Episode 26
SCENE 1
(Camera opens up to a drawn portrait of Cal, as the camera zooms out, we see Paul is holding it. He looks over to the bed across from him where Cara is siting with Cal's guitar. She strums the strings but doesn't actually know how to play. She sighs and puts the guitar down, wiping tears from her face with the back of her hand.)
Cara: I can't believe he won't be back. That I'm never going to see his face again or hear his voice.
Paul: It doesn't feel real. I keep waiting for him to walk in here. He can't be gone.
Cara: I know. It's so… empty.
(She lets the tears fall freely down her face, not bothering to appear strong for a change. Paul is crying as well, putting Cal's portrait away quickly, before his tears can ruin it.)
Paul: He was the first person who cared about me in this world. He was family.
Cara: Yes. He was a brother to me, just… he accepted you for who you are and once he loved you, it was forever.
(She starts sobbing and Paul motions for her to come to him. When she does, he folds his arms around her. And the camera slowly backs away and out of the room.)
SCENE 2
(Camera moves along the corridor and into Kayla's room. She is sitting on the floor behind her bed, out of view if someone was to come looking for her. She's wearing one of Cal's shirts, that's much too big on her, as she holds herself.)
FLASHBACK
(Cal is walking Kayla back to her room after the small bonfire in the park. They talk inaudibly until Kayla stands on the tiptoes and kisses Cal.)
(Cal and Kayla dancing at the party earlier this season. Kayla kisses him again.)
(Cal and Kayla sitting outside in the light of the stars and moon, talking about their feelings. Cal takes Kayla's hand and they decide to start a relationship.)
FLASHBACK ENDS
(Kayla uses the overlong sleeve of the shirt to wipe at her face, but the tears just continue to come. Camera pans around to show Cloe stopping in front of the open door as she hears the muffled sobs. She slowly enters.)
Cloe: Kayla?
(When Kayla doesn't answer, Cloe steps into the room further. When she recognizes where the sobs are coming from, she climbs onto the bed and places a hand on Kayla's shoulder.)
Cloe: If you want someone to talk to, I'm here.
(Kayla shakes her head.)
Cloe: That's okay too. I just don't feel good letting you sit in here alone. I didn't know Cal that well, but I know he was one of the nicest people and I can't imagine how you're feeling right now, losing him like that. Just… you're not alone. I'll just stay here for a bit, okay?
Kayla (softly): Thank you.
SCENE 3
(Cut to the café, where the rest of the Mall Rats have gathered with their stuff packed up. Jack and Darryl enter, having just come back from the warehouses and everyone looks at them expectantly.)
Jack: We can go there. We'll have to take a bit of weird route, but there is a way in that the Chosen don't know about.
Ellie: And they're okay with us staying there?
Jack: Yes, apparently Bray and Trudy have been there just the other day and the Warehouse tribe is ready for a fight.
Ryan: That's good news. We don't have any more time to loose. Now we only need to get Paul, Cara and Kayla ready and we can go there.
Lottie: I'll talk to them.
Ty: I'm coming with you.
(The two of them leave the café.)
Patsy: What about the guards?
Ruby (raises her wrist with the zapper): We'll just handle them like last time.
Jack: We should still be ready for a fight. I don't think it'll be as easy to get through the city with such a big group.
Ram: I'd say we are.
SCENE 4
(Meanwhile in the maternity shop, the little group of rebels is ready to leave their hiding place as well. They are standing around the counter, where Alpha has drawn a crude map of the city.)
Alpha: You guys have your kids to look after, so Tai-San and I will carry KC. There's no way we can get him down the sewers, so we have to take this route (points).
Bray: That's the safest route?
Alpha: With the least Chosen sightings, yes. We might have to fight a few of them.
Trudy: Fight? With the kids there?
Alpha: It's either that or risking them tracking us to the warehouses, which would be worse.
Trudy: Okay.
(They grab their stuff and Tai-San and Alpha help KC to his feet. Bray looks around the store and can't find Bray Jr.)
