Chapter 26
Paul was sitting on the stairs while Evie sat next Gina. He watched Evie answer Gina's question. Seth sat next to Gina holding her hand with a big smile. Everyone was a bit surprised how well Gina took the news. Sam was leaning against the doorframe nodding his head at something Emily said.
The howl interrupted their talk had the guys kissed their woman goodbye. Paul didn't care if Evie was pissed at him. He walked across the living room and pulled into his arms. She looked up at him as he leaned down and kissed her. They still had a lot to discuss but it would have to wait till later.
"I'll stay here," Leah offered. Embry kissed her knowing she really wanted to go but was willing to stay.
"Give us ten minutes before phasing in for an update," Jacob called over his shoulder. He kissed Bella and headed outside.
Gina held on to Seth. She didn't know what was happening but she knew it wasn't good. She looked around and held Seth tighter. The look on everyone's face scared her.
"It's okay," Seth whispered. "I'll be back before you know it." He kissed her forehead before taking off after the others.
Evie held Gina as she began to shake. Emily helped Evie console Gina as best as they could. It wasn't easy in the beginning to let their boyfriend do his jobs. All you wanted to do was hold on and keep them close.
"Do you think it has anything to do with the rouge vampire?" Bella asked no one in particular.
"I'll find out in a few minutes," Leah commented as she began to pace. She knew Embry was strong and could take care of himself but it did nothing to ease her concern.
"How do you do this?" Gina asked. "How do you stay calm knowing what they have to do to protect us?" She looked around.
"It's not always easy," Emily said in a soothing voice. "But they have each other and we have one another for support."
"They may act like a bunch of overgrown teenagers," Leah said. She was leaning against the couch. "But they, we are good at what we do." She was proud of the way the Pack handled themselves.
Bella's phone rang but when she looked at the caller ID she frowned. "It's Alice," she said confused. "Hello." She had no idea why Alice would call her at this time of the night.
"Bella," Alice sighed heavily. "Thank goodness you're okay. We were finishing up here at the house when we heard the howling." She gestured to Esme everything was fine. Carlisle was talking to Jasper and Emmett. They had just returned from hunting.
"I'm fine along with everyone else," Bella stated looking a bit confused. Leah took a seat next to her.
"Jasper and Emmett returned from hunting when they noticed purple smoke in the distance. It was coming from La Push," Alice informed her.
Leah jumped up and headed outside. She didn't smell anything. She ran for the trees to phase.
"Some of the Pack left a few minutes ago," Bella said moving over to sit next to Evie. "I'm sure they are investigating it." Evie grabbed her hand.
"You're more than welcome to stay here until everything is resolved. You know you're safe with us," Alice offered. "Everyone would love to see you." She turned away from Rosalie who was glaring at her.
"Thank you but I'm safe here," Bella answered a bit irritated. She didn't like the underlying insinuation Alice implied toward Jacob and the Pack. They were more than capable of keeping her and everyone safe.
"I wasn't trying to imply anything," Alice quickly replied.
"Yes, you were," Bella responded with a sigh. "Thanks for calling. Bye." She didn't bother to wait for Alice's goodbye. She hung up the phone and placed it on the coffee table.
Leah walked back into the house. "The one arm leech was burned on the rocks near the cliffs by Ozettte Lake," she said taking a seat. "They weren't able to pick up any other scents. Sam and Jacob were trying to figure how someone was able to get the leech out on the rocks without leaving a scent. But the tide was moving in too fast. There won't be much left to search." She could see the worry in Gina's eyes.
"This is the worst part," Evie quietly said as she shifted further back on the couch. "Waiting for them to come back and trying not to imagine the worst." She looked at Leah. "They'll be back soon." Even though they were concerned for all the wolves, it seemed Leah and her were in a little group. They each had a brother and a boyfriend out there protecting them.
Leah gave her a small smile. "I don't know what's worse," she began to twist her fingers. "Not knowing what's going on or being there, waiting for something to happen." Bella reached for Leah's hand.
"Welcome to our little world," Bella sadly said. She leaned her head on Leah's shoulder. "It sucks."
"It sure the hell does," Leah remarked. She leaned her head on Bella's.
The four of them sat back and leaned on each other. The silence that followed started off peaceful as they were all lost in their own thoughts. But eventually the silence turned uncomfortable.
"Why don't we change and watch a movie?" Gina suggested. She stood up and wiped her eyes. "It might take our minds off the guys until they return." She grabbed her bag by the door.
"The bathroom is the second door on the right," Bella pointed out.
"Sounds like a good idea," Emily replied. "I'll grab us some drinks." She went off to the kitchen.
"I'll make us some snacks," Bella said. She looked at Evie. "I know what you're thinking." She gave her a quick hug before joining Emily in the kitchen.
"I'll pick a movie," Leah said. She walked over to the TV and began to look through the pile of movies.
Evie nodded as she headed upstairs. The pictures along the walls made her smile. There were pictures of her and Paul smiling and laughing. She stopped at the picture of Paul and Jacob with her boys. Of course Paul and Jacob stuck out, being a bit taller and darker. But they were all her family.
She walked into their room and inhaled deeply. His scent always calmed and excited her. Of course the bed wasn't made, she thought with a smile. She quickly made the bed and grabbed his black wife beater. She could feel herself blushing at the memory of their heated love making session the day before.
