A/N: Hello everyone! This chapter is going to be the beginning of a new part of Kaitlyn's story. This chapter takes place at the end of season 4. I hope you enjoy it!
Lex sat in the cabin that the Teagues had brought himself and his father to, pulling at his bindings. Jason and Genevieve were talking quietly together across the room and weren't paying much attention to Lex and Lionel. As hard as he tried, Lex couldn't get out of his bindings. He looked up to see Jason walking back towards them with his gun pointed right at Lex.
"Tell us where the stone is Lex!"
Lex had been holding out against them but he could tell that his father was wearing thin against their torture. Before he could say anything, Lionel spoke up.
"Who do you think he would trust with something so valueable. How about someone with a history with the stones? Hmm? Did you think of that?"
Jason glared at Lionel before turning his gaze back to his mother. The two of them seemed to have a silent conversation before a look of realization crossed Genevieve's face.
"Lana. He left it with Lana. Jason, you stay here and keep these two under your watch. I'm going to go get the stone."
Lex struggled a bit more against the binding, trying to distract Genevieve.
"No! He's lying!"
Genevieve laughed darkly as she took a step towards Lex, grabbing his chin in her hand.
"I don't think so. I know your father and he would do anything if it meant preserving his lineage. I'm going to believe him. And I think there should be some sort of punishment for you not telling us the truth. Maybe on my way to see Lana, I'll stop and pay that Fordman girl a little visit."
Lex's eyes widened at the mention of Kaitlyn.
"No! You leave her alone! Leave Lana alone! Neither of them has anything to do with this!"
Genevieve smiled darkly before exiting the cabin. Lex screamed in desperation, begging her to stop, but she made her way to her car and started towards the Fordman home.
Kaitlyn was walking down the stairs after putting Joshua down for a nap when she heard someone come in the back door. She paused in her descent and listened to see who it was.
"Who's there?" she called out cautiously, slowly making her way back up the stairs towards the closet where they kept her father's old hunting rifle.
A woman she had never seen before made her way into the living room. She was looking at Kaitlyn like she had won the lottery
"Hello Kaitlyn. I'm glad I was able to find you home."
Kaitlyn gave the woman a confused look, trying to remember if she had ever met her before.
"I'm sorry, do we know each other?"
Genevieve shook her head and smiled.
"I'm sorry. I'm Geneveive Teague."
"Oh, you must be Jason's mother. May I ask what you are doing in my house?"
Genevieve made her way to the bottom of the stairs and waved Kaitlyn down.
"I came to have a little chat with you. It seems that we have a common acquaintance in the Luthor family. Lex Luthor to be precise."
Kaitlyn didn't trust this woman but figured she could defend herself if she had to. She finished her trek down the stairs and extended her hand in greeting.
"Well, I used to be associated with the Luthors. I no longer am."
Genevieve shook Kaitlyn's outstretched hand and carefully examined Kaitlyn's face.
"Hmm, well that is no matter. My business will still work out. I do have one question though. Why you?"
Kaitlyn looked at Genevieve with confusion.
"Excuse me?"
"What makes you so special? Why is he so determined to protect you?"
"What do you mean? Who is protecting me? And from what?"
"I thought I made it clear that our business here had to do with the Luthors. I'm talking about Lex dear. He was very adamant that he didn't want me coming here. I'm who he is determined to protect you from. You see my dear, I'm here to punish him."
Kaitlyn backed away from Genevieve, trying to put as much space as she could between them. Genevieve reached into her purse and pulled out a gun, aiming it at Kaitlyn.
"I'm very sorry that I have to do this to you. You seem like a very nice girl. But Luthors are a hard breed to teach lessons to. This seems to be the only way Lex will learn to tell the truth in the future."
Kaitlyn held her hands up in front of her in defense.
"Please don't! I told you my connection with the Luthors is in the past. I don't know what your issue is with them, but I have no part in it. Killing me won't teach Lex any lessons. In fact, killing me may just make his life easier."
Genevieve lowered her gun a little bit, her interest peaked.
"What do you mean by that?"
"If anything, I more worth to you alive than dead. I have a son. Lex's son. I kept him away from Lex and Lex would be very happy if I was gone. He would have another Luthor to carry on the family name. If you don't kill me, I have an alternate proposition for you."
Genevieve lowered the gun completely and took a step in Kaitlyn's direction.
"Alright, you have my attention. What is the brilliant idea of yours?"
Kaitlyn let out a small sigh of relief that Genevieve had seemed to believe her lies.
