Snippet 8: Planning. (Six months)
Kakashi looked uncertainly as he watched Iruka and Sophie glare at the back of the twins- Hyuuga counterparts to be precise- who were just a few feet away from them . He was surprised to see the two since they wouldn't meet until their P.E. Class- which is the class after his Art subject.
He admits that the... friendship he had with Iruka and Sophie were being solidified day by day. In these past months Kakashi had been dragged with their escapades for chaos, sneaking into the kitchen, pulling pranks on their classmates and sometimes teachers, heck even Itachi was dragged on some of their plans. They had hanged out in the treeless park or the sweet shop after Sophie's persistence to follow their deal, they even got a chance to hang out with one another's house- usually for homework or group projects.
Kakashi did hanged out...well most of the bunshins he left with them- but that's beside the point, he still got the memories, so that counts for something right?
Other than those, another remarkable progress that Kakashi noted was the growing friendship/rivalry Iruka that has with Naruto. The two had been vying attention from him, it irked him however when he heard of the little bet going on between them, that whoever of the two got to be called 'brother' or 'Nii-chan' by him will become his 'official' brother in school.
Kakashi always kept that warning at the front of his mind. It was more than enough that he was being...babied by his parents and some of his classmates, as much as he like the little treats he got from the two, the attention overwhelmed him from time to time.
"Maa, Iruka." Kakashi called out snapping the two out of their stink eye staring. "What are you doing here?"
"Oh, Ms. Reyn would like for you to attend the training this afternoon." Iruka answered.
Kakashi hummed and tilted his head. "I'll ask Sir Tobias this lunch...so that's it? you could have message me for this."
"We wanted to see what middle school looks like." Sophie chirped. "Since we only went in their gyms."
"Maa, the rooms are much larger." Kakashi started. "And the students are nice here, that's just about it."
"Nice?" Iruka scoffed. "What about those two?" he asked heatedly as he pointed at the Hyuuga pair. "I saw them sneering at you."
Kakashi blinked. The action didn't escape the eyes of the pair.
"You didn't notice?" Sophie asked raising a brow.
"Nope." Kakashi replied with a shrug.
"Are you serious?" Iruka asked incredulously.
"Should I be?" he asked raising his own brow. Honestly, he knew that the Hennison twins had placed him on their bad book after his little speech months ago. The pro-advancers were pretty much against his bringing of books, they even went to the teacher to complain.
Fortunately Mrs. Flore was ecstatic to see the ancient texts that- while she didn't gave any outward reaction, had secretly asked him to borrow Sherlock. That, was after she calmly intoned the twins that there is nothing wrong for being 'initiative'.
After that failed attempt, the twins resorted to glaring and opposing him in verbal ways, luckily reading was more of... well- reading rather than speaking.
Though, the surprising tidbit of information he got in the school rumor mill was that the twins had been frequently chosen for their academic prowess. The hubris they got might be warranted. But it wouldn't hurt for them to be humble.
Kakashi glanced at the superior looks the twins got.
Maybe not.
"Kakashi." Iruka snapped. "You were listening right?"
Ah, he might have tune them out in his musings.
"Yep." he eye-smiled.
"He wasn't." Sophie deadpanned as she crossed her arm.
"I was." Kakashi retorted.
"Then what are we talking about?" the brunet challenged.
"Something about pranking the twins for being mean to me, because you're getting overprotective for such a little thing." he quipped and manage to make Iruka's brow twitch while Sophie laughed.
"That's- That's far from it!" Iruka defended, a blush peppered his cheeks at his reply.
"Midget, here summed it up." Sophie giggled and patted the taller boy on the shoulder.
"I- well, what do you think?" Iruka asked.
"Too troublesome." he replied as he leaned on the wall.
"Come on, Kashi." Sophie retorted. "How long have they been doing that- wait, they're the one who started it right?"
"Maa, no one started anything, really." he drawled. "I just brought my books."
"So why- oh." Iruka blinked when something dawned on him. "Pro-advancers?"
"Oh." Sophie voiced out.
"Aa." Kakashi nodded and saw Iruka shifted into his thinking pose.
The two already knew of his little habits for reading the First Gen. Creations. Iruka and Sophie didn't mind since one of their parents were traditionalists- their mothers to be specific- Tamashi quickly 'clicked' with the matriarchs of the two after meeting them.
"Well..." the brunet started. "All the better to prank them right?"
Sophie blinked and grinned, the growing mischievous look was getting intense by the second.
"Kakashi..." the girl said in a sing-song voice.
Sighing at the oddly persuading look of the two, Kakashi mumbled something beneath his breath and nodded.
Majority wins after all.
"Maa, so what's the plan?"
Snippet 9: Maru. (Seven Months)
The store is quiet, only the whirring sound of the electric fan thrummed in the background, disturbed by the sound of paper flipping once in a minute and the sighing of the lone owner of the store.
Maru hummed as he stared at the always repaired wall clock he had at the other side of the room. Ten minutes after one. Brown eyes glance at the door and back at the clock.
"He's pretty late." he mused as he pulled his hair band and re-tied his hair.
For once his attire wasn't all sooted up from his other job. The mech in the sector hadn't visited him for a while, so he had nothing left to do other than watch his store. He sometimes wondered why he even open this 'museum' of ancient creations. It might be because he inherited this from his parents...or the sentimentality behind it.
But needless to say, ever since he got the shop no one had ever bought even a single book, forcing him to work on other areas so can have something to stuff his stomach with. The life here, while not as extravagant as the other sectors, were...livable, not too up high nor too low. Just mediocre.
