Chapter 25: Where is a DeLorean when you need one….
The tape stopped and snow dance across the screen. It sobered me and everyone in the room up immediately. "Well looks like the only thing Alec was telling the truth was that you guys would believe him over you," Rose said, mirthlessly. Then she looked at Emmett, "You – we're through mother fucker."
"Rose-," Emmett called, getting up, pleading with her.
"You knew about that bet Emmett and you know what I knew went through last year," Rose yelled, shaking her head, "Fuck all of you, you fucking legacy crew. Bella is worth a billion of you all." With that she stormed out of the room with Emmett following her pleading.
"Alice – this was rigged," Alec stammered. Very calmly Alice got up off his lap.
"You've been cheating on me all this time, haven't you," She said quietly, going very pale. I'm sure I didn't look any better. In fact, I seriously wanted to puke. Bella had been telling the truth and we, we…I started to hyperventilate, thinking of all shit we had just done and said about her. My God – we turned her hair orange. And the bet. – Jesus the bet.
Alice came up over to me, and patted my back gently to come me down. "She didn't know about the bet did she," I said getting up when the room stopped moving, glaring at Alec.
Alec shook his head looking pale. Tanya chose that moment to open her stupid mouth. "So what – she didn't know about the bet," Tanya started, "Big fucking deal Edward, she's leaving in a few months. What were you going to stay with her? At least with the bet you explain you were doing a charity project."
I whipped around and looked at her, seeing red. "Tanya – we're so done, it's not even funny. Get the fuck out of here," I told grabbing her arm and shoved her out the door before she had the chance to open her mouth again. Slamming the door, I could hear her outraged curses.
"Edward – come on – I did you a favor," Alec pleaded as I got up towards, him my fists clenched. He had broken two cardinal rules, you never tried to poach a mate's girlfriend and you never hurt his sister. Alec knew he was fucked.
"You know what," I said, pushing his shirt into the wall, "We're done. Stay the fuck away from Bella, my sister and me. We're fucking done."
Looking at Alice, I told her, "You and I have a lot of apologizing to do." I grabbed but not before she went up and slapped Alec.
"Bastard," she hissed as he touched his cheek in shock. Alice turned her heel and walked the door with me.
"Oh Edward, we destroyed her things, we bleached her hair," Alice moaned as we walked down the hall in search of humble pie.
"I know," I told her, my heart beating in my chest. At that point, I don't the coke was causing it. People were staring at us in disbelief. I had a horrible feeling that the video was making its way across the floor. Looking up at the monitor, I realized it wasn't my imagination, the video was indeed being played on the monitors in the hallway. Rose must have broken into the media room loaded the video. I could literally give a fuck at the moment. Finally we caught a break when I saw Lucy dart around a corner.
I could hear her voice, "Rose, Lucy want the hell am I going to do, I look like a goddamn smurf," Bella cried, "They ruined everything! I don't have any clothes!"
"I know – listen don't worry – we'll get something together," Rose sounding equally upset.
Alice ran away from before I could stop her. "Bella, wait, we can help you," she cried out. Bella turned around stared at Alice like she had a 2nd head.
"Don't come closer either one of you or I swear you're not getting up," she told us in a cold voice I had never heard from her before not even when we had been at our worse with her in the past. It sent shivers up my back.
"I know Alec was lying lo-" I started, hoping she would hear me out. Given the look she was giving me, I probably had a chance to grow a set of breasts.
"Shut up, I don't want to hear it," she yelled, "Actually what caused this magical epiphany?
"I had left the camera running last night. That's why we came back," Rose explained, "That's where I disappeared too, I was showing it to you and loaded it up it media center. It's running around the school right now. Sorry Bella – I forgot with all the excitement last night."
"Don't worry – it's not your fault," Bella told her, then she turned around faced us, her eyes blazing, "That belongs to these two assholes here. I'm going to say this one more time so listen STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM ME! Or so help me god – I will not be responsible for what I'll do to you two. Tell that you little friends in the Legacy crew. I have major presentation to give tonight and I am not going to let you guys fuck this up as well. I am going to get through this tonight despite what you did."
Just when I thought this couldn't get any worse, I heard, "Boy what are you doing here," Charlie demanded, "didn't I warn you not bother my daughter again." Charlie, Renee and their significant others came up
"We just came to apologize Charlie -," I started to say.