Bray: Hey, Brady, where's Junior?
Brady (points to the backroom): There. He's being dumb. He doesn't tell me why he's upset.
Bray (mutters): Perfect timing. (to the others) How about you go ahead and I'll catch up?
Trudy: Are you sure?
Bray: It probably won't take long and there's no reason for you to just wait around for us.
Alpha: Alright. It'll take forever to get there anyway.
(Bray watches the others leave through the window, then heads into the backroom, where Bray Jr is sitting and sulking.)
Bray: What's up, Junior? The others already left, we have to get going.
Bray Jr: No! I'm not going.
Bray: Why not?
(Bray Jr points at an air vent on ground level, and both Bray and his son crawl over.)
Bray Jr: Mummy's ring fell in.
Bray: What? How?
(He looks in and sure enough, the ring and the leather band are inside. Bray Jr's lower lip quivers as he tries to push his fingers through the vent again.)
Bray Jr: I'm sorry! I played and… It get stuck. I tried to pull it out, but… I couldn't.
Bray: Why didn't you ask me for help?
Bray Jr: I was scared you get mad.
Bray: I'm not mad, Junior. Let's just try to get it out quickly.
(Camera cuts to the next scene as Bray tries to pry the vent open.)
SCENE 5
(Camille and Jasper are standing on the stage, making sure nobody tries to pull the bodies from the crosses. Camille keeps staring straight ahead, so she doesn't have to look at her dead sister.)
Jasper: Honestly, Camille, you know, he's doing this on purpose.
Camille: Who? Does what?
Jasper: Don't play dumb. He put us on this duty on purpose, because he knows it's hurting you and he enjoys it.
Camille: The Guardian is not malevolent, Jasper.
Jasper: We're guarding dead people. The only reason we're doing this, is because he doesn't want their family and friends to give them a burial. How is that not malevolent?
Camille: It's Zoot's will.
Jasper: And you want to believe in a god or whatever, who wants something like this? Who wanted your sister dead?
Camille: It's not like that.
Jasper: Then what is it like, Camille?
Camille: I… Zoot must be obeyed.
Jasper (shakes his head): I can't do this anymore. I want you to look at Tilly over there and tell me to my face that this is what you want to support.
(She ignores him, but Jasper forcefully turns her head. Tears are forming in her eyes, when she sees Tilly.)
Jasper: Do you? Do you want to follow orders from your sister's murderer?
Camille: I have to.
Jasper: No, you don't.
(He lets go of her face, when Camille starts to cry.)
SCENE 6
(All of the Mall Rats have gathered in the entrance hall now. Most of them are carrying bags with their stuff and/or weapons. Ruby, Ram and Jack are carrying zappers again. Ram pushes the doors open and zaps the Chosen guards in a matter of seconds, then waves at the others.)
Ram: Let's go. Who knows how many of them are out in the city today.
(They follow him, but some of them are a bit hesitant like Ty and Sammy. Lottie smiles encouragingly at Sammy and takes his hand. As the Mall Rats leave, the camera stays on the unconscious guards and the now empty hospital.)
SCENE 7
(In the cinema, the Guardian is talking to some of his Chosen, among them Felix. The Guardian keeps a straight face, but there's a mad glint in his eyes and the way the corners of his mouth twitch.)
Guardian: Zoot has spoken to me tonight. He sees the offerings of yesterday as the beginning of something big. The Cleansing of Zoot! We will rid the world of unbelievers and truly ring in the Era of Zoot.
Chosen1: What does that mean?
Guardian: It means, that no one except for his Chosen is worthy of living in the Era of Zoot and to ring it in, we have to get rid of them.
Chosen1: Everyone?
Guardian: Everyone! We show no mercy, we ask no questions. Zoot must not be questioned.
(The Chosen look at each other uneasily, but no one speaks out against the Guardian.)
Guardian: Now go! We'll take this city to begin with, then we take the next and the next until only Chosen remain.
