The night passed slowly for the two adults, neither able to close their eyes for even a second with all the night time noises. The sound of an owl outside their bedroom window being the least stressful noise. Every creek or shuffle in the old house put the pair on edge and instead of thinking rationally. It was Dan's bed moving while he slept. They panicked. The feral child had attacked their son and was dragging away their baby.

True the couple didn't go to check, both far too panicked thinking that the boy would attack them. But still they stared up at the dark ceiling and prayed that the boy would sleep through the night.

"Shin" a hushed whisper rang through the dark room catching the petrified husband off guard.

"Miyoko, what do you want?"

"Should we tell Shiori that we've found her son?"

"Are we sure it's him?"

"How many boys howl at the moon?"

"But Shun's supposed to be dead"

"I don't know many boys who growl hiss and freak out at everyday objects. Not to mention can get the wolf of the woods to answer them"

"Alright, fair enough, but still I wouldn't want to get her hopes up"

"We could do a DNA test."

"Yes, a boy who attacks at water is really going to let you put something in his mouth or stab him with a needle"

"We could try it, who knows maybe Dan could convince him not to attack the doctor."

"What makes you think Dan could do anything?"

"Well Sa-Shun does seem quite taken with our son"

"How do we know he's not just tricking us so he can take us back to the woods and have that wolf rip our guts out."

"Shin, I think you're going a bit overboard now" Miyoko told the dark void by her side. Yes she was worried, what mother wouldn't be. But she couldn't forget the innocence she'd seen in Shun. She couldn't forget how mesmerised he was by bubbles. The way he stared at simple things in amazement. How cars scared him and that he couldn't figure out how to unclip himself from the seat belt. She just couldn't think of that boy and see murdering wolf just innocent baby.

Well, maybe not a baby but close to that. He certainly had a baby's mentality.

"Me going overboard?" He asked aghast, pushing himself up onto his elbows to look at the shadow that was his wife. "I think you're forgetting he was raised by a wolf"

"And you're forgetting, just like I did, that he'd never hurt Dan. He lashed out earlier because he was scared. He's a good kid, he saved Dan's life."

"Just so his father could take it later."

"Shin!" She shouted as she slapped his chest.

"It's true Miyoko" he defended, rubbing at his chest.

"It might be true, but I don't think it is."

"Why're you so sure?"

"Honestly, I don't know, I just don't believe that innocence could be an act. He's a child. He couldn't be anything bad. That's like saying Dan's capable of being malicious."

"Don't underestimate our son dear"

"Shin, I would never do that. But honestly you're not aiming high are you? A murderer? I think Dan could do better"

"Maybe, we'll never know. As long as Dan's still Dan then I doubt he'll stop messing around and keep getting levels far below what he should be getting. Honestly that boy just doesn't know when to apply himself

"Maybe Shun could be a good influence" she suggested, ignoring the character change, she could use it to her advantage

"When did a murdering wolf boy is in play we shouldn't say 'good influence'?" Shun suggested

"No, Shin, I've already told you he isn't a murderer and we'll talk to Shiori tomorrow about him."

"I don't know how you can be so sure. Cause I for one don't see how you can considering we know next to nothing about him"

"We know enough. We panicked when we first found out. He's the son of a wolf. And instead of being elated that our friends' prayers weren't in vain we panicked because he was raised by a wolf."

"I think that's an appropriate reaction Mi"

"Maybe, but we shouldn't have expected him to be violent just because we found out who his father is. We know what the boy is like. He's a sweetheart"

"Don't call that animal Shun's father. And who knows what that beast's called Shay's son? I bet Shun's killed other animals, I bet he's been forced to eat them too."

"Shin, we eat animals. And if a man, wolf, can raise a boy as polite as Sa-Shun then I don't think we have the right to call him a beast" Miyoko chastised, her voice leaving her husband no room to argue.

"Bu-bu-Mi-fine" he finally agreed, even in the dark he could feel his wife's glare.

"Good, now, I think sleep's in order. God knows how tired we're in the morning"

"Alright, but if Dan's dead in the morning expect an 'I told you so'"

"And if that were to happen you wouldn't get the chance because we'd be too busy killing whoever killed our son" Miyoko answered simply as she settled down, turning onto her side to curl up and sleep.

"Goodnight Miyoko"

"Night Shin"

Wrapping his arm around her waist he pulled her to his chest breathing a contented sigh as the two slipped into sleep.

"Oh my God I'm tired!" Shun's eyes snapped open at the loud complaint, his body snapping up and wide amber eyes fixed on the waking brunette.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?!" He shouted, this was not how he woke up.

"Ah!" Dan screamed as he jumped from his bed, landing with surprising ease for such an abrupt awakening.

