Taylor paid the driver and Christian followed him out of the taxi. "Stay beside me. I forgot about the mall. We'll get the phone there."
Christian nodded. Neither man was in the mood for idle chit chat. They were both absorbed by their situation. The Suria Mall was magnificent. To begin with, it was air conditioned and delightfully cool. Taylor approached a kiosk and quickly closed the deal on two cell phones, pre-paid, ready to go. Then they entered an expensive restaurant and took a booth in a darkened corner and ordered lunch and two black iced coffees.
Taylor's fingers flew over the keys as he texted Sawyer, "ID and Status - T "
There was no response. Taylor felt his insides tighten and his stomach burn as he tried to think of reasons for Sawyer not to respond. He repeated his text and added last chance b4 I shut this down. Immediately, his phone rang. Startled, he dropped his coffee so hard, it sloshed all over the table. His eyes met Christian's and he answered, "Speak!"
"Taylor?" Ana asked, somewhat uncertainly.
Taylor closed his eyes in relief and touched the screen putting the phone on speaker. He smiled somewhat grimly as he saw the boss's eyes fill with tears.
"Ana! Are you alright?"
"Christian! Where are you? We've been looking for you everywhere!"
"Ana, where is Sawyer?" Interrupted Taylor.
"Don't worry, Taylor, I won't leave his side. He wouldn't go until everyone else had been attended to but now we're wheeling him and Fitz out to an ambulance. Inspector Wu is traveling with me and we have a police escort to the hospital."
"How bad is he hurt Ana?"
"They managed to stop the bleeding but he's going to need surgery. Right now, he's unconcious, but they said that's to be expected."
"Who's with you?"
"Inspector Wu."
"No. From our team, who's protecting you?"
"I am protecting myself, Taylor. Inspector Wu is my back up. He understands no one is allowed to even approach me."
Christian heard two doors slam and the sound of the ambulances siren. "What hospital?" He yelled, trying to be heard over the siren. He heard Ana ask what hospital they were going to and then she replied, "Prince Court Medical Center!"
"We'll meet you there." Christian replied.
"Gotta go, can't hear you. See you at the hospital. Bye."
Both men stood, Taylor dropping a wad of cash on the table, Christian grabbing his sandwich, and wrapping it in a napkin, along with Taylor's. They weren't wasting any food, plus hospital food is awful everywhere, even Asia.
Outside, Taylor and Christian walked to the taxi stand, flashed more money and got in. In just a few minutes they were walking inside the main entrance to Prince Court hospital.
At the information desk, after Taylor announced they were there for Luke Sawyer, they were immediately surrounded by plain clothes police with weapons drawn.
Taylor tried explaining their identity but no one moved. Then from behind him, Christian heard a man of obvious Chinese descent ask, "Christian Grey, I presume? I have someone with me most anxious to see you."
Christian spun around and cried, "Ana!" In relief, as he saw her beautiful self, safe and unharmed. She ran the short distance to him and leaped up into his arms, crying hysterically. Christian felts tears run down his cheeks, as he clenched her tightly to his chest, closing his eyes tightly, overcome with emotion. Unable to talk, he just held her, breathing in her scent, letting his hands skim lightly over her body as if to make sure she was real and not a hallucination. He held back the sobs that were gathering inside him, long enough for Taylor to find a room for them for some privacy. Christian simply didn't care anymore about how he looked or whether the paparazzi were able to get a shot of him. All he cared about was Ana and being with her once again. There was a brisk knock and then Taylor was there with a set of scrubs for him to put on. They looked oddly familiar and then he realized that Ana was wearing scrubs too.
He looked down at her questionly and she explained solemnly, "Sawyer's blood."
Christian nodded, " Any word on him yet?"
"No. He is still in surgery."
Christian slumped back against the wall and took a long, deep breath as he slowly steadied his emotions. He could feel Ana's body still trembling slightly as he held her close. If all he ever did for the rest of his life was hold her close and comfort her, he'd count himself a lucky man. Taylor's familiar brisk knock interrupted his thoughts and soon they were all on their way to a private waiting room Inspector Wu had set up for them. He found himself unable to remove his hands from Ana. He needed her touch, no matter how simple. In the hallway, they held hands, in the elevator, he kept one arm around her all the time.
