Chapter 26 Know Your Enemy

This is it! The Ground Operation was about to begin. Allura was ready, more than ready; she was eager, adrenaline coursing through her veins in anticipation. She, McClain, and Carter were the only three to make it this far. The Academy brass was already in an uproar with her and Geni's scores after the Flight Operation portion of the competition. Now it's time to give the Academy something they'll never forget.

The three teammates huddled next to each other. They had 15 minutes to look over and study the mission they were given as well as devise a tentative plan of attack. In Phase One, they had to make it passed an enemy camp ground without alerting their presence to the main enemy base. In Phase Two, they had to infiltrate the base and make it to the main control room. Once in the control room, they had to download a specific file and destroy the compound. Finally, in Phase Three they had to acquire the main target objective: a heavily guarded crate holding a highly classified military weapon capable of causing unfathomable destruction. In order to gain the weapons required for Phase Two, they would have to successfully complete Phase One. The same would be said for the weapons for Phase Three. Seeing as though she was Panther Commander, Allura studied the orders carefully before consulting with her team.

After witnessing the adrenaline packed Flight Op, the occupants in the observation room were on pins and needles waiting for the Ground Op to start. In order to maintain the integrity of each Phase, as well as the competition itself, cameras were set at every angle covering the vast expanse of land area that the Op would cover. Those in the room would be able to see and hear every detail of the operation.

Keith, Lance, Hunk, Pidge, Jeff, Cliff, Leesa, Ginger, and Liam were standing at attention as Admiral Graham, Vice Admiral Gotham, and Rear Admiral McClain entered the observation room. Graham and McClain approached the group of friends and officers as they all saluted. After calling 'at ease', Graham and Charles McClain approached Keith and handed him a copy of the orders for the Ground Op.

"What's this for?" Keith questioned.

Charles McClain and Graham smirked at each other. "We thought we could make this interesting." Grinned Graham.

"How so?" asked Lance, giving his father a raised brow.

Charles McClain chuckled. "Just curious as to how you boys" he paused looking at Leesa and Ginger "and ladies of course" then turned back to Keith and his team "would handle this op as opposed to Altair and her team. You are all considered the 'Academy Elite' after all." He finished with a wink as he patted both his boys on the shoulder.

Lance smiled evilly and rubbed his hands together. "Oh yeah, this should be good. McClain versus McClain"

Keith laughed. "Ha! Too bad you only get to use your brain otherwise you might actually stand a chance."

"Screw you, Kogane" Lance snorted.

Everyone gathered around Keith to take a peek at the orders. The Voltron Force commander studied them closely, grateful for the distraction as his pain was beginning to flare up. While he looked over the orders, the rest of the group began to offer up their own suggestions as to how they would proceed. Keith sat quietly, formulating his own plan in his mind until Lance's voice brought him back to the rest of the room.

"So All-knowing One, what would Keith Kogane do?" said Lance as he crossed his arms in front of him.

"Well, it depends. Who would be my team?" he smiled, really enjoying this challenge.

Admiral McClain looked around the room and answered. "Take Lance, of course, and Leesa."

Keith shrugged in agreement. "Fair enough. Hmm, let's see." He thought for a moment, glancing at the information within the orders about the various bases and camp set ups, as well as approximate enemy combatants in each phase. "The camp itself is not heavily guarded; however, some guards do have laser weapons while we would not. I'd go out in front…take a few out and secure some weapons to pass along to Lieutenant Trigger Happy. He can handle what gets passed me while Leesa covers the back. Lees and I should be able to take out whatever Lance leaves behind." He paused to smirk at his long-time friend while Lance huffed and rolled his eyes. The captain continued "Best option based on the layout would be to come in from the South end. It will provide a better visual in case we need to improvise due to unforeseen circumstances." Keith added. Charles McClain nodded in agreement, as did Leesa and Lance.

"Now, Phase Two can go a couple different ways, depending on how many of us make it passed One. Regardless, there are a lot of weapons and explosives involved here. The best bet would be to infiltrate from the top…land on the roof of the compound. Stay out of sight and assess the situation. Disarm the main look-out guards and just go in, guns blazing. No question that Lance knows how to handle ammo like a pro." Keith added nodding to his friend and partner in crime.

