Same Day,
Caroline just stood there staring down at Elena, while Elena kept staring back at her. Elena could not believe what she was seeing, to a point it all made sense, but then it didn't
"Caroline…what does this mean?" Elena asked while looking up at Caroline.
"So you remembered…when did this happen?" Caroline asked in a worried tone.
"Yesterday…how is this possible?" She asked.
"Very easy…now hush…she's coming back." She watched as Caroline craned her neck to the side, like she was listening, but Elena could not hear anything.
"What are you talking about…no one is coming." Before either of them could speak, both Alaric and the nurse came walking into the nurse's office.
"What are you doing here Ms. Forbes?" The nurse asked.
"Oh…I just wanted to check on her." Caroline mumbled, while retreating back to her persona everyone knew her as.
"Mrs. Jenkins told me you bumped your head…how are you feeling?" Alaric asked while moving closer to Elena.
"Better…if it wasn't for Care…I would still be sprawled out on floor in the hallway." She laughed while sitting up finally.
"Thank you Caroline." Alaric said with a smile.
"Your welcome…if you would like…because me and Elena were supposed to be studying…I can just take her home like planned."
"Yes that would help...are you sure your okay?" He asked while turning his attention back to Elena.
"Yes…I'm sure…I have had worse." She tried to smile. "May I leave now?"
"Sure…just put some ice on it when you get home." Mrs. Jenkins said with a smile before walking towards her desk.
"Thank you Mrs. Jenkins…come on Lena," Alaric said while helping her up. They made their way out into the hall. "Remember put some ice on it…it looks like it is going to hurt tomorrow or maybe later," He said while faintly touching the bump that was forming on her head, but she quickly pulled back. "Sorry."
"I will." Elena replied.
"Come on Lena…we have so much to do." Caroline called from down the hall.
"Thank you again Caroline." Alaric said before walking back into his classroom.
"So are you going to tell me?" Elena asked while finally catching up with her.
"Just come on." Caroline said while making a beeline to her car.
"Care…or should I call you something else now," Elena shouted. "Tell me." She shouted more as she stood there watching Caroline open her car door. Before she knew what was happening, Caroline was right in front of her. It surprised her so much, because she could not understand how Caroline made it towards her so quickly.
"Will you shut up…someone could be listening and I will tell you…just get in the car," Caroline shouted. Elena just stood there rooted to the ground and kept staring back at Caroline. "Oh come on." Caroline sighed before grabbing and dragging her towards her car, not caring if someone saw. She unlocked the door quickly and shoved Elena inside. Elena tried to scream and push Caroline away, but she was too strong and she did not know how she got that strong within just a couple of minutes.
"Okay…we're in the car…now explain why you just manhandled me?" Elena said through clenched teeth.
"No I will not," Caroline growled while turning around to face Elena. "Its too open…someone could be listening-"
"Who?" She shouted while cutting Caroline off. Caroline just sighed and turned her right turn single on.
"I can't tell you…not yet…I have to drop you off and then I need to go see someone…last time I told you anything…my mother exiled me." Caroline tried to explain. She could not tell Elena anything, until she talked to her partner in crime.
"Alexios?" For some reason the name just slipped out of her mouth, before she could think.
"How do you know that name…I never told you about him," Caroline paused. "He wasn't even there during that life…who I'm really talking too…how much of Alexis have you accepted?" She asked in a serious tone.
"I just accepted her and she told me I would remember slowly and I had a dream…about a man and woman traveling by camels in the desert and they were carrying a baby, they kept talking about some woman who was coming after them and the baby…the man's name was Alexios…so is that who you're going to see...isn't it?" She asked.
"Yes," Caroline snapped. "I should have known…I should have known when I woke up and it felt like someone was probing my mind…but I didn't think anything of it…because it was just me and you…this isn't good Lena." She said while shaking her.
"What are you talking about…are you trying to tell me I entered your mind while you slept?" She asked.
"Yes…that's what I am saying…now enough of this…its too open…she could be listening in…she always a few steps a head of us and I need to talk to Alex…he needs to know," Caroline paused while pulling the car up to the Gilbert's house. "Don't tell anyone before I come to pick you up later."
