Happy Birthday Too.

Chapter 26

Mo's labour part 2

"I'm telling you this because I love you! But why don't we forget about all this and Ina, your already emotional and you are in labour, you don't need to be worrying about this baby, we will sort this all out when we need to ok? I love you!" Mr T announced calmly as he looked into Mo's eyes.

"Ok, thank you D" Mo said, much calmer now than she was before.

"Now to take our minds off of things while we wait for the anaethestist to come! Why don't we have a look and see what we are going to dress our daughter in first!" Mr T said, hauling up the hold-all bag into the end of the bed and unzipping it, revealing a variety of Pink, Purple and flowery outfits...

...

"Does it really matter which outfit she wears to go home in? And why have you packed the whole of her wardrobe for?" Mo asked, as she pressed on her stomach as she began to feel more uncomfortable again.

"Of course it matters Mo, it'll be her first time out in the world and I want her to look even more beautiful, not that's she not going to be beautiful anyway, so I brought a variety of outfits" Mr T explained, holding up a couple of outfits and showing them to Mo.

"Well, I like that one, the flowery top, lemon cardigan and yellow leggings with the matching hat" Mo replied, now screwing up her face slightly

"I like that one too, and we could use the pink flowery blanket to cover her with because the weather is meant to be cold tomorrow" Mr T said, putting the chosen outfit on the chair beside the bed.

"Is that all sorted now because I'm sure the anaethetist won't want to hear us talkin about which outfit we are going to dress our daughter in" Mo scowled harshly without meaning to.

"Geez Jac and Jonny were right in saying you get cranky in labour, we are all sorted now babe no need to panic" Mr T replied, feeling a little bit hurt but trying not to take it to heart.

"I'm sorry, I'm just sick of this pain now and every little thing seems to be getting on my wick, I'm always like this when I'm ill or in pain, I really didn't mean it... Oh god here comes another one, where's Jean?" Mo appologised before taking in deep breaths as another contraction arrived.

"Don't worry about it sweetheart, I've heard much worse off of some of the expectant mothers that I've treated in the past, take Jac for example" Mr T said reassuring Mo that he hadn't taken her comment to heart.

"Well yeah, you have a point there, but seriously you didn't deserve me saying that to you, I'm sorry" Mo answered letting out a smile.

Moments later, Jean came walking through the door, accompanied by the anaethetist and the epidural kit.

"Hello dear, sorry we took a while, there was a baby that couldn't quite wait. But we are here now, This is Dr Walters he'll be administering the epidural for you today, any questions?" Jean said as she clambered through the room and introducing the couple to their anaethetist.

"Nah, non I just want to get this over and done with before I have another contraction please" Mo said swinging her legs around slowly so they were dangling over the side of the bed.

"Okie Dokie then, here lets lay this across your stomach and lean forward slightly for me. Dr Walters will just prepare the epidural now" Jean said, passing Mo a pillow and positioning it across her stomach before she took a look at the foetal heart monitor.

"Ok Ms Effanga, Are you ready?.. Let's begin, keep as still as possible for me please and let me know when you are having a contraction" Dr Walters said, as he began the process after Mo nodded in response. Mr T took hold of Mo's hands, allowing her to squeeze them when needed.

After what felt like an age whilst the epidural was being administered, it was all finally over much to Mo's relief.

"Let's lay you back down on the bed, the spinal will be kicking in pretty soon" Mr T said as he helped Mo reposition herself back on to the bed.

"Everything is now in place Ms Effanga, we will now have to closely monitor baby's heart rate and monitor your contractions and blood pressure, as you know the epidural will slow the labour down slightly now it's in place, however the fluid we are giving you through the drip will maintains good blood pressure. Do you have any questions?" Dr Walters said as he disposed of all the used equipment and his gloves safely before he went back to the bed.

"No that great thank you" Mo said, feeling a little more relaxed now that procedure was over.

Dr Walter then walked over to Jean, who was sorting out the canula in Mo's hand, connecting the fluid which will maintain Mo's blood pressure.

"Do 15 minute Obs on both Mum and baby to make sure nothing changes and page me when the epidural needs topping up. If you need anything else page me" Dr Walter whispered In her ear before leaving the room to fill out patients files.

"Ok Mo, the epidural will take around 10 minutes to to take effect, I'll be back soon to see how you are" Jean said finishing the canula before placing a loving hand on her shoulder before leaving.

Just as she got to the door, she bumped into Adele, who had managed to clean up their house before making her way to the hospital to see her sister.

"Hello, can I help you?" Jean asked, not sure on who she was and who she was here to see.

"Hey I'm Adele Effanga, Mo's sister. I've come to see her" Adele said as she stood there holding onto he two pink foil balloons printed with 'It's a girl' on.

"Ok dear, give me a second..." Jean said before popping her head around the corner.

"Mo your sister Adele is here, would you like me to send her in?" Jean added as she looked over to the couple.

"Yeah send her in thanks" Mo replied, before she looked back down to her phone, hoping for an update from Jac and Jonny.

Jean then returned her attention back to Adele who was having a good look around the corridor.

"You can go in my dear." Jean said before squeezing past Adele and Going off to see her other patients.

Adele then pushed the door open and walked in to find a worn out looking Mo and an equally tired looking Mr T sitting next to each other on the bed.

"Hey sis, Hey D, how's you both doing?" She said in her high pitched squeel as she made her way over to the bed.

"Hey Delly.." They both said in unison with a smile on their faces.

"... I'm tired and achy, however this epidural is beginning to take effect and its bliss" Mo answered pleased now that her pain was going.

"... I'm fine, better now Mo's not in any pain" Mr T said.

"Aww that's sweet, any news from Ja and Jonny?" Adele asked as she placed the balloons and stuff on the over bed table.

"No not yet, all we know is that they have the same midwife as us. Actually D text Jonny and ask how everything is going." Mo answered before ordering Mr T to text him.

"That's ironic ain't it, you both going. Into labour on the same day and then both having the same midwife. Bet she's got her hands full" Adele said letting out a loud sigh as she leant herself against the wall.

"We said the exact same thing when she told us..." Mo said before looking over to Mr T who was standing by the window as he messaged Jonny.

"... I think he's worrying about them aswell" Mo added whispering to Adele who moved closer to hear her.

"Why? Why would he worry about Jac and Jonny? He should be worrying about you Mo." Adele whispered back, raising her eyebrows in confusion.

"He is worried about me you fool, but he was saying not long before Jena came in that he was concerned about them, because he delivered Emma and she was really poorly because of he CDH and now Ivy has managed to get her arm lodged in the pelvis" Mo explained to a now shocked Adele.

"My god I never knew that Mo, that must have been well scary for all parties involved, especially with them all being friends and all" Adele replied sympathetically.

"Moments later, Mr T walked back over to the bed taking a quick instinctive look at the monitor before he looked at Mo and Adele.

"Looks like your having another contraction... Anyway I just said in the message, 'Hey Jonny, how's everything going on in there? How you both holding up? '" Mr at said.

"Oh really! My bumps gone hats but it has been for a while now. Ok let's hope he replies soon, I'm going out of my mind in here" Mo replied taking Mr T's hand and giving it a gently squeeze.

"Yeah me too! But as long as you are fine, I'll be fine to" Mr T said smiling.

"Oh Mo, Ma said good luck and she's on her way here, she's really excited to see her grand baby." Adele blurted out, shuddering with excitement.

Mo and Mr T looked at each other, with a worried expression on their faces as they learnt about her mother eminent arrival...
