Kindred Spirits Reunited

Author Note – Thank you for the reviews, favorites, and follows. I wanted to give a particular thanks to JPElles for such insightful reviews. You have been a true inspiration as I write this tale.
Story Note – There was something that had been bugging me about this story for days and I finally realized what it was. I made an error that throws it all off. So you don't have to go back I will tell you the change I made that way you don't have to go back to find it.
Sailor Pluto explains when asked that Nehelenia and Tristian had generals with armies in place on the other kingdoms. They all attacked simultaneously.
When Nehelenia and her army attacked the moon and she battles with Queen Serenity. Nehelenia used black lightening to fight her and Queen Serenity used the crystal as a shield. It was not a battle like what Princess Serenity and Nehelenia are having now. Queen Serenity lowers her shield and allows herself to be killed. That way Nehelenia does not have to reveal her possession of the dark crystal which she would have to do to fight off the silver crystal's power.
I have also made a smallchange to the ending of chapter 25. I would give that a quick read before starting this chapter so it makes sense.
Disclaimer - You know the drill…I do not own any of the original characters of Sailor Moon or Marvel. A few other characters to be introduced are of my own creation. Please ask if you would like to use them in your own stories.
Chapter Twenty-Six
Princess Serenity narrowed her eyes pouring more of her energy into the silver crystal. Nehelenia smiled as she felt herself overpowering her niece. Princess Serenity cried out as Nehelenia's dark crystal overcame her power. She felt the pain as the black energy filled her body but like her mother she refused to give Nehelenia the satisfaction of her screaming anymore. The light of the silver crystal disappeared and she fell to the ground motionless. Nehelenia grinned as she looked at her still body. "Finally after all this time I am queen of the moon and the silver crystal is mine at last."
Her dark crystal still floated in her palms and just as she was about to return it to its setting on her forehead she gasped at the sight before her. With a groan Princess Serenity was slowly standing up trying to ignore the searing pain in her body. She turned around and looked at Nehelenia who looked back at her in utter shock. "You were struck by the power of the dark crystal and you are still live. It is not possible!" She screamed out in supreme frustration. "WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO KILL YOU!?"
Princess Serenity said nothing as the silver crystal glowed once more rising from the ground and taking its place between her palms. "You will find my will to live is considerably stronger than your desire to kill me." Nehelenia noticed her eyes shine with pity for a moment. "You showed me what it is like to be overcome by my own darkness. I know I threatened that you would pay for what you have done with your life however we are connected by blood and as much as I despise you that makes us family. As such I feel I must give you an opportunity to stop this conflict. Loki was able to find the path to redemption and even though you are responsible for not only my mother's death but the deaths of countless others I will help you find your way back to the light. All you have to do is let go of the dark crystals power and allow the silver crystal's cleansing power heal you."
Nehelenia took a deep breath closing her eyes. When she opened them Princess Serenity saw they were still black as coal as she grinned. "Such sweet words. Too bad they are wasted on me." Nehelenia sneered. "Your grandmother knew I was born with darkness in my heart which is why she banished me to Nemesis when I was a teen. I was treated like something nasty and someone to be feared since the day I was born while my sister was doted on and promised the throne. I had planned to kill my sister from the time we were children and take the thrown as my own. Then what happens, you were born. With you next in line and then your offspring I knew the throne would never be mine. That is why on the day of your christening I revealed myself and cursed you. I swore to all that you would never live to be queen and I will see to it you never are. Save your pity and useless offers of redemption. I have no use for either."
"Very well." Princess Serenity replied with a hint of sadness in her voice. She closed her eyes as the silver crystal shined brightly in her palms and she felt renewed energy as her power began to build. When she opened them her royal blue eyes were hardened ready for battle. "MOON CRYSTAL POWER!" A silver stream of energy shot out of the silver crystal towards Nehelenia.
"You are truly a fool. I have already beaten you once. This time I will make sure I eliminate you as I did your mother. BLACK CRYSTAL POWER!" A black stream of energy sped towards Princess Serenity and met the silver crystals as the battle of the moons began once more.
As Princess Serenity focused her energy into the silver crystal visions drifted through her mind. She thought of Ami, Raye, Lita, Mina, Sailor Pluto, the outer scouts, Luna, her mother, and finally Loki. She had to honor the ones that had perished and protect who still lived no matter what. Her will to survive this battle was strong but she knew she had poured all the energy she could into the silver crystal without killing herself. Yet she could still feel Nehelenia's power overcoming her own and wasn't sure she would survive another full on hit from the dark crystal.