She changed and left the room. The sound of laughter had her confused. When she was half way down the stairs she started to laugh too. Leah had chocolate syrup all over her face. It was running down the front of her shirt.
"Looks like I missed the fun," Evie laughed. She ignored the glaring look from Leah. "There are towels in the cabinet by the shower." She walked around her still laughing.
"Do you think she'll forgive me?" Gina asked scared.
Emily gave Gina a comforting pat on the shoulder. "Sometimes Leah's bark is worse than her bite," she said.
"Not all the time," Leah called out from upstairs.
Evie walked into the kitchen and grabbed some napkins. "Thanks Gina," she said walking back into the living room. "We needed that laugh. Unfortunately it was at Leah's expense but she'll survive." They cleaned up the syrup on the coffee table.
"I have to ask," Gina said looking at Evie. "How does your imprint work?" She sat on the couch with a small bowl of popcorn.
"I kind of wondered about that myself," Emily said sitting next to Gina.
"There's a connection between us," Evie began. She plopped down on the other couch. "I feel the attraction to Paul. I mean look at him, the guy is beyond good looking and don't even get me started on his body." She gave a little shiver just thinking about him.
Gina looked confused. She was trying to figure it out but imprinting didn't seem to fit Evie and Paul.
"It more of a choice for Evie to be with him where he feels the imprint to her," Bella explained.
"Actually, we feel the imprint but it's not as strong as your guys," Evie gestured to Gina and Emily. "Our connection is something no one has ever seen and I'm glad. We fell in love on our own. But imprinting definitely brought us together. For someone like Paul our unconventional imprinting works better for us." She grabbed a soda and sat back on the couch.
"Why do you say that?" Gina asked. She poured some M&M's over her popcorn.
"Paul is a hot head with a bad temper and anger issues," Leah listed off each one on her fingers. "As you saw earlier at the party," she shrugged when Evie glared at her.
"The wolves are territorial by nature," Emily pointed out. "But they are also very loyal to each other." She grabbed a handful of popcorn and M&M's.
"But not all relationships require an imprint," Bella stressed looking at Leah.
"Oh yeah," Emily exclaimed. "How is it working out for you and Embry?"
Leah tried to hide her smile but it didn't work. "Everything's great," she finally answered with a little laugh. "Especially after our talk with Billy and Jacob, they explained why I wouldn't imprint and neither would Embry since I chose him." Emily and Gina looked confused.
"Since Jacob will be Alpha and Chief," Bella began to explain. "He won't imprint. He gets to choose who he wants and the same goes for Leah. She is an Alpha and Chief in her own right. Being the only female gives her the same rights as Jacob." She smiled at Leah.
"Since Leah chose to be with Embry," Gina said looking around.
"He won't imprint?" Emily asked. She had no idea any of this was happening.
"No, he won't," Leah answered. "When we started seeing each other it didn't cross our minds but of course I had that fear in the back of my mind." She grabbed a soda. "Embry knows me so well; he was the one who talked to Jacob about my fear of imprinting." She took a drink.
"Little did Leah know," Bella smiled. "Billy and Jacob were planning on talking to Leah and Embry." She laughed when Leah threw some popcorn at her.
"We all know how patient Leah can be," Evie laughed. She caught the popcorn Leah threw at her with her mouth.
"I can attest to that," Emily laughed. "There are so many stories from our childhood." She continued to laugh as Leah gave her a dirty look.
"I have stories too," Leah pointed out with a smirk. She stood up and grabbed a movie. "I'll put the movie in before we start to embarrass each other." She looked at Emily.
"Why do I get the feeling the stories would be more entertaining than the movie?" Bella asked getting up. She was carrying two empty bowls to the kitchen.
"I agree," Evie commented. "But we can save those stories for another time." She patted Emily's hand.
Bella came back carrying the bowls full of popcorn. She had one drizzled with caramel syrup and the other one drizzled with chocolate. Everyone sat back as the move started.
It didn't take long before everyone became engrossed in the movie. It helped take their minds off the guys even when the movie ended and they started another one, they didn't talk.
Gina fell asleep soon after the second movie started. The only sound was from the movie and it helped ease them a little. They knew the guys would be back soon. It was almost like they could feel it.
It was well after two in the morning when the second movie ended. Emily and Evie sat up knowing the guys were close. Bella and Leah stood up and headed towards the back door. Seth was a few feet away when Leah opened the door. She moved aside knowing he needed to see Gina.
Seth found Gina asleep on the couch. He immediately lay down next to her. He wrapped his arms around her and inhaled her sweet scent. The thought of not knowing who killed the leech had them all on high alert. He moved a strand of her hair to see her face better. She was so beautiful.
Embry pulled Leah into a tight hug. They both inhaled each other's scent trying to hold on to each other tighter. He buried his head in the crook of her neck and smiled. He could feel the tears she shed on his shoulder. She was finally letting her guard down for him.
Leah could feel Embry's smile on her shoulder. She wiped the tears and smiled. It finally hit her; he was hers no matter what. He was never going to leave her. They were in this together. She held him close and kissed his shoulder.
Jacob didn't have a chance to grab for Bella. She launched herself at him the moment he walked through the door. She whispered in his ear, how much she loved him. They stayed locked around one another not willing to let go.
