Jessica's POV
I didn't even know that it was Kevin. I thought that is was some bad dream and that some monster was going to eat me. Now I wish that it had been a nightmare.
At the moment I was watching Emily do examination after examination on Kevin, tests to make sure that what Kevin did last night was the end of it. Marcas was standing right next to me and Phil was sewing up the place on my shoulder where Kevin munched down.
Let me say that it wasn't without pain. Kevin dug deep last night doing what he did. He went straight through muscle and tissue, almost going as far as my shoulder blade, but he didn't go that far. This whole time I had thought of him as some big, fluffy, dog that could talk and I had never thought that I would see him in this light.
Even under the sedatives that Emily gave him he was still struggling against the restraints, so thats why John and Phil were standing in the room. Out of the corner of my eye I could see Marcas looking at me occasionaly. He was probably thinking about why Kevin did what he did and the damage that could have been done. Imagine if Kevin did do something. Would Marcas snap and kill him?
Just imagining that made me shiver.
"Jessica." he said as he sat in the chair next to me. "Have a seat."
"Thanks, but I think that I need to stand."
"Jessica I wasn't asking I was ordering you to sit down."
"Sorry but I think that I'm fine."
Then my knees proved me wrong. My knees, out of nowhere, decided to buckle and I collapsed on the ground. Marcas was there before my head could hit the floor, picked me up, and put me in my seat. For some reason I felt tingly. It was a funny feeling, but I didn't really want to laugh.
The door to the room opened and the sound of scaled feet went across the floor. Drak, the giant lizard-man walked right in front of me and held a flashlight to my eye.
"What are you doing?" asked Marcas.
"I'm examining her." her replied.
"You know how to do that?" I asked.
"Yes I do. Its standard for all members of the Draganian military to have some medical training and knowhow of Draganian and Klausian physiology."
"Well how am I doing doc?" I asked in boston accent.
"You've been marked."
"She's been what?" asked Macrcas.
"Marked. What the Klausian did last night was a sign of intimacy, and it also means that he chose her to be his mate for the month of fertility."
"So what do do?" Marcas asked again.
"We can't do anything. Right now she has Klausian pheremones mixing with her human nervous system which isn't good. That bite basically injected a biochemical that marked her as his, so he won't stop fighting until he fulfills the rite of the month of fertility."
Marcas just sat back in his chair that he was sitting in previously and tried to process what this would mean. If what Drak said was true then that means that I would have to do the nasty nae-nae with Kevin in order to make him stop going bonkers. Now I know that I am a spontaneous person, someone thats random, but that is definitely not on my to do list.
"So we have to lock up Kevin for this entire month." said Marcas.
Drak nodded and said, "Yes, or this human can get it over with by walking into that operating room and get Kevin to calm down through mating."
In a snap Marcas stood up to his feet and looked Drak straight in the eyes, he was pissed.
"You listen to me. I will not allow one of my team, my family, to sacrifice their body in order to appease this 'rite' that has to be done."
Drak just shook his head and stood up to Marcas, who was a full head shorter than the lizard.
"I don't understand you humans and your sense of dignity. If this happened on Dragania..."
"Which it isn't Dragania!" Marcas interjected.
"It doesn't matter, either she gets it over with or you lose two teammates for an entire month."
"Why would both of them be down and out?" he asked the lizard.
"Because, that chemical that is running through her blood stream is like an aphrodisiac. She will be in such a state where she will not be as combat ready as she was before the bite."
"She still isn't going to do it."
"Marcas it isn't a matter of choice, she either does it or we are two people short!" Drak yelled.
"This isn't your decision Drak! This will cause her pain and whatever else could happen!"
"ENOUGH!" I yelled. "Get me back to my room. I want to make a decision for myself."
The two men looked at each other, then at me. I could tell that neither of them liked my idea, but at least they wouldn't be at each others throats. Grabbing the wheelchair in the corner Marcas wheeled it over to me and Drak put me in it. When Drak tried to wheel me out I shoved his claw off of the handles on the back and wheeled myself out, taking one last glimpse at Kevin on the table.