She closed her eyes and immediately knew what she had to do. She was uncertain it would work without the princesses of the other planet kingdoms by her side but she knew she had no choice. "I call upon Silver Crystal Planet Power aid me in my quest to rid the universe of evil." She took a deep breath as she felt Nehelenia's power overcoming her own. It was now or never. "Mercury grant me your power of water and ice."
She saw a sliver of her silver energy stream fade away and was replaced by a blue glow as Mercury's power was added to her own. She smiled and continued. "Venus supply me with your power of cleansing light."
An orange glow connected with her power. "Mars join me with the power of your blazing fire."
A bright red beam of energy appeared. "Jupiter aid me with your power of white lightening."
A dark green stream answered her call. Princess Serenity could feel her power growing stronger and slowly beginning to push Nehelenia's back. "NO! I will not be defeated." Nehelenia screamed and focused all of her remaining energy into the dark crystal.
Wind began to blow around them and pieces of debris were lifted off the ground surrounding them as they were both lifted into the air. "Saturn help me rain down destruction with your power!" Princess Serenity cried out.
A deep purple united with the other planets. "Uranus make the ground quake by lending me your power!"
Navy Blue merged itself to the stream of colors. "Neptune bring me the power of your submerging deep waters."
Sea green glowed next to the navy blue. Princess Serenity could feel tremendous power coursing through her and into the silver crystal. She closed her eyes as she called upon the final planet. "Pluto provide me with your power to remove evil from time and space."
Princess Serenity opened her eyes as she felt the final planet respond to her call and a black glow appeared completing the power. "SILVER…CRYSTAL…PLANET…POWER…UNITE!"
The silver crystal between her palms glowed brighter than she had ever seen as she felt the planets unite as one. A final burst of rainbow colored energy shot out of the silver crystal blasting through Nehelenia's attack decimating her black energy and shattering the dark crystal. Nehelenia's black eyes became lifeless as she felt the dark crystal shatter. She was silent as the energy of the planets penetrated her body and she felt the blaze of Princess Serenity's power.
Princess Serenity looked on as Nehelenia's body began to turn to ash and soon she was nothing more than dust blowing in the thrashing winds. Princess Serenity smiled at her victory but her smile faded when she saw that the shards of the dark crystal were still floating where Nehelenia had been. The dark crystal shards began to speed toward her and one by one entered the silver crystal. Princess Serenity tried to stop them fearing what they would do to the silver crystal. She was surprised as she felt them merge with the crystal that it not only remained silver but pure. She could feel no darkness in it. As what she thought was the last shard merged with the crystal she attempted to stop its power. Her eyes widened when she found that the crystal would not answer her command.
Princess Serenity could feel the crystal's power continuing to grow stronger, willing itself forward. The wind began to thrash harder around her and her eyes widened with horror as she realized the crystal was no longer in her control. White round beams of light started to continuously shoot out of it. She could feel the crystals will to cleanse the universe as the beams of white light got closer to its targets.
Author Note – Some events with Loki are taking place at the same time Sailor Moon is battling Nehelenia.
Loki fell out of the portal and landed on the ground with a thud. He stood quickly and looked around analyzing his surroundings trying to figure out where Nehelenia had sent him. He turned around and immediately recognized the white ivy curtain leading to Serenity's meadow. He was back on Earth. He was about to call to Heimdall but was unsure he would be able to get him back to the moon.
Then the answer dawned on him. He smiled, in her haste to be rid of him Nehelenia had sent him to the one realm where he had a direct way back to Serenity. He took a step and before he could take another he was caught off guard when a circular object hit him in the chest throwing him backwards through a tree. He grunted as he hit the ground and shook his head as he stood turning around. He saw Captain America catch his shield and glared. He was quickly surrounded by Hawkeye, Agent Romanoff and a dozen shield agents. "I do not have time for this." He growled under his breath.
"Make time." Captain America remarked as he walked forward standing face to face with Loki. "I knew Thor was insane to think they could keep you in Asgard."
"Do you think I would come back to this blasted realm if I had a choice? This is the last place I want to be at the moment. If you'll excuse me. " Loki tried to step forward and heard every gun being prepared to fire. He smirked. He had no need to concern himself with their bullets now. He saw Captain America readying himself to fight him. "I did not come here to harm anyone." Loki tried to assure them.
Hawkeye and Agent Romanoff walked up so they were on either side of Captain America. Hawkeye huffed under his breath. "You also never led an alien army to try to claim earth as your own or enslaved people making them your personal puppets."
"Thor isn't here to protect you this time and if you think we are letting you get away again you can forget it." Agent Romanoff hissed as she pointed her guns at him with her fingers itching to pull the triggers.
