Edward and I were kissing and talking when my doorbell rang. Charlie was upstairs asleep, so I opened the door, surprised to see Jacob standing there. I hadn't seen him since the summer, however we still sometimes talked on the phone. He looked slightly taller, and his hair was cut short, set spiky atop of his head while he grinned at me. "Hey, Bella."
"Um… hey, Jake," I mumbled, then casted a look behind me. Edward was standing now, a mixture of confusion and irritation etched on his face. I looked back at Jake, who also notices Edward. His smile dimmed as he met my eyes. "What're you doing here?"
"Well, we haven't seen each other since the summer," he said quietly. "I was just… you know, in the neighborhood. Mind if I come in?"
Shaking my head dumbly, I stepped aside and he strode past the threshold. I closed the door, swallowing as I turned to face the two boys standing in my living room. Boy, Charlie will have a riot if he comes down here. "Um, Edward, this is my friend Jacob. Jake… this is Edward, my, um… my boyfriend," I said.
"I thought you said you didn't like him," Jake said. I rolled my eyes. "I didn't say I didn't like him, I said he upset me. There's a difference."
"It's not very big."
"Whatever, Jake," I sighed. "Is there any reason you're here?" Crap, that sounded ruder than I intended it to be.
"Yeah, is there?" Edward said.
Jacob frowned, obviously hurt, and I instantly felt bad. "I mean…"
"No, I get it. You have someone else now," he said. "It's just that when you didn't have someone, I was there for you. But you obviously don't want to be there for me."
"I should go," Edward sighed, bending down to pick up his baseball cap and backpack. My eyes widened. "No, you should stay," I said. He stopped, and I looked between both of them. I'd known Jake less than Edward, but admittedly, I loved them both, and I didn't want to damage my relationship with them.
But, how could I let Edward leave, if he was my boyfriend? Aren't boyfriend's more important than friends?
"Just call me later," Edward compromised. Before I could argue, he'd walked over to me and pressed a kiss to my lips. I was surprised, blinking at his closed lids, and Edward pulled back. He looked at Jake, then turned towards the steps to get my father.