Lance sighed deeply and brushed his hand over his shoulder as though he were dusting it off. "Yes, it's a gift, really" he exhaled with a smile.

It was Keith's turn to roll his eyes. He continued "One of us will go in, retrieve the file, and set the detonators while the others, or other, cover."

Graham smiled at Keith's planning. It never ceased to amaze him how quickly his prodigy could come up with proper strategic maneuvers. "As for Phase Three…" Keith went to continue but Lance interrupted

"I'll handle this one Captain Awesome, after all it is a no brainer" he spat as he threw Keith a dirty look. Keith crossed his arms and gave a light-hearted laugh. "I believe I speak for Leesa as well when I say that Phase Three would just be handed over to the Jedi master over here. Hell knows he loves all that ninja, sword yielding black-ops shit" Lance concluded with a sarcastic smirk.

Leesa Laughed. "I can't really argue that point" she agreed.

The friends joined in on the laughter. Everyone knew that Keith was the martial arts expert of the group having been trained by his father from the moment he began to walk. The mysterious Kenneth Kogane had quite a reputation for his abilities, no doubt about that. Their little game was interrupted when the Admiral heard Allura start to speak to her team.

"Well, let's see what Altair plans to do." He nodded toward the main screen as they all took notice and began to listen, intently.

Allura laid out the maps and called to Geni and Jason.

"All right Mac, what's the plan?" asked Jason. Allura chuckled at him. "Sorry…force of habit." He smiled back.

Allura nodded and began to point to several areas as she spoke. "OK, listen up. We don't have much time. They're gonna sound the start in about 10 minutes. Jason, I am only going to say this once. Do not try and be a hero. I know what I'm doing, got it?" she said sharply, slightly glaring at him, daring him to challenger her. He looked down and then back at her

"Got it." he said and she nodded back at him.

"So, here's the plan. Phase one…I'll go in first, take out what I can, confiscate some weapons and hand them off to Blazing McClain while she picks up the slack. Carter, you cover our backs. Will enter in the South…it'll give us a better idea of what's up in case we have to improvise. Phase Two, we come in from above, the roof is our best bet. We knock out the main guards and just go all in. One of us will get the file, set the detonators, and take out the control room while the others cover. Whether we all make it out or not, I believe that we can agree that Phase Three is mine…any questions?" she said, with full confidence and determination as she looked at her two team members.

Back in the observation room everyone was dumbfounded, including the Admirals, as they all glared at Keith who was just as dumbfounded as the rest of them. Allura had just laid out the exact plan that he had come up with.

Liam couldn't help himself as he chuckled. "Well, well…looks like someone is finally going to give Mr. Number-One a run for his money and it's a chickie babe to boot! Just when I thought she couldn't possibly be any hotter…" he said as he leaned back in his chair.

They all turned to glare at him. Keith's eyes narrowed, wanting more than anything to punch him but, alas, there were too many witnesses and he was in too much pain. Instead, they chose to ignore the Infinity commander and focus their attention back to the main screen.

Allura closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She then looked at Geni and Jason. The three huddled close together and put their arms around each other.

"This is it guys. Remember, we are a team. It's not a race. We are not battling against each other. Stick to the plan and we'll make history. Right here, right now." Geni and Jason took in what she said.

"Should we go all 'three musketeers' on you now?" smirked Geni, still embracing her team. They all laughed but quickly swung around and stood at attention as the first warning shot sounded. Shot two this is it, no turning back. Shot three it's on!

In the observation room, Lance, Hunk, Pidge, and Keith focused on the monitors knowing fair well that their Princess was out to prove herself with every fiber of her being; all four were filled with pride, nerves, and adrenaline over how this would go and the fact that Allura and Geni were about to make Academy history. Keith found that he could no longer stay seated. He stood next to his team, fists clenched at his side in anticipation of the fight and battles that were about to unfold before them all.

Phase One went off with a bang! After scoping the area through the south entrance, Allura went in first, taking down three soldiers and confiscating their weapons, keeping one for herself, handing another over to Carter, then tossing two to Geni who was close behind her, but remained out of sight. Geni ducked behind a large redwood waiting for Allura to 'clean up' so that they could hold one of the combatants for questioning. The Panther commander figured they may be able to get some information about the number of soldiers attending to the compound. Geni stayed out of sight, unnoticed, just in case.