Loki saw the other agents circling him. He sighed, there was no other way out. He narrowed his eyes. He could sense his body was already half healed from his earlier battles with the Jotuns and two knives slid down into each hand. "I have no need of Thor's protection." He threw the knives and Hawkeye yelled falling to the ground as they pierced each of his knees releasing the arrow he had in his bow. Loki caught it and plunged it into Agent Romanoff's side. She fell to the ground but was still able to fire off a couple rounds at him but found they simply bounced off his armor. Captain America was about to throw his shield again when Loki kicked him in the chest and he was knocked back through several trees. The rest of the agents moved in but were no match for Loki.
As he disarmed one he kicked and punched others knocking them all yards away until they had all been dispatched with. Hawkeye and Agent Romanoff were still on the ground as he walked towards them. They looked up at him expecting to be killed but to their surprise he paid them no mind and looked behind him. Captain America was closing in quickly and this time he saw the shield flying at him. He jumped out of the way running through the park until he reached the city streets. Captain America caught his shield after it bounced off a tree and chased Loki as he weaved through the streets until finally he ran into an alley with no exit. He threw his shield and growled in anger as he once again caught it in his hand when it went through Loki bouncing off the end of the alley wall and Loki disappeared.
"Same old tricks." Captain America shouted. He ran out of the alley holding a hand to his ear making contact with the ship above him. "Loki is on Earth but he pulled a bait and switch when we tried to apprehend him. Send a medical team to the park and another team to start sweeping the city for any sign of him."
Loki smiled to himself as he burst through the door of her apartment. He smirked when he pictured the soldiers face when he realized he had slipped through their grasp, again. He went into Serenity's bedroom and walked into her closet. When he saw the silver jewelry box he opened it and immediately found what he was looking for. He took the sparkling crescent moon earring in his hand. "This brought me to you before. Hopefully it will still bring me back to you now." He closed his eyes but before anything happened a circular white beam of light came through the window and hit Loki in the back. He fell to his knees as pain like he had never felt before filled his body.
It felt like he was being burned from the inside out. He looked up when he began to hear screams coming from the rest of the city. "Serenity…" He said through gritted teeth as the pain intensified. He held the earring tight in his hand and concentrated. Slowly a silver portal opened in front of him. He rose to his feet and pushed through the excruciating pain walking through the portal. He walked out the other side and once again fell to his knees not being able to ignore the pain coursing through him. He looked ahead of him and saw Serenity floating in the air with rubble from the moon swirling around her. The silver crystal glowed in her palms as white beams of light continued to pour out of it. He saw no sign of Nehelenia.
Princess Serenity's eyes started to fill with tears as she heard the screams around the universe as the power of the crystal touched them. "I have to stop this." She whispered to herself letting the tears fall as more screams filled her mind. Her eyes widened when she heard a familiar voice in front of her. "Serenity!"
She was shocked to see Loki crawling towards her. She saw him trying to hide the pain he was in as he looked at her. "What are you doing here?" She yelled as she tried even harder to stop the crystal. "You have to go, now. The Crystal is out of my control!" She knew it didn't matter where he was the pain would be the same but she couldn't bear to watch him die at her hands.
"I will not leave without…" Loki tried to say but the wind began to blow harder around them.
"Loki!" Serenity screamed when she saw him get hit by a pillar and thrown into another one. Tears streamed faster down her cheeks as he collapsed and could not get up as the power of the crystal overtook him. The screams were growing louder and louder. As she looked at him she found her mind drifting to her mother and her eyes widened when a long forgotten memory came to her.
An eleven year old Princess Serenity ran into the throne room and stopped in front of her mother. "May I ask you a question?"
Queen Serenity looked at her daughter and smiled kneeling down so she was eye level with her. "Of course my dear."
"Luna was telling me earlier about the history of the Silver Crystal. I was wondering. If the crystal is so powerful why don't you use it to rid the universe of all evil so there can always be peace?" Princess Serenity noticed her mother's face become serious as she looked at her.
"I could do that but would never ever attempt it. You see, the Silver Crystal is incapable of telling the difference between true evil and innocent bad acts. If I were to invoke the full power of the crystal to destroy all evil I could potentially be responsible for the deaths of everyone in the universe. It would make me far worse than the evil we sometimes must fight. You see Serenity with great power comes an even greater responsibility. As Queen I must always consider the consequences of my actions. As hard as it may be for you to understand right now good cannot exist without evil since we all have both in us."
Princess Serenity shook her head. "There cannot possibly be evil in you mother."
Queen Serenity smiled. "No one is above even the smallest bad deed."
Princess Serenity thought for several moments before looking to her mother again. "So there will always be fighting?"
