5 months later: The Cabin:
Five months had passed, Alice was now ten months old and her parents were worrying about her first steps and word. Rosie would play games with her sister, trying to help her walk but Alice would always do the same thing. Smile then fall back on her butt.
Margaret smiled, "Allie! C'mon! Say Mama!"
Alice sat in her highchair, giggling and scooping up her oatmeal from her bowl by the handful. "Gah wah bah!"
"No, Mama. Mama. Ma. Ma" She sounded it out, but Alice was still not catching on, "Ma…Ma"
Rosie sounded it out, "Mama! I can say it!"
Mordecai chuckled, "You silly girl! We know you can say Mama" He ruffled up her hair making her smile. "Can you say Dada Allie? Da…Da?"
Alice opened her mouth making her meal fall out of her mouth and onto her tray, "Alice Marie Haddad-Quintel! You're such a messy girl!" Margaret tickled her daughter's chin.
Mordecai ran his fingers through his daughter's spikes, "It runs in the family. My brothers are messy eaters"
The cardinal looked over to see Alice had oatmeal on his chin, cheeks and forehead, "I wonder how she gets any food in her mouth"
"I wonder if it goes to a different dimension" The blue jay looked at his daughter's messy face.
Rosie giggled then heard the doorbell rang, "I'll get it!" She climbed out of her chair making Mordecai pull her back by the hem of her pants, "Oh no you don't Feisty Pants, you need to finish breakfast"
"Oh man!" Rosie pouted. He lifted her up and sat her back in her chair, "Don't you oh man me" He walked to the door and opened it to gasp, "RIGBY!"
The raccoon smiled at him, the year apart had changed him, he was clean, his hair was combed, "Hey Bro!"
"Hey Dude! How are you!?" Mordecai hugged him, he missed his best friend so much.
Rigby shrugged, "I'm good. Eileen and I are getting hitched and I wanted to invite you down there"
Mordecai waved his hand, "Dude, come in. I missed you so much"
Rosie hopped out of her chair, "Daddy?"
Rigby emerged making Rosie's memory start, "Rigby! Beatles! Rigby!" She jumped up and down excitedly.
"Holy crap, she grew. She's almost taller than me!"
Mordecai snickered, "Dude. Alice is taller than you" He lifted up his messy baby girl and showed her to Rigby.
"Finally I get to meet her in person! Hi there little Alice" He took her into his arms, "She's so big. She looks just like you Bro" He tickled her chin.
Margaret smiled, "She seems to like you"
"Hi Margaret, you've got a beautiful set of girls here" Rigby smiled.
The cardinal smiled, Rigby wasn't this nice when they first met, "So what brings you here?"
"He's getting married" Mordecai smiled, as he lifted Rosie onto his hip. "Explains his niceness"
Margaret smiled, "Oh congratulations! Is it that mole girl?"
"Yea Eileen" He grinned, "Anyway she said that she wanted my best man to be my best friend not this stuck up guy that Eileen knew so wanna come to my wedding?"
"Of course Dude! I thought hell would freeze over before you got hitched!" Mordecai laughed.
"What's hell?" Rosie looked at her dad making him gulp.
The blue jay looked to see Margaret giving him a look, "Well…hell is a place where dead people go but in a religious way" He gave Margaret a cheesy smile.
Rosie stared at him, "Ohh…ok"
Rigby smiled, "So I'm getting married on Saturday and I'm driving my family in and I just wanted to invite you guys to stay at my apartment because I already told my family they can sleep in a hotel"
"Sure, we'll be down there on Friday" Margaret smiled, making Mordecai smile even bigger.
Friday:
Margaret packed for the girls while Mordecai got everything in the car, Rosie held onto Katie Mordy while her dad called her trauma center and told them she'd miss a few days.
"Yes. I know healing is important but Rosie's night terrors have stopped but she still shows signs" Mordecai nodded, "We have to go out of town, she'll be there on Monday. I promise"
Rosie stuck her thumb into her mouth, "Daddy?"
He hung up the phone angrily, "Yes?"
"Dr. Cress says your anger can only make you feel more pain" Rosie chimed.
