For the record, the karaoke will not be full lyrics, I will be highlighting certain parts of the song, certain things thats might be important. There is also a little surprise at the end of this party. I dont think I need to say this, but I dont own any of these songs, and would prefer if Fall Out Boy, Natalia Kills and JJ Demon not sue me.
Minoru took the mic, a small smile spreading on his face, they went through the effort to put this together, might as well have some fun. He went over to the karaoke machine, going to the back of it to select a song. He was expecting a list of songs, instead he was greeted by the Youtube home page.
"The hell is this?" Kisara shrugged her shoulders.
"It was like that when we got here, hooked up to wifi and everything." Minoru furrowed his eyebrows, then shrugged. It's not like they could do anything with this at the moment. Looking at the search bar, Minoru thought of all the songs he knew, he smiled, finally settling on a song he and his brother have fond memories of. The screen shifted as it appeared to switch to a karaoke style page simply saying "Press start when ready." Looking at the microphone, there was a small button simply saying start.
"Subtle Monokuma, subtle." He tapped the microphone, getting everyones attention and leading them to their seats.
"I assume you want me to sing now, huh?" A quiet laughter can be heard from the small crowd, sitting in the folding chairs and tables they had set up.
"Must have been hard to move all that stuff." Minoru thought as he pressed start. It was all or nothing time. The lyrics appeared on the screen in front of him, he began, his eyes closed, trying to feel the song.
"The DA is dressed to the nines, in the mirror he practices all his lines... to his closing arguments 12 hearts beat in favor, I'm guessing that he read the morning paper: the headline reads "The Man Hangs" but the jury doesn't..."
There was alot of history behind this song for Minoru, this song played on the radio as they left for the verdict for his brother's first trial with him at the bench helping him. They had a very bad start, but they might have turned it around in the very end, they eventually won the case, putting a serial rapist behind bars.
"Case open, Case shut but you could pay to close it like a casket. Baby boy can't lift his head-ached head, Isn't it tragic?"
Minoru let song flow from his heart, his adoptive father always told him to put his heart into everything he did, even when that thing involved his voice cracking several times within the song. He felt the song slow to a halt, with the signal being Monokuma's sick laughter that the song was over. Minoru let them finish clapping, bowing over-dramatically, before bringing the mic back to speak.
"So who's next?" Kisara had a small smirk on her face, climbing onto the stage with the grace of a cat, taking the microphone from Minoru.
"I volunteered you for this gig, might as well perform myself." Minoru climbed off the stage and took his seat next to Kinnosuke, looking around, he noticed everyone was still sitting with their 'clics'. Kinnosuke looked over, his smirk changing into a kind smile.
"You're not a bad singer, Minoru. Is that a song that reminds you of your brother?" Minoru frowned.
"I prefer not being read Kinnosuke." Kinnosuke's expression changed to one of feigned hurt.
"Is it so wrong for a man to guess?" Minoru couldn't tell if he was just messing around, or being sarcastic, so he chose to ignore the prior statement and watch as Kisara hit the start button. The intro went for a bit, before Kisara brought the mic a bit closer to her mouth and began.
"I'm not Snow White, but I'm lost inside this forest. I'm not Red Riding Hood, but I think the wolves have got me. Don't want your stilettos! I'm not, not Cinderella.. I don't need a knight, so baby take off all your armor!
You be the beast, and I'll be the beauty beauty. Who needs true love, as long as you love me truly?I want it all, but I want ya more! Will you wake me up boy if I bite your poison apple?"
Minoru watched her sing, he'd heard alot of songs, but never this one. She was putting quite a bit of passion into this song. He tapped is foot and leaned his head back, closing his eyes to imagine what the music video for this would look like. Kinnosuke looked over at him, curious.
"What are you doing?" Minoru opened one eye, looking over to him.
"You have to be able to feel the song, music is actually one of the best therapists I've ever had." Kinnosuke smirked and leaned back in his chair.
"I'm not going to pretend to understand, let's just listen to Kisara's song." Minoru could have sworn that Kinnosuke had a hint of actual humor in his voice, was he opening himself up? Looking back to Kisara, he missed the second bridge, only hearing the chorus.
Take me to take me to take me to Wonderland, Take me to take me to take me to Wonderland
Take me to take me to take me to Wonderland,Take me to Wonderland, take me to Wonderland.
Kisara opened her eyes, looking up from the microphone. Everyone began to clap, Hiro standing up, clapping the loudest.
"That is how a relationship is supposed to be!" Everyone looking at him, slightly confused. Minoru made a guess that it had something to do with the meaning of the song. Shrugging it off, he smiled as Kisara approached.
"Not a bad song." She smiled and shook her head, looking over at Hiro giving her a thumbs up.
"I think he's the only one who knows the meaning of the song." Minoru laughed, looking at Kisara, who was giving him a questioning look. He rubbed the back of his mohawk sheepishly as she shook her head. Minoru looked around the room, wondering if anyone was going to do another song, or if this would simply turn into social time. He noticed one seat empty, then smiled as he tilted his head back.
"I figured you would be up for this as well Tomoya." Tomoya gave a bright grin, clearly glad to have an audience.
"You know it dawg, even in this prison, they can't crush my flow!" He took the mic and shouted into it.
"Hope's Peak Academy! Are you ready?" Hiro put his hands to his mouth, shouting from the crowd.
"No, not even!" Tomoya ignored him as he hit the start button, his expression getting much more serious. Minoru sat down with a smile. He wasn't going to say it out loud, but he was actually a pretty big fan of Tomoya, and hearing the song he was singing, he knew what this would be. This was the same rap he did a cover for after his father's passing.
We're saying RIP to everyone we know! Our glass is now half empty,
But the tears will overflow
And still we're screaming RIP to everyone we love! Is everyone below us mad at everyone above?
Minoru looked on with intensity, Tomoya's actions while on the stage were much more energetic, and he appeared to be putting quite a bit of emotion into this. He was not as passionate during prior performances, what made this any different?
We still love you, we will miss you
We still love you Is it blissful?
We still love you We will miss you
We still love you Is it bliss?
Taiki, my father
I call to your spirit!
Answer!
I know you can hear it!
Minoru smiled, but it faded as soon as he looked at Tomoya's eyes, seeing the tears begin to well up in his eyes. He was really getting into this song. The talk of spirits caused Minoru to shudder, swearing he saw Rosine in the corner of his eye. The song ended, with Minoru intercepting on his way down.
"That was definitely alot more emotional that your previous performances." Tomoya looks at him, then nods, in his regular dialect.
"Well after my last concert, some of my fans and critics said my emotions on stage were a bit too lacking. So after reading the reviews, I took their advice." Minoru nodded. Tomoya suddenly realized what Minoru's previous statement meant.
"You actually listen to my music?" Minoru shrugged smiling.
"I dabble in alot of music, your rapping are just a part of the bigger picture of my musical tastes." Tomoya nodded, smiling. The group gathered in a circle, simply talking to each other, until Monokuma appeared on stage.
"All right kids settle down, settle down. There is one more song for the night. Allow me to present to you, the mastermind!"
Wait, what?!
After so many delays, we now have the chapter up! This was written quite a while ago, albeit a bit differently, but all it needed done to it was editing, and my computer crashed, losing not only that chapter, but chapters leading all the way up to pre trial 5! Yeah, so I might have cried a bit after that, then apparently this computer thinks pulling up lyrics is equal to running a game at 60FPS, so that took forever as well. In the end, this is the results, sadly I dont know how to feel about this, leave what you think in the reviews and maybe how I can make it better. See you guys next chapter where we get a slight idea of who the mastermind is.