(Temarius's Room, Two floors down)
Temarius's POV
While Emily was busy with Kevin, and after I fixed the power situation, I took her place in cracking open the files covering operatives of the order. I was mostly breaking into everything that I found on my brother when me and Marcas raided that base over a week ago. These past few years that my brother had been gone he was killing mostly smaller targets that order wanted dead. There were some small fries that he killed starting out, but as time went on he had graduated to military and government officials.
Somehow the order had turned my brother into a more efficient killing machine than he already had been because some of the high profile targets that he had were tougher than his military training could take. The pictures included in his profile helped sort out how he became so lethal. Just like me he has a suit except his is more discreet and instead of holding my legs up and supporting me, his simply amplifies what is already there. The thing was made to terrify. It had arge black wings built into it and a white helmet that looked like it was a skull. I guess that they were trying to go for the grim reaper look.
Then at the bottom of the screen an icon popped up that showed that something was active and a map popped up. It was downtown Chicago by the looks of it, and my brother was moving down the street at a rapid place. He must have been on another mission.
Then from behind me I heard the squeaking of wheels. Before the source of the sound could get closer I shut my laptop and turned to face the doorway. Come to find out it was Jessica, and she looked like she had been working out in the gym she was sweating so much.
"You ok?" I asked.
Slowly turining her head she looked at me and said, "I don't feel so good."
Then she fell out of her wheelchair.
"Oh my gosh! Jessica!" I yelled as I ran over to her.
"Jessica, can you hear me?"
She didn't respond verbally, but thank God she was still breathing. I pressed the communicator in my ear and called for the closest members of the team to come and help me with this, because I didn't know what is going on.
(The Medical Bay)
Marcas's POV
If not anything else, I didn't want to feed Drak's ego, and jessica wasn't helping. For the past five minutes we have been in here arguing with each other about leaving her in the same room as kevin and let it be over with or not. Emily wasn't exactly siding with me when she wanted jessica to stay in here, but she was running a few tests to see what was the culprit.
"Look, I am the team leader, so I have the final say in this, got it?"
"No I don't understand. I..."
Suddenly my fists did the talking for me and I slammed the taller alien against the wall. Then with my free hand I came within an inch of his face and slammed it into the wall, just to drive my point forward.
"She stays and you listen." I said waving a finger. "Emily even agrees with me that she should stay in here. End of conversation, end of story."
Drak just huffed at me and walked out of the room, so today I didn't get my face punched in by a giant lizard-alien from space.
"Well what do you know." Emily said to herself.
"What did you say?" I asked.
"It is about Kevin's examination. I think that this new revelation on his status will puzzle you."
Fresh out of the printer, she pulled out a long sheet of paper with lines going up and down like a heartbeat monitor. Grabbing a blue pen she traced one specific line that barely moved up and down and handed the sheet to me.
"This right here is a representation of Kevin's brainwaves. The one that I marked in blue is an irregularity in his mind."
Then she pulled out a manilla folder with Kevin's name on it.
"In his medical profile, Kevin did not list anything about telepathy being a part of Klausian physiology, so that leads me to suggest that my theory is correct."
For a moment what she said was making sense, but then a thought came to my mind. Emily mentioned that Kevin had lied to her about the month of fertility, so what if Kevin actually was a telepath?
"Emily, remember this. Kevin didn't tell you about the whole month of fertility thing, so we can't leave out the possibility of him being a telepath."
Emily pondered on it a moment then shook her head.
"What you say may be a slight possibility but it is not true. I have compared Kevin's brainwaves with those of other telepaths across the globe using the Justice League's database. I know that Kevin is not of this planet, but his brain activity can be matched with that of other people that are here on earth."
"So what do we do from here?"
"The only thing we can do right now. Even though I believe that it will not work, we could summon Raven into Kevin's room and have her do a full mental examination."
"But what if Kevin breaks out of his restraints and we aren't fast enough? I'm sorry but I can't risk that."
"Then we have her sit in the observation room and enter his mind from there. That way she will not be harmed."