"That is not how you wake someone up in the morning!" Shun continued, he was used to being woken by his father's nose tickling his face as the old man tried to shift his position. Definitely not someone screaming.

"Sam what the hell's wrong?!" Dan shouted back, trying to raise his voice over the irate wolf's child.

"What's wrong? My father wakes me up by tickling my face. You wake me up by screaming to the point that my eardrums burst" he accentuated the 'you' by pointing accusingly at Dan, ensuring the boy knew he was pissed.

"What're you mad at me for?" Dan asked, completely bemused. The language barrier was a real pain right about now.

"You screamed and woke me up!" Shun screamed back, not letting up any. No matter how confused Dan was, how big the language barrier was he wasn't quietening his voice a single fraction.

Miyoko and Shinjiro burst into the room panicked.

"What the hell's going on?" Shinjiro asked, his eyes wide staring at the irate wolf boy and his more than puzzled son.

"I don't know, Sam just screamed at me."

"What was happening?" Miyoko asked, pulling her fingers from her ears for a split second to see if they'd stopped ringing.

"I don't know, I woke up and he screamed at me." Dan insisted, holding his hands up.

"Liar, you screamed first. You woke me up, that is not how my father wakes me up!" Shun answered, finally lowering his tone to a more appropriate level, pushing himself onto his feet to stand over the brunette.

"Ok it was my fault" Dan answered quickly sounding a little panicked. He was sure he'd irritated the boy off. Who else could have?

Shun closed his mouth and gave a curt nod before seating himself on his bed. Only just realising that it sunk beneath his weight. With a moment of deathly stillness he jumped from his bed latching onto Miyoko as he stared at the mattress.

"What the hell is that thing?! My bed doesn't move!" He cried as he hid behind her leg, holding onto her baggy pink shirt with both hands, his fingers tangled in the fabric.

"Sh-Sam, it's alright, it's not going to hurt you" she soothed, knowing that he was frightened of the futon.

"How do you know that? You can't be sure. That thing sunk. My bed's hard. It only sinks when it rains!" He answered in a panic, just when he was getting comfortable the beds had to move.

"Shh calm down, it's alright. I promise" she stroked the top of his head, mindful that his claws were breaking through the fabric of her shirt.

"You promise on Dan's life, whatever happens you promise I'll be fine" he stared up into her warm eyes his own amber ones shining with fear.

"I promise you" she whispered, guessing he was asking that. Nodding at her answer he loosened his grip on her clothing stepping back and staring at the ten large holes in the side of her pink shirt.

"Sorry"

"I'm going to need a new shirt. Anyway, Dan get dressed Sh-Sam isn't going to school with you today. We need him to meet someone."

"Who?"

"You'll find out later. Just get dressed. Sam come with me" holding her hand out Shun took it in his grasp, minding his nails more this time.

"But mum-"

"No buts Dan, he needs to meet someone. We'll see if he can come tomorrow"

"Can you at least tell me who you're meeting? I don't want someone to be horrible to him because he can't speak English"

"Don't worry Dan, he'll be fine, the person he's meeting knows he can't speak English"

"Oh" he answered, not having anything else to say, his argument was gone by that simple sentence. He had hoped to be able to convince his mother that he could have the day off to watch over Sam.

"Yes, oh, now get dressed Dan, Shin you know who we're having over, go call them. But make sure just to tell them to come over for a drink. See if her husband can come over too."

"Of course dear" kissing her cheek briefly Shinjiro left the room as happy as usual. Leaving Miyoko with two boys from different worlds. But both with disgusted looks on their faces.

"Eww"

"Err"

"Oh please, don't tell me you're both so immature that a kiss disgusts you?" She asked sighing. The complete lack of face change answering that. "I guess so" turning she left the room guiding Shun out too. "Dan get dressed, I'll be in in five minutes. Don't even think of going back to bed"

As she took the boy to the bathroom to sort out his hair she heard a very distinctive:

"But mum"

Sitting inside the bathroom Miyoko was crouched in front of Shun, the boy sitting on the toilet lid his hair let loose. Holding onto his face to stop him shaking his head she ran the comb through the ebony strands.

"Listen Sam, I know something about you Dan doesn't" she started, gaining the boy's full attention. "I don't want you to hurt my son alright Sam, so I'm not going to tell him this until there's no doubt who you are."

"What're you talking about? What do you know? Why would I hurt Dan?" Shun asked as he stared the woman dead in the eye, feeling slightly worried.

"Shh Sam, listen, I heard you last night" Shun froze at that, his eyes going wide as realisation hit

"You heard me howl to my dad?"

"I know you're Shun"