(The Chosen leave, except for Felix.)
Felix: What about the prisoners? Do we still need Amber for the exchange?
Guardian: No. You and me are going to take care of the Supreme Mother now. We'll lose the prisoners later. Follow me!
SCENE 8
(Cut to Tai-San, Alpha, KC, Trudy and Brady arriving at the warehouses. They are greeted by Ben.)
Ben: Did anybody follow you?
Alpha: No, we ran into a small patrol, but I took care of them.
Ben: And Bray?
Trudy: He'll be here soon.
KC: It would be nice to sit down. My leg is killing me.
Tai-San: Do you have plaster here? He needs a real cast for that ankle.
Ben: What happened? Maybe Paul can do something about it. This way.
(He takes over for Alpha and leads KC and Tai-San into one of the warehouses. Brady gently tugs at Trudy's hand, when they're gone.)
Brady: Why are we not home?
Trudy: It's too dangerous, honey. The Chosen are still looking for us.
Brady: I miss Sammy and Lottie and Ty and Ryan. Everyone!
Trudy: Me too, we'll see them again soon. I promise.
Brady: And why are Uncle Bray and Little Bray not here yet? He said, it wouldn't take long.
Trudy: I'm sure, they'll be here soon.
(She looks at Alpha, silently asking if he knows a reason for the delay, but Alpha just shrugs.)
Trudy: Brady, why don't you run after KC and Tai-San?
Brady: Why?
Trudy: I want to talk to Alpha for a second.
Brady: No. (clings to Trudy's leg) I don't want to go. I want to stay with you.
Trudy: Honey, it's just a second. I promise I'll be right there with you.
Brady: No!
(Trudy kneels down to be on eye level with her, not knowing what has gotten into her daughter.)
Trudy: What's wrong? The people here are all our friends.
Brady: You said Camille was our friend too and she was not.
Trudy: Yes… I was wrong about Camille, but you know KC and Tai-San. They wouldn't hurt you.
Brady: I don't want to. I want to stay with you.
Trudy: Nobody is going to take you again and I'm not going anywhere either.
Brady: Please, Mummy, I don't want to go.
(Trudy sighs and takes her hand.)
Trudy: Alright. (walks over to Alpha) I just wanted to thank you for everything you've done. You protected me several times and you helped get my daughter back. I want you to know that I appreciate it very much.
Alpha: It just happened that we had the same goal and that saving Brady was in my interest as well.
Trudy: I don't care what your motivation was, Alpha, I just… Thank you.
Alpha (nods): Okay. Just make sure you don't lose her again.
Trudy: Apparently she won't let me out of her sight anytime soon.
Alpha (awkwardly pats Brady's head): Smart girl.
(He turns around and follows the others into the warehouse.)
SCENE 9
(Cut back to Bray and Bray Jr still trying to get Amber's ring out of the vent. Bray clearly struggles with the grate.)
Bray: These used to open much easier than this. It's stuck somehow.
Bray Jr: I'm sorry, Daddy.
Bray: Move out of the way, please. I don't want to hit you in the face, when it finally comes loose.
(Bray Jr moves away and Bray makes another attempt. The grate finally budges a little. Bray takes a moment to catch his breath and readjust his grip, when he hears voices.)
Bray Jr: They are back?
Bray: Shh!
(Camera cuts to the outside of the shop, where Felix and the Guardian are standing, looking up at the broken window of the maternity shop. The Guardian is carrying two old champagne bottles.)
Guardian: This is it.
Felix: Do you think, they're still in there? Shouldn't we have brought more people?
(The Guardian pushes one of the bottles into Felix's hands and grabs a lighter from his pocket.)
Guardian: No. We'll take care of the Rat problem like this.
Felix: What about the Supreme Mother and the Divine Child?
Guardian: Zoot wants to be reunited with them. It's part of the new Era of Zoot.
(Cut to the inside of the shop, where Bray has slowly inched closer to the window, holding Bray Jr close to him.)