Sam walked into the living room with a stoic expression. He took Emily into his arms and held her close. She didn't move until he pulled away and kissed her scars. He hugged her again telling her they were staying the night. She nodded letting him know she understood.
Paul was the last one to walk through the door. He leaned against the door frame looking at Evie. He knew she was relieved to see him. Her heartbeat speed up but she didn't move from the couch.
"Quil and Collin are running patrol. They are sticking close to home," Sam stated. "I don't want anyone traveling further then they have to at the moment." He held Emily tightly to him. "Jared went to Kim's and Brady went home. But we are all meeting in a few hours to meet with the Cullen's. Paul has offered for everyone to stay here at his and Evie's house." He looked at Paul who nodded.
"There are two guest rooms upstairs," Evie said standing up.
Leah didn't feel comfortable leaving Seth and Gina alone. She pulled a reluctant Embry over to the other couch. Embry stopped and hugged Evie. She sighed as she hugged him back. They seemed to be thinking the same thing. They were worried about one another. He kissed her forehead before joining Leah.
Bella grabbed Jacob's hand and pulled him upstairs. She hugged Evie before continuing up stairs. Jacob wrapped his arms around Bella as they made their way to the guest room. They both collapsed on the bed.
Emily and Sam took the other guest room. He began to explain everything to her. It wasn't the best talk they had.
Evie picked up the bowls and empty cans of soda. Paul helped her clear the coffee table. She was in the kitchen washing the few bowls they used. He emptied the trash while she finished up.
She dried off her hands and put everything away. She was leaning against the counter when he walked back in. She motioned with her head for him to follow her. He kept his distance which was a surprise and blessing at the same time. She could feel his intense eyes roaming over her backside. Her heart beat picked up as she took slow steady breaths. Damn him, she thought. He wasn't even touching her and he had her worked up.
Paul watched her hips sway while her plump little ass begged to be bitten. The shorts she was wearing seem to get smaller with each step. He loved having those tan legs wrapped around him. She looked hot in his black wife beater. It showed enough skin, it was driving him crazy. They walked into the room and he closed the door. Her scent seemed to attack him.
She turned around slowly. " I know how difficult all of this is for the wolf," she began as she sat on the bed.
"It's difficult for me too," he replied. It was awkward being this close to her and feeling like she would rather be anywhere but with them.
She got up and walked over to him. She took his hands and walked back to the bed never taking her eyes off him. "I'm still angry with you," she said moving to the center of the bed. "But I don't want to talk about it. You, the wolf and I need to be close."
He wrapped his arms around her. She was right, they needed this closeness. Whatever angry still lingered wasn't important. He felt her relax against him. She was taking deep breaths, inhaling his scent. He was doing the same. He had a weird feeling in his gut there was something going on beyond his control. Whatever it was it could not only hurt them but the people they love.
Paul could hear the guys moving around. They were getting ready for the meeting with the Cullen's. He looked at the clock but they still had time before the meeting. He pulled Evie closer to him. She was still asleep by the sounding of her breathing. He ran his hand down to her waist and over her hips. He moved his hand over her ass and gently squeezed. She moaned making his dick hard.
The air seemed to crackle with electricity as their bodies touched. It was difficult to keep any real space between them. They fit perfectly together in every way.
Evie opened her eyes and smiled when she looked into Paul's eyes. It didn't matter if she was still mad at him, waking up his arms always made her smile. "I'm sorry about earlier," she said placing her hand on his cheek.
He kissed her as he rolled them over so she was underneath him. "I should make you beg for forgiveness but I guess I can be nice," he kissed her neck and shoulder. "Especially knowing what a asshole Wyatt is and you still fell into his trap." He pulled away when she pushed against his chest.
"I was talking about falling asleep on you when you were explaining what happen with the leech," she said pushing away from him. She turned the light on. "I'm not apologizing for your overreaction at the beach." She was standing up looking at him.
He was sitting up on the bed with an annoyed look on his face. "Are you fucking serious," he began. "You're not apologizing." He stood up slowly, never taking his eyes off her.
"No. Just like last night," she angrily spit out. "You jumped to the wrong conclusion." The dark look in his eyes would make most people back up and run. But she wasn't about to give him the satisfaction of knowing he scared a little bit. She placed her hand on her hips.
"Well I'm not apologizing either," he snapped. There was a knock at the door. "I'll be right down Embry." He didn't move as he watched her.
"You better go before Sam gets upset," she said walking to the door.
"You know you're wrong," he scoffed. He put his hand on the door before she could open it.
"Why? Because you say so," she angrily said. She moved his hand off the door.
"Hell yeah," he replied as she flung open the door.
Embry was shaking his head. They could all hear their argument from downstairs. He looked at his sister but she seemed to be holding her own. He was proud of her not letting Paul intimidate her.
"Hey Embry," she smiled at him. "Paul was just leaving." She leaned against Embry as Paul glared at her.
Embry didn't say anything as Evie and Paul continued to stare at each other. He didn't want to leave in case Paul did lose his temper. Paul walked away and didn't look back. He felt Evie relax but he could sense she was a bit hurt.
"We shouldn't be gone too long," Embry said as he hugged her.
"Be careful," she said hugging him back. "Please keep an eye on Paul. You know when he's mad he sometimes doesn't think." She looked down the hall knowing everyone heard them.