The blue jay smiled, "Dr. Cress is just a therapy doctor. Not a health doctor" He lifted her up and carried her into the car.
Margaret buckled Alice in and smiled, "We need that first word Cutie Pie" Alice cooed and shook her fist making her smile, "You're too cute"
The car drive there was long and painful with Rosie playing pretend games with her parents, "Daddy! There's a spider back here!"
Mordecai quickly parked the car on the side of the road, since Rosie was terrified of spiders. He ran to the backseat of the car only to see Rosie looking up at him, "Where is it?"
Margaret opened Alice's door to make sure the spider wasn't on the baby, "Not over here!"
"What did it look like Rosie?" Mordecai asked, with a shoe in hand.
"It was pink with purple dots on it, it had pretty green eyes with fuzzy hair" Rosie chimed then pointed at the floor, "I think it drove away"
Mordecai face-palmed, "It was a pretend spider…"
"Yes Daddy, why"? Rosie looked at her mom then her dad.
The blue jay took a deep breath then closed the door, "Good lord Rosie"
Margaret got in the car, smiling at him, then suddenly laughing, "Oh my god! She made you pull the car over for an imaginary spider" She laughed harder.
The blue jay rolled his eyes, "Yea yea"
Margaret continued to laugh as they drove, "It's not that funny" He rolled his eyes.
Rosie giggled as she pointed at her shoes, "Daddy, the spider came back!"
The cardinal giggled, as she jokingly looked back, "Oh my gosh! You're right Rosie"
Rosie busted into a fit of giggles making Mordecai chuckle.
The next day:
Margaret awoke to see Mordecai sleeping next to her, they arrived late last night and Rigby showed them the way to the guest room. Rosie slept on the couch with Katie Mordy while Alice slept in between the two parents.
"Mm, good morning" Margaret smiled, lifting Alice up.
"Good morning" Mordecai groaned as he rubbed his eyes, he was really sleepy.
Margaret got up, "Did Alice kick you all night too?" She patted the sleeping baby's back.
The blue jay nodded, "Damn she's got a leg. She kept kicking me and I moved her leg and got kicked in the shoulder"
Rosie was awake bright and early, watching cartoons, "Hehe! Sponge Bob funny!"
"Yes he is now where's Uncle Rigby?" Margaret asked, yawning.
Rigby opened his bedroom door, "Hey guys, the wedding is in six hours so let's get a move on"
"Where's Rigby? Have you seen him?" Mordecai smirked as he poured himself some cereal.
Rigby chuckled, "Oh yea. Sorry. Eileen's behavior's been rubbing off on me"
Margaret smiled, "I'll get the girls fed and dressed"
The raccoon smiled, "Ok well Eileen will be at the church with her gal pals at two so maybe you can join them" He smiled then went to get some cereal.
Mordecai and Margaret fed their girls and got them dressed then Margaret was gone with the girls.
The blue jay got on his tux while Rigby got on his. The two exchanged in deep banter about each other's lives. Mordecai explained that Jack had been trying to kill his family and Henry was killed. Rigby told him that Jack's gang had this town but then relocated.
The Wedding:
Margaret felt a little out of place, Eileen's friends were all cracking insides jokes while Margaret would just sit there and listen, luckily the girls would help Margaret out with the jokes making her smile and laugh.
Eileen's blonde friend Audrey smiled at Alice, "Oh she's so cute. How old is she?"
"She's a baby" Rosie chirped.
The girls giggled making Margaret smile, "She's ten months old. She's trying to walk but she just can't yet"
Rosie turned to her mom, "I can help her walk" Rosie lifted Alice off on her feet.
"Rosie! No. Sweetie, not now!"
The little red bird smiled, "But Mama! Look!" She moved her hands only to reveal Alice was standing on her own two feet.
The girls gasped looking at the baby girl, she looked so excited, everyone was looking at her, "Ahh!" She waved her hands up and down, Margaret stood up and snapped a picture while trying to make sure her daughter didn't go anywhere.
"Allie. C'mon walk to Mama!" Margaret encouraged.
Alice took a big step making her legs wobble, the girls cheered her on:
"Go Baby!"