Bray (whispers): You have to be quiet, Junior. It's bad people out there.
(Cut back to Felix and the Guardian.)
Felix: Do you really want to kill them? Isn't that damaging to the cause?
Guardian: Are you questioning me, Felix? I know best what's good for the cause and how to please the Great One. Now fire this up and throw it through the window up there.
(He clicks the lighter and sets fire to the rag, hanging out of Felix's bottle, which leaves him no choice but to throw it. We hear it breaking and then flames are billowing out of the window. Laughing, the Guardian lights and throws his bottle as well, watching as the fire quickly grows.)
SCENE 10
(Meanwhile Camille is walking towards the storage room. There are no guards posted in front of the bolted door anymore and she can quickly slip in. Amber and Cloud look up in alarm, when they see her and only relax a little bit, when they see she's alone. Camille rushes to Cloud's side, tears forming in her eyes again.)
Camille: Cloud, I'm so sorry. I didn't think it would be like this. I shouldn't… I… I betrayed you and now… Tilly is dead and it's all my fault.
Cloud: Tilly got herself killed, Camille.
Camille (shakes her head): No, no… If I hadn't supported the G-guardian, he wouldn't… a lot of people just followed him, because I believed in him. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
(She fumbles with his cuffs and manages to unlock them with her shaky fingers. Cloud rubs his wrists, that are already sore from the cuffs. Camille takes his hands as she cries.)
Camille: Please, Cloud… I need you now. You… I know you can do it. You can stop him.
Cloud: That won't bring your sister back.
Camille: No, I know, but… she would've wanted that. She loved you so much.
(Cloud sighs, pulls his hands back, then grabs Camille's head and slams it against the shelf. Amber gasps and looks shocked at the now unconscious girl.)
Cloud: What? Did you want to hear more of that pathetic crying? Camille's always been like this, only now is the first time it came to bite her in the ass.
Amber: She just lost her sister, Cloud.
Cloud: Yes, which is the only reason, she came to her senses. That and Jasper probably.
(Cloud slowly gets to his feet and scans the room. He kneels next to Camille and grabs the key from her, then undoes Amber's cuffs. She rubs her wrist as well and quickly gets to her feet.)
Cloud: You could try to just make a run for it, but I don't know how many Chosen are out there.
Amber: I'm not leaving without Gel and Lex.
Cloud: Alright, I'm going to find Jaffa.
Amber: Alone? You can't fight them all and he won't be alone.
Cloud: After what he's done to my home and my tribe, I will find him and I will kill him.
(Amber shakes her head, but doesn't argue with him, knowing she'll need him to get to her friends and escape. As they leave the storage room, the camera goes back to Camille, before cutting to the next scene.)
SCENE 11
(The Mall Rats are moving quickly through the city. Since they're such a big group, they can't make it far without being seen and it quickly becomes clear to them that something is going on in the city, when they encounter more and more Chosen fighting.)
Ellie (cradling Wylla to her chest): What's going on? Something must've happened.
Ram: Don't know, don't care. We only need to get to the warehouses, we can worry about this later.
(While running he raises his hand to zap two Chosen, who've noticed them and run towards them. He hits one, but misses the other, who quickly gets closer. He's about to swing his spear at Ram, when he gets zapped by Ruby and falls.)
Ram: Nice shot!
Ruby: Told you, I'm better than you.
Ram: That was pure luck.
(Sammy catches up to them. He's white as a sheet, the fear clearly written all over his face, but he manages to keep it together.)
Sammy: How far is it?
Ram: Not much.
Ruby: You can stick with me, Sammy. They won't get to you, I swear.
Sammy: Thanks.
(The camera stays put as the Mall Rats run past and disappear around the corner.)
SCENE 12
(Cut to the outside of the maternity shop that is engulfed in flames now. Cut to the inside, where Bray and Bray Jr are lying low on the floor. Bray Jr is crying, while Bray holds his shirt up to his face and tries to do the same for his son. He scans the shop but can't fight any way out except for the window, where the strongest flames burn. Bray Jr coughs next to him.)