"Well, if you would be willing to help me fake my death, it would help both of us. Lex does care for me some so me being dead would succeed in breaking him a little. He would feel fully responsible for my death and it will break him. After I fake my death, I will take my son and leave the country. Not only will I be dead, but he won't know where his son is and that will drive him mad. You get to punish Lex and I can raise my son away from the Luthors. The last thing you want in this world is to deal with another Luthor, am I correct?"
Genevieve nodded slowly as she understood what Kaitlyn was proposing.
"I understand your point. Plus, not killing you would leave less of a mess on my hands. How do you think I would be able to help you fake your death?"
Kaitlyn raised her eyebrows at the question.
"You are very similar to the Luthors in your dealings, I figured you would also have similar methods. Death faking seems like a very Luthor thing to do."
Genevieve smiled knowingly.
"It's a shame that Lex didn't marry you when he had the chance. You would make a good Luthor. I like your mind. If we didn't have this plan being put in place, I would consider you for my own son."
Kaitlyn inwardly shuddered at Genevieve saying she was thinking like a Luthor. That was a kind of life she wanted to avoid.
"So…do we have a deal Mrs. Teague?"
Genevieve reached out her hand, which Kaitlyn shook to seal the deal. She placed her gun back into her bag and pulled out a syringe and 2 bottles.
"This drug will simulate death in your body. It will slow your heartbeat and breathing so you appear dead. Just inject it and make sure there is someone that you want to use the antidote to bring you out of your drugged state."
Kaitlyn took the offered items and nodded at Genevieve.
"Nice doing business with you."
Genevieve headed for the door, turning before exiting.
"After this whole commotion is over, my people will contact you with the details on your extraction from the country. Get yourself and your son to the airport tomorrow and we will work from there."
Kaitlyn let out a giant sigh of relief when Genevieve walked out the door, closing it behind her. She sunk to the floor and buried her hand in her arms.
What did I just do?
Kaitlyn looked at the vials in her hand and contemplated what she needed to do in the plan. She couldn't believe that she was extracting herself from her hometown and helping a vicious woman break Lex's heart. When she saw the gun in her hand, Kaitlyn's survival instincts had kicked in and she did what she had to keep herself and her son alive and out of harms way. She meantally kicked herself as she realized that Genevieve may have been right. She was channeling the Luthor instincts that she had been exposed to through Lex and Lionel.
I didn't even marry Lex, and I got stuck with the Luthor persona anyways.
Kaitlyn picked herself off the floor and went to grab her cell. She dialed her mom's number and waited for her to pick up.
"Hello?"
"Mom, something horrible just happened and I need your help with something. Please don't ask any questions."
Kaitlyn heard her mom hesitate before answering.
"Kaitlyn, you're scaring me. What's going on?"
"Well, it appears that my involvement with Lex has finally caught up with me. I have been caught up in a Luthor issue and now I have to deal with the consequences. I'm going to do something and leave you a note in the cabinet with instructions on what to do. Can you follow the instructions without asking questions?"
"I guess I can do that. I want to know what's going on when this is resolved though."
"I will explain everything after this is all over. I love you mom."
"I love you too Kaitlyn."
Kaitlyn heard a click as the call was ended. She hung up her phone and shoved it in her pocket. She went and grabbed a piece of paper to write the instructions down for her mom to follow. Placing the note and the antidote in the cabinet, Kaitlyn got ready to inject the contents of the other vial. She lay down on the floor and stuck the needle in her arm, pressing down the plunger. She tossed the syringe under the island and laid her head down, feeling a heavy pressure cover her entire body until everything was black.
Lex ran as fast as he could from the car into the Fordman's house. Luckily the meteors hadn't hit the house, so he didn't have to climb over any debris. He threw the door open and rushed into the house.
"Kaitlyn!"
He turned towards the kitchen and the sight he saw made his heart stop. Kaitlyn was lying on the kitchen floor. Lex rushed to her side and placed his fingers on her neck, trying to feel a pulse. When he couldn't feel anything, his eyes began to fill with desperate tears. He took Kaitlyn's limp head into his lap and hunched over her, making desperate pleas he knew would go unanswered.
"No…no no….please…don't take her from me. I love her! Kaitlyn please come back!"
Lex softly caressed Kaitlyn's face, his tears wetting her cheeks as they streaked down his own face. He placed a kiss on her cool forehead, willing her to come back to him. He sat there for what seemed like hours, staring at her face, hoping she would open her eyes and smile up at him.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out the box that he had gone back to the mansion to get. Opening the box, he removed the ring from its case. Grabbing Kaitlyn's left hand, he slipped the ring onto her ring finger.
"This ring was always meant for you. I wanted to propose before you headed off to college. I never got the chance. I love you Kaitlyn, I always will."