Though, honestly, at twenty-eight, Maru was getting tired of the repetition in his life. Wake up, eat breakfast, repair something, buy food, watch the shop, close the shop, eat dinner, sleep and repeat. It felt nearly robotic and he's getting little joy out of it.
"Ah, If the parallel worlds are true...I wonder what will I be?" he mused as he stared at the cover of his book, a fiction one that he grabbed along the way. It had all the inter-dimensional jargons but seeing you're parallel counterpart provide some amusing thoughts.
A squeak of the door and the tinkle of the bell echoed softly.
"Trust me, Maru, I like you much better in this world." a young voice answered and glancing by the door. Maru saw the only regular customer he had in his shop.
"How could you know Kakashi?" he asked raising a brow at the masked little kid.
Hatake Kakashi might be the only customer he had, even then, Maru never knew much about the eccentric kid. Most store owners by now will have at least the general information of a regular customer, but Maru only knew three things about the kid.
One: the kid's name. Two: he likes to read books and. Three: he lives at the higher sectors.
"Yo." the kid eye-smiled. "It's just a hunch, and you're nice."
Maru scoffed and crossed his arms, leaning back on the makeshift chair he made. "Here to replenish your stock I see."
His brow ticked when the boy nodded and made a bee line to the very familiar isle.
Let's add another one to the list... Four: The kid's a growing pervert.
"Kakashi." he warned in a low voice.
"Maa, I'm just checking if someone bought one of my favorites here." The boy waved and entered the isle.
Despite losing sight of the masked kid, Maru still replied. "You're the only customer in my shop, no one would buy a book except you." He sighed and stood up, he knew by now that the kid would peek at the pages from time to time. While he might not be a parental type of guy, Maru knew that he should at least stop the growing self corruption the kid is doing.
...until the boy reaches eighteen, that is...
Just as he thought, the second that he reached the isle he saw Kakashi putting back a book on the shelf. Crossing his arms and tapping his foot on the floor, Maru gave the boy a deadpanned glare.
"What did I say?"
"Ahaha...I'm just checking, see?" the masked kid sheepishly replied as he patted the rim of the book. "Could I at least have those on reserve?"
"No."
The boy gave a very distinct look and Maru knew that Kakashi is pouting.
"Maa, I'm going to buy those when I reached the majority age anyway. So why can't I have an early start?"
Maru sighed deeply, that question had thrown at him for months now and his reply would always be the same.
"It's principle of the matter kid." he said and nudged the kid out of the isle and into one of the that the boy frequently went at.
"Kill joy." Kakashi muttered and Maru watched the boy slumped down on the floor and began searching the lower shelves.
"I try my best." he smirked and left the boy alone after making sure that the kid won't be sneaking back to that isle.
"Ah, Maru." the boy called out, making him pause in his steps. "I've been meaning to ask this question."
He turned his head at the side and rose an eyebrow at the boy. "What is it?"
"Are these books." The boy said, gesturing at the store. "The only stock you got?"
"I'm afraid so." he replied while raking a hand on his red hair. "This is the only 'stock' I have and if you keep this up, you might buy all the books."
"Ah, you're wrong about that." Kakashi replied, eyes glued on the back of a book that he picked second ago.
"What part?" Maru asked, clearly curious. The boy had been buying all sorts of books and even magazines.
"I'm not going to buy all of it." the boy drawled, looked up and tilted his head. "I think I'll leave a set or two to you."
Maru chuckled and shook his head exasperatedly. "And what books are you going to leave me with?"
The boy scrunched up his brows in a frown. "Fifty Shades."
Snippet 10: Training. (Eight Months)
"I'm here." Kakashi announced as he entered his training ground.
At first glance people would have thought that the clearing was a scene from a warring area. Scorched trees, soggy ground and splintered woods, the only thing to complete the sight were blood. Thankfully, no one battled here, just a ninja kid training his jutsus. Besides, seeing a very large bio-mech wolf sleeping by the fallen trunk would have gotten most of the attention.
A yip echoed behind the larger one and not a second later a miniature version leaped out from behind the trunk and Kakashi channeled chakra on his legs just in time to feel the not-so-large pup jumped at his limb. The additional pounds the pup gained over the weekend surprised him and Kakashi quickly shifted his position and sat on the ground, catching the rest of the pup in his arms.
The action gave the small wolf the advantage to lick his face. When the smell of blood reached his nose and Kakashi quickly leaned away, luckily the canine only drooled on his mask.
"Kami! Did you just ate?" He asked, lifting the pup by it's arms, tails wagging happily.
The small canine smiled showing pinkish set of teeth to him.
Kakashi groaned. "Maa, the smell won't come off easily you know?"
The pup only tilted his head.
He huffed and gently let the canine down on the ground. Kakashi stood up and patted his clothes, letting the dust puff out.
"Yo, Elana." He greeted the larger wolf with a wave.
It was actually E1An-A, Kakashi had misinterpreted it after seeing the mark on the tail of the larger wolf, though it didn't seemed to mind the name. Kakashi had researched the tag after he took notice and he was horribly surprised to know that the wolf had been subjected to experiments. This is one of the first 'underneath' information that he got in this world.
There was a syndicate in this world that had been experimenting on animals years ago and after the authorities manage to bust it out, the experiments had been released in the wild after getting a clearance for their behavior.
Frankly speaking, Kakashi had been reminded of Orochimaru of the situation.