(Observation room, twenty minutes later)
Raven's POV
When I heard that I was going to enter Kevin's mind I thought that it was a stupid idea, but when I heard about what Emily discovered things made sense, well, sort of. Once everybody had left the room I went into a deep meditative state. I could feel myself going from the coldness of the observation room to the warmer temperatures in the operating room. Then I entered Kevin's mind, and what was lying in wait I did not know.
The first thing that I saw in there was a white-washed hallway with doors. Judging from the look of his mind, Kevin had things organized, except some doors were twisted in ways that would be impossible to pass through. Each door had a place for a name to be written above it and there was one for each: A door for memories past, a door for simple math, for advanced math and calculations, a door for emotions, a door for senses, and then there was another door. This door was crooked beyond any shape that a door can be made in and it had a dark aura about it. I tried stepping close to it and all of my emotions raged inside me. Each and every one of them were screaming, "NO!" to the point where I couldn't focus.
For something like this to happen, there had to be a darker force than mine behind that door, and that made me want to find out what was even more. My hand reached out to grab on to the door and open it, but I grabbed onto something, and it wasn't made of steel.
It was a robe just like mine, except it was red and tattered. When I looked up to see who was standing there I saw a figure in metal armor looking down at from under his red hood. A lone eye stared at me, a lone crosshair where his left eye would be.
"Salve est" it said in a demonic sounding voice.
"Who are you and what are you doing in my friend's mind?" I asked him.
"Quis ego sum, et non refert quid faciam tibi."
Around me the white-washed halls of Kevin's mind disappeared. My body threw itself back for some reason and hit a tree. The first thing that came to mind was that I was in Kevin's memories and this thing had taken me there, but I was wrong. Somehow he had entered into my mind without me knowing it.
'You need to escape!' said fear.
'No! You need to stand your ground and fight this bad guy!' yelled Courage
'He's going to kill you and then kill us.' said sadness.
"NO!" I shouted out loud. "I don't care who you are or who you might be, but you are not going to take my mind too!"
"Azarath Metrion Zinthos!"
My dark energy when flying out of my hands like a geyser of black. The thing just stood there with it's hand out in front of it and waited. I was wondering what it was doing because it was about to take the blast head on. Then it hit it.
The explosion sent shockwaves across the lush jungle that I had made in my mind and I thought that the problem was solved, but when the smoke cleared it was still standing there in the same position that it had been this whole time.
"Vicissim" it said from behind its mask.
From across the way I could feel the power that was flowing through it. It was something more fowl and dark than anything that I had conjured up, and thats going pretty far when you remember Trigon. My father could make such dark and evil forces that it would be hard to find the light, and this small thing in armor was replicating the same thing.
"Secundum tenebrae, tenebrarum, socia ex composito tenebris, tenebrae accendat!"
Suddenly a dark wave of energy surged out from under its feet and the ground beneath me shook. The soft dirt below me cracked and fractured and the worst came to fruition. Just to inform you, I had changed the landscape of my mind after I left the titans. I was sick of the darkness and loneliness that came with it, and the big reminder of my father, so I made it into something more beautiful. Somehow this thing had broken through the barriers of my mind and was destroying something that took years to make. So I decided to fight back.
"Azarath Metrion Zinthos!" I yelled as I unleashed a force strong enough to even topple my father.
The giant form of a raven swept over the abyss that the thing had created when it unleashed its attack on my mind and swarmed it. By the time that it had gotten there it had conjured up a shield to protect itself from the attack, but it was too late. My attack was like a freight train hitting a paperweight. I saw it fly off the platform that it was standing on and fall off into the abyss of my mind, where most things went to die.
"Well that takes care of that." I said to myself as I prepared to leave.
I sat on the rocky surface below me and started to meditate. Before I could go back into Kevin's mind and repair the damage that had been done, I had to fix my mindscape first. I had recreate the jungle and the waterfall from scratch, with every detail and sound and smell that came with it. Of course I remembered exactly how this place looked and in a matter of minutes I had everything back to the way it was. Now it was time to go back into Kevin's mind and help him with his situation. And as I formed a tear into his mind, I didn't even notice the very thing that I thought was dead behind me.
