Huffing, I ran as fast as I could. The castle walls were in sight. I was almost there which means I would be close to leaving Camelot behind. My legs were burning but I knew I couldn't stop. I could hear the guards yelling amongst themselves trying to find me. I'm so close. So very close. The sun was glaring into my eyes as I could faintly see the bridge that connected the Camelot's walls to the outside world. There was a shadow of someone on the bridge. I slowed down in caution as I tried to identify the them. My heart sank when I realised that Leon was standing in front of me. He didn't make his way towards me. He just stood there, smiling. Inviting me towards him. I tried to read into his smile, but I couldn't sense any form of emotion. His smile was vacant and yet I couldn't help but smile back.
I shook my head in frustration. What was I thinking? This was Leon. He didn't have to have a hidden agenda to be happy to see me. Perhaps he's forgiven me for my deception. I sighed and ran towards him to wrap my arms around his muscular body. In the warmth of the Sun, we stood in the middle of the bridge in each others' arms. It saddened me that I had to leave all of this behind, that I had to leave him behind but I knew it was the right thing to do, for the best of Friardor.
I released Leon and took a step back to get a better look at him. It was time for me to leave. I couldn't stay much longer. I had to lead the people of Friardor. Help the live safe and happy lives even though my happiness would have to be sacrificed. I gave him one last smile. As I was about to back away from him, he caressed my cheek with his thumb. I laid my head onto his palm and closed my eyes as I could feel the warmth radiating off his soft skin. Suddenly, a slight force from his hand was drawing me closer to him and just before I could open my eyes, his soft lips were pressed onto mine. The fierce passion and electricity flowing from his lips and throughout my body was extraordinary. I was beginning to regret abandoning him for Friardor.
I pulled away and looked up at him before I leaned my forehead onto his chest. A tears fell from my eyes as I closed them. I took a deep breath and whispered the final words I wanted him to remember before I left.
"I love you."
It was met by silence. I looked up at him and saw him smiling again. Confusion was written across my face. He didn't say a word to me. Not a single response. Instead, he yelled something that caused my heart to break.
"Guards!"
I gasped and turned around to find a large group of the King's men running towards me. I looked back at Leon and he was still smiling. That empty smile. I kept my eyes fixated on him as I was being dragged away and that smile never faded from his lips.
I gasped as I sat up from my place. In a panicked state, I scanned my surroundings to find myself back in the cell with Antoine sleeping soundly on the pile of hay that covered the cold ground of the cell. My breathing was still rapid as I looked down at my legs to find a thin sheet covering them. I sighed with relief as I realised what had happened.
"It was just a dream," I muttered to myself as I tried to shake out the dreadful thoughts from my mind. "Just a dream."