The new world had a lot of things being hidden from the public and he knew just from this tidbit that there might be more gruesome thing that he didn't know.
Though, unless those kinds of matter won't be directly affecting his family, Kakashi won't pry, but he knew he'll need to start his information network...just for prevention's sake.
The wolf raised, its head from the ground and nodded to him in greeting. It was surprising to realize that the wolf doesn't mind his presence after all it had gone through the hands of humans.
"I'll be training my jutsus for a while." Kakashi added and saw the ears twitched at the word 'jutsu'. "So you know the drill."
It still amaze Kakashi how nonchalant the pair was on his abilities. The first time they stumbled on his training ground, the pair witnessed his first successful C-class jutsu, a earth jutsu that turned the ground into spikes. Instead of being afraid at the display of power like the animals in the area, the older of the two had seemingly drawn into it. From then on, the two would come over his training area to observe him up until Kakashi decided that it would be fine to interact with them.
And so, came out his sandwiches. The ever curious pup bounded after it in seconds followed by the parent. As the number of times the three of them meet, Kakashi finally got the trust of the two after the mother left her pup alone with him in the clearing one day. Kakashi felt like it was Christmas that day.
The wolf let out a yawn and began to stretch, Kakashi watched in fascination as the claws extended and the metallic tail let an inch of the blade out. It then barked at the pup, who gave a bark of its own. Moments later, Kakashi watched the two leaped out of the clearing and into the bushes where they'll be safer from any of his attacks.
The notion of pack, lingered his mind as he glanced at the direction of where the wolves exited. It would be nice, to have some of the canines surround him and even talk to them no matter how one-sided it was. He still don't know whether the wolf fully accepted him or not, but Kakashi hoped that one day it would happen.
After all he didn't even try the summoning the jutsu after he saved the pup.
He placed his bag on the log and began to stretch his body. Taijutsu lessons had gone well with his training with Li, the squinty-eyed boy had already taught him three styles in these past months. Mastering them would take a while, but Kakashi wasn't in a hurry.
Hi training with the Volleyball on the other hand is very slow. He could only visit that club once a week and sometimes none at all. Kakashi, however, doesn't mind it, he was still affected by Rin's counterpart and the lesser he sees her, the lesser the nightmares would appear.
It's kinda awful for him to do that, but his emotional barrier always cracked when he sees the woman. Nevertheless, his training with the players gave his body the work out it needed.
Kakashi grunted at the last stretch and walked towards his bag, pulling out his watch on the side pocket and placed a timer on it. His training would be at least five hours in order to compensate for the days he won't be training here. A bit too much for a six year old, but Kakashi would be restless if he didn't meet his intended quota.
When the countdown began, Kakashi shifted into a stance and began his training.
Snippet 11: First Sight (Five Months)
Tobias hummed as he watched the club members spar. Naruto and Sasuke were at it again after the two had thrown insults to one another after the beginning of the match. He knew that that two would get bruises but after he got clearance for the club to enter in the inter-school competition since they were the only club with martial artists as members. The team would need to brush up their fighting skills.
Compared to the boys, the two girls, Sherry and Arma are doing the kata based spar. Leaving Itachi to be handled by Li. Kakashi on the other hand was no where to bee seen, he had still yet to inform the masked boy about their entrance- while two geniuses won't be entering the competition, it would be better to warn them.
Tobias perked up as he felt the vibration of his phone and after he opened his device he rose a brow.
-I'm training in the volleyball today :) - Kakashi-
There was an odd smiley at the end and Tobias chuckled at sign. Pocketing his device, he made his way to Li.
"I'm going down for a bit." he announced at the teen instructor.
"Where to?" Li asked.
"Elementary Gym, Kakashi won't be with us for this day, so I gotta inform him about the interschool." he replied as he shifted his glasses.
"Won't be it better to message him?" Sherry piped in, their spar is on hold after his little announcement.
Tobias chuckled. "Knowing that boy, he won't open it until tomorrow. It's better for me to tell him in person."
"Got that right." Sasuke drawled as he dodged a fist.
"Can I come?- Woah!" Naruto asked as he backflipped away from the high kick.
"Nah, you two just beat each other up." Tobias replied with a wave as he exited their room.
It took twenty minutes for him to reach the Elementary gym, the lifts is getting overloaded by the amount of students going home. Tobias had taken his time looking for the volleyball court, there were a lot of balls flying overhead and he nearly got hit by an escaped tennis ball on his way.
When he reached the court, he froze when he saw someone.
Now, his relatives might have teased him for being a hopeless romantic but Tobias never gotten date-dates in his twenty-years of living. Sure, there puppy love in his Highschool and even some in his College, but they got into the 'serious' part of the relationship. So in the end, he held back his love life for his work.
Well...until now.
Twinkling blue eyes, flowing brunet hair, gentle smile. Tobias un-zoomed his eyes as he got the full view of the woman just a few feet away from him. Lean arms, powerful legs, and those!...
Is she the trainer for the club? He never seen her before in the building, teachers on different level of schooling rarely meets. But Tobias is very glad to have this opportunity, a chance to meet someone so...
"I think I'm in love..." he whispered.
He was so into his dreamland that Tobias didn't see the ball coming towards him.
Reality pulled him out with a very loud smack.
"Oh shit!" a loud voice cursed.
"Language Harold!" ah, angry or not, that voice is angelic. "Three blockers! You know the drill!"
