Summary; Arthur, Jett and Matthew get nostalgic
Peter, Paula and Joshua play together in the corner, Arthur, Jett and Matthew watching from the corner like the awesome carers they are.
"They grow up fast, don't they?" Jet sighs nostalgically.
Arthur snorts, "You won't be saying that when they're teenagers leading revolutions against you."
"That was one time!" Alfred yells from across the room. Joshua sends his supposed older brother a glare, before returning to his game.
"I doubt they will grow up anymore," Jett muses, "I mean, the lands they own are tiny."
"By that logic, Arthur's still, like, twelve," Matthew points out, "Compared to me and you and Alfred and Ivan, he's absolutely tiny. Alfie owns states bigger than him."
"Yeah, but Dad did basically take over the world."
"I had a difficult childhood!" Arthur snaps, "Some teenagers rebel against their parents, some start revolutions," he glares at Alfred, not noticing how Jett and Matthew whisper their agreement on 'rebelling' and 'starting a revolution' are kind of the same thing in Alfred's case, "And I just took over the world! And it's not exactly a bad thing; I think I did a damn good job of raising you two," another glare at Alfred, reminding him that he is not part of that 'two', "I don't know what went wrong. I don't know how I lost my empire."
"Your ridiculous suicidal tactics!" Matthew exclaims, "Charge of the Light Brigade, for example!"
"Ah, such a noble six hundred!" Arthur smiles in reminiscence.
"You can't talk, mate," Jett gives Matthew a look, "Remember the Korean War? Your commander ordered a bomb strike on himself!"
"That was necessary!" Matthew defends.
"You have no idea how freaked out we all were when the bombs dropped! Young-Soo was even thinking about surrendering because he thought you'd been killed!"
"How about, instead of fighting, we focus on the children?" Arthur asks calmly, "We've all done stupid things, but history is history and we've all seen enough of Alfred's crappy films to know that we shouldn't start pratting with history."
"Do you really think they're going to grow up?" Jett asks, "Paula's so adorable as a little girl."
"I don't really like the idea of Joshua growing up," Matthew says, "He's a little introverted, thanks to Ivan basically abandoning him, but what if he turns out like Ivan when he grows up and tries to take over the world or something? Or he turns out like Alfred and I have to put up with two idiots? What if he remains introverted and lives alone his entire life?"
"You never know how children are going to turn out," Arthur says sadly, "I never thought Alfred would be capable of leading a revolution. I never thought any of you would leave. The thing is, times change and people change, and there's nothing we can do about it."
A moment of silence settles between the trio, broken by Jett; "That was so deep, the fish living in it are fucking terrifying, even by my standards."
Inspired by Shiary requesting "the Korean war, especially... when the Canadian commander ordered an airstrike on his own position." I was struggling with this, because I was worried it would turn into angst and I promised myself I wouldn't let this series turn into angst, then at 1am I suddenly got two (admittedly shitty) ideas, so there'll be another chapter soon.
Alaska used to be Russian territory, but USA bought it for $7.2, which many still say was too little, hence Joshua being abandoned. He lives with Canada because of similar climates.
I don't own Hetalia, any countries, the Korean War or Shiary