Marcas's POV
Raven had been sitting there for the past hour just meditating. It made me wonder what she found when she visited Kevin's mind and what kind of damage was there. Just sitting here makes me wish that I had those kinds of powers. I could imagine how easy it would be to track down the order instead of going from crumb to crumb that they left behind.
Emily was sitting opposite of Raven with a monitor sitting on the table right next to her. She was monitoring both Raven and Kevin's brainwaves and vital signs. Both were healthy and in a sense unconcious.
"Emily."
"Yes Marcas?"
"How much damage do you think has been to Kevin's mind? I mean, Raven has been in there for quite a while."
"To tell you the truth Marcas I do not know for I do not accept the possibility that miss Roth has telepathic capabilities."
"And what people that can jump over buildings and fly? What about these people?"
And now the doctor had nothing to retort. Though she may be a medical specialist, she isn't the know it all that she comes off as.
Suddenly Raven grabbed at her throat and started gasping for air. Immediately me and Emily sprang into action to try and determine the cause of this, but this was strange. She still had her eyes closed, but she was gasping for air as if she was being strangled by something. This disturbed me greatly.
"What is going on with her?" I asked.
"Her airway is closing for no reason at all. I do not know what is happening but scans indicate that she is feeling highly distressed."
"Can you do anything?" I replied.
"I could try to inject a chemical that would relax the muscles lining her throat, but in her current state it does not look like that would work. Plus sending her into a deeper form of her state would cause her to go into a comatose state."
"What about CPR?"
Emily just shook her head in reponse.
"Great, so what do we do?"
Behind us the door opened and Steve of all people ran in and sat next to where Raven was on the ground.
"Guys, you're going to have to trust me.."
"Steven, what is the meaning of this sudden visit?" asked Emily.
"I thought that you guys would have hear me outside but ever since I heard that Raven was going to do her mind thing with Kevin I wanted to watch, but when I walked by to go grab a drink I heard somebody struggling for breath and so I came in."
"Well you came in at a hell of a time." I said sarcastically. "What can you do to help Raven that none of us can do?"
"I can speak to her."
"What good could that do? She is in a meditative state, she can't hear you!" I yelled back at him.
"I think you are wrong Marcas and I think that she can hear what I am about to say."
I sat there beside Raven and watched as he bent down and started speaking into her ear as if she was wide awake. I just thought that he was being stupid and was wasting Raven's time, whatever she had left.
(In Raven's mind)
Raven's POV
I could feel the cold steel of it's hand wrapped around my throat. It felt more real than it should have been for something in my mind. I couldn't see a face or anything behind the steel mask that it had, but I could feel the rage inside of it. It felt like pure evil and I could read its thoughts.
"Are you ready to die?" it said in plain English.
Struggling to get out a single word all I could say was, "No".
Then it squeezed tighter on my airway, cutting it off completely. I was starting to feel lightheaded. Darkness was consuming everything around me and I knew that once I died here then that thing could take over my body, and who knows what it do.
All was lost and death was near, but then I heard something. It kept on repeating itself again and again like a broken record. I could barely make it out but it sounded like somebody was trying to say something to me. Then it got louder and louder until I could tell who it was.
"Rachel, don't give up! Everybody is counting on you!"
With one eye open I could see the monster looking around for the source of the voice and slightly loosened its grip on me. Now was the time to react.
With one quick blast to its chest armor I separated it from my throat and flew off into the distance, but the thing was persistent. It aimed it's other hand at me and fired it like a harpoon. Looking behind me I saw this and barrel rolled out of the way, so it grabbed air. Then I stopped where I was and watched it reel its claw back in for another shot.
"Little one, as long you run I will chase you. Whether you fight or not, I will kill you then I will find any intersting way to kill your friends one by one." it said clenching its claws into fists.
"No, you won't touch my friends, and you won't take my body away from me!"
Suddenly a new wave of energy surged around me like nothing that I had ever felt before. My robe turned a bright white as did my eyes and for some reason I shot myself forward like a bullet. I aimed straight for the center of its amor and watched it put up another shield. This time, it wouldn't be getting up.
When I hit it straight on, not only did I break right through its shield, but I also went straight through it and stopped just short of the waterfall. Behind me I coud hear it hiss in pain, and then there was the clanking of metal armor against the ground.