Bray Jr: Daddy! It is hot. I want out.
Bray: Shh, baby, it'll be fine. I'll get you out.
(The sweat drips from his face and he shuffles away from one of the rags that's just caught fire as well. It gets harder to see as the smoke becomes thicker. Bray Jr coughs more, his eyes starting to droop, but Bray doesn't notice as he's too busy trying not to burn alive. His eyes water from the smoke until all he can see is black and orange. Exhaustedly his eyes fall shut and the screen goes black.)
SCENE 13
(Amber and Cloud are hiding in a janitor's closet. Cloud is spying on the Chosen through the slightly open door.)
Cloud: There's not many of them here.
Amber: What were those two girls talking about? Era of Zoot.
Cloud: And they mentioned a cleansing. Doesn't sound too good to me. That's probably where everyone is at.
Amber: Do you think the Guardian will be here?
Cloud: If he's not now, he'll come back. I have time.
Amber: I don't. Tilly said, Lex was in one of the projection rooms. How do I get there?
Cloud: You turn left at the end of the corridor and take the stairs, then go through the door that blends into the wall. The corridor behind is long and full of small rooms like this one. Some of them are projection rooms. I guess, you'll just have to test your luck.
Amber: It would be easier, if you came with me.
Cloud: It would, but I have other things to do. Just don't get captured again.
(He turns back to the door and makes sure nobody is around, then opens it.)
Cloud: Go now! Be quick!
(Amber slips through the door and Cloud closes it behind her, then she runs for the stairs he just mentioned.)
SCENE 14
(Cut to the Mall Rats arriving at the warehouses. Most of the warehouse tribe is out in the court, preparing for a battle, among them are Alpha, Tai-San, Trudy and Brady. Brady runs towards her friends, when she spots them. Ty picks her up effortlessly and hugs her, Sammy and Lottie join in on the hug. Trudy follows Brady a little slower, when she reaches her friends, Ryan scoops her into a bear-hug.)
Ryan: Thank God, you're okay. Brady too.
Trudy: It's so good to see you.
Ellie (hugs Trudy): You too.
Trudy (looks at Wylla): She's so big already. I feel like I've been gone for months.
Ellie: I know, she grows so fast.
(Tai-San has come closer as well, but she keeps her distance until Cloe walks up to her and hugs her.)
Cloe: I'm glad you're here and you got away from the Chosen. It must've been hard.
Tai-San: Thank you.
Cloe: They used your amnesia. It wasn't right.
Tai-San: I still can't remember.
Cloe: You don't have to. You're here now, that's all that matters.
(Darryl and Kayla step forward, scanning the crowd.)
Kayla: Where's KC?
Darryl: And Bray?
Trudy: KC is inside, but Bray… He wanted to be here by now.
Jack: He's not here?
Trudy: No. Junior was being difficult, when we wanted to leave the shop, so he stayed behind. He said, he'd catch up, but…
Jack: How long ago was that?
Trudy: I don't know.
Alpha: About an hour. Something must've happened to delay him this much.
Tai-San: We're about to go out and fight the Chosen. We can try and find him.
Cloe: The Chosen have gone completely mad. They're attacking everyone. They might've gotten Bray.
(The reunion is cut short by the worry about Bray. The two tribes huddle together to make a plan of action as the camera pans out.)
SCENE 15
(Camera cuts to Amber sneaking through the cinema until she arrives at the projection rooms. Nobody is around, but it's too many to check. With no other option, Amber starts anyway. She quickly realizes that most of these doors are locked.)
Amber: Lex! Lex, can you hear me?
(There's no response. She continues to check the doors and say his name, hoping she's loud enough for him to hear, but not loud enough for any of the Chosen to hear her.)
Amber: Lex!
