Three weeks earlier…

"You're an idiot Roy." She laughed as she entered the portal of black energy.

In the moments before the portal opened up in her room she reflected on what had just passed. She smiled remembering the look of shock on Roy's face. It may have seemed cruel, but for all the pranks he had pulled throughout his time in the Titans he had earned it.

"It should have been mine! You should be mine, we should be us! I should be with you, not him. Me. I love you. And it makes me sick to know he has you, that he gets your passion, your intimacy, your love."

His words had been angry, frustrated and wrong. His pain dripped off them and it might have hurt her if it wasn't for the confession in them. Raven knew she should have stopped him there, told him she loved him told him that she and Robin were only friends. That Roy was the man she wanted to be with, the first and only man she had thought of since Eric. But knowing how he felt, knowing that they both felt it. It was enough to allow herself some fun.

She smiled to herself again as the portal opened up, she stepped into her room and just as quickly the smile faded. There was someone else there, briefly she wondered if she could step back through the portal and disappear, but she felt the eyes on her and knew it was too late.

"Where were you?" the voice was dark, it held notes of anger.

She didn't respond. She tried to look into the darkness of the room, tried to see who it was that sat on her bed with such a voice.

"Where were you?" the voice asked again. This time she could hear pain in the voice. But it was familiar.

"Wally?" Raven asked leaning forward to try to see better, he sat on her bed, hunched over.

"Where were you!" he shouted angrily. The sound of his voice elicited an unexpected gasp from her.

"Titans East." She replied taking a step back, she hadn't intended too, but some part of her feared him having to ask again.

He made a sound like a groan, and she thought she could hear muffled crying. Was he hurt? Had the team gone on a call while she was gone? Had they needed her and she wasn't there? Her concern overwhelmed her and she moved towards him, ignoring the part of her that called for distance.

"Wally what happened? Are you ok?" she asked reaching for him.

He grabbed her wrist hard and pulled her towards him.

"Am I ok? Am I ok! You went to see him didn't you? Didn't you!"

He shouted in her face tugging her wrist with each sentence. She tried to pull away but struggling only made his grip tighten. Her heart was racing and her mind was filled with confusion.

"Tell me the truth! Tell me Raven!"

"I went to speak with Speedy." She answered, her voice shook more than she wanted.

He threw her forward and she hit the ground hard, she could feel that one of her ribs likely cracked. She was stunned by the action and by the impact. He stood up, standing above her he moaned and growled. He made noises like a wounded animal crying out in pain. He reached down and lifted her by the shoulders roughly, bringing her to meet his eyes.

"How could you? How could you treat me this way!" he cried out. She could see the tears that fell down his face, she could hear the genuine pain in his voice dancing with the anger. She just didn't understand why.

"I don't know what you're talking about. Please, Wally, please just calm down, we can talk about whatev-"she pleaded with him, trying to sooth him. He threw her down again cutting off her words. He growled angrily.

He moved around the room hitting and kicking things, knocking over books and artwork. His lightning speed and the sounds he made, angry snarls, thick growls, Raven felt like she was trapped, she feared to make a move. He came back to her, stood above her again. He knelt down on one knee and reached a shaking hand out to her chin, instinctively she pulled away.

"You're afraid of me?" he asked, but there was no concern in his voice, no sadness at the thought of her fear. It was angry, filled with a rage she had never expected from him mixing with something crazed like a wild animal that is trapped and desperate for an escape. He reached out and grabbed her chin roughly, she could feel the bruises that would eventually form.

"Why are you afraid of me Raven!? Why? I'm a hero! A hero! That's what you keep saying, I'm an amazing hero who can do so much good in the world, so why are you afraid?!" he shouted at her.

She closed her eyes, she didn't know what to do. She was scared, she was concerned. This wasn't the Wally West she knew, there was clearly something wrong with him but she didn't know what. Suddenly he pulled her tightly to him holding her in a rough embrace pinning her arms down making it impossible to push him away.

"Why am I doing this?" he whispered and she found herself surprised again at the change in his voice. "I don't understand what is happening to me." He was afraid. His voice shook and came out quietly as though he feared the angry part of him would hear him and return. His body shook against her and she knew he was crying. She moved her hand to touch his back as best she could, trying to offer a comforting touch.

"Ssh Wally. It's ok. I'm here." She didn't understand what was happening, the emotions she was feeling from him were so mixed and muddled she couldn't read them clearly, they felt wrong. He cried harder and held her tighter.

"Who am I? This isn't me!" he spat in an angry sadness. He felt heavy in her arms.

"Why won't it stop, why won't it go away. I can't sleep. I can't eat. Why? Why is this happening? I don't want it, I don't feel this way." He sounded desperate, scared.

"It's ok, it's ok Wally. I'll help you, we'll figure out what's wrong, I promise." She whispered. What had happened to him?

"We'll figure out what's wrong?" his voice changed again, it wasn't sad or scared, it was chilling.

Before she could react his hands moved up her back and held her head between them. One hand moved around grabbing the base of her jaw, using his thumb he forced her to look at him leaving his ring finger and pinky partially wrapping at her throat. The fingers of his other hand wound tightly in her hair pulling until she gasped in a combination of fear and surprise. The moonlight streaming into the room caught his eyes, she saw a look she had never seen before on one of her friends, but one that had become familiar to her in the last fights she had participated in. There was madness swimming in him, dancing around his pupils and playing with his emotions. His lips curled into a crooked smile.

