Yeah so the update took much longer than expected and again I apologize but I had a lot of things to do personally.
But here we find ourselves in a climatic chapter, I did a lot of thinking on this because I wanted to give you readers a great chapter full of surprises and emotional rollercoasters and I wanted to get straight to the point with the action, no going around in circles.
*Yes this chapter contains quite the bloody battle so you have been warned! Anyways, enjoy! :)

Chapter 26: Untimely…
Year: August 1932
Axel scurried up the stairs, each step was worth time - time that could be used to save Evangeline from a possible injury and or death. Halfway up the staircase he met up with Erin who was running down, stuffing his arm through the armhole of his jacket, his expression beyond stressed. Both men looked at each other communicating anguish and an agreement to help Evangeline with whatever they could and they ran down together.
"I have already informed the men and my family is safe. We need only be ready." Erin's pace became faster on the final stair curb.
Although a crashing noise not only shook their concentration but the house's very foundation, they hurried their pace further but it was inevitable to catch the sight of Evangeline through the large window. Hearts stopped as they saw her tumbling hard on the grass and jumping back up in a defensive state with guns lifted. In seconds they saw her response, the harsh noise of bullets wrung in the air. Varrick was her opponent, avoiding the rain of bullets with his inhuman speed.
Soon Axel felt someone grab his forearm, it was hard to tear his gaze from the assault Evangeline was suffering but it wasn't until Erin screamed, "we must make haste!" That the inspector ran down the last plight of stairs with him. As he opened the door to the outside and ran the other direction he hoped that the scream he had just heard emanate from Evangeline was one of triumph and not injury.
"When you are here like this with me I feel complete." Varrick strode toward her, her semblance was pale and the slash marks on her arm was oozing blood making Varrick's grin widen. He looked at her and then toward the forest and began to laugh. "No one will interrupt us now, the cavalry has just arrived." He had brought forth his army of undead minions to occupy the area, blood should fill the Hellsing's land, he mused to himself.
Evangeline placed her right hand above her wounds halting the blood flow slightly with her hand pressure. Yes she was in pain, but she dare not give him the ample satisfaction of seeing her suffer. "I wouldn't want anyone to interrupt us anyways, only you need die." She glared keeping her stance firm but another pang of darkness hit her, there were ghouls hiding in the forest awaiting his single command. She held steady still, knowing all that was left was to trust in the ability of those she had looked after and trained.
"You are so cocky my sweet. That's a new trait I like in you," he closed the distance in a blink of an eye. Yanking on her injured arm to bring her forth; earning him the delight of hearing her squeal in pain at his touch. "I dare say you are too confident, you're already bleeding, deliciously I might add. What makes you think you can best me alone?" He twisted her arm just to see more of the red liquid pour from her wound and to see her face shift with pain.
Though again Evangeline proved herself resilient to the torture, keeping calm at his attempt to hurt her even if he held steadfast to her. "For that very reason." She shoved him away, he let her escape his grasp just to see her on the ground once again.
"Don't play yourself up. You are bleeding, beneath me, I am not the former." His ruby eyes twinkled in delight.
She rose to meet his challenge, "but you will be, you will lose so much more than that." She pointed her gun at him, "you may have ghouls, you may be strong but you are the only vampire here. Don't think much of the reinforcements that have arrived, those who have come are nothing." She stated and even managed to chuckle, "if Alucard had failed, you're entire coven would have swarmed us." A few tears escaped her eyes, "but he did rid me of most of them and I repeat to you," She pulled the trigger and he managed to avoid it but wherever he appeared she would be waiting for him. "You will die before me. As you are the one who's truly alone!" She claimed.
The sadistic Vampire laughed her threat off.
She kept her gun raised, "so you think I haven't learned anything, do you?" She knew it would take more than one blow to end Varrick as there was no denying he had grown to be a powerful vampire. Though she knew behind the exterior was a vulnerable interior. The Huntress would eat around his strength, chisel away to reach his core like he had done with her in every encounter since he had decided to pester her existence.
