Candles

"Soul, blow out the candles!" He had no clue when or where this absurd tradition of small colorful candles on a piece of frosted cake came from, but when his little one had decided to celebrate his birthday this was what she had come up with. It was a pretty cake, she'd spent a long time making it and the sugary scent had hung in the air the whole time. Soul shot Maka a look at reached forward to pinch out the candle closest to him.

"That's cheating! You have to blow and then you make a wish! That's how birthday cakes work!"

"Little one, I am a dragon. I breathe fire. Kind of hard to blow out candles."

Maka faltered, "Wait…oh." She pouted and stared at the little dancing flames.

"Can you do it for me?" Soul asked gently wanting to try and keep her happy.

"Okay, but you have to make a wish, alright?" He nodded and couldn't help but smile at the way Maka had puffed her cheeks out. She blew out across all the candles, each little light going out.

Soul didn't really need to make a wish; he'd already gotten it. She was sitting next to him beaming. "Thank you, little one." He kissed her temple and wrapped an arm around her.

"All I did was blow out the candles you silly fire breathing lizard. Let's have some cake."

Hide Me

"Soul? Where have you gone?"

Shit. He wasn't sure he was ready to be found just yet, she was probably still in the shirt she'd stolen from him. Perhaps hiding under a blanket in the nest was not his best plan…Soul just hoped he was not the most conspicuous lump in the nest. There should be more pillows and rumpled blankets to hide him, though maybe if he lay a little flatter he would disappear completely (one of little one's favorite games just happened to be The Dragon Cannot Fine Me Because I Am Flat in the Nest! It was not Soul's favorite game though).

Maka smiled at the lump of dragon in the nest and quietly sat down in front of it to pull back the blanket. "There you are, silly dragon." Soul blinked comically for a moment, trying to adjust his eyes to the sudden light. "Why are you hiding?"

It was very hard to resist pouting at her. Little one had no clue that he had been forced to hide because she was too damn adorable for her own good. If he hadn't hidden he would have had to cuddle her! And little one did not enjoy being cuddled unexpectedly while reading. He got yelled at for it. "Come on out?" Maka asked, trying to not smile. Her dragon was incredibly silly and very precious all bundled up and hidden away, but he was being very silly indeed.

He drew back and tried to cover himself again with the blanket. Little one was mocking him. And she was still in his shirt as he had feared. The nest would keep him safe.

"Alright, Soul." She sighed and Soul thought that he was going to be left alone. He was very wrong. Maka shimmied down under the blanket right next to him and smiled at his dismayed face. "Hello, silly dragon." He may or may not have blushed a little when she kissed his forehead and wrapped her arms around his head to hold him against her.

The sigh he let go was warm across her skin, even though the shirt she was wearing and Soul finally let himself relax until he was purring while he dozed. She wasn't clear as to why he'd been hiding, but Maka suspected it had been something to do with her.

Her dragon was very silly.

Waltz

"Have you ever been to a ball?" Maka looked up from her book, she had just read the most romantic scene in a book where a mysterious man danced with a princess, but he was actually her lover in disguise. The dragon scoffed and sent her a lighthearted glare. "Hush your princely-ness. I was just asking. I had only been to a small dance before I was stolen away by a certain dragon."

"I did not steal you away, little one."

"You most certainly did. And to make it up to me, you're going to dance with me." She marked her spot, put the book down, and marched over to the begrudgingly amused dragon.

"Am I now?" Soul stood when she tugged on his hand.

"Yes, you are." She faltered, unsure of where to put his hands, but determined to dance with him. Soul smiled, pulled her close and began to gently lead her in a slow dance.

"I suppose," He teased, "since you insisted, little one." Soul had come to terms with the fact that he was completely wrapped around her little finger, he just hoped that Maka didn't realize just how absurdly devoted he was to her.

They danced lazily around the cave, to the crackle of the fire and the beat lot their hearts. She leaned on Soul, until they were just swaying back and forth, embracing. She was hardly dressed to dance, though neither was he, and the cave was hardly a grand ballroom, though it felt so much richer and vibrant. "Thank you for humoring me, Soul."

"I should be thanking you for the dance, little one." He raised one of her hands to brush a gentle kiss to her knuckles. "Thank you, my lady." Souls eyes were sincere as he seemed to look into her soul.

Maka stood stunned, her face aflame, and her heart threatening to beat right out of her chest. "You're welcome, Soul."

He had whiskers. Well, not really whiskers, but pale scruff on his jaw that would tickle her while they slept. The dragon liked to tuck her under his chin and wrap his arms around her to keep her warm and close when they slept together. It was a little rough, but never harsh on her skin. But this was just ridiculous. "Soul, hehe, Soul! Wake up! Haha, please oh goodness!"

He'd started to purr and nuzzle her while sleeping and it had been fine at first, right until he had shifted and his scruff had started to tickle her neck. "Soul it tickles! Dragon! Hahaha!" She dissolved into giggles and tried to wriggle her way out of his arms but she was too wrapped up in him and the nest to escape.

Soul smiled and continued to pretend to sleep, he loved listening to his little one laugh.