It appeared as though everything was going as planned. In the observation room, the Alliance elite were watching the action unfold. The Voltron Force stood wearing proud grins while everyone else whooped and howled. The girls and Carter were fighting amazingly well. As two more combatants were slowly approaching Allura from behind, something the guys knew she could easily handle, Leesa noticed movement in the corner of the second screen.

"Aw shit! What the hell is he doing!" she yelled. That's when they all noticed. Carter left his post to go after the two combatants coming up behind Allura, leaving them uncovered from behind.

"Aw bloody hell! He's going to get them all captured!" yelled Cliff as he slammed his hand on the table next to him.

"That bloke's definitely a stubby short of a six pack" snorted Liam as they all looked at him in confusion.

Cliff rolled his eyes "Means he's a dumbass" he explained as the rest of them nodded.

"That he is." Said Ginger. "What is it with you guys and the need to save us when we don't need saving? It's really frickin' annoying on so many levels!" she grunted.

"Relax Gingie. I bet you the girls will get out of it." said Leesa, with confidence.

"Really? And what makes you so sure?" said Jeff with a curious look.

Leesa giggled. "Easy, we have certain assets at our disposal that, when used properly, can be quite effective." She replied as she winked at Ginger and both women laughed. The men remained confused and turned back to the situation unfolding before them.

Allura was livid. Jason had explicitly disobeyed her orders. Not only were she and Carter now captured, but he was injured as well. She was staring him down as he did all he could to avoid her gaze. At the same time she was assessing the situation. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Geni behind the redwood. The combatants had not noticed her and she'd made it a point to acknowledge to Allura that she was armed. Allura sensed the fact that one of the soldiers was looking her over rather lustfully Figures, ugh! The young monarch decided to use it to her advantage, tearing her angry gaze from Carter and redirecting it to the soldier lusting after her- making it a point to look at him directly in the eye as a wicked grin tugged against her lips. The rugged man returned her intent gaze and furrowed his brow as he slowly approached her. The Panther leader did not back away, but rather moved slightly so that she could have a clear view of Geni while she continued her little 'game'.

"Enjoying yourself?" she asked, seductively.

"I can certainly appreciate the finer things that some spoils of war tend to offer" he replied, his lustful gaze never leaving hers.

Hunk leaned into Lance. "Um, what the hell is she doing?" he asked, a bit uncomfortable with this turn of events. Lance shook his head, not really wanting to think about it. "Hunk, I really don't want to know." He replied while Keith grimaced.

Ginger and Leesa noticed their exchange and giggled in the background. The men in the room, who were all disturbed yet slightly turned on by this interaction, stared at them.

"Relax boys...it's all good." Ginger winked as she pointed at the main screen.

Allura smiled at the soldier devilishly. "How 'bout we make a little compromise, hmm? You let my Commander go and I will willingly give you a taste of just how fine I can be." she sighed as she turned back and looked at his counterpart, "that goes for you too" she said, throwing him a wink and turning back to soldier number one. "besides, he's injured. It's not like he can do anything to you. Now, I'm sure two big, strong, fully armed men, aren't afraid of little ol'me, are you?" she challenged with a raised brow.

Combatant one snickered "Why should I bother? I'll have you anyway you look at it." he questioned.

She moved closer, almost rubbing up against him "I find that things are much more enjoyable when all participants are willing, don't you?" she breathed out.

He stepped back, looked at her wickedly, and motioned to the other soldier to let Carter go. Meanwhile, Allura caught Geni's gaze and winked at her. Geni knew what to do and was ready.

Soldier one came up behind Allura, pulled her back against him and whispered in her ear "I'm going to enjoy this".

Allura smiled wildly and furrowed her brow. "So am I." she said as she whipped her head back smashing him against his face, breaking his nose while elbowing him in the stomach and kicking his legs out from underneath him.

The moment he hit the ground, Geni took her shot taking out soldier number two. Allura grabbed the combatants weapons and she and Geni took out the last remaining soldiers in the camp. They managed to find out that the compound was guarded with about 20 soldiers; however, there were only two guarding the look-out post at a time. Before going into the tent to collect their weapon stash for Phase Two, Allura went to check on Carter. He couldn't even look at her.