"There will be times of peace and times of war. That is the way of the world. As queen I must work to keep the peace as long as possible but eventually someone will rise up threatening to end that peace." She patted her daughter on the head. "You are far too young to worry about such things. I know your court was looking for you earlier. Go and enjoy their company before they return to their planets."
Princess Serenity smiled hugging her mother tightly before she turned on her heel and ran to find her friends.
As the memory faded away Princess Serenity opened her eyes finally realizing the wisdom in her mother's words so long ago and realized what she had done. When she had enacted planet power she had asked the crystal to rid the world of evil not specifically Nehelenia. The crystal's power was doing just that and indeed did not discriminate. It was treating even the littlest act as evil and she was hearing their screams as the crystal killed them all. The little kid that steals a toy from his sister while playing. The wife who innocently slaps her husband for telling a bad joke. Then she looked at Loki, a man who did evil deeds but was on the path to redemption. They would all be murdered at her hands. By unleashing this power so recklessly she had become a bigger plague on the universe than any enemy she could ever face would be. She was destroying everything her ancestors had worked to build. She looked at the crystal radiating power between her palms.
She thought of only one way to stop its power. She only hoped it wasn't too late. "I am Serenity." She called out. "Queen of the Moon Kingdom and the last wielder of the Silver Crystal. You will obey my command." She looked at Loki who raised his head when he heard her voice. Their eyes locked and he could see in them what she was about to do. She saw the tears coming to his eyes and she tried to smile through her own. "Remember I will love you always." She mouthed to him.
Then without a second thought she closed her hands around the crystal and thrust them inward turning the power of the silver crystal onto herself. She cried out as she felt the burning power entering her body. Loki watched horrified as white beams of light shot out of her eyes and mouth. She continued to cry out in agony and streaks of white began to appear in her golden blonde hair. Her dress started to burn away as her skin was scorched by the power but she did not stop. Instead she smiled as she felt the crystals power weakening and the screams of the others in the universe dying down. She knew she had saved them all and closed her eyes. "I love…you…Loki." She whispered with her last breaths at peace knowing that her sacrifice would save the world she had protected for centuries. As she exhaled her last breath a brilliant burst of silver light lit up the ruins of the moon.
Loki lowered his arm as the silver light subsided and noticed the pain that had overtaken his body was completely gone. He slowly stood up and looked around the moon frantically. He ran as fast as he could when he saw what looked like blonde hair. As he got closer he saw one of her hands. He lifted the pillar that had landed on top of her and threw it aside. She was bruised, burned and bloody. Her white dress was nearly entirely singed from her body. As he stared at her he realized he could not see her chest rising and falling as one did when they breathed. He took off what was left of his overcoat and dropped to his knees putting his head to her chest. He couldn't hear a heartbeat either. He began to perform what he knew mortals called CPR for what felt like forever. He sat back putting his head in his hands when he got no response. He wrapped his overcoat around her and pulled her lifeless body into his arms. He held her close and pushed aside the hair that had fallen over her face. He lowered his head close to her. "You can't be gone." He whispered to her. "After all we have been through you can't leave me now. Please, I love you too much to lose you."
He felt himself going numb as he stood with her in his arms. He already missed the feeling of her arms wrapping around his neck. Instead they laid still in her lap. A glint of silver caught his eye and he turned around. He saw her locket on the ground and bent down to pick it up holding it tightly in his hand. He turned and faced the silver portal. He slowly walked towards it but stopped before entering it. He glanced back at the stones that marked the graves of her mother and Luna. He wondered for a moment if he should leave her here erecting a grave for her as well so she could be laid to rest with her people. He shook his head banishing the thought from his mind. He refused to accept she was truly gone and walked with her through the portal.
Frigga ran out of the palace and onto the rainbow bridge with Thor right behind her. "What are you doing?" He called out after her.
She turned around. "You felt it did you not."
"All of Asgard felt the agonizing pain of that power but you can't be sure it was her…"
She turned on him and continued on her path with Thor still behind her. "Queen Serenity once told Odin of the silver crystals power and what could happen to everyone in the universe in detail if she or its wielder ever invoked all its destructive power. I am certain it was her." She explained as they walked into the observatory. "Heimdall turn your gaze on Princess Serenity."
Heimdall's eyes became unfocused as he scanned the universe. He looked at Frigga as they returned to normal. "I am sorry my queen but I cannot see her." Heimdall answered and before she could ask. "I could not see Loki either."
Frigga said nothing and Thor put a comforting hand on his mother's shoulder. Then looked at Heimdall. "Keep looking. If you see either of them inform us immediately."
Heimdall nodded and they turned leaving the observatory. "Do you fear the worst mother?"