Soft feet padded by his ears and it was only then that Tobias realized he had fallen on the floor. Soft gentle hands pulled him on a seating position and the first thing that Tobias saw was those baby blue eyes.
"Sir? Are you okay? You were hit on the head. Hard." the woman spoke running a hand through his hair and Tobias couldn't help but shiver at the feeling.
Speechless, Tobias could only blink.
"Sir?"
"..."
"Could you- uh please repeat that."
"Cupid hit me."
"I am not cupid! You jerk!" Harold remarked on the court.
"Ignore him." the woman spoke with an eye roll. "So what brings you to the Volleyball club?"
"I-ah...Kakashi?" Tobias replied intelligently.
"Uh, what of him?"
The defensive tone of the woman manage to snap him out his daze. Tobias hurriedly stood up, the woman following suit seconds after.
"Oh, I'm his TIC in the Taijutsu Club. I'm here to inform him about something." he said with a bit of formality in his voice.
" Hatake, huh." the woman mused and blinked as if something dawned on her. "Ha! So you're the TIC of the Taijutsu club."
Ah, a topic to start off. "Yeah, I'm Tobias Uchiha, and you are?"
"Reyn Honora."
Finally a name!
"I'll call him for a second." Reyn smiled and Tobias was blinded by it.
He was giddy at knowing the name of the woman, and his body showed it by shivering in excitement. Something about that player just made something click at the back of his head. He watched as the female walked to a court where the members are running back and forth. The silver haired genius with them.
His happiness, however, was short lived when he saw the kid pale as Reyn pointed at him. Kakashi glanced at him and back at the woman in undiscerned...regret? Shock? Tobias was never sure, the look was gone in just a blink of an eye.
How odd.
Kakashi reached him seconds later and Tobias was worried when he saw the kid wiping his sweat. Tobias narrowed his eyes when he saw the limb shivering despite the lack of any visible form of exhaustion.
"Kakashi? Are you alright?"
"Aa. Just- just tired." the kid offhandedly commented.
Tobias would have pressed for more but something stopped from asking more questions. He shook his head and left the matter alone for now.
"Well, I'm just here to inform you about the Club's entrance with the interschool competition, this year." Tobias smiled and ruffled his hair, so he was right that Kakashi had shaken up by something. The cold sweat he felt on the masked kid's forehead was enough clue for him.
"Maa, is that all?" Kakashi asked while crossing his arms.
"Yea- no." Tobias smiled as he glanced at Reyn who was serving on one side of the court. "Can I have your trainer's number?"
The little genius made a deadpanned look.
"What? In case I want to contact you when you're in Volleyball Club." he reasoned.
"Seriously?" Kakashi rose a brow.
"Very much." Tobias grinned and nodded.
The boy rolled his eyes and walked back to his court.
"Whatever, I'll send it after the club."
Tobias rubbed the back of his head in confusion as he stared at the back of Kakashi.
'What's gotten him snappish?'
Snippet 12: Trouble (Six Months)
Samantha valiantly tried to comfort the headache that was growing. But the longer she looked at the three people before her, the faster it intensified. It was enough that she have the documents to sign off and the archives she always had deal with everyday, adding the now three troublemakers in the mix is more than enough.
"What. Did. You. Do. Now?" she asked, stressing each word.
"Nothing." Kakashi spoke, shrugging as the masked kid crossed his arms at the back of his head.
"Nothing?" Samantha parroted, raising an incredulous eyebrow. She flicked her fingers at the hologram at her side and the program quickly showed the pictures Hennison twins. "Is there something different about Kakashi's classmates?"
Sophie tilted her head at the side, an amusing look on her eyes. "Oh, they're frowning."
Samantha looked at Iruka. "Ditto."
Sighing annoyingly at the responses, she let eyes drop on the only genius on the group.
"Maa, you forgot the rainbow colored hair of theirs." the kid mused with an eye-smile. "It's an improvement, don't you think?"
A giggle sprouted from the girl and Iruka failed to catch the laughter in his chest.
"Regardless of that." She huffed and closed the hologram. "Those two reported that someone manage to change their shampoo into coloring dyes during their P. and Mr. And Mr. Hennison placed the blame on you three."
"On what basis?" The masked boy asked raising a brow.
"The growing infamy of your group." She replied as she rested her head on her hand. "Truthfully, the reason is feeble at best, but it was the only point the Hennison twins gave and nothing else."
"Miss Glass, you can't just take the words of a person on face value and accuse us of being the instigators." Kakashi defended. "Besides, they don't have evidences of us doing the deed."
Samantha blinked at the rather well worded defense. A small ding took her attention, checking her device she saw a notice sent by the security personnel.
"Be as it may, I ordered the security to check the entrances of the changing rooms in the Middle School Gym and if I see a hair of you in the clip, a two day suspension will be placed to you three and a message to your parents."
The three shared a look, wherein both of the older kids looked worriedly at the youngest in the group. Said youngest, just shook his head.
"A question Miss Glass before you play the clip." Kakashi said.
Samatha paused and nodded.
"Were you pressured for agreeing to the punishment?"
Samantha was taken aback by the words, how did Kakashi know? It was true that she was pressured by the school board or rather, one of its members- a relative of the Hennison to be exact. The man called her and demanded justice for the twins' change in appearance. Samantha at first didn't know what the man meant until the twins entered her office hours later- hair as colorful as the rarely seen rainbow-. It seems that they had contacted their parents before they decided to complain to the school authorities.
Needless to say, she was forced between a hard place and a rock.