"I will sis," Embry responded before walking away.
Evie went back to bed but she couldn't sleep. The clock showed six in the morning. She thought about her boys back home. They were probably still in the water. She let out a frustrated breath and decided to take a shower.
Everyone was still asleep from what she could tell. She quickly jumped into the shower and let the water wash away all her anger or she hoped it washed away the anger. She washed her body and tried not to think of Paul. He really thought she was wrong. He never once took responsibility for his actions. She turned the water off and dried off.
She walked into her room as her phone rang. She quickly answered it. "Hey Jerry," she said smiling. "You're calling earlier than normal. Is everything okay?" she asked taking the towel off her head.
"Everything is fine," Jerry answered. "We're good, except we miss you. Not to mention I got this weird feeling that something was wrong." He placed the phone on the round table in front of him.
"Are you saying your best friend instincts kicked in?" she asked laughing.
"Of course," Jerry replied laughing. He flipped off Toby and Rex when they made gagging noises.
"Plus Nana called," Tank added. He leaned back in his seat. He kicked Dave's feet off the table.
"She said you and Paul had an argument," Toby quickly added. He picked up his bottle of water.
"Where are you guys?" Evie asked. She leaned against the headboard.
"My house," Dave answered. "The waves sucked. We decided to cut out early and call our favorite girl."
"Did he cheat on you?" Jerry asked leaning forward.
"No," she quickly replied. She rolled her eyes. "It was bad," she answered. "We've had disagreements but this was bad."
"How bad is bad?" Toby asked. He couldn't picture Evie and Paul angry at each other.
"I kicked him out of his own house," she answered. She closed her eyes as they began to talk at once.
"Evie, what happen?" Rex asked confused. "Start from the beginning."
She took a deep breath. "I got two flat tires a week ago," she said. "Wyatt gave me a ride home. But he gave me some dry clothes to change into. He waited out in the rain while I changed in the back of his truck." She heard Toby and Tank swear.
"Shorty, isn't this the guy who has a crush on you?" Dave asked. He shook his head knowing the answer.
"Yes," she answered.
"So you told Paul and he blew a gasket?" Toby asked.
"No," she responded.
"Spit it out short stuff," Tank said frustrated. He was done with the one word answers.
"Wyatt's cousin Abby told Paul," she said feeling a bit uncomfortable.
"Why didn't you tell him?" Jerry asked. "And who the hell is Abby?" he asked looking at the guys.
"Abby is the girl who fucked Paul last year," Toby replied throwing a towel at Jerry.
"Abby still has feelings for Paul," Rex added hitting Jerry behind the head.
"Pay attention man," Dave said as he threw an empty water bottle at Jerry.
"One of our friends got sick and it slipped my mind to tell Paul," Evie said. "But Abby told Paul last night." She ran her hand through her hair. "Paul punched Wyatt twice and then yelled at me. I had no idea what he was talking about at first." She listened as they talked to each other.
"Shortness," Tank tried to figure out how to say something without upsetting Evie. "You do realize Paul had a reason to be upset."
"Tank's right," Toby said resting his elbows on his knees.
"Who else thinks Paul is right?" she asked waiting for them to respond.
"We all do," Rex answered. He looked around at the guys for confirmation.
"You're supposed to be my family," she said angrily. "So it was okay to listen to Abby and get pissed off without even talking to me first?" she asked. She tried to calm down but it was hard to as she listened to them take Paul's side.
"Paul should have talked to you about what Abby said," Jerry replied. "But come on Shorty, you know we are only telling you the truth."
"Remember when Kim kissed me at the end of last summer," Rex said. "You told me I was an idiot to kiss her knowing I was interested in Chloe."
"Chloe was out of your league little brother," Tank laughed as Rex flipped him off. "Shorty, remember when I slept with Debbie," he said. "Big mistake and you rip me a new one for being a complete dick to her afterwards." Evie didn't talk to him for a week.
"There was the time I put bubble bath in John's gas tank," Toby laughed. "I thought he was after Jenny but it turned out they were rehearsing for a play." Everyone laughed.
"Or anything Dave has done in the last ten years," Jerry said. "You have to admit, we have all done some stupid stuff."
"A lot of stupid stuff," she amended.
"Even though we are family," Toby said. "We are always honest with each other. I would say if the roles were reversed but you give everyone the benefit of the doubt until they do something really bad. You are way too nice." He got up and grabbed a soda out of the fridge.
"Look at it from Paul's point of view," Dave took a drink. "He trusts you but that guy Wyatt isn't going to stop until he gets his ass kicked."
"Paul broke his nose," Evie stated.
"The guy deserved it," Rex casually commented.
"But I changed in front of you guys when we went surfing. He didn't say a word," she pointed out.
"That's different," Jerry quickly responded.
"We're family and we would never take advantage of you," Toby added.
"So I should see it from his point of view and apologize," she muttered. She took a deep breath. "It hurts that he listened to Abby and didn't even talk to me. We had this huge yelling match in front of everyone. Jacob and my brother Embry had to hold him back." She wiped at her eyes as a few tears fell.
"You need to talk to him," Tank said. "Let him know how you feel. But you need to apologize for not telling him about that dickhead Wyatt." He didn't like this Wyatt guy and he didn't even know him.
"Next time Shorty," Jerry said. "Stay in your wet clothes."