"Not even Damon?" Elena asked, wondering if Damon even knew that Caroline was actually Mau.
"Not even him…he knows nothing…don't you remember that…you weren't suppose to tell him anything…I told you that…he's not of our kind." Caroline said in a serious tone.
"What kind?" Elena asked in worried tone.
"Elena…don't speak a word of this…until I come back to pick you up and then we will talk about it." Caroline said while unlocking the car door.
"Okay…but you got to promise to tell me everything…and I won't tell Damon…until you tell me what is going on." Elena said while getting out of the car.
"Good…I'll be back soon…shouldn't take long…Alex isn't a big talker…he just likes to yell and tell me that he told me so," Caroline laughed. "Now go into the house and I'll be back soon."
"Why do you sound like my mother?"
"Alexis," Caroline shouted before seeing that Elena did not like to be called that. "Fine…Elena…I have helped raise you along side Alex for more than a thousand years and I will explain everything later…in a safer environment."
"Fine." Elena huffed before quickly shutting the car door and storming up to the house.
Later on,
Before she could worry that Caroline had run for the hills and wasn't coming back, Caroline was pulling up outside her house. Alaric was not even home yet; he was still at the school working on the exams for his students. Elena was a little happy for that, because she didn't have to mention why she wasn't with Caroline studying.
"Jer…I'm going with Care…she's here." Elena called over her shoulder.
"Okay…just don't run into anything else." He shouted from the kitchen.
"Your so funny." She quickly made her way down to Caroline's car. Caroline was sitting in her car and not looking too happy. She was not happy with what Alex was telling her and she did not know if she could do that Elena, but she also knew that he was right.
"Come on." Caroline said while turning her car back on.
"Where is Alexios?" Elena said while getting into the car.
"Annoying Damon…you won't meet him yet…just to make sure she doesn't find out about him…he doesn't want to be exiled to this place…he's only living here because of you." Caroline explained in a nice way.
"What do you mean this place?" She asked.
"All of that will be explained soon." Caroline said while driving towards the one place she knew that she could control.
Finally coming up to a forest area, Caroline just pulled the car off to the side of road. She watched as Caroline got out of the car and began her way to the trees.
"Are you coming?" Caroline called over her shoulder. Elena quickly got her seatbelt off of her and she darted towards where she saw Caroline. She followed Caroline into the woods for a good half of a mile before Caroline came to a stop beside a large stump with weird markings on it. Elena stopped, a few feet away from her. "You don't have to act like you hate me."
"I don't hate you…I barely know you." She whispered.
"You know me…you just have to remember and Lena…I know you…right down to the birthmark that looks like a cat on the bottom of your right foot," Elena eyes got really big and she stumbled backwards a bit. "Don't be afraid of me Lena…I would never hurt you."
"How do you know about my birthmark…many people don't even see it?" She said in a scared voice, she was a little nervous that Caroline or Mau, who ever she was would know about that.
"Would you really like to know…or would it be too soon?" Caroline asked, with a faint smirk on her lips.
"Fine," She sighed. "Will you explain everything to me…you act like we are different."
"Because we are." Caroline mumbled. "Come sit…while I make sure this area is guarded." She said while standing and beginning to chant, but Elena could not make out what she was saying, only that she was speaking in Ancient Egyptian. When Caroline finally stopped, she took the seat beside Elena.
"What is this place?" She asked.
"This place is where I can communicate with certain people back home...only in a blue moon really." Caroline explained.
"Where's home?" She asked while turning to look at her friend.
"Lena…I was talking to Alex and well…he thinks that we shouldn't tell you everything…my mother last time exiled me to earth for telling you." Caroline whispered.
"Earth…where the hell are you from?" Elena shouted. "Are you trying to tell me you're an alien?"
"God no…but people here on earth sure believe in them…because of my people…we can't seem to stop meddling in the humans lives." Caroline explained while laughing a bit.
"Humans?" She shouted. "Okay…just tell me…what are you and who are you?" She shouted more.
"Well…for one I'm not human…like yourself-"
"What." She yelled while cutting Caroline off.