"Yes." Samantha spoke with her teeth gritting one another. "I hope we are wrong about our assumptions, I'm rather fond of you three."
Kakashi eye-smiled while the other two gave her a somewhat constipated look, a mixture of elation and something she couldn't describe.
"I'm confident we're not the culprits Miss Glass." the boy commented and looked at the paused clip.
Samantha felt something odd bubbling in her chest at that remark.
She touched the play button and watched at the mid-paced video clip of the doors of the boy's changing room. The angle of the camera is far enough to see the whole body of each student who entered and exited the room.
The total time of the clip is twenty minutes and as what Kakashi said, none of them were even close to the vicinity. When they reached the part where the twins exited the room, sporting their new hair color, Samantha paused the clip.
"If I may ask, where were you three at this time?" She asked.
"Tech. Class." The three answered in unison.
Samantha mulled at the puzzles that never seemed to connect. None of the students had brought any liquid bottles in the room nor did the three before her were on that floor in that time. Which leaves the notion that the hair dyes are already in the room even before the P.E. Class of the twins had started. The problem is, how did the culprit knew which cubicles the twins would take and why were they the only ones victimized by the prank?
Nothing made sense, except for one thing. She mused as she looked at the three kids.
"You're free to go. I apologize for putting you in the hot seat." Samantha said after they finished reviewing the clip.
"Maa, it was your job, we don't mind." Kakashi waved and turned around. The other two just blinked in surprise. "Sophie, Iruka, we're dismissed, come on."
'Dismissed?' She thought, how oddly fitting. She watched the three troublemakers walked out of her office.
Shift.
"How did you manage to do that?" Iruka asked him as they entered the elevator.
Kakashi hummed and gestured at the camera with his eyes, he pulled out his FlatPad and pointed at it. Sophie quickly got the hint and dragged the brunet by her side, pulling her own device as well.
-Well?-
He nodded as he received the bubble of message in his screen. He quickly typed his response and leaned on the wall of the elevator. The little mishap he had in the lift had left a mark it seems, there was a small dent by the wall where he slipped that time.
-Just a touch of magic-
He saw Iruka taking the girl's FlatPad, the brunet's fingers seemingly flew as he typed his reply.
-Tell us the specs, you can't just leave us out on the last sec.-
Raising a brow at the response Kakashi quickly typed his and before touch the send button, added a smiley face. He knew first hand that he can't draw his chibi self with this device so he resorted to the next best thing.
-I told you, I did a magic trick :) -
Their plan is very simple, concoct a hair dye and switch it with the shampoos in the changing room. The huge problem they faced was 'how' are they going to do that. It took nearly three weeks for them to even get a draft of the plan since Iruka and Sophie took a lot of routes, ones that Kakashi knew that they would be easily found out.
He put his foot down after he got a headache as he heard the loopholed plan they made. Iruka and Sophie are much better in spontaneous planning, so using a bit of persuasion, he manage to wrangle the plans to himself. All the while saying he would take care of the switching himself, while the two would concoct the dye instead of him.
He still remembered the blueprints of the school and decided that he'll need to use another camera-less route, one that would be very obvious yet not at the same time.
Storage seals were such a nifty creation, while he might not be a master in the sealing arts he got a few pointer from his sensei during his apprenticeship- though using a pen to write the symbols felt new to him.
His plan, was to have the twins touch an object with their hands and let the seal transfer on their palm with a simple activation. This, he manage to accomplish when he purposely bumped the two before his reading class and accidentally let his book fall out of his hand. There was a small 'pass the book' teasing on the hallway until Kakashi manage to get it before a third person joined in.
Needless to say, all that trouble was worth it.
The last thing he'll need to do is to het the right timing to release the dye during their shower time. No matter haw much distance there is between him and his victims, a single hand sign was all it needed.
"You're unbearable." Iruka intone vocally as he read his reply, a brow twitching in ire.
"I try to be." He replied with an eye-smile.
Snippet 13: Reunion (Eight Months)
Kakashi sighed tiredly as the door slide open, revealing a crowded hallway, not by students though, but by parents. The last week of this month, the school had scheduled an open house, where parents could observe their child during their classes. He doesn't know what the purpose of this but he knew that was troublesome to pass through the hallway.
He might be a ninja but slipping through the small openings with such limited space is hard, his small stature didn't help as most of the parents bumped him, other times he was mistaken for a lost child despite him wearing a uniform.
Side stepping a couple, maneuvering around a standing tower of a guy and plastering himself on the wall as he let a rather hefty grandmother pass by, Kakashi quickly eyed the people. His mind whirling for the quickest route to get to the stairs, the longer the second he wastes here the later he'll be to get to his Calligraphy class.
Not that he minded, but his parents had agreed to arrive in the school during that class.
A sigh of relief escaped his masked lip...ah -his mask...maybe he'll fake coughing?- as he entered the stairs. Glad that the manual route is empty, Kakashi quickly ran down the stairs, pulsing his chakra through his limbs as he dropped floor by floor. Though, he still need to maintain the 'normal' limit of a civilian.
He was covered in thin sweat by the time he reached his Calligraphy class, good news is, he was only late by just ten minutes. It's odd, to get the feeling of excitement bubbling in his chest as he glanced at the additional chairs at the back of the room, expecting to see the Hatake couple.
But his parents aren't here yet, strange, considering that Tamashi is a punctual person and whenever or wherever she goes Sakumo would be just a step behind.