His maniacal laugh continued to echo, "I know you haven't the slightest idea of how to hurt me, words are meaningless now as I came here to play with you and nothing you say or do will sway your end." He disappeared and Evangeline for a moment could concentrate on her surroundings.
There were gunshots being heard all around, the mingling of inhuman and human screams consumed the night. Her men were well trained and she knew Erin was there, with the support of Axel the estate would be alright.
She brought her focus back to the crux of her situation. Her injury was still oozing badly but she couldn't afford to stop and mend it. Instead she went back to her foundations as a Huntress: to block everything except her prey out. She took a deep breath and centered her mind on Varrick. His aura was all over the place, his emotions in a mix. He was indecisive, he showed arrogance only to cover up his thoughtfulness on her words. He was waiting for a moment to strike yet he was tempted to go confront her men to hurt her, yet the scent of her blood drove him mad keeping him hidden but near her.
She smiled as his movements and mind became erratic, she took advantage of this to head into Wingates forest. The place was full of hindrances, it wouldn't give the crazed vampire much room to act but she had to be mindful of her own action as one false move from her and the match would be won by her foe.
Varrick upon seeing her retreat gave chase and as he did he noticed a trail of dust and blood. A he circled around, he found her tearing through some of his ghoulish minions with her sword. He believed her to be too distracted with her current enemy to see him coming for her but Evangeline had baited him this way.
As she ripped the ghoul from his head down to his mid-rift Varrick lunged at her and he had failed to see that in her other hand was her pistol aimed at him. She fired multiple shots, most of them connecting and collectively wounding the vampire and also managed to send him flying back upon bullet impact. A hiss of anger consumed the forest but once again he left her line of sight.
She puffed out warm air from her lungs, mingling with the freezing atmosphere causing mist to be emitted. "Whatever is the matter with you tonight Varrick? Why are you hiding, weren't you in control?" She kept to the edge of the forest as the moon could still penetrate the outskirts of it enabling her to still see clearly.
"Oh I am." He murmured but as she did, she felt his footsteps crunch the dirt. He was running to her and his breathing was ragged and he sounded much more feral. Her first instinct telling her to get off the ground. She quickly lunged at the nearest tree and scrambled up but not before catching eye of the large wolf-like creature that nearly got her foot, but as she tried to ascend further Varrick shifted form and reached out with his icy fingers to grab her unprotected neck. She was lifted onto the second highest branch on the old oak tree being strangled by the crazed vampire. "I hope this is high enough for you." She reached for her gun but as she did Varrick's other hand stopped her, "not this time." Again his eyes focused on her neck, how her hair clung to her sweating skin; how it emitted the sweet smell that he had lusted after for years. "I've wanted this for so long, you will belong to me."
"Never." She choked and glared at him defiantly even if her vision was hazed. He chuckled at her remark and at his triumph over Alucard but as his teeth loomed over her skin, a loud snap came from below them. Varrick shuddered letting go of Evangeline.
Axel had noticed the quarrel above and took a chance, aiming with his blessed weapon and firing, the bullets slamming into his cousin's back.
"Evangeline!" Axel called out to her. She glanced down at him and he motioned for her to jump down, his arms were open and awaiting her but she couldn't. She had to take advantage of the distracted Varrick and finish this. From her jacket she pulled out stake and lunged at the agonizing Varrick. His pain was subsiding and he began to apply himself to his surroundings, his eyes jolting onto the object in Evangeline's hand. She was much too close for him to dodge in that moment but he twisted his body so the blow wouldn't touch his heart. The stake managed to plunge itself into his side and as she did connect the blow to his body he pulled the Huntress down with him, letting her drop to the ground before him.
The fall wasn't enough to kill her, but still her it would. She fell onto her already battered left arm and the impact had taken her voice and a few seconds later her consciousness. Axel watched in horror as Evangeline ceased to move and Varrick loomed closer to her with stake in hand but stopped to acknowledge him.
Axel didn't dare approach either of them in fear of provoking Varrick into his deadly pursuit of the women he loved.