"Heimdall could not see them so there is hope. Had they been dead there is very little chance either of them could conceal themselves from Heimdall's gaze."
"If that is true what do you think father will do if Heimdall does catch sight of them?" Thor asked and she noted the concern in his voice.
Frigga stopped on the bridge and looked down at the raging blue water below them. "You felt the pain and heard the screams of our people just as I did." She answered quietly. "No doubt he will do what he feels needs to be done to protect the realms." She sighed. "He was willing to kill Loki for his crimes. She almost decimated our realm and I fear he will eliminate her in order to Asgard and the rest of the realms."
"And what of Loki? You know he will not allow harm to come to her by his hand or anyone else's. Do you not remember what he was prepared to do when I suggested she be sent to the dungeons?"
Frigga thought for a moment then turned around and walked back to reenter the observatory. Heimdall bowed his head to her. "My queen."
"If you do see Loki or Princess Serenity you must inform me and me alone." Frigga ordered firmly.
Heimdall raised an eyebrow. "Word has already reached me that the king wants to know of their location as well. You would have me defy him?"
"You have defied him for Thor. You will do it for me. If Loki or Serenity show themselves I will be the first to know." She turned around and nearly walked right into Thor who raised an eyebrow at her. "I will not have everything they or we have gone through be for nothing." She left the observatory leaving Thor behind. She felt guilty for putting Heimdall in such a difficult position but knew there was no choice. She couldn't help but smirk as she reentered the palace on her way to see Odin. She knew Loki and if he did not want to be found she was confident he would not be.
Director Nick Fury walked onto the deck of the S.H.I.E.L.D hovercraft and approached Agent Hill. "Anything?"
"No sir." She answered. "I have everyone working on it. Whatever that power was it has completely disappeared."
"And Loki?" Fury asked.
"He seems to have disappeared as well." Agent Hill reported.
"What information do we have?" Fury asked his frustration seeping through. Loki was back on earth and not long after that round white beams entered the Heli-carrier hitting them all one by one. He was certain they were all going to die but then just as it started it was gone with no lasting effects it seemed. Now he wanted answers.
"What little we do have confirms that the source of the power did not come from earth and miraculously no fatalities have been reported." Agent Hill told him pulling him out of his thoughts as she looked at the monitors a bit confused at the new information she as reading. "From what we can tell it originated from the moon."
"The moon?" Fury repeated. "So Loki?"
"Could just be a coincidence but we have everyone on alert and a team in place in Cambridge. Once Agents Barton and Romanoff are healed they are eager to return to the team to find him." Agent Hill explained.
"How can they be sure he will still be there?"
"Instinct was all they would say." She answered.
Fury nodded. "Keep me posted. Whatever that power was I want to know but more importantly I want to know who was behind it."
Agent Hill nodded and walked over to another agent to begin the relay of director Fury's orders. Fury walked up to the front of the hovercraft looking out at the clouds in the sky as the sun rose. His own screams and the one's of everyone else on his ship still echoed in his mind. He had never felt pain like that and whoever was behind it was going to answer for it. He knew of one other person that may know what happened but he had no way to get to him.
As Loki stepped through the other side of the portal he laid Serenity on her bed placing her locket on the nightstand. He covered her with a sheet and looked down hoping for some sign of life but there was still nothing. He walked to the bathroom shifting from his tattered armor to more comfortable clothing. He wet a cloth in warm water and walked back to her side. He gently wiped the blood from her face and removed the sheet beginning to tend to her numerous wounds. His mind told him it was a pointless act but at the moment he didn't care. His heart refused to accept she was gone. When he was finished he covered her with the sheet again and looked down at her.
He tried to will it away but could already feel the emptiness in his heart at the thought of a life without her. That's when he heard her angelic voice in his mind. "I need you to do something for me. You must promise me that if I do not survive you will not go back to that dark place inside yourself. Honor me by continuing on the path you are on." He sunk to his knees next to the bed taking her hand in his and looked up at her face. "We have done this dance before, remember. When I was waiting for you to wake from facing your dark side. Only then you were breathing and your heart was beating. Now there is no life in you. I can see you growing paler but even so you still look like an angel, my angel." He looked down kissing the hand he held, it was cold instead its usual warm. He looked back up at her face. "I promise you I will try to honor the request you asked of me but I can already feel the hole growing in my heart at the loss of you just like before." He thought of the look in her eyes before she had turned her power onto herself and anger flashed in his eyes. "How could you choose to leave me? How could you expect me to go on and be happy without you? If any part of you can hear me I am begging you to come back to me." He found he could no longer look up at her face and laid his head on her chest letting his held in tears fall.