"Mr. Swan, my name is Mr. Swan," he told me in the same cold voice his daughter just used.
I looked at the rest of them and realized I had lost the right to use their first names. Defeated, I said, "I'm so sorry."
"Renee, Sue – get Bella out of here," Charlie told his ex-wife and fiancée.
"With pleasure," Renee said, taking her daughter by the shoulder. Sue just shot me a look that could melt glaciers.
"$4,326.26 cents," Charlie said, once his daughter was out of earshot.
"Pardon," I asked confused.
"That is what your little rampage cost," Charlie replied crossing his arms, "not counting the structural damage that you and friends did to the room."
"I'll write you a cheque right now," I muttered, thanking God, that I had my own checking account and that my parents never really looked at the balance. It was one of the reasons why I had been able to go California without any problems.
"I don't want your goddamn money. I want to speak with your parents and tell them what fine upstanding children they have," he barked, "Bella had to work her butt for half those things. I can't afford to give her everything she deserves but what her mother and I can do we give her. And you and your friends pissed all over it. Now you get of my face both you!"
Alice cringed into me, probably thinking about what our parents were going say. We turned around wondering how we were going to get out this one and more importantly would we ever be able to make it up to Bella.
BPOV
My parents had decided that I was going to spend the night with them. I had no clothes left at all, nothing to pack. I literally was wearing all the clothing I had left in world, outside of California. When I had returned to my room after making sure my exhibit was safe I took a closer look at the damage. Other than obvious damage to my bed, furniture and computer, I hadn't realized the extent. They had raided both my closet and dresser and shredded the clothes there. They were in tatters, everything from my uniforms, to my street clothes to my pajamas. The cups had been cut out of my bras and the crotches cut from my panties. Even my socks and shoes hadn't been left alone. They pulled off the heels and soles from them.
My corkboard had been destroyed, all my pictures were shredded – just everything was gone. My framed ones as well, the ones my friends had given me, a picture of me and my parents at the my junior high graduation. As bad as losing my computer and paint case was, I could replace those. I couldn't replace the photos on my corkboard.
My mom, Sue, Lucy and Rose went to action. Lucy ran to the drug store to grab me some tights. Rose took me to me to the salon to fix my head and skin. My Sue and my mom went to H&M to get some clothes for my immediate situation. I was guessing Phil's job was to make sure Charlie didn't murder the Legacy crew. Being a former MP and a sheriff I wouldn't be surprised if my dad knew how to make a murder look like an accident or hide the bodies where no one would ever find them.
Rose was sitting with me as my stylist, Stephan looked me over. He had been horrified when I walked through the door.
"Your hair, its like the Garfield," he said, "This looks like peroxide."
"I wouldn't be surprise," I replied, "Someone was playing a nasty trick on me."
He just shook his head. "They might as well have put depilatory cream on your hair. There is only so much I can do to fix this."
Stephan took a look at me from all angles. Frowning, he said, "Okay Bella this is what I going to do. Whatever they put in your hair really dried it out. I think the best thing would be to cut most of it off. The ends got the worse of it of it – thank god. I'll dye your hair back to as normal as possible. You'll have to keep coloring it until this grows out. The good news if you cut it off it won't take too long to grown back.
Realizing this was the best I was going to get, I said, "I don't care – do what you have to do. I have a presentation to give tonight and I can't give it as a circus freak."
"Darling by the time we're done, you'll look like smashing," he purred, rubbing his fingers. Given the stress, lack of sleep and emotional turmoil of the last 24 hours, I seriously doubted it.
Stephan, motioned the shampoo girl Chelsea over, she gasped at my hair pushed me back to the sink and washed my hair. It was enough to make me cry, which I did. Rose shot Chelsea a dirty look. On top of everything else, my hair was now in the hands of an overdramatic hairdresser and his whiny shampoo girl. Death would have been too good for Alice and Edward.
Two and a half hours later, I was finished. Stephen managed to give me a bob that was similar to Courtney Cox. Given how thick my hair was, there was no way it was going settle like Courtney's hair without the stuff that he put in my hair. It would curl up a bit but I was too relived to care. Instead of being burnt orange my hair color was dark brown again.