Now, in the waiting room, he laid on a couch, with Ana beside him, his arm draped protectively around her. He knew that soon, this pandering to his emotions would have to end. He would have to involve himself in the investigation. He would have to make some serious decisions.
He closed his eyes as his hand gently brushed the hair off Ana's forehead. He smiled as he felt the rhythmic rise of her chest against him and relaxed into her.
Elliot Grey peered into the small square window set in the door before swinging it open. His hand on the doorknob paused immediately. Was that really his brother he saw, laying on a couch, with a woman straddling him, her face buried in his chest? Was that actually a smile gracing the fuckers face? Silently, he opened the door. Then propping it open with his foot, he pulled out his phone and started photo bombing Christian and Ana. After a minute, he let the door go,and completely entered the room, his finger still busily clicking away. When he was about three feet away, he heard Christian's harsh whisper, "Elliot,if you wake her up..."
Ana giggled. "Too late." And then added apologetically, "I need to pee." Christian grunted as he brought them both up to a sitting position, accompanied by the camera clicks of Elliot phone. Then he glared at his idiot brother. "Do you like that phone Elliot? "
"I should. You bought it for me."
"If you don't put it away now, I'll have Taylor confiscate it and destroy it. What the hell are you doing here anyway?"
Ana was slowly standing and speaking in Malay to a police officer that had followed Elliot inside. The officer went to the door and called out in Malay. Christian's face reflected his feelings as Ana moved away and his hands fell to his side. Elliot watched the different emotions on his brothers face in wonder. Reflecting on Christian's question, he answered aloud in a serious voice, "You are my brother. Do I seriously need a reason to see you?"
A somewhat embarrassed Christian quickly replied "Of course not! Let me just escort Ana..."
"Too late baby. Inspector Wu has given me my own security squad that accompany me everywhere. They inspect the bathroom, secure it, maintain that it stays empty, while escorting me there with two female armed officers with me inside. I am perfectly safe."
Christian frowned but reluctantly agreed. Soon, it was just Elliot and himself in the room. Christian knew why Elliot was here. His father must have told him. The familiar sense of shame washed over him again.
"Chris! Don't do this to yourself! If there is any fault at all, it's mine. She tried coming onto me too. I told her off. I never told Mom or Dad like I should have because I was afraid they would find out about my sex life and cut it off. If they had known, she would have never touched you. "
Christian sighed, " I don't think so El. I've had a lot of time to think about it. She used to tell me she saved me from prison or a drug overdose. Maybe, maybe not, but I do think I was ripe for something to happen. I don't know who or what it would have been, but it could have been worse."
"Did you ever think you might have met someone and fell in love?"
"I couldn't even date! How would I have found someone?"
"Finding love isn't following a neat set of directions and it has nothing to do with touching. Love is inside you. How did you meet Ana? How come she can touch your chest?*
Look, Christian, all I am saying is don't blame yourself. She knew every secret you had and she used them all against you. I don't know exactly what is going on right now, but family security was ratcheted up this morning and Dad had everyone moved to a place in the Alps. He asked me to go to you because at a time like this we all need our family. I have strict orders not to leave your side until I get you back to Mom and Dad. Besides, you know Dad. He didnt say anything, but I think he knew I needed to see you. I needed to tell to you about what happened so I jumped on a chance to see you. Not to mention, well, you know he told Mom and Mia and they both took it kind of hard, so there were a lot of tears and emotions between the two of them and Dad, well, he knows how to handle that."
"Fuck. God damn fucking bitch, she's like an evil disease that just keeps spreading. You have no idea what's happened here, do you?"
Elliot shook his head no.
"If you knew, you would never have got off the plane. If I knew you were coming here, I would have told you don't get off the plane. Never and I mean NEVER, have I been in a situation where my entire security team, we're talking over a dozen men, active and on duty were completely outmatched and taken down. All the secondary security was compromised as well. I came here with a bus load of security and I am down to Taylor. We are here, waiting for word on Sawyer who was shot protecting Ana. It's a big mess and at this point all I want is all of my people safely out of here. Once I know Sawyer and Ryan are stable, I'll get an air ambulance for them and have them brought home."
"Jeez, Ryan was shot too?"