"Elena," Caroline sighed. "Your soul is like me…but your body…the body that your soul was placed in…the one I picked out for you…is human…its very confusing I know and I wish I could explain everything to you...but I just can't."
"Wait…so what about you?" She asked.
"I haven't died yet…your soul has…I am just using this body as a way to watch over you...just Alex is."
"That makes no sense." Elena said while shaking her head.
"Lena," Caroline sighed. "I can't tell you much…without my mother finding out," She tried to explain. "My mother…is your aunt…your real mother's sister…not the one you were raised with in Pella," She paused. "I suppose where we are from…they are considered princesses almost…I was given to you on the day you were born…just like Alexios was…our parents decided we would be your protectors…your guardians...because we were that important back home," She paused. "From the moment your mother found out she was pregnant with you…your father's mistress if you like…was after you…she wanted you dead…for the love your father showed your mother-"
"Who is this person?" She asked while cutting Caroline off again.
"If I were to tell you…then you would figure everything out and you wouldn't believe me." Caroline tried to explain, she just couldn't tell Elena who the woman was, it would be way to obvious who she was and who her parents were and what everything meant.
"Try me." She challenged. She just wanted to know what the hell was going on and she was about scream if Caroline did not tell her.
"Elena…I can't…Alex as decided I can't tell you…my hands are tied on this one…because not only is my life at risk for telling you…so is his…and he wants to be able to go back…if I we're tell you…we would both be exiled."
"Wait a minute…in the dream…you kept talking about how my real father was Greek and my real mother was Egyptian…what does that mean?" She asked.
"Elena…your father and Alex are different than me and your mother…just from different cultures," Caroline sighed. "And your smart…think about it…Greek…Egyptian…two different cultures...your father he loved war or still does for that matter…your mother is considered a protector herself…my own mother deals with love…just like the woman that's after you…me and Alex didn't get our parents gifts…but it seems you did…just think about it Elena…it will come to you." Elena just set there while trying to figure out what the hell Caroline's riddle meant, but was not coming up with anything.
"Give me your name…a family member's name…my parents names…anything?" She shouted.
"Well…my name is Lysandra Mau…after your mother and the Greek culture…Alexios's name is Alexios…your actually named after him," Caroline said with a smile. "I can't give you the other names…it would be too obvious," She paused while looking at Elena fallen face. "What does Mau mean in Egyptian?" That threw Elena for a loop, what did Caroline's name have to do with anything.
"What does that have to do with anything?" She asked.
"Everything…because I was named after your mother…when you figure out what my name means in the Egyptian culture…it may bring back your memories." Caroline said while grabbing a hold of Elena's neck and pushing her forward with such strength that Elena had no time to do anything about it. She moved Elena's hair to one side and then ran her pointer finger down the back of Elena's neck, where an ankh that looked like it had been tattooed there, was glaring back at her.
"What are you doing?" Elena shouted while trying to shove Caroline off of her.
"I was afraid of this." Caroline mumbled.
"Afraid of what and how the hell did you become so strong." She yelled.
"I have always been stronger and quicker than the humans I am around...I just hide and its your powers...they are coming back and in full force…all of my kind has this symbol…well except one and he as his own kind of mark…it appears on the back of their necks…just like you…I have one…but its faded now…because my powers aren't as strong…yours is as black as night and I fear that may be a problem."
"What symbol?" Elena wondered out loud.
"Here," Caroline said while digging through her purse and retrieving two mirrors and handing one of them to Elena, while she angled the other mirror right above the ankh. Elena just gasped when she saw it, because that had never been on her skin before.
"Is that what I think it is?" She asked in a panic voice.
"Yeah…it's the ankh…the symbol for life in my culture and yours…its a way of knowing our kind and knowing when one as came into their power…it just can't be," Caroline said while shaking her head. "Your parents made sure to bind your powers…to make you human…so you would be protected…it worked for a couple years…until she found you again…she's the reason that man found you in the first life…the reason your parents are gone now."
"She killed my mom and dad…then why am I alive?" She asked while crying from hearing that her parents might have been killed.