The time was now 5:30, I had just enough time to get dress and get back to school. My mom and Sue had grabbed enough clothes for me to get through the weekend. They promised to take me out this weekend and get more. They found a smart black suit and charcoal boat neck sweater. With a pair of chunky Mary Janes and tights I was set, at least fashion wise.
Walking back to the school, the air was definitely more subdued then early. People were looking at me sympathetically but at Rose like she was some sort of fungus. I guess Alice calling her a slut in public caused it. We both ignored looks and went to the hall where the presentations were set up.
Charlie and Renee excused themselves to find the headmistress or the principal as they called Mrs. Mulligan to discuss the vandalism. I tried to talk them out of it as I didn't want any more repercussions from the legacies or Rose to get into trouble for the video. They flat out refused to dropped it and both Sue and Phil told me to let my parents handle it and focus on my presentation. So there I was standing there by my exhibit ignoring Alice and Edward who were trying to get my attention.
Mr. Collins from Cambridge came over to introduce himself and look at my work. With all the drama I had completely forgotten him. I explained my diorama and the paintings to him. The idea for the city had been based off an idea I had for green technology. "Ms. Swan this is amazing," he said, looking at it, after I finished speaking.
"Thank you," I said, feeling anxious. Given everything that happened, I had to laugh at the irony. Yesterday I would be jumping for joy and today – well today was today.
"Ms. Swan have you given any more thought to Cambridge, I can definitely find you a spot," Mr. Collins asked. His eyes were greedily eating up my work.
"To be honest Mr. Collins," I said, "I've always from home for a long time. I have a full scholarship to RISA and they're willing to start me as a 2nd year with all my A-levels. Financially it just makes more sense for me to there."
"Well if you change your mind, let me know, we can make changes into May," Mr. Collins, said, giving me a card, "Mr. Putnam told me a little of your time. Anyone who can do what you did – while that's the type of student we want at Cambridge."
"I will," I lied, knowing there was no way I would ever voluntarily spend more time in the UK again. We shook hands again and he was on his way.
More people came, professors, scholarship representatives, my family, some friends I had made through the years. Lucy pointed out to me that I had the most traffic then the other booths. Finally Carlisle and Esme Cullens came. "Bella," Esme said coming up, then got a good look at me, a little startled, "Darling you cut you hair."
I give her a small smile. Obviously her darling children had not informed on what they did. By the way Esme and Carlisle were smiling at me they obviously thought Edward and I were still dating.
"Yes," I replied curtly, they were a little surprised at my tone.
"Well – its lovely, it really sets off your face," Carlisle said, hugging me, "you look so grown up."
It really set off my father, I thought dryly. "Thank you," I told him, trying to remember the manners Charlie had instilled in me.
"This really amazing Bella," Esme said, "All these paintings of Edward and Alice. Well they must be flattered."
I just smiled and held my tongue. It I didn't have this stupid presentation tonight, I would have just burned the whole lot. "Please feel free to any of them," I told her, neglecting to tell her she would be doing me a favor to get rid of this crap.
"Thank you," she beamed. Over her shoulder, I had the pleasure of watching Alice and Edward squirmed. They were obviously waiting for the other shoe to drop. Too bad Miss. Rawlins, the video yearbook advisor had turned it off. It would have helped as a visual aid when my father spoke with them.
As if he was reading my thoughts, Carlisle asked, "Where are your parents Esme and I have really been looking forward to seeing them."
"Over there," I said, pointing them out. Charlie and Renee were standing with their partners by the punch speaking with Mr. Collins and Mr. Parson my physics teacher.
"Well we're going to introduce ourselves to them. We should all try and have dessert after so we can celebrate your show," Esme said beaming.
I just smiled blandly. I think the only Charlie wanted to celebrate this was Edward's head next to the moose in our living room. This should be interesting as watched the Cullens go over to my parents. The look on Charlie's face when he realized who the Carlisle and Esme were was priceless. Equally as priceless were the expressions on Alice and Edward when they realized they were busted.
EPOV
This had been the most miserable night I had ever had. Once we got back to the dorm room, I grabbed my shit and ignored a pleading Alec. Emmett allowed me to stay with him. Alice came by a few minutes later and shoved a box of Alec's things to him.