"What's wrong with me Raven, is that you are a liar!" He screamed tugging at her hair until she let out a soft cry. "You tell me you need me, act like I am important, that it has to be me. But behind my back you go to Speedy, you flirt with Robin!"

Raven's eyes widened in shock. Did he have feelings for her? He had never seemed to before, the emotions he gave off had always been friendly nothing more. He loved Jinx, this didn't make sense.

"No..no..no, no, NO!" He shouted releasing her hair and pushing her down on the ground hard, her shoulder hit first and made a distinct sound sending spiraling pain through her body. He reached up and grabbed his head, he held it roughly like he was in pain he looked down to the ground but she knew if she could see his eyes the tears would be falling again. "Why..why is this happening!" he fell to his knees. "This is all wrong.. this is wrong. Why.. why can't I make it stop!"

He was crying out, this was Wally, this was her friend. What had happened to him? She sat up. It was painful, her arm had been dislocated she held it protectively to her chest.

"Wally, try to keep calm. I don't know what happened, but you aren't well. If you stay calm we can go to the Justice League, I'm sure John Jones will be able to help." She said trying to keep her voice calm and soothing. In her mind she was trying to stay calm, trying to focus on pulling together the energy she needed for the task at hand.

His hands dropped to his sides. His head and shoulders were still drooped down like he was crying, but she felt the slight shift in the muddled emotions, she felt where the confusion and sadness became overruled by the cold anger.

"John Jones?" he let out a bitter chuckle. "How many men do you have Raven? How many do you need before you are satisfied!" he screamed and then charged at her with his super speed.

He caught her and pushed her along the floor of her bedroom until her shoulders hit the side of her bed, she screamed out in pain as the fire lit in her shoulder.

"Every day and every night there is only Raven, all I ever see is Raven, she is everywhere." He still held her tightly in place but this voice was that of the sadness and confusion. "Why are you all I see? Why are you everywhere I go?"

"You belong to me and only me!" shouted the cold anger. His face twisted into an angry snarl, and she knew that Wally was lost. He moved his forehead to rest against hers and whispered "You won't leave me again Raven, every part of you belongs to me."

Raven closed her eyes feeling tears fall. Her heart was breaking for her friend, his mind was broken and she knew somehow it was her fault. She had to find a way to help him, but first she needed to escape the current danger, and unfortunately that meant she had to hurt him again.

"I am so sorry Wally. I will give you a part of me." Her voice was sad and shaky, he moved his head away from hers to look at her, and he was smiling, a happy smile, a joyful childish smile. The madness in him was satisfied and thought that she would be his, she closed her eyes sadly and raised her hand to his temple.

His smile vanished almost instantly, a look of fear spread across his face, his eyes widened in horror and then he screamed.

A few hours later…..

"I see." Said John Jones looking down at the room below him. There on a bed sat a boy curled up tightly with his knees to his chest, his eyes darting around the room desperately searching, looking to see if something was coming for him. Wally had been given a sedative but his fear was preventing it from working.

"Do you understand what has happened to him?" John asked.

"I broke his mind." Said a sad voice behind John. Raven stepped forward and looked down into the room at her friend. Her arm was in a sling, she had two broken ribs and deep bruising on her back. She would heal, but at the moment she didn't have to focus to do so.

"I meant before you saw him today."

"So did I." she replied. She turned and moved away from the window. "I don't know what happened. Every other time, when we were fighting it seemed like I enhanced the anger and aggression of those we fought, like I just amplified the emotions they already had. But with Wally, I don't know. Somehow I forced myself into his mind?"

John was quiet for a while, he seemed to be thinking over what she said.

"He won't be able to leave until his mind is stable. It would be best if you also did not leave until we can truly understand what has happened and whether or not you are a danger to anyone else." He said.

Raven nodded. She knew this was a possibility before she had come. While she knew this made her a prisoner she didn't want to risk hurting anyone else. If the Justice League decided that she was too much of a risk to every set free, she would accept their judgment without argument.

"All that I ask is that you not tell my team what is happening until those answers are found." She said.

"We will tell them you have been given a special assignment. They need not know anything else." Replied John.

There was silence between them, Raven turned to leave and find a place to meditate when John spoke.

"When we have spoken previously you mentioned that Wally was chosen to join the Titans team in Europe but he was hesitant to join. That you were trying to help him weigh the options. Tell me, what was your preference?"

"I wanted him to join. I thought it would be best for all concerned."

"Has Wally ever had feelings for you?"

"I don't think so, he loves Jinx. But, honestly, I don't know for sure."

"Then tell me what you do know. What did you give him that broke him in the end?" John asked, adding, "I will do what I can to repair the damage, to help him find himself again. But I must know what I will face."

Raven looked down at the ground.

"It was only an echo." She whispered.

"An echo that broke his mind." He said.

She nodded sadly, she knew the risk when she had given it to him. But she hadn't expected this. She had already hurt him so much without meaning to, but this she had chosen.

"I showed him the part of me that will always be Trigon's daughter."