"El, Ana's entire security team of five people were all shot down in the hotel lobby where we were staying."
"What the fuck?"
"Did I mention the shooter was Elena?"
"No way!"
"The security I had in place at the negotiations? I start to leave when I hear about Ana and all of a sudden, Taylor can't raise anybody. Taylor got me out of there but I still don't know what happened to my men. This is a very dangerous place to be, Elliot. I want you on the next flight out."
"When you leave, I leave."
Christian just grunted. The door opened then and both men looked up to see Ana had returned and was bowing in thanks to her escorts and speaking with them in Malay and Chinese.
"She can really speak that shit, can't she?"
Christian smiled proudly and said simply, "Yes, Elliot. She can really can."
Then Christian noticed Taylor in the doorway and from three tiniest head movement, knew Taylor needed to speak with him, away from Ana.
"I need to speak with Taylor. Keep Ana entertained. And Elliot, keep her safe."
"Sure bro. Go, this may be my only chance to get all the secret info on my brother, Christian Grey. I can see the headlines now, 'Christian Grey snores!' "
Christian couldn't help smiling, even though he tried not to. Elliot just always seemed to be able to make him smile. Idiot brother. He asked Ana to keep Elliot out of trouble and assured her it would not be an easy feat. He explained Taylor needed him and he needed to check in with Seattle.
She understood and immediately ordered food. If there was one thing that always got Elliot attention, it was food. Christian laughed as he joined Taylor.
Taylor said nothing at first, as Christian followed him down the hallway, an small army of police officers surrounding them, providing security. The office was small. Two desks, a chair behind each desks and a chair in front of each desk. Inspector Wu was waiting, sitting behind one of the desks.
"Good evening, gentlemen."
Startled by the greeting, Christian looked down at his watch and saw it was ten minutes past ten! It was right around one in the afternoon when Taylor interrupted the meeting. It only felt like a few hours ago.
"Mr Grey, Taylor." He stood, greeting both men, offering each a firm handshake. "I wish to update you both on the current situation. Thank you, Taylor for the assistance provided by your associate Barney. He has provided us with a clip of footage from the security camera by the elevator at the floor just below you in Port Klang. It was exactly as you suspected Taylor. Though the suspects did erase the camera, because it was digital, your friend was able to trace it and recover the lost footage. He offered them an IPAD showing the men looking up at the elevator floor indicator.
We have located all your missing men. They were all drugged. They have received medical attention and are at the airport ready to board a charter jet to Seattle. Per your instructions, Mr Grey, all GEH employees have been instructed to report to the airport with their passport immediately."
"What about Ros?" Christian demanded, looking at Taylor.
"Welch activated Armageddon. She was in the air a little before three."
"Armaggeddon? Really?"
"Really. We were both out of contact for over four hours. Welch had no choice."
"What a fucking mess."
"There is more."
Inspector Wu announced.
Christian really didn't want to hear it. He felt his body start to sag and stiffened his sline, reminding himself, when people attacked him, they attacked his company and they attacked all forty thousand employees working for him. He was in a war, a battle to survive both financially and physically. The only weapon he had was information. So Christian focused on Inspector Wu. Later, after Wu left them alone, with security outside the door, he talked it over with Taylor.
The Thai connection had been surprising. It shouldn't have been, Christian knew Elena had connections to a girls orphanage in Bangkok. Though Taylor harper on her constantly, Christian just wasn't convinced. "Honestly, Taylor. I see she is into this up to her eyeballs. I'm not defending her, but she couldn't have planned this. She's just not smart enough. We know there was inside info. Someone in that conference room sold me out and I want to know who that someone was."
"Agreed. In the meantime I have a jet on standby. I suggest we leave for the airport as soon as we hear Luke came through the surgery okay. Once we're in the air, we'll be safe and can relax for a while, maybe get some sleep. France is only eight hours away. By the time we land and meet up with your family, Welch and Barney will have all kinds of information."
"Go ahead Taylor. Do it. I want Ana out of here. Hell, I want out of here."
Taylor smiled grimly. "Understood, sir."
Shortly before midnight, the Christian Grey entourage, with police escort, snaked it's way to the airport. By 12:45 am, they were airborn. The only passengers were Christian, Ana, Elliot and Taylor finally on their way to France.