Varrick could hear his cousin's thoughts quite clearly and the prospect of hearing of how he referred to Evangeline halted him. Axel's words stopped him as he entertained his thoughts, "why do we still follow her?" It was evident that Evangeline had turned a blind eye to their affections yet here they found themselves bound to be always around her.
Axel took a few discreet steps forward as he spoke to the now docile vampire, "you don't follow, from what I've seen you've stalked her since she was a child and now as a monster you've hunted her. You want to see her permanently close her eyes." Axel knew he pushed him with his words, as Varrick's eyes called out for blood but the inspector knew if it came to it, he would lay his life to protect her.
Instead Varrick's attention was even more engrossed by his words and thoughts. "Why did that method worked for Alucard? How dare she chose him over me?" Varrick understood that she had been around Alucard all her life yet in similar fashion he pursued her and ultimately won her over and he simply didn't understand.
"She chose him over us because the heart wants what it wants. Alucard wove his way into her heart from what I can understand as kindness." The last thing Axel believed he would ever do was be on Alucard's side, defending him against Varrick of all people. Although what he spoke was the truth as the way Evangeline spoke of her vampire was nothing but praise and adoration, much to his dismay.
"But he's a monster!" Varrick snapped. His growl echoed through the forest. He seemed like a child throwing a tantrum.
"Not to her." Again he defended Alucard.
"But to you and I he is." Varrick recalled the assault on his coven. While the plan of having everyone risk their lives for the chance to hurt the grand vampire lay in motion Varrick couldn't help but see how he tore through them, with a gleeful madness and prowess that his mistress deemed beyond even him.
"You've proven to be quite the monster yourself." Axel murmured. He noticed Varrick hesitate, deliberating his next move but he had to interfere as he noticed Evangeline begin to twitch slightly. "Step away from her now." He had to buy her time.
His words bringing him back to this plain, "or what cousin?" He noticed Axel's fingers reach for the button that kept his pistol pocketed. "You'll shoot me, why not instead of fighting me you join me. I'm sure my master, Daciana would approve of you and then we will never be denied anything ever again." He gave him a toothy grin.
"Is that what she made you feel?" Axel said amazed, had his cousin really felt alone since his father died, that nothing had been enough for him? Had Evangeline with her denial of him, been his final step back?
"Or you can chose to fight me as well." Varrick threw the stake at him, as he noticed his cousin make no try to near him. "If you think you can." He seemed to disregard Evangeline for a moment and turn his full attention on the inspector.
He saw Evangeline begin to stir again, he had to buy her more time. Axel made no effort to unholster his weapon, nor pick up the stake that Varrick had tossed him instead he walked closer to him. "I can tell you – you lost far more when you joined her." He sighed truly pitying the beast before him. "My parents loved you like a son, did they not welcome you when your father died and your mother had no mind for nothing else? Did you not like my company either?" Nearly the same age, they had gotten along well so again, he pitied the descent of his closest relative even if many tragedies had been caused because of him.
"SHUT UP!" Varrick hissed, his aura of darkness shining through, his feral attempt to kill lingering in his gaze.
Evangeline had regained control of her mind and her body. She could see Varrick begin his attempt to confront Axel who didn't seem concerned with the impending attack. His worry had subsided as he looked into her eyes now, his message clear: Varrick is vulnerable when distracted, we must act now.
Even as she lay, she was close enough to reach Varrick, promptly reaching for her sword she swiped it across taking with it one of his legs. The Vampire howled in pain as blood begin to splatter on the ground and before he could turn around to even look at Evangeline, Axel raised his pistol and landed many shots on Varrick, carving his chest with holes.
The once articulate Varrick turned around to face Evangeline who had her own gun raised and placed her gun over his heart, letting her firearm unload. The rapid torrent of bullets ripping through his chest rendered him unable to heal let alone move.
When her weapon unloaded the last of its bullets, he kneeled before her on the ground. "I never wanted this to be your fate but you left me – us no choice." She had her sword firmly in her grasp. The Huntress hesitated for a moment and he saw where her mind had wandered to. Turning into the child she once was and remembering that moment, their first encounter so many years ago, the way she viewed him and her thought: I wish him well.