"Thisssss light-it burns me t-t-t-t-to the core." it said as it laid there on the ground.
"You have won this round you bitch, but I will be back." it said in its last moment there.
I didn't even turn around to see it leave my mind, and later when I went through Kevin's to repair his mind, there was not even a trace that it was there anymore.
(Back to reality)
Steve's POV
"I can't believe it," said Marcas,"she isn't choking anymore. Emily?"
The only doctor in the room was rubbing her eyes and shaking her head. I guess that I did something to break that barrier between what is and wasn't possible to her. They were both as confused as I was because that would work.
"So I guess that this makes me the new medical professional around here?"
"No steven." said Emily with a neutral look on her face. "This does not make any sense. It compeletly defies logic because miss Roth should not have reacted to your voice within her current state."
"Well at least she isn't going die, sheesh."
Right before us Raven opened her eyes and started to wake up. She fluttered her eyes a bit, probably trying to readjust to the lights above, then sat up and stretched her arms.
"So Raven how was the whole mind ready thing?" I asked.
For a moment she looked over at me and smiled.
"I guess that everything went well." said Marcas.
Using her powers Raven dragged me over to her and planted a strong and long kiss right on me. Marcas looked the other way and started laughing while Emily just sat there puzzled.
"Is this normal for you after every time you do this miss Roth?" she asked.
Finally after she pulled away from me and gave me a chance to breathe she replied, "No, I just do this for people that save my life, and now I can say more than once."
Then she reeled me back in and I sucked in as much air as I could before she latched onto my face again.
"Do we need to leave you two to copulate?" asked Emily.
Marcas laughed and Raven dropped me like its hot.
"That won't be necessary." said Raven with a blush on her face.
"Good, now that everything is settled let us take a look at our patient in the other room and see how he is doing."
(Unknown location)
A portal opened from Tearju's mind, and the broken creature that was codenamed,"Boogieman" came out clutching at the hole in it's chest.
The sorceress hopped up from where she was sitting and looked the gaping hole in its center over and shook her head.
"So S.O.H.L. has played another card in Marcas's affairs." said Adrain from his cage across the way. "You know that I could have easily given your pet a boost while he was in her mind, but since you didn't listen to me you paid the price."
"Shut up!" the sorceress yelled at the caged bird. "The master must not know of this."
Across the room a set of doors opened and Judas walked right in with one of his agents. Tearju, caught in the act of trying to cover up her failure, ran towards the closest door and only got punch in the first two digits of the emergency exit code. Using his powers from across the room, the Shadow Man picked her up by the neck and threw her into her closet, shattering the wooden doors that she made herself.
"I told you to not play with things that aren't yours." he said from across the room.
Having the wind knocked out of her, Tearju just sat there and tried to stand up, but the pain stemming from the wooden frame in her arm held her down.
"Sorceress you have served me well, goodbye." he said as he picked her up again, this time strangling her from far away.
From his cage Adrian saw this and actually panicked, for she was secretly his lover.
"Stop!" the caged man yelled from across the room.
"And why would I do that, insect?"
"Its...its...its because she's pregnant."
Suddenly the Shadow Man dropped her on the floor and signaled for the agent that went with him to pick her up off the floor.
As he passed by his master, Judas told him, "Take her to the medical wing and have her examined."
The soldier nodded and marched out of the room, carrying the now unconscious sorceress on his shoulder. Once the door closed behind him, Judas opened the door to Adrian's cage with his mind and teleported in.
"I was a fool to let her guard you. I had a feeling that you two were growing close, but impregnating one of my agents? Adrian, you are a fool."
Adrian just sat there staring at the floor for he had no response at all.
"Now I know that we have had our fair share of disagreements in the past and all, but I have one question to ask you and I want your response."
Standing over the sorcerer, the Shadow man eagerly waited for a response and in a short matter of time he got one.
"What do you want from me?"
"Adrian, I want you to take Tearju's place on the team that I have. How does that sound?"
A growing smirk could be seen on the sorcerer's face as he looked up and replied, "When do I start?"
Bum bum buuuuuuuuuuum!
Suspense!