"I'm not happy with any of you," Evie replied. "But you guys are right. Even though Paul respects my relationship with you guys doesn't mean it extends to everyone else." Now she felt bad for arguing with Paul before he left to talk to the Cullen's.
"We're special," Dave said. "Are we going to see you for Christmas? We are thinking Hawaii." He put his feet on the table.
"Let me talk to Derek and Paul first," she quickly said. "But Hawaii does sound fun." The thought of being surrounded by the sun, great food and perfect waves sounded awesome.
"How are things with your brother?" Jerry asked. He was happy for her but a part of him was a bit jealous.
Evie heard something in Jerry's voice. "Embry is good. We are getting use to one another," she answered. "But no matter what Jerry, you will always be my brother." She couldn't imagine not having him in her life.
They talked for a few more minutes before hanging up. She decided to head downstairs and start on breakfast. It was the least she could do after causing a scene at Embry's party. She walked into the kitchen to see Valisa pulling out pans.
"Morning Nana," she greeted her with a big hug.
"Morning sweetie," Valisa held her close. "I thought I would help with breakfast and give you girls a break." She patted Evie on the cheek before continuing.
"I'll help," Evie happily exclaimed. "It's been a while since we've made anything together." She kissed Valisa on the cheek.
Evie went to the fridge and pulled out a few carton of eggs, bacon and sausage. They worked silently at first. But she had a feeling Valisa was waiting for the right time to talk to her. She was cracking the eggs when Valisa cleared her throat.
"I heard you were upset last night but I'm hoping you had time to calm down," Valisa said moving the bacon and sausage around.
Evie started to scramble the eggs. "Yeah, the boys called me earlier," she confessed. "But I'm not in the mood to talk, maybe in a bit." She grabbed the peppers Valisa cut up and poured them in the eggs.
"Guys are naturally jealous sweetie," Valisa lowered the heat on the sausage. "But being a wolf makes them even more temperamental." She grabbed the cantaloupe and began to cut it up.
"Nana," Evie scolded. She knew it wouldn't help. Valisa had to say her peace.
"Paul is the worst of them," Leah stated as she walked into the kitchen. "But he has changed since you two got together." She bumped hips with Evie. "I'm going to take a shower. The guys should be back in twenty minutes."
Evie nodded as she continued making breakfast. She knew it was just a matter of time before she saw Paul. It made her stomach do flips. She was actually nervous.
"Breakfast is ready," Valisa yelled from the back door. She smiled when Jacob, Embry and Seth emerged from the trees. "Paul, that includes you sugar." She walked over to the cabinet and pulled out the plates.
"Valisa, we can make the plates for the bottomless pits," Leah offered. Bella nodded in agreement. "Besides you and Evie made all the food. It's only fair." She took the plates as Valisa laughed.
"Okay," Valisa said moving away from the stove. "This will give me a few moments to talk to my granddaughter." She had a frown on her face.
"Yeah, she didn't want to talk last night either," Bella commented. She gave Valisa a quick hug. "They'll work it out."
"Thank you sweetheart," Valisa patted Bella on the cheek. "I know my baby girl, she'll talk when she's ready but sometimes she needs a little push in the right direction." She sighed and shook her head.
Seth was the first through the door. He went straight into the living and hugged Gina. "Good morning," he gently said as he leaned his forehead against hers.
"Good morning," Gina softly said. "Aren't you hungry?" she asked slowly pulling away. She touched his cheek and smiled.
Embry grabbed the bottle by the plants and squirted Seth. "Down boy, no pawing the innocent imprint," he laughed. "Keep it clean pup." He continued to laugh as he plopped down on the couch.
Jacob walked into the living with a plate in one hand and an arm around Bella, who was carrying two plates. They sat down and tried not to laugh.
Gina blushed and grabbed her bag. "I think I'll freshen up," she shyly said as she looked around.
Evie was half ways down the stairs but stopped. "Gina the bathroom is the second door on the right." She motioned for Gina to follow her. When she opened the door, Paul's shorts were hanging half way in the hamper. She tossed them in and his scent seemed to surround her. She smiled and tried to brush it off.
"Thanks for letting me spend the night," Gina walked into the bathroom.
"No problem," Evie replied. "I'm sorry for being distracted at the party."
"You were kind of busy," Gina pointed out. "Besides my mom got to meet Seth and it really helped being around all of you when he explained everything." She placed her bag on the counter.
"Do you think knowing about the legends helped you understand everything a bit better?" Evie asked leaning against the door frame. She knew Paul was downstairs and she wasn't ready to face him.
"Actually it did," Gina replied. "The only thing that kind of worries me is…umm…never having a private conversation." She turned slightly red.
Evie laughed. "My problem in the beginning was their sense of smell," she groaned when laughter floated up the stairs. "Here's some advice," she leaned in close to Gina. "If you plan on making out, do it far away from the guys or they will tease you." She moved back.
"Are they really that bad?" Gina asked looking around.
"Yes, we are," Quil answered from downstairs. He was laughing until someone hit him.
"Thanks, I'll have to remember that one," Gina laughed blushing. She watched Evie twist her hands as she looked towards the stairs. "Still not ready to face him, I see," she stated as she bumped Evie's shoulder.
"There are towels in the cupboard. If you need anything else, let me know," Evie gave her a smile before walking down the hall.