"So long my angel of death." He kept his gaze on her as she brought down the fatal weapon. With all her might Evangeline swung her sword one final time, cleaving off the vampires head. She quickly took out a bottle from her torn jacket and poured it over the pieces of Varrick. Setting them aflame with a match moments later.
When ashes were all that remained of Varrick Axel reached for her. Taking Evangeline into his arms knowing that having done this had been difficult but it was over. "Well that's that." He murmured still keeping a protective arm around her, "we must get you a doctor." She seemed calm for the moment but the fact that her left arm was still bleeding and how she made no effort to move it made him hasten the pace.
"Axel thank you." Everything was quiet and it made her hesitant to continue walking, the aura of hatred not entirely gone. "Is everyone alright?" She leaned further into Axel's support, exhaustion wanting to succumb her.
"Yes, everyone is fine, your team isn't without it's injuries but they all lived. Erin is well and your family is safely inside." They were nearing the hill that oversees the estate grounds when Evangeline turned swiftly around spinning him with her.
"For now but once I'm done with you, everyone will be dead." A distance away from them was a woman crouching, in her hands she played with Varrick's ashes, seeing how the gray material streamed from her hand to the ground; she turned a blazing eye to them.
"Daciana…" Axel breathed, for who else could it be but the woman Varrick had spoken of. He tried shielding Evangeline but in a flash he was soon forced aside, he slammed into a nearby tree and felt his torso cry and crack in pain. He found himself unable to move and all he could do was see Evangeline's struggle: a gunshot and blood but the impact didn't halt Daciana. He tried to scream at Daciana to not take Evangeline but there was nothing his pain let him say or do to help. All he could do was watch helplessly as the Vampiress dragged Evangeline off far beyond his sight and hearing.
Daciana wanted Evangeline to feel just as alone as she was now, purposely taking her deeper into Wingates forest.
Slamming her against a tree one too many times, the furious Vampiress spat words of hatred at the young woman. "You took the last of my coven." She slapped Evangeline across the face leaving her with cat-like claw marks on her cheek and when she was about to strike her again something swooped down interrupting the assault.
Daciana scrambled to get the cawing creature away from her and Evangeline raised her revolver. "Thank you Mina." She murmured and landed several shots on the distracted Vampire. The huntress took full advantage of Mina's distraction but even though there were several holes in Daciana's body, the Vampiress's healing abilities made the bullets leave her body. She soon caught Mina and now held a steadfast grip on Evangeline and her bird.
She stared curiously at the bird, a white raven and it's name bringing back memories, reminiscing on things that brought her near total demise. Daciana's frozen hands wrapped around the white raven and clasped it with her claws using deadly force, she let it's remnant fall to the ground with a sloshing noise. In her mind she only wished she could had done that to the real Mina but it was priceless to see the expression of grief on the once stone cold Huntress.
"Now you pay the price with your blood as well." She had picked up a stake she found near Varrick's ashes and decided to use it, in this ironic twist it would be her - a vampire that would impale the Huntress. She cackled while thrusting it ahead toward Evangeline's heart but something that was even too quick for the Huntress's tired eyes to capture appeared before the two battle engrossed women.
A darkness shielded Evangeline, she saw a dark clothed body receive the hit, his face smiling toward her, reassuring that it would be okay. The stake breached further than he expected and as he pushed Evangeline away he noticed that there was a gaping hole in her chest, her honey eyes starring in a mirroring, silent disbelief as she fell back onto the ground.
He roared at seeing Evangeline sprawled on the grass, beneath her coating the ground in her crimson life. Alucard finished pulling out the large stake from his chest, the hole in his body healing as the sharp item left him and he turned to face Daciana.
In the time they had spent battling together, in her frozen illusion not once had the Vampiress shown any amount of fear for his disposition, be it the horde of monsters he unleashed upon her coven and her. His power great and near overwhelming but not frightening, he seemed at peace as he slaughtered her minions but now, the look he wore made her take a step back, "no more…" He growled through sharpened teeth.