(She turns the handle on the next door and the door swings open easily. When a foul stench hits her, she quickly covers her nose with her hand and takes a step back. The room is dark, but we can see a silhouette of a man hanging in the middle of the room.)
Amber: Lex? Oh my God!
SCENE 16
(The Guardian walks through the doors of the cinema and stops the first Chosen, he meets.)
Guardian: I want the Mall Rats dead. Send someone up to the hospital immediately.
Chosen1: Of course, Guardian. Zoot be praised.
(He nods and continued down the corridor to the storage room. He frowns, when he sees the open door. Inside he only finds Camille, slowly coming to again. With an angry grunt, he grabs her by the neck and pulls her up.)
Guardian: What have you done, girl?
Camille: G-guardian…
Guardian: Why did you do it? Where are they now?
Camille: I d-didn't, I swear. They attacked me, must h-have gotten out.
Guardian: You don't say. Zoot will not be pleased.
Camille: Guardian, I'm s-s-sorry.
Guardian: This just shows me that you're not fit to live in the Era of Zoot. Only his devoted followers are going to witness it.
Camille: No, Guardian, no… I… I believe.
Guardian: You're weak, Camille. That's why it was so easy to get you to trust me. To get you to follow my orders. It truly is thanks to you, that I was able to raise the Chosen a second time. Thank you, Camille. For all your hard work, I'll reward you by uniting you with the Mighty Zoot in the Great Hereafter.
(He drags her along as he leaves the storage room.)
SCENE 17
(Cut to Darryl and Kayla hugging KC, who's sitting on a bed, resting his ankle that is now in a solid cast. Darryl pulls away first.)
Darryl: It's good to see you, but we'll have to leave again right away. We're going to the cinema and getting Gel.
KC: Of course. I wish I could come with you. I want to kick some Chosen ass.
Darryl: I think you already did plenty of that.
KC: You can never kick them hard enough.
Darryl: Alright, I'll take over for you. I just wanted to see, you were fine.
(They bump fists and Darryl leaves. KC examines Kayla, the red eyes, Cal's shirt and her empty stare. He pulls her into a hug and she tears up again.)
KC: I heard about Cal. I'm so sorry, Kay.
Kayla: At least you're okay.
KC: I could never leave you. We've been through too much together.
(He strokes her hair, but Kayla slowly lets go of him again. She wipes away her tears.)
Kayla. I have to go. I won't let them get away with it and they still have Gel.
KC: Take care, okay? Don't do anything stupid.
Kayla: I'm so sick of losing people. I won't lose anymore.
KC: You come back here, okay? If you don't come back, I'll come and find you and it won't be pretty.
Kayla: Okay.
(She follows Darryl out. KC looks after her with a worried expression.)
SCENE 18
(The camera follows Cloud's point of view as the Guardian marches Camille past the janitor closet, he's hiding in. Quietly he follows them until they reach the roof. He watches as the Guardian drags Camille to the edge and then shrinks back, when the door opens again and Jasper runs to the roof. Jasper spots him, but doesn't say anything as he approaches the Guardian.)
Jasper: Let her go, Jaffa.
Guardian: Don't speak to me like that.
Jasper: I speak to you however I want. You let her go and I won't hurt you.
Guardian: You? Hurt me? That's ridiculous.
(The Guardian now also spots Cloud, who's standing a few steps behind Jasper.)
Guardian: Oh, I see. I wondered where you had gotten too, Cloud. You never liked me much, did you?
Cloud: Not especially. I should never have let you stay.
Guardian: Well, that's in the past and these days you don't make the decisions anymore. Are you really going to plead for her life as well? I mean, she betrayed you just like Tilly did. Actually, just like your whole tribe did.
Cloud: I don't care about them. I care about what you did.
(The Guardian pushes Camille onto the edge, the only thing keeping her from falling is his grip on her. She cries quietly.)
Camille: Please… please don't.
Guardian: I already explained to you that this is a gift. Not everyone gets to be with the Mighty Zoot, but you… he specifically requested your presence, Camille.