The feeling of disappointment soon took over, Kakashi squashed it though, he had gone through with this situation in his previous life. With the White Fang always demanded on missions, Sakumo had rarely given him attention to his academy life- no matter how short it was.
Still, the Umino matriarch and the Zanne patriarch gave him smiles, Kakashi dutifully greeted them with a wave as he meandered his way to his seat. The second he sat, Kakashi felt his device vibrate, he pulled out his FlatPad and can't help but be relieved to see a message from his mother.
The two had been held back by his aunt, Tsunade- older sister of his mother actually. The woman might share the name of the Gokage, but his aunt was the polar opposite, in terms of personality. While sharing a similar job description with the Slug Princess, his aunt was a soft spoken person, quick to excite, loves cuddly things- his cheeks could attest to that- and against to all types of vices.
But back to the matter, his aunt's summon got in trouble with some of its program and Sakumo, who was supposed to meet his mother, just arrived in time to hear her woes, graciously decided to fix it. It was this very reason why the two were late, currently, his father is still fixing the summon and Tamashi said that it would Sakumo the better half of the hour to finish it.
In the end, they decided to just visit him in his Club meeting.
So with a brimming eye-smile Kakashi began to write the paragraph on the screen, even with the sight of his crooked letters- an improvement from it being a chicken scratch- didn't damper his excitement.
Club
Kakashi paused as he walked near to their club room, there was a loud echoes of laughter and noises that should never be heard in the first place. Li had only one rule when in comes to their training and that is peace- although Naruto and Sasuke always broke it when their spars became heated. Nevertheless, Kakashi was more curious than ever to know why was there chaos.
Tilting his head at the side when he heard familiar laughter, Kakashi stopped just before the door would automatically open itself. There was another giggle that join in and Kakashi rose an eyebrow when he realized that it was his parents.
He's early for once on this day, and Kakashi had never been excited to see his parents. He never felt this kind of enlightened feeling before, it might be because of his age but Kakashi frankly enjoyed this feeling.
He stopped just before the doorway and waited for the program to acknowledge him.
"Maa, I thought that we'll meet in this kind of set up." Sakumo's voice remarked, slightly muffled.
Kakashi rose a brow when he heard another familiar voice, one that reminded of someone...the hairs at the back of his head stood up and Kakashi stiffened as something clicked at the back of his mind.
"Yeah, though it's better that sitting stiffly by the meeting table don't you think?" a low yet smooth voice replied.
Sakumo's chuckle was muffled. "I agree, Minato."
Kakashi snapped out of his mind as door slid open, Kakashi was still frozen in place but the sight of a shocking blond hair was enough to make his muscle move.
He never knew why but Kakashi ran, away from his club, away from that man.
Kakashi knew Minato existed -lived-, after all Naruto is here, but that thought was always locked at the back of his mind...until now.
It was bad enough that Rin and Obito are here in this building. Day by day, seeing the counterparts of his dead teammates had taken a lot out of him -from hiding the pain on every glance he gave them, and mercifully killing the notion that they might remember him- Kakashi endure the damages in his psyche but he's not sure if he can even endure seeing his sensei.
"Oi! No runnin- Kakashi?"
Kakashi staggered as he glanced back, unshed tears brimming in eyes as he saw Tobias and Reyn on the hallway. Ever since those two had met, Kakashi knew that the man would court Reyn, it was very obvious just by seeing that dazed look.
Now, after three months, Reyn had seemed to accept the courtship, if the holding hands had anything to say. Kakashi was truly happy for the two. Obito and Rin had never matured or even got the chance to get past their crushes. It was light heartening to see them together.
However, even with such positive thought, his mind quickly relapsed to the image of Minato, Kakashi cringed and continued to run.
"Kakashi!" Tobias yelled.
"Comfort Room!" he hollered weakly.
Shift.
Tobias looked worriedly as he watched the running small figure turn on the corner.
"Something's wrong." Reyn murmured her lips pursed as he eye took the same worried expression as his.
"I know." He sighed and let go of the her hand. "I'll go after him, his parents are already in the club room, you go ahead and tell them. Please?"
"Sure." Reyn smiled encouragingly while patting his arm. "Make sure he's okay."
"I will." Tobias nodded and he ran to the direction where the little genius ran off to.
The comfort room is empty. It was strange for Kakashi to use the ones on the hallways, they got their own back in the club room. Which lead him to believe that he saw something -or someone- in the room that made the boy run. Who or what it is, Tobias doubt he'll even know.
Running past the stairs, Tobias stopped dead and walked back. It was just a hunch but something in his heart pulled at him when he passed the area.
When the door slid open, the first thing that Tobias heard was the soft sniffles in the air. Glancing over the railings, his heart dropped when he saw Kakashi slouching on one of the steps below. Head lowered and shoulders shaking.
Tobias walked down keeping his steps as silent as possible. When he was just a flight away, he saw the surgical mask being held tightly that the knuckles turned white. He never saw the boy this distressed and it confused him more than ever. What made Kakashi turn out like this?
Kakashi was confident yet odd kid, he always felt that mature air around him whenever they meet and seeing the genius this...broken unsettled him.
He was just a step a away from the boy and Tobias redirected his gaze away when Kakashi glance at him- it felt wrong to him to see the boy this open. He sat down by the boys side and looked directly at the wall before them.
"Hey." he greeted.
"..."
"Kakashi..." Toobias trailed off the words seemingly dying in his mouth as Kakashi shifted beside him. "...Are you okay?" he asked lamely.
"Somehow..." the kid murmured.