Paul stood by the back door. He knew Evie was still pissed. Her scent was calling to him and he desperately wanted to answer.
"You're not supposed to be here," Leah muttered under her breath. She glanced at him and felt a little bad. He looked like hell.
"My sugar has my permission to be here," Valisa said giving Paul a wink.
Leah took pity on him and handed him a plate.
"Thanks," Paul mumbled. He took a seat at the table.
"Hurry and make up with her," Leah said. "It's no fun picking on you when you look this pathetic." She grabbed a plate in each hand and headed into the living room.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Valisa asked. She took a bite of her eggs. "I know my sweetie pie can be a handful at times but she loves you." She patted his hand.
"I don't even know where to begin," Paul shrugged. He took a bite of his food and ran his hand through his hair. "She probably won't talk to me after this morning." He took a drink.
"What happen this morning?" Valisa asked confused.
"We had a misunderstanding," Paul muttered. "I thought she was apologizing for last night but it was for something else. I started to lose my temper." He shrugged as he took another drink.
"She'll talk to you," Valisa said confidently. "Once she gets her little butt downstairs."
Paul stiffened when he raised his glass. Valisa looked towards the door and waited until she got a glimpse of her stubborn granddaughter.
Evie walked into the kitchen but stopped. She looked at Paul for a moment. Damn it, of course Valisa invited him in. She bit her lip when she involuntarily took a step towards him. "Nana," she shook her head at Valisa before giving her a kiss. "I see you started mediating." She grabbed a glass and filled it with orange juice. She filled Paul's glass too.
"Of course sweetie," Valisa gestured for her to a seat. "That's what we old woman do. We meddle in our grandchild's business. We give excellent advice." She laughed.
"I didn't think about it earlier but I never told you about my argument with Paul last night," Evie stated with a skeptically look.
"No, you didn't," Valisa answered with straight face.
"Since I didn't tell you or dad anything," Evie began as she tapped her fingers against her chin. She avoided looking at Paul. "I am going to guess it was Billy who told Charlie and of course he told dad. Since Derek can't keep a secret, he told you and Papa. But-" She leaned back in her chair.
Valisa looked away.
"Jacob," Evie and Paul said at the same time.
"It slipped out," Jacob shouted as everyone laughed.
"Suck it up Evie," Embry shouted from the living room laughing. "Quit being a baby."
Evie got up from the table and walked to the doorway. She glared at Embry. "Nana, since Embry's my brother and I know how you feel about family," she began with a sly smile. "That could potentially make him your grandchild too." She stuck her tongue out at him when he flipped her off.
"Marshall and I were thinking along those lines," Valisa answered. "But it is entirely up to Embry." She watched as Embry came in the kitchen and put Evie in a headlock. They were laughing and carrying on. This little moment between brother and sister brought tears to her eyes. Kathy should be here with them, sharing in this moment.
"Nana," Paul took her hand in his. "Are you okay?" He kneeled down in front of her.
"Yes," Valisa laughed wiping the tears away. "I was just thinking Kathy would have loved seeing Embry and Evie playing around and bonding." She wiped at her eyes. "She always wanted a house full of kids.
Embry and Evie where standing behind Paul. She leaned against Embry and placed a hand on Paul's shoulder.
"I know mom is watching over us," Evie smiled as tears threaten to fall. "She wouldn't want us to dwell on the past. She would want us to live in the moment and be thankful for having each other." She hugged Valisa. "Please don't cry Nana." She rubbed Valisa's back.
"Your right sweetie," Valisa laughed. "Your mama would be disappointed by the way I'm carrying on." She patted Evie on the cheek. She hugged Paul and then hugged Embry. She turned to Evie. "Let's make ourselves a plate." She grabbed two plates and handed one to Evie.
"When does Debra get here?" Embry asked. He was a little nervous to meet an attorney who knew more about him then he did her.
"Derek said later this afternoon," Valisa answered. She nodded at Evie but was met with a firm shake of the head. She gave Evie a look known for getting anyone to do as they were told.
Evie sighed as she rolled her eyes. "They are meeting with a colleague of theirs," she said putting down her plate and motioned for Embry to follow her outside.
"Why do I get the feeling I'm not going to like this?" Embry sighed in frustration as he followed Evie. He closed the door.
Evie took a deep breath. "Mitchell filed for custody," she began. She paced around in a slow circle.
"Yeah, I know that," Embry scoffed. He walked down the steps and stopped in front of her.
Evie glared at him before smacking him which was a mistake since he's nothing but muscles. "I'll have Paul hit you next time," she complained shaking her hand.
"Now you know not to mess with your big brother," he laughed. He messed up her hair. "So what did dear old dad do now?" he asked making a face.
"He filed to have the custody case moved to La Push since we have Quileute blood," she answered. "Billy already informed the courts the Council ruled on this matter when I first moved here. They are permitting me to live with Derek." She wrapped her arms around her waist.
He pulled her into a hug. "But that's good news," he said. When her heartbeat started to beat faster he pulled away. She shook her head. "What?" he asked trying to read her expression.
"When Mitchell doesn't get his way," she slowly said. "He finds other ways to get back at us. He hasn't pushed for visitations but it's the most likely step." She held on to him when he began to shake.
"He really is an asshole," he hissed. She began to bite her lower lip. "What else?"
