet.

Running this all through her mind, Davina took a deep breath to keep herself calm.

They were doing this tonight.

It was so simple, so easy, but there was a lump in her throat as stated at the door of the compound. She would be leaving soon, ready to play her part of their charade.

"My brothers and Marcel are already there." Kol informed her, hanging up the phone from a call that had just rung through.

"Are you sure they're hidden well?" That was the most important thing. The witches has ways of detecting the intruders. It was the only part of the plan that she could see going wrong. She was surprised to see Kol grin in response.

"I told you about my secret playhouse, love. An old, empty tomb. The little bit of your blood that we gave to them is the key to unlocking it. However, once they're inside no one will be able to sense them there." Kol was obviously pleased that something from so long ago was able to aid him now. Or maybe he was just recalling found memories of his little hideaway. Apparently one that he'd shared with one of her ancestors, the thought of which made the young witch more than a little jealous.

"You'll have to show me this playhouse sometime Kol." Davina laughed, reminding herself to focus on his excitement of it, rather than some girl from a century ago.

"When your safe." Kol said, matter of factly, before his face dropped a little into something more serious.

He drew a little closer to her.

"Listen, Davina, are you sure you want to do this? Truly, I can kill the lot of them one by one. It might take a while but if it keeps you safe I don't mind putting in the effort." Ever since she told him her plan, he'd said this over and over again.

She gave him a little, wry smile. "This is the best way to make sure it's done. Then we'll all be free from this nightmare." That's what she kept telling herself anyway. She didn't want to let on to Kol that she was scared. She wanted to be strong for both of them, and truly, wasn't it now or never? Davina couldn't stand being a prisoner any longer.

The racing of her heart however, left Kol unconvinced.

"Davina..."

"It'll be okay." She whispered, taking a second to lean into his chest and breath him in. He rested his head on top of her hair and his hands curled around her. Her life have moved so far away from the direction she had envisioned when she was younger, but in that moment the only thing she felt was how lucky she was to be loved by Kol and Marcel. They were the ones that kept her sane amongst all the crazy, and she was going to do this for their sakes. The witches were too much of a threat to them too, and she couldn't give them any more opprutjnoties to hurt the ones she loved more than anything.

With that determination in her heart, she pulled away from Kol.

"I'll see you in the cemetery." She whispered and after giving him the quickest of kisses, she stepped out of the compound and into the midst of the French Quater. All she had to do now was wait for a witch in her coven to catch sight of her.

They waited.

Kol had joined his brothers and Marcel an hour ago, making his way to the cemetery in a blur of vampire speed once Davina had left. He wanted to stay close to her, so that he could protect her if things went wrong but he knew himself that the harvest could only be completely in this very spot, and no witch would dare take her life until they were there.

She was right to refuse him remaining close, even if he didn't like the idea. He had to make sure he was there for Davina in the most important part of the evening, and if a witch saw him close to her when she was out in the open, surely they would suspect it was a trap. He was a known enemy of the witches now.

However that still left them needing a way of knowing that everything had gone according to plan.

The only person remaining in the compound was the newly turned Sophie Deveraux. Kol had compelled her himself. The witches didn't know that she was a vampire yet, and she was still in the midst of their inner circle even if she wasn't an elder. Considering her niece Monique was one of the sacrificed girls, she would certainly be contacted if the harvest were about to take place.

He told her to sit by her phone until it rang, and as soon as she had confirmation that Davina was in the custody of the witches, she would call him as well.

When the witches were all gathered, they would begin their war.

"Really Kol, how long is it going to take your little witch to get herself captured?" Klaus complained loudly, fiddling with the many dusty trinkets that Kol had lined on shelves around them.

"Don't touch that!" He growled as Klaus' hands edged towards a small, yellow marble encased in a tiny wooden box.

"Precious is it?" Klaus couldn't help himself but flick open the box and run the marble through his fingers.

"Not particularly. But if you happen to drop it, Nik, you'll set the place on fire in a rather nasty exposion." Kol replied, recalling he'd been in a mood to burn things when he'd commissioned that particular piece of magic from Astrid and Mary-Alice almost a hundred years previously. "You might survive the fire but Marcel certainly wouldn't. And you would blow our cover to the witches because they sure as hell would notice if one of the tombs went up in flames."

"Don't worry, Kol. I have the reflexes of a Hybrid." Klaus chuckled, but put the marble back in its box and left it back in place. Kol continued to eye his brother wairily until he'd sat back down in the corner of the room next to Elijah, before his eyes dropped to his phone once again.

He had never felt this anxious. For the first time in his life, something was truly at stake to him, and it wasn't even his life. It was her's. He'd just come back from the grave and couldn't help but imagine what would happen if he lost her tonight. He wouldn't put it past God, if there was such a thing, to taunt him like that.

"We can do this." Marcel said suddenly. He'd been silent up until that point but he could sense Kol's anxiousness. "You need to stay focused, but with all of us, this is going to be a piece of cake."

It had to be. Kol couldn't stand the thought of what would happen if things went wrong. He wouldn't lose her. Not now that they were together again.

His phone beeped in his hand. He brought it to his ear with such speed that his hand was a blur, answering before the first ring had finished.

"Kol? It's Sophie. They've got Davina and they're bringing her to the cemetery now."

Kol hung up.

"It's time," he annouced.