"Princess…I don't know what to say." He sighed "I don't know why. I just saw them coming behind you and…" he started to speak with a slight shake in his voice.

Allura held up her hand. "Save it Jason. I've heard it all before. I am tired of this nobility bullshit that all you Academy boys carry along with you. A lot of good it did…you're out of the competition and Gen and I are now left to deal with Phase Two without you." The princess said with a slight hiss. Jason just looked at her. He knew she was right and knew that he should have stayed back, just like he knew that Phase Two would be an even bigger challenge without him as he was their explosives master. Allura shook her head in disappointment as Geni approached.

"Hey girl, we're all set. Just strap this on and it should be everything we need. We'll steal the heavy guns off the two guards." She said, rearing to go.

"Sounds good" said Allura as she took the utility belt from Geni and strapped it around her waist as she and Geni began to take off in the direction of enemy base.

"Altair, McClain!" yelled Carter. The girls turned back to look at him. "See you both on the other side." He finished with a genuine smile. The girls smirked and nodded then took off to begin phase two.

"Am I the only one that found all that disturbingly hot?" questioned Liam.

"No, Aussie boy. For once I am going to have to agree with you" said Jeff, slightly bewildered as Leesa came up behind him and smacked him upside the head.

"Ow! Damn Lees! Give me a break…they all agree, right McClain?" said Jeff, pleading for help from his friends.

"That's sick dude! Gen's my little sister!" Lance said with a cringe as the rest of them laughed.

"Shut up asshole, you know what I meant!" snorted Jeff.

Leesa leaned in, wrapped her arms around his neck and whispered "That's OK Jeff. I thought it was pretty hot too." She said in a sultry voice as she threw him a wink. He decided to just stop talking as Ginger giggled uncontrollably behind them.

"Anything you'd like to add to this little chinwag, Kogane?" snorted Liam, noticing that the Captain had taken on his usual stoic stance.

Keith didn't even bother to look back at him and just answered with a simple "No, Lochlan. I don't." and continued to stare at the main screen which now showed Allura and Geni reaching the top of the cliff located directly above the main compound on the enemy base.

"You crazy bitch! You made me climb up this god forsaken thing at lighting speed to prove a point…I just know it!" said Geni, gasping for breath as she reached the top. Allura looked at her and chuckled

"Now-now Gen, I'm not crazy; I just have a different concept of reality." She shrugged "As for the bitch part, well, I do have my moments." She said with a wink and then leaned over to determine just how far up they were in contrast to the roof of the compound, and if anyone would notice them once they jumped. They were in a somewhat caved area which made it darker than it actually was outside; something they would use to their advantage for sure. Allura moved back to Geni.

"So Lulu, what do ya say? Can we do it, the two of us?" asked Geni as she began to regain her breathing. The girl was in great shape, no doubt, but climbing at record pace was not her thing.

Allura looked at her partner in crime. "You bet your ass we can!" she said quite confidently.

"So, what's the plan your Greatness?" smirked Geni . The princess threw her a look. "What?" she responded.

Allura rolled her eyes and went into her version of Commander Mode. "I think that, with your help, I can take out the two watchmen…easy." She began.

"What did you have in mind?" asked Geni with an arched brow.

"Remember that move we did that one night at the Hangar when Gingie and Leesa dared us to climb the rafters?" asked Allura.

Back in the observation room, all eyes darted to Ginger and Leesa. The girls looked up at the ceiling and ignored them.

Geni laughed "Hell yeah I remember! So- you want to go all gymnastic-ninja-spiderwoman on them." she smiled.

"Exactly." She confirmed with a sneaky grin. "I figure once we're on the roof we can recreate our little demonstration. I'll need you for leverage once I'm over so you're gonna have to latch onto something for balance." Said Allura as they both peaked over the cliff and onto the top of the roof.

"There. You see the series of banisters spaced out over the edge of the roof?" said Geni and Allura nodded. "If we time it and space it just right, I can land in between those and hook my legs once you go over. Should give me the leverage I need for you to get the job done." She said with self-assurance.