"Well," she quietly said. "Your meeting with him didn't go as he planned and if he sticks to his usual playbook, he will push for custody for you and state your mom is unfit." She saw the anger in eyes.
"I won't live with him," he snapped. He took a step back and ran a hand down his face.
"I know that's why Derek is looking into maybe you living with us," she quickly responded. "It might sound a little crazy but you're my brother. We don't want you to go through the same crap I've gone through." She wiped the tears from her cheek.
"That seems a bit too much," he said rubbing the back of his neck. "I can't ask you guys to do that for me." He blocked the tin cup Evie threw at him. "What?" he asked innocently.
"You are really thickheaded," she scoffed with a roll of her eyes. "Of course you're not asking us. We volunteered." She shook her head. "It's what families do for one another. They protect each other."
"Would it even work?" he asked sitting on the back steps.
"I'm not sure," she answered, "but it doesn't hurt to try." She sat next to him and placed her head on his shoulder.
Evie picked up Paul's dirty clothes. She tossed them in hamper in the bathroom. She couldn't avoid him any longer. She was going to be the bigger person and apologize. She smirked at her reflection before tossing the last piece of garment. It looked like she was going to lose the battle but she was definitely going to win the war. She skipped down the stairs and headed towards the kitchen.
"Now I think you and your young man need to have a talk," Valisa said wiping her hands on the dishtowel. Bella and Leah washed all the dishes while Valisa took care of the pans. She stood by the counter.
"Nana," Evie scolded with a smile. She noticed everyone had left except Bella and Leah. "I'll see you later when Dad and Debra come by." She hugged Valisa.
"See you later Evie," Leah called out as she opened the front door. "Paul, wipe the smirk off your face." She hit him on the back of the head.
"I'll call you later Evie," Bella said before walking out the door.
"Play nice you two," Valisa warned. She kissed Paul on the cheek. "Control your temper." She waved goodbye before closing the door.
Paul turned to face Evie with a smirk on his face. He crossed his arms waiting for her to say something. They were staring at each other but neither one said a word.
Evie took a deep breath. "About last night," she began. She leaned against the wall. "I understand why you reacted the way you did. But I wish you would have talked to me before you punched Wyatt." The smirk on his face quickly changed to anger.
"What?" he angrily shouted. "Are you fucking serious? You're defending that asshole." His hands were balled into fists.
"I'm not defending him," Evie shouted back. "I'm talking about the conversation you had with Abby. Did it ever occur to you she might have been lying?" She kept her arms locked around her waist.
"But she wasn't," he spit out. "You smiled when he sat next to you. What the hell did you expect me do? Act like it was okay for him to touch what's ours." He walked past her into the kitchen.
"Yes, I smiled at him but I also told him to keep his hands off of me. Leah and I had to hold on to Embry so he wouldn't do anything," she said with her hands on her hips. "I didn't want to make a scene at my brother's birthday party like someone, who shall remain nameless."
"Yeah right," he snapped. "If that was the case you wouldn't have been concerned when I punched him." He was standing in front of her breathing a little hard as he tried to keep calm.
"I need some air," she muttered as she turned around. She opened the back door.
"Can't handle the truth," he smirked. He crossed his arms over his chest.
"I can handle it just fine," she spit out. "What I can't handle is the big temperamental wolf polluting the air." She walked outside.
He ran his hand down his face. "What the hell does that mean?" he asked as he placed his hands on the doorframe.
"You're not my favorite person right now," she yelled over her shoulder.
He watched her walk away angry and he was turned on. He smiled as he watched her hips sway. The thin material of her skirt showed off her plump little ass. The tank top showed her full breast. His dick was throbbing to get out. He licked his lips as he slowly followed her.
The air was a bit chilly. She wrapped her arms around her waist. The long cotton skirt she was wearing was a bit thinner than she thought. It also didn't help she was wearing a tank top. He made her so angry and the only thought she had was walking away before they really said something they couldn't take back. She headed towards the shed since it was the only thing around besides the house.
He smiled as he continued to follow without her knowing. Once he noticed where she was headed it didn't take long for him to pick up the pace. He easily picked her up and threw her over his shoulder.
"Put me down Paul," she smacked his ass and tried to pull away from him.
He laughed and smacked her right back. She cried out as he groaned. She wasn't wearing panties and he was ready to explode. He closed the door to the shed as soon as he walked in.
He slowly slid her down his body. He was breathing in every inch of her. He cupped her face and kissed her. He didn't wait for permission to access her mouth. His tongue began to explore her delicious mouth. He lifted her up and held her as he grabbed a sheet and placed in on the table. He cupped her ass and began to squeeze with a little more pressure than normal.
She pulled him closer as she deepened the kiss. It was wrong to want him knowing how angry she was at him. She wanted nothing more than to push him away but she couldn't. Her body wanted him. She bit his lip hard as she ran he nails down his back. She moaned as he began to move his hands under her shirt. He pinched her nipples as he bit along her neck.
"I'm still mad at you," she groaned in his ear as she bit his earlobe. "So angry…that feels so good…at you."
"Me too," he hissed as he spread her legs open. He moved her skirt up her thighs. "We can mark off angry sex from the list." He growled when he realized how wet she was for him. He dropped to his knees inhaled deeply. "I'm fucking pissed off." The growl that slipped past his lips seemed to echo off the walls.