Jasper: Shut up with all that bullshit. She doesn't believe in it anymore.
Guardian: Are you sure? Camille, have you deserted the Faith?
Camille: No, Guardian. I'm a devoted believer, I will partake in the Cleansing. I will be worthy of living in the Era of Zoot.
Jasper: Camille, don't! He doesn't care what you say.
Guardian: Zoot will be pleased to hear that.
(He smiles, then lets go of her and Camille falls to her death.)
Jasper: No!
SCENE 19
(Camera cuts to Amber still staring into the dark room. She keeps her hand pressed against her nose as she enters. Lex looks even worse than we've seen him before. He is sickly thin, covered in fading bruises and dried blood. Some of his cuts are red and inflamed. When Amber reaches out to touch his face, his eyes flutter open.)
Amber (gasps): Lex! You're still alive.
Lex: Amber?
(She nods, then scans the room for anything she can cut his restraints with. She finds a discarded hunting knife along with some pliers and other torture instruments in one corner. Lex flinches, when he sees the knife. She uses it to cut the ties and grabs Lex, before he can fall to the floor.)
Amber: It's alright now. I just have to find Gel and then we're getting you out of here.
Lex: No.
Amber: It won't take long. She's got to be here somewhere.
(Slowly he raises his arm and points to the spot of dried blood in the corner. Amber sets him down gently and inspects it, she pries the glittery eyepatch off the sticks floor.)
Lex: She's dead.
Amber: Not her too.
(She slips the eyepatch into her pocket, then helps Lex to his feet.)
Amber: Can you walk?
Lex: Dunno.
(She almost drags him to the door and into the corridor. Lex blinks at the brightness and Amber tries to keep a straight face as she gets a clear picture of what he must've been through.)
SCENE 20
(The Mall Rats are in the streets now. Even Sammy has come along to fight the Chosen. They run into a big group of Chosen at the market place and the fighting begins. Ruby, Ram and Jack are standing a bit to the side, trying to hit everyone with their zappers before they get to close, but eventually it's too many people and they don't want to hit any of their friends. Alpha is showing off his incredible combat skills again and taking on three Chosen at once. Camera zooms in on Ryan and Tai-San, who are fighting side by side.)
Ryan: We have to get to the cinema and get the others out. You know that place better than any of us.
Tai-San (nods): Alright. If you see an opening, I will be right behind you.
(Ryan's fist connects with a Chosen girl's nose, making a crunching noise, but this gives them a chance to get out of the fight. Darryl and Jack join them.)
Darryl: Are you going to the cinema? We're in.
Ryan: Alright let's go.
(Some of the Chosen follow them as they run away, but Jack quickly takes care of them with his zapper. His aim is still a bit off, but he's improved a lot.)
SCENE 21
(Back in the warehouses, Ellie and Trudy are walking through the court yard together. Ellie carries Wylla on her back in a basket, she's sleeping, while Brady is running around them, always making sure to keep in sight of Trudy.)
Trudy: This is wonderful. I haven't been outside in a long time.
Ellie: Well, wonderful still isn't the word I'd use.
Trudy: You know what I mean.
Ellie: I just hope, they all come back in one piece. I thought, I'd be happier to stay behind and know Wylla is safe, but… I don't know if I can actually do this.
Trudy: You worry about someone either way. To be honest, the only reason I'm not fighting is Brady. She won't let me go anywhere without her. I hope that will stop soon.
Ellie: You can't blame her.
Trudy: No, of course not.
Ellie: I bet Ryan is going to follow you around like a puppy as well. He missed you so much.
Trudy: He did?
Ellie: I caught him several times just hanging around in your room. He was really worried about you both.
Trudy (blushes): He's such a sweetheart.
Ellie: He is. And he does care about you a lot.
Trudy: I know.
Ellie: No, I mean… I think he might have feelings for you.
Trudy: Oh, I… I don't know what to say.