"Did someone...uh- bothered you?"
"..."
No reply.
"You know, I heard telling someone of your problem helps...not that I'm prying but you're making me worry." he started.
"It does." Kakashi agreed and sighed. "..but you won't understand."
"I won't, if you don't tell me." Tobias softly replied.
There was a moment of silence as Tobias waited, he never expect the kid to speak but at least he could distract the boy from his thoughts with a conversation.
"...Have you..." the boy started. Tobias saw Kakashi glancing upwards seemingly looking at the sky despite being inside a building. "...Have you ever had a friend that never remembered you?"
Tobias mused, the words were vague at best but there was a hint of truth in it. "Like amnesia?"
"Aa...but far more worse than that." Kakashi whispered in a weak voice, a voice that fits someone who was lost. "You see them...meet them...know them...but in the end they never remembered you."
"...It's like seeing living ghosts." The boy continued and Tobias felt the pain echoing along the words. "It hurts to see them...but second chances like this doesn't happen once in a lifetime."
"Are you seeing them right now?" Tobias was honestly lost but the question just jumped out of his mouth.
Kakashi shifted again and the boy was now looking at him. Tobias only saw those red rimmed eyes looking at him...through him.
"I am."
Tobias froze with those two words...
He could hear rocks falling, smell the blood of the corpse and feel the crushing pressure in his body, but as soon as he heard it...
...It disappeared. He blink at the odd experience and shook his head.
"Maa, we better go back to the club...and please don't tell my parents about this." Kakashi chirped seemingly bouncing back to his odd self as he stood up, mask already in place.
"Uh...Sure." He murmured still taken aback by what happened as he followed the boy back to their floor.
Shift
They made a detour to the comfort room as he needed to remedy the redness in his eyes. The talk with Obito's counterpart helped him...somehow. The little break down he had earlier was expected but the short time he got with the conversation was enough to prepare him from meeting his sensei.
When the door of the club room opened once again, Kakashi's eyes quickly directed towards Minato. The man still have the kind blue eyes he always remembered and the only change the man got was the hairstyle.
A pang of guilt struck in his heart as he saw his sensei and small cracks began to appear in his barrier as he remembered the days he was apprenticed under the man's teaching. Minato was endearingly unbearable at first, always babying him and tried to break him out of his stoic persona. It annoyed him and most of the time he ignored the helping hand that the man always held out.
Kakashi regretted that he never got the chance to reach out for it, until the man died. Seeing the counterpart of the man he looked up as a second father, Kakashi knew that he'll be just an acquaintance to the man...a friend at most. No more fond ruffles not have that daily intake of Ramen. But this Minato and his sensei are different and yet similar at the same time. It's like...
...Seeing a ghost.
What a fitting statement.
"Ah, Tobias...late as always I see." Minato greeted with a winning smile, the man's eye quickly landed to his and Kakashi returned it with an eye-smile. "And you must be Sakumo's son, I heard a lot of you from Naruto. I'm Minato Namikaze by the way."
"Aa, Hatake Kakashi." he introduced. "Nothing too embarrassing I hope?"
"Nope, just something along the lines of being a cool little brother."
"Little brother?" Sakumo asked raising a brow, his mother on the other hand let out a giggle.
"My, Kashi-chan your number of siblings are growing." she commented.
"Yeah, older kids are vying for my attention...I think I'll be a celebrity by the time I graduated here." he replied with humor as he walked towards his father, most of the adult chuckled at his remark. "I hope not." he whispered.
Sitting beside his father, Kakashi looked at their visitors. There was a Chinese woman -Li's mother?- at the corner drinking contently at the juice provided, beside her was Mikoto's counterpart. There was also a nicely dressed man with pink hair -Sherry's father?- making a small talk with an army like man -Ten-Ten's?-. Reyn on the other hand was with his mother, the latter seemingly interrogating the Volleyball player with something. Kakashi was sure it was about him.
He watched as Obito sauntered towards Reyn, the action didn't go unnoticed by the women who began to redirect their attention to the pair. Twin blushes peppered the cheeks, Obito was more intense as Mikoto's remark about seeing nieces or nephews.
Kakashi realized something as he glanced at Minato, Tobias and Reyn.
Team 7 had unknowingly reunited in this little event. It was a sad moment though, none of them knew each other, Kakashi doubted that he could get that same level of relationship he had with them in his previous life. At least, they're alive.
But something is missing...or someone...three people exactly.
"Where are the others?" he questioned, noticing the lack of younger people in the room.
"They're in the training area." Minato answered while gesturing at the door on their left.
"Oh." he remarked.
"Maa...Kashi, I've been meaning to ask this, but why are you wearing a surgical mask?" Sakumo asked.
Snippet 14: Study (Nine months)
Sakumo watched through the holograms of the schematics and the design that Rob proposed to him earlier that day as the door of his study opened revealing a tired and haggard Kakashi. It was odd seeing that look on his son's face, most of the time he always saw that look on the mirror when he got home.
"Kashi? Anything I can help?" he asked, knowing that the exams for the year is just a week away. He knew how hard the curriculum is, even a genius like him was pressured to meet his intended marks.
It's the same for Kakashi it seems.
He watched as his son looked at the hologram and glanced at the load brought, a FlatPad and a drawing book turned reviewer.
"Nevermind, dad...you got a lot in your hands." Kakashi replied with a yawn. "I'll ask Kuro."
"Maa, don't be like that." Sakumo chuckled as he waved his arms in the air, the hologram quickly dying out. "I'm just checking out Rob's design, nothing too important." he added as he gestured at his son on the couch.
