Chapter 25

Celine heard a voice, a voice she thought she would never hear again. It was coming from a distance and getting nearer.

'Celine.'

She turned around, could it really be them?

'Celine.' The person appeared and had another familiar face to them. Immediately she ran to them. It was her friend Rose and she had Jack with her. Celine thought she would never see those two ever again.

'Rose, Jack. I thought I would never see you again. Celine hugged Rose before shaking Jack's hand.

'It's good to see you again, Celine. We both heard about your wedding to Cal. It was in the news.'

'It's a long story, I won't be seeing Cal again, he's been arrested for tax evasion and it looks like prison is the only place he's going.'

'I'm sorry Celine.' Rose said sadly.

'What are you being sorry about Rose, none of it was your fault.'

'I was the one supposed to marry him. The moment he thought I was dead, he set his eyes upon you. I should never have left, it was wrong to have that put on you, purely out of my selfishness.'

Celine stopped her. 'Rose you are not to blame. You were trapped in some unwanted engagement. You were right to want out and quite rightly so you escaped. I don't blame you at all.'

Rose smiled at her. 'Thankyou Celine, I feel better now.'

'So Rose, Jack, enough about me. You must tell me about Ireland and what happened.'

Jack told her the story. 'The morning the ship arrived in Queenstown me and Rose quietly got off. If any of the officers saw us, they would of course make it official. A third class person like me seen getting off with Rose DeWitt Bukater. That would surely be noticed. So while no one was looking we ran as fast as we could. I got a job in a small art gallery doing sketches of people who would come in. The money wasn't the best, but it was enough to look after me and Rose.'

Rose continued their story. 'The moment we heard about the sinking, we were both troubled for we knew you were still on board. I prayed every night that you were safe and had gotten on a boat. Immediately me and Jack booked tickets on another ship to come and find you. Af first we had trouble finding you. There was no Celine Lovejoy on the list but a Celine Moody. It did puzzle us at first, but then we saw you and Cal's picture in the newspaper, you were safe.'

Celine smiled, a tear ran down her face.

'What's wrong Celine.' Jack asked her.

My name on the list. Celine Moody. You probably want to know why I wasn't Celine Lovejoy. After you got off, the most amazing thing happened to me. I met this officer, 6th Officer James Moody. I fell in love with him. Then that manservant of Cal found out and told me he had arranged a marriage between him and Cal. I was saddened by it all. He tried to split us up but we continued to meet and the night I was supposed to marry Cal I married James instead.' Celine instead of calling Lovejoy her father, she simply referred to him as Cal's employee.

'Wow, so Cal got jilted.'

Celine laughed. 'I guess you could say that. That afternoon the stewards dressed me in your old wedding dress. The moment I was told of my fate, I tried to delay things. I insisted to Cal we wait until New York as I wouldn't have a dress. He had no problem with me wearing the dress you were meant to wear. I thought it was a bit disturbing. Me wearing his 'dead fiancee's' wedding gown. The stewards dressed me up like some china doll. That night, instead of meeting Cal, I married James in secret. I was and still are Celine Moody. That evening the ship sunk and James along with it.' Celine sobbed. Rose went to her friend and hugged her.

'Don't cry Celine. James wouldn't want you to be upset. I see mother survived.'

'Rose she did. You must not be mad with her. I hated that woman more than anything, but your 'death' changed her. She was a broken woman. She was extremely saddened by your passing and regrets deeply how she treated you.'

'Really?'

'Yes Rose, you must go to her, she's staying at the Waldorf.'

'Well if you say she has changed, I see no harm in going to see her.'

'You know Rose, even though I was constantly harassed by Cal and forced to marry him, I did actually enjoy the Titanic.'

Rose smiled. 'I remember when we first arrived at Southampton. The ship was a wonder. I tried to hide my amazement from mother and Cal. I just couldn't stand the way he would show off. It truly was a beautiful ship.'

Celine took out a small book and wrote something in there. Jack was interested to know what it was. This didn't go unnoticed by Celine.

'You're probably wondering what on earth this is. It's my journal. I wrote in it everyday when I was onboard and have continued to write in it since. It survived the sinking and has memories in it I shall remember forever.

Rose smiled. 'I think it's time we should go and see mother. Oh by the way, Jack and I are married. I had so much to tell you, I just forgot.'

'Congratulations to you both.' Celine said to her two friends as they walked towards the Waldorf.