Ellie: Maybe you should think about it. If you don't feel the same way, you should at least figure out how to let him down gently.
(Trudy nods, her cheeks an even darker shade of red now.)
SCENE 22
(Back in the marketplace, Cara is ferociously fighting a male Chosen, almost twice as tall as her. All her anger and sorrow are going into her fight and she does a bunch of damage to him, but she is losing her overview and he ends up backing her into a wall. She looks about like a caged animal, ready to attack even if that means, he'll be able to use his knife on her. That is when he's hit over the head with a metal pole. It doesn't knock him out, but takes his attention away from Cara long enough to let her slip by him.)
Kayla: Are you alright?
Cara: Fine! This one is mine!
Kayla: Okay, I'll be here if you need backup.
(Kayla steps back, letting Cara finish her fight with the guy. Cara is not strong, but she's small and fast and she manages to kick and hit him in a few sensitive spots, bringing him to his knees. She grabs Kayla's metal pole and hits him repeatedly in the face with it, until he falls and doesn't come back up. Cara stands over him, panting heavily. Kayla gently pries the pole from her hands.)
Kayla: Do you feel better now?
Cara: No.
Kayla: Me neither.
Cara: Thanks for helping me out.
Kayla: Of course. Come on, there are plenty more of them.
(The two girls stick together as they look for new opponents.)
SCENE 23
(On the roof of the cinema, Jasper is kneeling at the edge, staring down at Camille's body. When the Guardian tries to grab him, Cloud pushes him away.)
Cloud: Leave him alone.
Guardian: So now you're willing to defend your people?
Cloud: Nothing I could've said or done would've prevented you from throwing her off the roof. You get a kick out of killing them.
Guardian: Nothing I do is for my own pleasure. Everything I do is the will of Zoot.
Cloud: Zoot is a dead man. Died years ago. Pretty unceremoniously as well. I don't get why you're so fascinated by that guy.
Guardian: Says the guy who speaks to the stars.
(Cloud punches the Guardian. None of them are good fighters and it makes for a pretty clumsy fight. Jasper isn't really paying attention to them, still mourning his girlfriend. Cloud manages to kick the Guardian in the groin, making him double over. Cloud grins, already thinking he has the upper hand, but the Guardian quickly gets it together again and charges him. Jasper gets to his feet, when he sees both of them wrestling on the edge of the roof.)
Jasper: Stop it! You're going to fall!
(They don't listen to him. With all of his strength Cloud pushes the Guardian over the edge, but he doesn't fall as easily as Camille. He's still gripping Cloud's arms and pulls him down with him. Jasper watches in shock as the two of them hit the ground only a few feet away from Camille. The camera zooms in on them as a blood trickles out of the Guardian's ears and nose.)
SCENE 24
(Meanwhile Jack, Ryan, Darryl and Tai-San have arrived at the cinema. They reach the entrance just as Amber drags Lex out. She's breathing heavily and sweaty from carrying Lex so much.)
Jack: Amber! You're free!
(At the mention of her name she looks up. Relief washes over her, when she sees her friends. Ryan quickly grabs hold of Lex, making a face at the smell.)
Ryan: What happened to you?
Tai-San: Gel said, they were starving you.
Amber: We have to get him to the hospital now.
Jack: The warehouses. We relocated.
Amber: Alright, the warehouses then.
Darryl: Where's Gel? We need to get Gel too.
(Amber sighs and pulls the eyepatch out of her pocket. She presses it into Darryl's hand, squeezing it.)
Amber: I'm sorry, Darryl.
Darryl: No! She can't be! I know she's not… she's not!
Lex: Saw it happen.
(Jack puts a hand on Darryl's shoulder, but he shrugs it off.)
Jack: Come on, Darryl.
Darryl: No!
Amber: I'm sorry, but she's gone.
(The others start to walk away slowly, while Darryl stares first at the cinema then at the eyepatch in his hand. He picks at the dried blood. A tear falls onto the eye patch right before he closes his hand over it again.)