"She didn't foresee you having your powers that protected you…your not just like your mother…you also have your dad's gifts too…this isn't good Lena." Caroline said while shaking her head.
"I wish you would just tell me...what powers are you talking about?" She cried.
"I can't tell you...this is serious Lena...this hasn't happened before...you have to remember…remember and then I will fill in the gaps," Caroline tried to explain. "Your smart…you can figure it out…now let me see your back…pull up your shirt."
"Why?" She asked in a worried tone.
"Because…I want to see if you have the same mark as Alex." Caroline said while pulling Elena's shirt up, to show the lower part of her back and her rip cage. In tiny black Ancient Greek letters were sketched into her skin over her ribs. They were so tiny that only one with very good eyesight, and that being better than a humans, would be able to see the black letters.
"What is that?" Elena cried while touching her skin.
"She'll really want you dead now…especially if she finds out that you have your daddies marking and not even your brothers and sisters got his marking…they always had hers"
"I have siblings?" She asked.
"One brother on your mother's side and then a lot of brothers and sisters on you father's side...he couldn't stay away from the women." Caroline tried to explain while trying not to laugh at the thought of Elena's real father. "None of them know about you…and it will stay that way…because more than likely they will choose her side and your brother...from your mothers side...he does not need to know...it is protect too...because I fear he would try to protect you like I am doing."
"All of this does not make any sense…your just confusing more." Elena sighed while putting her head in her hands.
"I'm trying not to Lena…I promise…the only thing I want to do…is protect you…that as been my only job from the beginning…me Alex as always seen ourselves as your parents…because your real parents couldn't be your parents…because their joining was frowned abound…your whole exists was never meant to happen."
"I wish you could tell me." Elena cried, because she was just exhausted from not knowing anything.
"I wish I could tell you myself…please just remember." Caroline said while pulling her into a hug and holding her close.
"Is Alexios Klaus or maybe Tyler…I know something was going on with you and Klaus?" She asked, while trying to change the subject. She could not think about it anymore, it was making her brain feel like it was going to exploded.
"It's neither of them and you won't figure it out...you don't need to know my business yet with Klaus or Tyler." Caroline said while pulling Elena closer to her and placing her head on top of Elena's, while rubbing her back, just like a mother would do. "Just remember Lena…remember what I told you when you were Audrey…remember what Mau means…it will make it easier on me…I can't let Alex down…he wants to go back so badly…I'm the one that as pulled him into this mess when he told me I should have just left your spirit alone the first time…but I just couldn't and I can't let him suffer again because of me Lena…please just remember." Elena just cried while holding on tighter to Caroline, there was something about Caroline now that made her feel like she could trust her and she did not know why.
To my fellow reviewers, I am so glad that you guys enjoyed the last chapter and I am glad all of you were surprised that Caroline was Mau and Alexios is still not fully introduced in this one, but soon he will be and it will surprise everyone. Please keep up your reviews, I love all the reviews I get. Just remember, no flames, but please review. I am also wondering how many of you can figure out what Caroline/Mau really is and Alexios. I have a game, whoever can figure out Caroline's riddle, can ask me any question about this story and I will tell them honestly, except for how it ends. That would just ruin everything, but I want to see if anyone can figure out Caroline's riddle. It means something really important to the storyline. Also can anyone tell me who Elena/Alexis's real mother and real father really is.

jairem: Thank you for your review. Yes, Caroline is Mau. Her parents did happen for a reason, but it was kill her off by the person that is after, not so she could come to Mystic Falls. Its halfway explained in this chapter. Yes, that is very true, everyone from their past lives have gathered in one place, its all part of my plan. Only people gathered from the past that I have mentioned, is Stefan, he was Lindsey before and I believe that is the only one I have mentioned except Caroline who Mau and whoever Alexios turns out to be. There is a few others, but they will be mentioned later in the story. She didn't accept Damon yet because she was confused and because he is dating Katherine.

Katherine and Stefan both hold important roles, but they have nothing to do with Mau or Alexios. Yes, Katherine and Damon will have problems to come, and it may be in the hand of something Elena does. Stefan and Elena's break up will be interesting, I promise.