"What if you position yourself near there from the start? Here, look at where the watchmen are. Now, we need the two banisters to the right of the center in order for me to have a chance to take them both out at once." She said as Geni began to count out and map the location in her head

"Got it." Geni affirmed.

"OK, once I take them out, we grab their guns and make our way to the front of the compound. After I see exactly what we're up against, you follow my lead. Just be aware and for the love of whatever god you believe in…follow my orders!" she said, boldly.

"Girl, I can assure you, I have no intention to try and hero it out…really. I will do whatever you say… within reason of course" Geni assured her with a wink.

Allura smiled at her friend, then took a deep breath which she let out slowly. "Here we are, Gen. Somehow, it's always down to the two of us. You ready?" she asked.

"Hell yeah! Let's go show these bastards what we bad ass chicks are made of!" said Geni as she put an arm around Allura.

"Alright, let's go." she smiled.

Allura got up and catapulted of the cliff landing on the roof with the grace of a true panther, followed by Geni. The girls laid low and made their way to the edge of the roof right over the two watchmen. Geni positioned herself between the banisters she counted, facing forward. Allura moved back several feet in order to gain the momentum she needed to pull off the stunt. Geni wasn't kidding. They were going to go all gymnastic on them. Every step had to be executed perfectly in order for it to work. Geni looked back at the princess and nodded that she was ready. Allura moved into position. In the observation room, one could hear a pin drop. Everyone was afraid to breath. Aside from Leesa and Ginger, no one had a clue as to what Allura and Geni were planning to do. Then it happened.

Allura ran at Geni's back at full speed, placed her hands on Geni's shoulders and catapulted over her while Geni, at the same time, latched onto her arms, hit the ground and secured her feet against the banister while Allura went over the side and used her legs to snap the neck of the first watchmen and then kicked the other one unconscious as she landed on the ground like the lioness she was. Once in the clear, Geni flipped off the roof and joined her. The entire stunt was pulled off in a matter of seconds and was executed flawlessly.

"What the hell" whispered Keith.

Lance rubbed the back of his head as he leaned close to Keith and asked, quietly. "Uh, who the hell taught her that?" asked Lance, still in shock from what he saw.

"Fuck if I know" gasped Keith who was in shock as well. She sure as hell didn't learn it from me he thought to himself. The rest of the room was ecstatic as they waited to see what the girls would do next.

Allura and Geni stripped the guards of their weapons and magazines- modern day laser equivalents of the AK47. They made sure the weapons were activated and set as they moved on. Staying as close to the wall as possible, Allura and Geni made their way around to the front of the compound undetected. Allura halted Geni as she carefully scanned the area in front of the entrance to the control room. She noticed that more than half of the soldiers had gathered together and were standing in close proximity of one another. Dumb move she thought to herself and shook her head. Well, there mistake is our reward.

She turned and looked at Geni. "Dumbasses have all gathered together in the center of the compound. Well, Blazin' McClain- how do you want to play this?"

"I figure we use a couple high-potency grenades to wipe most of them out, then we take out what's left of them with these babies." smirked Red's little sis as she held up her gun. Grinning mischievously, she continued "Like I always say, there are no personal problems that cannot be solved by using high explosives." Allura chuckled and just shook her head.

Leesa and Ginger were pumped full of excitement. Allura and Geni were making all of the Alliance women look good. Phase Two was close to completion and it would be achieved by two women. Come on girls, you can do it! Leesa thought as a little prayer to her close friends. Even Liam leaned forward in his seat in anticipation. Here we go thought Ginger, biting her nails as the grenades launched.

The room was engulfed in sounds of explosions and chaos. Altair and McClain had found cover waiting for the smoke and fire to clear somewhat before moving in. The two teammates had managed to take down a bit more than half of the soldiers with the grenades. The room watched as they went in with their weapons drawn, taking out anyone who came their way. The compound was engulfed in smoke from the constant rounds of ammunition- then, it happened.

"Shit Vievi!" yelled Lance as his father came to stand next to him, trying to figure out what had just happened along with everyone else in the room. The cameras had lost focus and the techs were trying to locate the girls on the secondary screens.

Keith slammed his fist in the wall "Damn it! Where are they?"

Suddenly everyone was on edge.
