Chapter 26

Rosalie had been acting a little too good around the house since Edward left on his trip, and as much as I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt, the last time I had she went clubbing on Halloween and cut up her costume to get me fired.

Edward wouldn't be home until tomorrow night, so I only had to make it until then. Jasper, Alice, and I were baking when I realized it had been a while since Rosalie had come down. I called her to see what she was in the mood to eat for dinner, but she didn't answer so I went up to ask her.

What I saw when I walked into her room was the last thing that I had expected.

Rosalie was half naked with a kid who was obviously older than her feeling her up. I froze in shock for a half a second before I flipped on the overhead light and yelled at her. "What in the hell is going on in here?"

"Don't worry, sexy, you can join in." The little creep tried to sound smooth, but I was already crossing the room to throw his pants at him.

"You have until I count to ten to be dressed and on your way out of this house before-" My threat was cut off by the creeper's repeated okays, and he was soon walking past me and jogging down the stairs with his backpack and heading out the door without a look behind him towards Rosalie.

She was hot on my heels after putting her shirt back on, screaming about how I had ruined her life, and when I turned and saw Jasper and Alice watching us I lost it.

"Jasper, take Alice up in the elevator and watch some TV in your room until I come get you, okay?"

"Okay, Bella," Jasper said, leading Alice away from the fight that was about to erupt.

Once we were alone in this part of the house, I turned on her. "What were you thinking, Rosalie? You know how your dad feels about friends coming over, so you wait until he's away and sneak a boy that neither of us has met up into your room to fool around? What if it hadn't been me to walk into your room? What if Alice or Jasper had gone looking for you?"

"It's not a big deal, Bella. Royce and I were making out and now he'll probably never call me again. And you should talk about what my siblings could walk in on when you're screwing my dad," she fired back and I was stunned.

"What are you talking about?"

"Back before your friends got married, I caught you two down here doing the same thing Royce and I were. Does he pay you extra to fuck you or is it included in your salary?" she hissed the last comment and I lost any shred of control I had left.

"Get upstairs now, Rosalie, and don't come out of that room until you're told," I growled and she turned and ran back for the stairs.

I pulled out my phone and tried to call Edward, but it went straight to voicemail, so I left him a message begging him to call me as soon as possible before I called the only other person I could.

"Bella, how is your last evening alone with the kids?" Esme asked and I let out a harsh laugh.

"Esme, I can't even tell you how screwed up tonight has gotten. I know Carlisle is on call tonight, so would you be able to bring the girls over here and stay with the kids? I know it's a lot to ask, but Rosalie and I just had a blowout and I need to clear my head and try and get a hold of Edward."

"What happened?" Esme asked, concerned.

"She snuck a boy into her room, and they weren't reading scripture," I tried to joke, but it wasn't funny.

"Oh, goodness. I'll pack up Lottie and Tia and we'll be there as soon as we can. You keep trying to get Edward, and see if Angela and Ben can meet you somewhere to blow off some steam," Esme said and I agreed, saying a quick goodbye.

Edward still was not answering his phone, but Angela did, so I told her that I'd be there within ninety minutes.

Esme walked in thirty-five minutes later, Tia and Charlotte looking confused.

"Where are they?" Esme asked.

"Rosalie is in her room and Jasper's in his room with Alice. They haven't eaten so there are a few things you could heat up in the fridge-" I was going to continue, but Esme cut me off.

"I've got it under control, you just enjoy your evening," she told me and I gave her a hug.

I knew I should tell her, but I didn't want to do it without Edward here. But Rosalie would surely spill her guts and then I'd be screwed. "Can you guys go up to Jasper's room; I need to talk to your mom for a minute?"

"Sure, Bella," they said in unison and then ran up the stairs to the third floor.

"There's something else, isn't there?" Esme asked.

"Part of the reason that Rosalie hates me so much is because of something she saw a while back. I hate that things have worked out this way, but I think it's better that you hear it from me." I took a deep breath before I continued. "Edward's my boyfriend."

Shock spread across her face as she questioned me. "I'm sorry; the boyfriend that wouldn't meet any of your friends and kept you hidden is my brother-in-law?"

"Yes," I answered honestly.

"This whole time?" she asked.

I nodded. "It started over the summer and at first we weren't sure what it was, but as time went on we realized it was serious and we wanted to find a way to make it work. We didn't tell people at first because we were afraid of the backlash and we wanted to show that we were serious about it and that it wasn't something we had just jumped into."

