A.N. Happy New Year! (technically it's only 5 here but I know for most of you it's already the new year) It's been a pretty OK year for me. Excited what 2014 has in store and I hope you all feel the same. Enjoy yourselves and I'm excited to bring you all a great conclusion to this story. (yes, sadly this story will be wrapping up but don't worry, there's still awhile to go) I still have plenty of storylines that I want to explore before it comes to a full close. I just hope that our show Zade will have a happy conclusion particularly this season. Anyway, enjoy this chapter and I know it's short but I promised an update and luckily I'm able to post this before I leave for my New Year's celebration. So enjoy and I will try and update ASAP! And P.S. Thanks for a great year and be safe!
Am I asleep am I awake or somewhere in between
I cant believe that you are here and lying next to me
Or did I dream that we were perfectly entwined
Like branches on a tree, or twigs caught on a vine
Like all those days and weeks and months I tried to steal a kiss
And all those sleepless nights and daydreams where I pictured this
Im just the underdog who finally got the girl
And I am not ashamed to tell it to the world!
Truly, madly, deeply I am
Foolishly, completely falling
And somehow you kicked all my walls in
So baby say you'll always keep me
Truly, madly, crazy, deeply in love with you
In love with you
Wish I could freeze this moment in a frame and stay like this
or put this day back on replay and keep reliving it
Cause heres the tragic truth, if you dont feel the same
My heart would fall apart if someone said your name
It was New Year's Eve in Bluebell and Wade Kinsella was a nervous wreck. He had plans to propose to Zoe at midnight and was freaking out. No one in town except his father knew he was proposing to her. He hadn't even told Lavon until it slipped during breakfast.
"Marriage? Wade, you serious?" Lavon asked with a smile
"Don't say anything, alright? I want it to be a complete surprise," Wade replied
"Wow, Wade. Congratulations," Lavon said
"It's not official yet, Lavon," Wade admitted
"You remember no more than two years ago when we were standin in this same kitchen and you were all worried about Zoe and Judson? Now look at you. I gotta admit, Wade. You've come a long way," Lavon smiled, happy that his friend was finally going to propose to a woman he actually loved.
"Thanks, Lavon. But don't ever bring up that veterinarian who I still think shouldn't be called a doctor, Judson again, alright?" Wade replied
"Guess he won't be invited to the weddin then?" Lavon teased
Wade only smiled as he shook his head and left the kitchen with a mini muffin.
He tried to avoid Zoe for most of the day because he was afraid he'd give her a clue to what he was up to. It was rather easy avoiding her since she was busy at work. As she was busy working, he was thinking about what he was going to say and how he was going to propose. He didn't want anything big, he wasn't that kind of guy. He wanted something simple yet also something that would show her that he did put in an effort. That is why he decided to go to Mobile to buy an engagement ring. He had stopped by his father's place beforehand because Earl had insisted he go there.
"Tonight's the big night, son. Proposing to your girlfriend," Earl chuckled
"Which is why I can't stay long, Earl. I'm headin out to buy a ring," he admitted
Earl looked at him in surprise
"Son, I've got your mom's ring in a box in my room. Why you gonna go waste your money on a new ring for?" he asked
Wade looked at him in surprise
"You still got mom's ring?"
"Of course," Earl smiled, going to his room to get the ring
A few minutes later, he came back, handing Wade the ring. Wade hadn't seen the ring in years that he forgot how it looked. The diamond still sparkled as he remembered how it looked on his mother's finger.
"Uh…thanks, dad. You sure you want me to give it to Zoe? You love this ring," Wade admitted, knowing this was one of the last things his father had of his mother's possessions
"It's been sittin in that box long enough. Jesse's not gonna marry anytime soon. Besides, you're mother would want the pretty doctor to have it," Earl smiled
"Thank you," Wade said, hugging his father
"Good luck, son," Earl said as he pulled away
Meanwhile, Zoe was busy at work as it seemed that everyone in Bluebell wanted to check their health in preparation for their New Year's resolutions. She had already done about seven physicals that day and was exhausted. Brick had gone away on vacation with his girlfriend, Shelby, who apparently was Lemon's age. Zoe didn't like to picture Brick with a woman who was her age so when he asked her she just said yes quickly. When it was finally time for her to close which was at 5 she headed to the Rammer Jammer to see Wade instead she ran into Shelley.
"Hey, Shelley. Is Wade here?" she asked
"Hasn't been here all day," Shelley admitted
Zoe looked at her confused,
"Thanks," she replied as she pulled out her phone and dialed Wade's number
"Hey, babe," he answered
"Hey, I'm at the Rammer Jammer. Where are you?" she asked
"I had to go to Mobile. I'm on my way back," Wade admitted
"Mobile? Why didn't you tell me?" asked a curious Zoe
"I'll tell you everythin later, alright? Meet me at my place in an hour?" he asked
"OK, I'll see you soon," Zoe said hanging up, curious as to why he had to go to Mobile
An hour later and Zoe sat waiting for Wade in his bed. When he finally arrived, Zoe stood up and kissed him
"So, why were you in Mobile?" she asked
"Lavon needed me to get somethin for him. Apparently he's going to surprise Annabeth or something" he lied, hoping she wouldn't run into Lavon from now until midnight
"Huh…OK," Zoe said, unsure if she really believed him but decided not to push the issue
"So, what did you want to do until midnight?" he asked with a smirk
"Well, we've got three hours to kill," Zoe admitted looking at the time
Wade moved closer to her and kissed her, pulling her toward the bed. An hour passed and Zoe lay in Wade's arms as he held her tightly and kissed her shoulders softly. A few minutes later, Zoe received a text message.
"It's Shelley. She wants to know if we're going to the town square to celebrate," Zoe said
"I thought Lavon cancelled that after last year's firework debacle?" Wade questioned
"So, do you want to go?" Zoe asked, curiously
Wade had wanted to propose to Zoe at midnight alone and knew if they went it would be in front of everyone. However, he could also tell how much Zoe wanted to go and so eventually gave in.
"Alright, we'll go," he said as Zoe smiled as she texted Shelley back.
"What time is it? I should start getting ready," Zoe said, noticing the time.
Midnight was only two hours away. Wade hesitated a bit as he wasn't sure when he should propose to Zoe. Getting nervous, he decided to wait until after Zoe got out of the shower, but then something came over him and before Zoe got up from the bed, he told her to wait
"You want to join me?" she smiled, she noticed how nervous he was and looked at him curiously
"Wade, what is it? Why are you so nervous?" she asked
He didn't know how to say what he wanted to say. He had rehearsed this over and over and yet he couldn't even look into her eyes as he couldn't remember what he had wanted to say. But then as he finally got the courage to look into her eyes, he didn't need those rehearsed words.
"Wade?" she asked
He smiled as he looked at her and began his speech
"When you first asked me to be your boyfriend, I was scared I couldn't live up to the image. There were times where I thought it would be easier to wreck it all. Which I almost did. I know I've hurt you, Zoe. But everything that I have done, everything that I want to do is be the man you see. I'm ready to be here for you in every way," he paused a moment to pull out his mother's ring as Zoe stood there taking in his every word and what he was about to ask her as he continued,
"Will you marry me, Zoe Hart?"