"You sure?" Kakashi asked in hesitation.
"Very." He smiled as he sat on the couch and patted the empty seat beside him.
Kakashi shrugged and walked towards him, he watched as his son sat beside him an stretched with a sigh. Sakumo ruffled the silver locks. "Rough night?"
"Aa, writing a reviewer sucks." Kakashi commented as he flipped his reviewer open.
Sakumo looked at it's contents and beamed in pride as he saw the progress in his son's handwriting. The reviewer was a project of sorts with their Calligraphy class, a very beneficial project if he had anything to say, it helps students to study their lessons. Their grade would be based on the neatness of the contents and the quantity in it. Sakumo knew for sure that his son would get high marks, the drawing book had just a quarter space left unwritten.
"So, what subject are having trouble with?" he asked.
"Tech class." Kakashi replied placing the book down and brought up his device, showing a page of with a lot of diagrams that Sakumo is familiar with. "I'm having trouble understanding the concepts, dad. The principles never made any sense to me and..."
His son continued to ramble on with his problem, fingers sliding back and forth on the screen as he showed him the lessons. Kakashi would make a great addition to the technology world with the amount of curiosity he has.
"Son, why don't you make a list of your questions and we'll take it one after another ne?" he suggested.
"Was it too much?" Kakashi asked tilting his head cutely at the side.
"Maa, organizing would be a much better word." he chuckled.
"Ah, sure." Kakashi blinked and not a second later he was already furiously writing on a piece of paper. It was kinda cute to see his son this concentrated, what, with the little tongue sticking out from the pursed lips.
'It's going to be a long night...' Sakumo thought as he glanced at the digital clock in his room, showing the time of ten thirty-six.
Snippet 15: Name (Ten months)
"How about Inu?" Kakashi mused out loud as he stared at the sky while he laid against the fallen trunk in his training ground.
The was a small huff and a growl echoing behind him.
"Redundant ne?" he asked.
"Hmm...Hashirama?"
A very loud bark snapped.
"Too long?" he chuckled as he heard a low whining sound.
"Kurama?"
This time to small wolf in his lap barked and nipped his hand.
"Not your type then, that's more like a fox's name." he eye-smile as he patted the head.
Kakashi hummed as he tried to think a name that would fit the pup. Today was the last day of the exams and he decided to visit the pair, leaving a bunshin back in the school to finish the rest. The tests were easy, except for his Tech. Class- even with his father's tutoring Kakashi still don't understand the principles, he knew them by word but the concept of it never clicked in with his mind-.
His reason for this bout of laziness was because he's stumped on what to do on the next three months.
Summer.
Months filled with nothing but vacations and expeditions, that's the notion of this break but to Kakashi it felt like a restraining order. Without a reason to go out, Kakashi couldn't train. No club...no volleyball...no training, he can't always visit Maru daily, twice a month is most he could do, even if he could, there would be a time limit to his visits.
Nothing came up in his mind as he tried to figure out his problem, this day might be the last meeting he'll have with the canines and Kakashi would enjoy the day with them as much as he could. He got used to their presence even if he only meets them twice a week. It would be weird not seeing them in the coming months.
He never planned to train this day and with no solution coming in his genius of a mind, Kakashi opted to name the pup.
A long whining sound came from his lap and Kakashi's eyebrows rose up when he saw the tilted head looking up at him. "Nothing is coming up in my mind, pup." He said amusedly.
"If your mother could talk I bet she had already a name for you." he added and craned his neck upwards to see the upsidedown view of the bio-mech wolf behind him. "Right, ELlana?"
The larger canine made a gruff sound as if it was agreeing to his statement.
"Maa, I wish Pakkun is here, he could translate your name in seconds." Kakashi murmured making the ears of the pup twitch at the said name, he gave the small canine an eye-smile and patted the head. "He's one of my summons -uh, dog summons to be exact. Pakkun is a pug and despite his small size, he was the leader of the pack...second leader I guess, since I was their boss."
A low huff resounded from his back and Kakashi glanced back at the mother. "Oh, don't be like that, Pakkun is smart, just like you Elana...and he could talk." He chuckled at the twin looks of confusion from the canines. "Yes, and only one out of the eight members in my pack couldn't. They're special like that."
The pup raised its ears and looked around, tail seemingly excited for something that Kakashi doesn't know. The larger wolf had quickly got the hint of its child and transferred to his side of the log and sat up in expectation.
Kakashi eyed the two in growing confusion, he blinked when he finally got the hint.
"Oh...they're...not here." Kakashi murmured somberly, remembering the amount of failures he achieved in his summoning. "They died...or never existed in this world... Having second chances never hurts this much" he sighed.
The pup raised his paws and patted his arm seemingly giving him comfort, all the while letting out a small whine.
"I miss them..." He remarked. "And I'll miss you two too."
This time the larger mech wolf tilted its head in question.
"The next three months is our school's summer break." Kakashi answered. "So I can't go out much, even if I could, I doubt I'll have enough time to visit you two."
The smaller canine had its ear cast down in disappointment and bundled up by his thigh, the larger one soon copied the action and lounged comfortably on his other side. His lap had been turned into an impromptu pillow by the mother and Kakashi began nonchalantly scratched the ears as he tried to find a solution on his problem.
Seconds ticked by and turned into minutes, hours soon followed after and when the sun lowered on the horizon. Kakashi went home without a solution to his dilemma.
