Chapter 26: Red Handed
Jack O'Conner grinned as, over the noise of people chattering and the music that was blaring from his "Beats" speaker, the doorbell rang.
It was half past 9 and his house was full. His party was officially a success.
His mom and dad were gone for the night, so as long as he cleaned up before they arrived back the following day, it'd be all good.
He passed the kitchen where there was a drunken teenage version of "twister hoopla" being played. He had to laugh when he saw that his best mate Damian "Speed" Speedle was being beaten by his girlfriend Lauren.
"Boo!"
He turned at the voice and smiled at his own girlfriend, Grace.
"Hey babe"
"You know your party kicks ass but if your parents find out…"
"They won't don't worry… have you seen my sister?"
"Yep… She's out back talking to Steph"
"Steph. Steph as in Anderson? As in, our Steph?"
"One and the same, Why?"
"No reason…Can think of worse guys to be holding her attention"
"Ain't that the truth… And no, she's not drinking, not as far as I could tell anyway"
"Good"
"Wanna play Twister hoopla?"
"The game that Speed is currently losing at?"
"Yea, come it'll be fun… your sister's fine…"
She gave him the puppy dog eyes and he caved within seconds
"Ok, ok, lead the way Carter"
She grinned and took him by the hand, leading him back to the kitchen
Casey Toretto looked at her phone at quarter to midnight and saw her mom's face on the screen. She chewed her lip as she thought about not answering, before she had flash backs to 6 months previously when Jessica had done that very thing and their whole family went into meltdown.
"Hey mom!"
"Case you ok?"
"Yea"
"Still with Jess?"
"Uhhh yea…" she cringed as she lied to her mom
Just at that, someone passing felt the need to yell
"Great party O'Conner!"
Casey winced, there was no way her mom never heard that
"Party?! Case tell me there is NOT party going on at your aunt and uncles?!"
"I could…but you told me not lie"
"Stay there"
She hung up.
"Fuck"
She pocketed her phone and went to find Jack
She went through the whole house before finding him out the back with Jess, Grace, Speed, Lauren and Steph
"Cuz we got a problem…mom knows"
"Shit!"
Five minutes later, Jack and Jess were herding people out the front door when Dom and Letty appeared.
"Caught red handed you lot"
After the house was empty, Jess, Jack and Casey were sitting side by side on the couch with Dom and Letty standing staring at them
"Seriously guys?"
"It's my fault Aunt Letty"
It was Jess who had spoken. Jack looked at her, but she kept her eyes on her aunt and uncle.
"I honestly don't care who's fault it is, you're all here, you're all to blame" Dom said, arms folding over chest
"And YOU, Casey Mia Toretto, should know better"
"Guys look, you have a shit load less rules than most, but instead of sneaking about just ask us. You keep making shit hard for yourselves. If you guys wanted a party, ask. Hell, we would have cleared out for you. Your parents would probably have said yes" Dom said sitting down and looking each of them in the eye
"We're sorry. Really sorry" Casey spoke up and Jess and Jack nodded
"Clean this up, then get your asses back to ours, I'm not gonna tell Mia and Brian about this, but you guys should."
"Yea, that's on you guys" Dom threw in
It was after half 1 before the three of them entered through the Toretto front door. They crashed out not long after, and when Jacks phone rang it was 10am the following day
"Jack? Where are you guys?!"
"Mom, calm down we're at aunt Let and uncle Dom's"
"Why?! What happened? What's wrong?"
"Mom, everything's ok, but can you guys come here?"
"Yea we'll be there in 10"
Fifteen minutes later there was a weird recreation of the previous night happening in the Toretto's living room, with Brian and Mia standing over the three teenagers seated side by side
"A party?"
"Aunt Letty and Uncle Dom weren't gonna tell you"
"They said we should"
"And we figured you guys had a right to know"
"Mom, it was my fault. It was my party" Jess repeated her words from the previous night
"I personally don't care who's party it was. It was a PARTY"
"Why didn't you guys just ask?" Brian sighed
"Uncle Dom said that"
"Guys, you gotta start thinking ahead"
"So what's our punishment"
"I'm tired of handing them out.. you guys get a pass this time, but rest assured it's a one time get out of jail free card"
"You serious?"
"Yes. One. Time. Only." Brian reiterated, with a pointed look
Later that night, Jack opened his sister's room door and leaned against the frame
"Hey, sis?"
"Yea?"
"Why'd you take the blame?"
"Huh?"
"For the party, you told Aunt Let and Uncle D, then mom and dad that it was your party... why?"
"Because I figured that they'd lose the plot and you were there for me so I was willing to be there for you"
"What are you talking about?"
"The whole deal with Cody"
"You're my sister, of course I was gonna be there for you"
"Yea?"
"Yea"
"Well, ditto bro"
"Thanks lil sis..."
"Anytime"
"Can you believe they didn't lose it?"
"No, Casey said she had to clean the bathroom too"
Jack grinned at that. His phone pinged in his pocket and he grinned again as he read the text
"Hey sis…?"
"Yea?"
"You remember Steph from last night?"
"Course" she smiled
"He's asking for your number"
"What, seriously?"
"Yep…"
"He's your mate… wouldn't you mind?"
"No."
"Really?"
"Yea. Coz I know he'd never pull a Cody"
"Ugh don't remind me"
"So is it ok if I give him it?"
"Yea… go for it"
"'Kay…hey ice cream and a horror?"
"I'm game"
"I'll get the ice cream"
"Thanks bro"
As jack turned to go downstairs for the ice cream, strawberry of course, he heard his sister's phone ping and he couldn't stop the smile that appeared on his face.