"When were you planning on telling people?" Esme asked in a cool tone.

"Soon, Edward kept saying he wanted to tell Tanya face to face that we were dating and after he gave her that courtesy then we would tell you guys and the kids."

"I don't know what to say," she whispered. "It seems we have a lot to discuss when Edward gets home."

"Esme, I'm sor-" I tried to tell her again but she shook her head, so I just ran upstairs to get my purse and leather jacket so that I could make my getaway.

I got in the car and started it up, texting Angela to let her know that I was coming.

I'm coming over, the shit has hit the fan and I need to regroup.

A minute later Angela answered back. We'll be waiting for you. See you soon.

I called Edward a third time but it still went straight to voicemail so I left another message and texted him as well. I had no idea why he wouldn't be answering me, but it had me worried.

The drive wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been, but parking in Kew Gardens was miserable, so I finally found a spot five blocks away and bumped into Ben on the way in.

"Angela thought we might need some beer after she got your message," he explained the shopping bag he was carrying. "Now what happened?"

"I'll tell you both when we get upstairs, because I can't tell this story twice," I said as we got into the elevator.

A few minutes later Angela was letting me in and we went into the living room.

"Okay, now start from the beginning," Angela said as Ben handed out or first round of Coors Light.

"Rosalie was acting a little too polite the last few days, so I knew something was up, but when I went upstairs to ask her what she wanted for dinner she was half-naked in her room with some older kid."

"How much older?" Ben asked.

"Still in high school, but definitely not a sophomore. He had a varsity patch on his bag and the Regis High School emblem, so I'm guessing he's a senior from the looks of him. Anyway, I threw him out and told the other kids to go up into Jasper's room and she just started tearing into me about how I'd ruined her life. When I tried to talk to her she told me that she'd seen Edward and me together the night of your hag party. Then she asked if he paid me extra to fuck him or if it was included in my salary."

"Please tell me you hit that little bitch," Angela said, but I shook my head and took a swig of the beer.

"I wanted to, but I just sent her up to her room and then tried calling Edward. But his phone is off so I called Esme and had her bring the girls over to stay with Edward's kids until I get back," I explained to them before drinking down more of my beer.

"Did you tell Esme?" Ben asked. "Because you know that little fire starter will."

"I did, and she was so…I don't even know if I could call it mad. I've seen her yell and scream but she just went cold. I'm pretty sure that I'm now officially unemployed." Thinking about losing that side of Edward's family made me want to cry.

"You really think she would fire you for falling in love with Edward?" Angela asked.

"I hope not, but I always knew that it was a possibility."

We were silent for a while, just drinking and mulling over how things had turned out.

"Okay, enough of this sulking." Ben stood up and went to the entertainment center they had. "It's time for drunken Wii."

Laughing at his enthusiasm, we took the remotes from him and watched as he set up the Mario Party 9. From there we began to play, drinking as we lost various mini games and lost stars. After a few games I looked at my watch and realized it was ten o'clock.

"I better head out, don't want to get home too late," I said as I reached for my coat and purse.

"Are you sure you don't want to stay here tonight?" Angela asked.

"No, I should go home so that way when Edward calls me back I'll be home to start damage control in the morning. I'll text you once I'm home," I told them and zipped up against what was probably an even chillier evening.

"Okay, B, be safe," Ben said as he walked me to the door.

I took the elevator down and walked out of the circle drive, noticing some guys hanging out about a block and a half down towards the bus stop. Not wanting to deal with any bullshit, I walked around the school, knowing I would just have to double back to where I'd parked. I made it around the side of the school and turned onto the back side of the buildings. I pulled out my phone again as I got to the car to check it but there were no messages from him. I called him one more time and again got his voicemail.

"Edward, I'm on my way home from Ang and Ben's, but I really need you to call me as soon as you get this. I don't care what time -"

My sentence was cut off by my scream as a pair of hands grabbed me from behind. One snaked around my waist while the other covered my mouth. I thrashed against the body pressed against my back, losing my phone and hearing the crunch of what was likely the screen breaking as I was pulled further into the truck bay behind the school.

Tears started flowing as I realized that these might be my final minutes. I continued to fight until I lifted my head enough to loosen his grip on my mouth. I sank my teeth into the gloved hand that covered my face and heard the curse just before I was thrown to the ground hard, face first. I rolled to my left side as a few hard kicks to my stomach and head left me out of breath as I watched Edward's car speed off just before the darkness took me.