"Oh Paul," she moaned as he sucked her clit between his teeth.
Her legs were shaking as he continued to suck on her clit. He didn't give her time to breath or adjust to the sensation. He stroked her lovely wet lips with his fingers and tongue. He slowly pushed in a finger as he sucked on her clit hard. She moaned and threw her head back. When he slowly pulled his finger out but added a second finger as he quickly pushed back into her hot center. Her legs wrapped around his head. He added a third finger and pumped them in and out of her in a fast motion. He wanted her to come fast and hard. The wolf was close to the surface.
Evie looked down to see Paul's eyes slowly turn yellow around the iris. She didn't try to hold back as her body shook. She screamed out his name over and over. Her hands were in his hair holding him close to her. This was different. It was rougher and more about quick pleasure and release. The sound of something tearing was drowned out by her moans.
He took what he needed from her as the wolf smiled. Her taste was the only thing he craved. She coated his tongue with pure pleasure. When he stood up it was quick and fast. He kissed her and pushed into her fast and hard. He held her hips as he pumped in and out of her. She fisted his hair as she dominated the kiss.
When she finally took a breath, she begged for more. Her head fell back as she moaned for him to go faster. He smiled as he bit along her shoulder. He was slamming into harder but it wasn't enough. They wanted more. He lifted her up and dropped the sheet on the ground. When he placed her on the ground her legs were wobbly. She got on all fours knowing exactly what they wanted. He lifted her skirt over her ass and smacked it hard. She hissed and he smiled as his hand print appeared.
He grabbed her hair and plunged into her. She threw her head back and moaned as something pulled at her waist. He wanted to go slow but the wolf wouldn't allow it. He set the pace and it was fast and rough. The grip he had on her hip was going to leave a mark but he couldn't stop. It felt too fucking good. He didn't understand how she was able to keep up with him. It turned him on hearing her call out his name.
"Your pussy feels so fucking good," he growled. He smacked her ass again. "So fucking tight."
"Harder," she begged. "Paul… more…faster." She cried out when he lifted her leg up. His demanding thrusts were wild and aggressive.
Her body was begging for everything he could give her. He pushed on the spot between her shoulder blades. The feel of his rough hand on her soft skin turned her on. She lowered her upper body down to the ground knowing it would give him a better angle. He gripped her hips hard as he moved faster and harder into her. When he hit her spot, she lost it. Her legs were shaking as white and black spots took over her vision. The deep throaty growl that came out her caused another orgasm to rock her body.
He groaned as her release had her inner walls locking down on him. She had him in a hot wet vice and he loved it. He leaned over covering her body with his. He moved his hands down her arms and thrusted in and out of her. He intertwined their fingers as he bit and sucked along her neck and shoulder. She moaned and called out his name.
"Come for me baby," he groaned as he fought to keep the wolf back. He snapped his hips hard and fast knowing she was about to come undone.
"Yes…yes… Paul," she cried out. "Don't stop." Her breathing hitched as her inner walls quivered from her release.
He grunted in her ear as he thrusted into her. The sound of their skin slapping echoed off the walls. His release shook them both. He moved in and out of her as he rode out his orgasm. He collapsed next to her with his arm around her waist.
"Best angry sex ever," he kissed her shoulder as he tried to steady his breathing.
She raised an eyebrow at him. "I'm still angry," she retorted out of breath. "And when…did you rip…my clothes off?" She looked down at her naked body next to his.
"It's called skills baby," he kissed her hard.
He ran his hand down her body as he tried to slow his breathing. She looked fucking incredible naked. They definitely needed to venture out more often.
"And your right, I should have talked to you after my conversation with Abby," he moved a strand of her hair away from her face.
"I'm sorry for two reasons," she said moving closer to him. "I should have never gotten changed in the back of his truck and I should have told you about it no matter what was going on." She rubbed her thumb over his lips. He kissed her thumb.
"So I'm temperamental huh?" he asked with a sly smile.
"Baby, you know you're hot headed," she replied. "Quick to judge and on numerous occasions have been known to lose your temper faster than you can snap your fingers." She rested her chest on his.
"I still don't see the problem," he answered moving her on top of him.
"Some might say temperamental is a bad thing," she responded. "But I love those qualities in you. Imagine how boring it would be if we didn't argue." She kissed him.
"Maybe you could tell the Pack all about my good qualities," he moved his hands down her back.
"Right now might not be a good idea," she laughed. He growled and rolled them over.
"If I didn't know better," he said as he kissed her. "I would think you like to argue." He rubbed his nose along her jaw.
"I could handle an argument once a week," she moaned as he settled between her legs.
"I think I could arrange that," he muttered as he kissed her neck. "Fuck," he growled as he grabbed his shorts.
"Crap," he muttered as looked for her phone.
"Embry and Leah will be here in twenty minutes," he showed her the text.
She showed him her phone. "My dad and Debra will be her in fifteen," she said looking at her torn clothes. "Damn it, how long have we been out here?" She wrapped the sheet around her as she picked up her torn clothes.
"A few hours," he answered with a big smile. She placed a hand on her hip. "We can argue about this later." He pulled on his shorts and picked her up.
He didn't waste a single moment as he ran back to the house. Another round of angry sex and a couple of makeup sessions was exactly what they needed. He planned to start on all of it soon.
