AN-
I have a moderately long chapter again! Also, I have to ask you guys, are any of you perhaps going to Denver Comicon this year? I am for sure going so if any of you are going it'd be great to know, so I can tell you guys what I'm cosplaying as.
"Tony," I started to panic.
"You need to hide, now." Tony grabbed my wrist and looked me in the eye. The agents were getting close. I looked around the room, there wasn't much to hide behind. I was running out of time. I figured behind the desk facing the door was my best option. I was about to move over there, but there wasn't enough time. I had this odd sensation bubbling up within me. I felt Tony's hand let go of mine the second the door opened. Crap.
"Mr. Stark, why are you awake so early?" One of the agents asked.
"I had work to do," he said slowly.
The guards didn't even acknowledge my existence.
"We got an alert that someone was looking into classified files." The other, older, agent said, shifting.
"Really? What kind?" He asked non-nonchalantly.
How were the people not seeing me?
"As we said, classified. Mr. Stark, Director Fury would like to see you in his office." The younger one said.
"Okay, I just need to go save my research. I will go as soon as I am ready." Tony said calmly.
The agents nodded and left the lab. They were turning down the hall when I decided to speak again.
"Tony, they completely ignored me." I turned to him.
"They didn't see you." Tony turned and started messing with a tablet laying on the table.
"How could they not see me, I'm not a hard person to miss." I huffed.
Tony held up the tablet so the screen was facing me. It was on camera, but I didn't show up on it.
"Tony-" I looked down and saw that I was gone.
"What is happening!" I panicked.
"Calm down, this is normal, well for you at least." Tony set the tablet down. "Focus on being seen again."
I did, and slowly my body reappeared.
"What the actual Hell." I stumbled back to lean on a table.
"You have powers, not human powers." Tony filled in.
"What?" I shouted.
"What you went through had to be really bad to repress your powers." Tony said.
"I told you, I didn't go through anything bad. And don't you think it may have been helpful to tell me I had superpowers?" I growled.
A strange feeling bubbled up in my chest, it was like I wanted to kill Tony.
"What else have you been lying to me about?" I cried.
Before he could answer I sprinted out of the lab. Tears rolled down my face. I had super powers, I was a freak. I ran straight to my room. I collapsed onto the cot and let myself cry. I brushed away my tears and pulled Tony's clothes out from under the bed. I threw them in my bag and buried them under the rest of the clothing. I was mad at Tony right now, but I still felt like I wanted to kill him. I wasn't sure why, but it linked to all the other feelings of anger I had been having. Every time one or all of the Avengers were mentioned, I wanted to hurt them. And the man that was locked up, I was laughing at his pain. I dug my fingernails into my palm trying to stop the murderous rampage. I hissed at the pain and looked down at the red pooling up at my skin. I jumped and rushed to the bathroom and started cleaning the wound. I found some gauze and dressed my hand. I sighed and closed my hand on itself. I looked into the mirror. It sounded cliche, but my reflection didn't look like me. I was thin, like I hadn't eaten for months. I was pale and the bruises from being with Fury were fading. My blue eyes were like dulled glass. I felt like a ghost. I wiped away my tears and focused on what I did on the lab. I imagined myself disappearing, and slowly my image in the mirror melted away. I gasped and reappeared. I wondered what else I could do. I remembered I left the water running and looked down. I pictured the knob turning off. Sure enough, the water shut off. I didn't realize I had been holding my breath. I let it out and the room began to spin. I grabbed the sink as the world was flung on its side. There was a sharp pain in the side of my head along with a loud smack. Then the world went dark.
When I woke up, everything was really white and my head hurt. There was a beeping and I rolled my head to look at a heart monitor going.
"Hello?" I called out into the silence.
"Oh, good you're awake." A soft voice called.
"What happened?" I tried to shift up, with difficulty.
The world shifted a bit and I regained my focus.
"You hit your head on your counter, and your friend Morgan Radford came and got me to help." A nurse appeared with a glass of water and some medication. "Director Fury has requested you take these, they're special pain killers."
I gave the nurse a suspicious look. She nodded an encouraging smile. I took the pill and placed it into my mouth. I wondered what would happen if I didn't take it at the moment. I rolled it over to the spot where my cheek and tooth line met and held it there. I picked up the water cup and took a drink pretending to swallow the pill. The nurse smiled. She turned away and looked at the monitor and I quickly spit the pill out and slid it into my pocket.
"It seems you suffered a mild concussion. This doesn't entirely disqualify you from training for a long time, but you are dismissed for the rest of the week until Wednesday next week." She said.
I nodded and let her take off the wires that attached me to the monitor. She dismissed me.
"Oh, and if you feel dizzy or faint again, come straight here." The nurse told me right before I left.
I closed the door and looked around. I had no idea where I was. I looked down both hallways, hoping I would recognize it. I groaned in frustration and decided to go right, hoping I could round the ship if I got lost. I walked for a bit and started getting frustrated. I would've turned back had I known which way I'd come. I was just about to turn the corner when a very sturdy person ran into me. I stumbled back and rubbed my head, already feeling dazed.
"What are you doing back here, Musgrove?" A familiar voice asked.
My vision refocused and I looked at no one other than Agent Barton.
"Oh, sorry sir. I was in med bay and I was unconscious when I was taken there, and I don't know how to get back so I thought I'd loop back eventually, but now I'm just lost." I rushed out. I wrung my hands and bit the inside of my lip, feeling the animosity roll off of him.
"Come with me. I'll take you to the mess hall, it's dinner time." He said and started back the way I came.
I followed him silently and noticed that the way we were going was to the left of the med bay. I frowned at my own senses and eventually the smell of food came wafting through the halls.
"Thank you, sir." I said as he entered the hall.
He turned around and gave me a small nod. I let out a breath of air as soon as he was out of ear shot. I walked in and grabbed a tray.
Once I had my dinner I sat down at the table Morgan and I usually occupy. I pushed my tray away and laid my head on my arms. A few moments later I heard someone sit down next to me.
"Oh my gosh, are you okay?" Morgan's hyperactive voice filled my ears.
I lifted my head and looked at her.
"That's a nasty bruise, what did the nurse say?" Morgan gently moved my head to look at it.
"Mild concussion, no training until Wednesday next week." I sighed, trying to block out the loud noises.
"I'm jealous." She huffed.
"What and miss out on your one true love?" I gave her big lovey dovey eyes.
"Turns out he's not, he had two other girls in the room when I went with him." She frowned and looked down at her food.
I told her so, or tried to.
"I'm sorry," I said, and apparently convinced her it was genuine.
"Anyways, what happened, I came back to the room and you were unconscious on the floor."
"Well, I was cleaning up and I guess I fainted." I decided it would be best to leave out the magical powers part.
"Weird, but I'm glad you're okay." Morgan shrugged and started inhaling her food.
I watched her with a very bored look when I noticed Tony come into the hall. He had a very concentrated look. Bruce came in after him and asked him a question. This momentarily shook Tony out of the state he was in. As he listened to Bruce repeat the question, he locked eyes with me. I saw his eyes give me a pained expression, then his gaze drifted up to what could only be the bruise on my head. He went from sorrowful to angry. His eyes snapped to meet mine again. I rolled my eyes and focused back on Morgan.
I still wanted to kill every single person claiming to be an 'Avenger.'