Going to the show, a number of people had given us, including Tanya, Emmett and Alec, the cold shoulder. The story had apparently gotten around. People who knew Bella were blocking us from going anywhere near her. Headmistress Mulligan had pulled us, aside to ask Alice why Mr. Swan suddenly wanted his daughter out of their room and why was Ms. Swan's hair. Alice cringed. We didn't have a chance to speak with our parents either. They were late due to an accident on the road and the car phone reception wasn't good enough to tell them the story to them on the phone.
"Oh bloody hell," Alice cursed. Looking up I realized that Carlisle and Esme had made their way to over to Bella's parents.
"Christ," I said, realizing that they were going to hear this from Charlie first.
Charlie's face darken, and Renee gasped. Gesturing our parents to the side, their eyes started to bulge when Charlie started to speak. Looking up, my father called out, "Edward, Alice come here right now."
Feeling like a convicted murderer, I walked over. "Edward, Alice please tell Bella's parents that this is a mistake. That you wouldn't do anything like this," Carlisle said.
Alice looked down and I looked away.
"Edward, Alice," Esme cried, horrified, "Oh my god how could you?"
"There is at least $4000 worth of damage to my daughter's things," Charlie continued.
"Not too much what we had to buy today," Renee snapped, "My daughter had no clothes, nothing. Just want she was wearing! They even tore up her underwear."
"You're lucky we're not filing charges," Phil added, clearly furious.
"And that's only because Bella wants to forget about this, and doesn't what any further harassment," Sue said, looking at us disgusted.
"I'm so sorry," Esme replied meekly, "We'll get you a cheque this evening. Of course we'll reimburse you for whatever Edward and Alice did."
Charlie was just getting started. "Your son has been harassing my daughter since she started school here. He has been the ringleader for a bunch of twerps. I didn't say anything against my better judgment because I believe Bella has to learn to fight her own battles but this, this is beyond reason! What right does he or your daughter had to treat anyone this way," he yelled furiously.
Sue put on an arm on him, to calm him. He took a deep breath and said, "You keep your children away from my daughter because next time I will be pressing charges and writing a letter to the college Edward is attending next year."
With that the Swan clan left. Carlisle and Esme looked at them in shock as they went back to Bella. My father turned around as white as a ghost and then saw me and Alice and glowered. "Edward, Alice –," he looked at us and shook his head, "I don't even know where to begin."
"Well how do – what the hell where you two thinking," my mother demanded.
"I think Bella was trying to steal Alec," Alice said, meekly.
"I thought Bella was using Alice to get even with me for the way I treated her before," I replied softly. People were looking over at us, interested. My parents were so upset they didn't care about the attention we were getting.
"Oh for the love of God! Alice you did this over a boy who frankly didn't care about you," my mother yelled. Alice cringed.
"And Edward you thought Bella was getting even with you for some horrible prank you did," my father demanded.
"We used to tease her a lot. It wasn't until this year I realized how amazing she was," I tried to explained.
"So let me get this straight, you bullied her, made a bet about, and thought she was using Alice to get even," My mother asked.
I nodded. "How stupid could you be," my mother said, smacking me on the back of my head, "I raised you both to use your common sense. You both need to apologize to her immediately!"
"We tried, she won't talk to us," Alice sniffled.
"What a surprise," Carlisle said dryly, "But what I will say that this is a surprise that you two would act this way. Your mother and I raised you better then this."
I nodded but Carlisle wasn't done either. "I didn't come an affluent background. In fact my background is a lot like Bella's. You know what it was like for me at Oxford and yet you acted the same way as those idiots I went to school with," he said sternly, "I have never been so disappointed in my entire life. Es – we need to go now, I can't look at them."
My mother shot us a withering a look. "We'll be back later," she said in the no nonsense voice we rarely heard from her. That hurt almost as much as my breakup with Bella. In my 18 years, my parents had never been disappointed.
AN: Well there you have it – have thing is out in the open. The only question is if Edward and Alice can find forgiveness with Bella. I debated pushing their behavior out to the end of the year but decided that might be a little much sorry to anyone who may have thought this was a little too short.
A couple quick cultural references to explain. In case you haven't seen it or have no idea what a DeLorean is – it was the car in Back to the Future used as time machine. As the for the haircut Bella got – in the 2nd season of Friends, Monica's hair was accidently hacked by Phoebe when she was giving her a haircut. It was hysterical – if I can get time – I might post the hairstyle later this week. Thank you again for everyone who read, reviewed, favorite, follow or view this story.