His voice made the cruel blonde smile, "that's right she is no more, I win Alucard." She mocked, regaining her confidence as he appeared defeated.
Then he smiled, "Did you really win?" He began to take slow shuffling steps toward Daciana, his dark hair covered most of his face as he approached her but there were visible traces of blood trailing down to his chin and he still wore a toothy smile. "I thought the battle was until the last one standing." A reddening aura began to encapsulate him, besides hearing Daciana's shrill scream of anger directed at his words, he could also hear Evangeline still breathing and feel her desire to end this even though she could not do it herself. Simultaneously his shadow arms reached out for Daciana but her own obscurities protected her from his onslaught. The arms continued to force their way too her, trying to find any fissure in her defense to get to the Vampiress.
"Why do you continue this, it's done, she's done!" Her arms broke through his and she scurried in the other direction but then she noticed thousands of blazing eyes pursuing her and ultimately one of Alucard's arms wrapped around her fleeing figure and dragged her back, hitting against whatever was in its way.
When Daciana was finally before him, he couldn't help but laugh at her ragged appearance, his dark arms were clutching her body, his energy preventing her from healing. "You pathetic creature, did you really think you would win?!" He laughed louder consumed with hysteria at her logic, his arms brought her to level with him – so they could see eye to eye.
Daciana was a commendable foe, having had many followers that had fought and died for her, she had been a force to be reckoned with but, this was it. Her time was up and she knew it... "What are you going to do now, take my blood?" She questioned.
He moved near her and inhaled her scent, earning her a scoff of distaste, "you think I would drink you dry when filth runs through your veins?! You really think too high of yourself." She wriggled in his hold but instead more hands came forth to hold her in place, not even her aura could save her now. She had been ever so good all her life at running but once caught was just as useless as a ghoul and the thought brought him some comfort. "I'll just say this, nobody will remember you, let alone find anything of you left behind."
He quickly settled his fangs into her neck like a sharp knife, cutting through and yanking her head off. He spat making sure not to swallow any of her filthy blood. His dark arms soon took care of the rest of her body, shredding it apart into so many intricate pieces like an endless puzzle. His thousands of arm taking an individual piece of the once Daciana and bursting into flames as they descended back into hell itself.
He quickly wiped whatever blood was left on his face and went over to Evangeline who was gasping for air. He took her into his arms and rested her head against his forearm letting her blood rush down preventing her affixation. The wound was large and the placement was enough to kill her painfully, not to mention he felt other things broken inside her.
Alucard tried not to dwell on these facts and sought her gaze as he had a solution to this but as he saw her in such a state it was hard for him to find the words. "Evangeline, my dearest love." His hand cupped her tear stained cheeks, "it's over."
She smiled for a moment but then her expression was taken over by the immense pain but she too had some words left to say. She controlled the shudder that wanted to consume her and lay as steady as she could in his arms. "Run, leave now." Something warm trickled out her mouth but it was wiped away by Vlad's hand. "I don't want you caught and-" she huffed and her body contorted as the pain was becoming too grand and breathing became more of a pain than a necessity.
"Something can be done." He held her to him, bringing his lips to her ears and trailing down to hover over her neck.
"Vlad I don't want them to blame you for this." They could hear people nearing the forest, they had come to retrieve her. "I wanted to see you." He let her go so she could look at him. They had been apart for so long, longer than any other time but under these circumstances it felt like another goodbye and ironically it was she who was leaving.
He shook her slightly feeling her fade. "Let me, don't act if nothing can be done to save you." She stared at him blankly but her mind seemed distant now, "please." He begged, his crimson tears streamed down as she didn't answer or care to express anything else."
"My love don't cry you promised me… My Vlad…" She whispered.
He could hear her heart beat give a lurching thud and by the sound of it she only had two left and he refused the outcome that came with the impending final thud. She kept her eyes on him even as the glow of life began to fade… thud…"I'm a selfish creature after all." Thu – crunch…