"Go Allie!"
"Just a few more steps!"
Alice let out a squeal as she collapsed in her mother's wing making her mom smile, "That's my girl!"
Eileen smiled, "Oh she's so cute! She took her first steps!"
Margaret smiled, "Yes! Oh my gosh! She couldn't wait for her Daddy" She kissed Alice's head.
Another girl smiled, "I can't wait until I have a baby girl!" She patted her son's head, her son had quietly been staring at Rosie all this time.
Soon enough the wedding started, since Margaret wasn't a bridesmaid, she and the girls took their seats in the first row pew. Rosie smiled up at her dad, "Hi Daddy!"
Margaret paced a finger to her beak, "Rosaline, shh…"
Rosie giggled, covering her mouth. She looked at Eileen and whispered, "Mama, she looks like a princess"
"She does but shh.." Margaret giggled, Rosie always had to compare girls to princesses.
Eileen made it to the end of the aisle by her father, Greg. A brown furred mole who was a single father, he kissed her forehead and smiled, "Your mom is proud"
Eileen scowled, after all these years, her father was still in love with her cheating mother, "Yes. I know" She smiled then headed up to Rigby, holding his hands.
During the vows, Alice began to get anxious to walk again but she was stuck in her mother's wings. She squirmed while her mom was focused on the wedding and ended up on the floor.
"Do you Eileen Lewis, take Rigby to be your lawfully wedded husband? To have and to hold for as long as you both shall live?" The minister asked.
Eileen nodded, "Yes I do" Tears cascaded down her cheek.
Mordecai looked over to see Alice was on the floor, he stared, he wanted to leave and pick her up or tell Margaret, but he didn't want to make a scene. He stared at Alice until something amazing happened.
Alice stood up on her own and took a few steps towards her father.
"And do you Rigby Salyers, take Eileen as your lawfully wedded wife? To have and to hold for as long as you both shall live?"
"COOKIE"! Alice blurted out, walking up the steep stairs. The crowd laughed in response.
Margaret gasped, "Oh my" She lifted up Alice and blushed, "Sorry"
Rigby smirked, "The kid wants to eat already"
Rosie giggled, "Allie's funny Mama!"
The minister continued, "Then I now pronounce you husband and wife, you may kiss the bride"
Rigby and Eileen kissed making the crowd jump up and cheer. Margaret smiled at the happy couple running down the aisle, she thought about marrying Mordecai. Mordecai always talked about their "soon-to-be" wedding, how they would celebrate it on a beach, have Rosie and Alice be the flower girls, Daphne would be the maid of honor, Rigby would be the best man, TJ, under Rosie's demands, would be the ring bearer.
They made their way to the reception, Eileen and Rigby were dancing to Lana Del Ray's Young and Beautiful when Mordecai sat next to her.
"Ya know. We could get married" He smiled at her while Rosie and Alice were jumping on the dance floor, not getting the hint that the dance floor was currently for slow dancing.
"Well we could but…we can't" Margaret sighed, not meeting his eyes, "I really do but we can't"
"Margaret, you can just mail divorce papers to him and if he doesn't sign them then we'll just elope" The blue jay smiled.
The cardinal sighed, "I wanna marry you" She pulled him to the dance floor.
"You do! Then let's get married" Mordecai twirled her around, feeling his heart beat faster.
Margaret smiled, "Well you didn't exactly propose"
"Umm" Mordecai smiled bigger, he twirled her around then spoke, "I'm gonna wait a minute"
Margaret danced with him while her heart began to beat faster, why was he waiting? Why was he stalling on this? Then suddenly through the speakers came the song Never Say Goodbye by Bon Jovi. He smiled at her then spoke, "Margaret Tompkins, will you marry me?"
Margaret gasped, "Oh my god…" She bowed her head then smiled, "Yes…I'll marry you" They shared a passionate kiss then danced the night away.
Ok…that didn't end as bad as I thought it would. I'm so sorry for the delay! So Rigby finally got to see his best friend, Alice talked and walked while Margaret and Mordecai got engaged. Awwww! Sounds like a good ending.
