25.
"We're not. We've never been," I answered, looking straight into his eyes and willing him to see I was being honest.
Jasper regarded me for a minute and then let out a long sigh. He looked out the window, his expression dark. "My sister—"
"What she thinks she knows, it's not what's really going on."
I wasn't angry. Birdy was very close to Jasper, and she had told me she'd confided in him before that night she took care of me. I hadn't been able to talk about you to anyone, and it seemed Birdy had drawn her own conclusions.
I needed to fix that.
I couldn't have her thinking that something that wasn't real was going on between you and me.
He turned back to me. "Then what is it? What's going on?"
I sat back and pinched the bridge of my nose, thinking on how to explain this fucked up situation to hm. This fixation with you had brought more problems that I thought. I didn't see it as anything else. It couldn't be. I didn't really know you, and there was no way I could feel something more than just this… curiosity I had.
One couldn't love someone they didn't know, right?
I opened my eyes, and I knew that all I could do was tell Jasper the truth and hope he would believe it.
So, I did. I told him everything; from the first time I saw you to the covert touches under the table and finally about the night I kicked you out of my room.
"You are saying she was accosting you?"
I shook my head. "I'm not sure… Maybe she just wanted to talk, but since I'd been ignoring her—"
"Don't fool yourself, Edward," he interrupted, standing up and making his way towards the door. "Keep your eyes open. Women like her always have something up their sleeves."
I frowned. "Women like her? What's that supposed to mean?"
He opened the door and with his back to me, he said, "Women capable of standing up to my father."
I stood up. "Did something happen, Jasper? What aren't you telling me?"
He sighed and turned around. "Just that you should keep your eyes open. Things aren't always as they seem."
And with that, he left, closing my door with a soft click and leaving me with a million questions yet to be answered.
Keep your eyes open…
I should've followed his advice, but like the fool I was, I thought I had them wide open and didn't see who the real enemy was until it was too late.

Sorry for disapearing, but life happens and I had to roll with it. I just wanted to let everyone reading know that I haven't abandoned this story, in fact, I have been writing it non-stop. I just want to finish it before I post again, this way I'll be able to post two chapters every day until I'm done. Just be patient with me. Thank you for understanding and for reading.