Lex sat on the kitchen floor cradling her for half an hour before Deb came home. She noticed Lex sitting on the floor and saw Kaitlyn's feet. Not knowing what was going on, she did as Kaitlyn had told her. She quickly grabbed the note from the cabinet and read it.
MOM
I'M NOT REALLY DEAD. LEX ONLY HAS TO THINK I AM. I WILL EXPLAIN WHY WHEN YOU WAKE ME UP WITH THE ANTIDOTE. YOU NEED TO TELL LEX TO LEAVE AND MAKE HIM BELIEVE THIS IS ALL HIS FAULT. TELL HIM THAT I LOVED HIM AND IT GOT ME KILLED.
KAITLYN
Deb slipped the note in her pocket and made her presence known to Lex. She put on her best surprised face and walked up to where Lex was sitting on the floor.
"Oh my god! My baby!"
Lex looked up at Deb with bloodshot eyes and tried to apologize.
"Deb, I'm so sorry. I didn't know they would go after her until it was too late. I couldn't do anything to stop them. I wish I could go back and change things."
Deb's face turned from shock to anger and hatred.
"This is all your fault! My daughter loved you and look where it got her! She's dead because of you!"
Lex gently placed Kaitlyn back on the floor and stood to Deb's level, trying to calm her down.
"I'm so sorry. I loved her! This isn't what I wanted to happen!"
Deb pointed her finger at the door and shook her head.
"Get out of my house! I can't even stand to look at you!"
Lex nodded sadly and made his way to the door, taking one last glance at Kaitlyn before leaving. Deb watched as he drove away before she reached into the cabinet again. She grabbed the antidote and grabbing one of the old medicine syringes from the drawer, she injected the solution into Kaitlyn's arm. She watched anxiously for a sign of Kaitlyn waking.
Kaitlyn slowly opened her eyes after a few minutes, blinking rapidly as she adjusted to the light. She made a move to sit up, but Deb placed her hand on her shoulder.
"Maybe you should take it slow. We don't know what the effects will be."
Kaitlyn lay on the floor until she felt the felling return to all her extremities. She grabbed the edge of the island and pulled herself into a sitting position. She looked at her mom's worried face and felt tears well up in her eyes.
"Was it horrible?"
It took Deb a second to realize what Kaitlyn was asking, but she realized she was talking about Lex.
"Yes, honey it was. He was absolutely heartbroken. He truly believes whatever happened was his fault. What did happen exactly?"
Kaitlyn sighed deeply as she prepared to explain everything to her mother.
"A woman came into the house and she threatened to kill me. She said it was to punish Lex. My survival instincts must have kicked in. I reasoned her out of killing me and came up with an alternate solution. I would fake my death so Lex would think that I was dead and then I would take Joshua and leave."
"Leave where?"
"I need to leave the country. I'm sorry mom, that's how it has to be. I need to become a new person in a different country to get away from the Luthor influence. The woman said that she thought I was thinking just like a Luthor. When she said that, I felt a chill go through my bones."
Den reached out and hugged Kaitlyn tightly.
"Will I ever be able to see you again?"
Kaitlyn gladly returned the hug, warm tears streaming down her face.
"I certainly hope so. I need to start getting ready to leave. I need to get to the airport tomorrow and be ready to leave with Joshua."
Kaitlyn stood up and was surprised by the sight she saw outside the window. Smoke was rising from multiple sources on the horizon and she could see black lines streaking across the sky. She was suddenly overpowered by childhood memories of the first meteor shower. She could hear the sounds of her father's truck crashing into the ditch and being struck by the falling space rock. She heard people screaming and the crunching sound of the truck as it was crushed under the weight of the meteor.
Kaitlyn shook her head, trying to clear the sounds out as she gazed upon another view of destruction caused by meteors. One thing she was glad about the fact that she would soon be out of Smallville was that she would be away from this tragedy.
Kaitlyn walked up the stairs to her room to pack what she could. She rushed between her room and Joshua's room, stuffing things into duffle bags. When she was satisfied that she had everything that she would absolutely need, she pulled her cell phone out of her back pocket. She had one final call to make.
She held the phone up to her ear, waiting for the other end to pick up.
"Hello?"
"Chloe? I need you to do something for me."
A/N: See? I told you it would be bad. I wasn't really sure how to write the reasoning for GT to keep Kaitlyn alive so hopefully what I wrote made sense. From now on, we won't be seeing much of Lex. We will be hearing about him and there may be a few things related to him, but the next 7 chapters will be about Kaitlyn's new life in a new country. Please review and tell me what you think!
