Thanks to everyone who has supported this story. I know I say all the time how much your support to me but honestly their is no real way to express how grateful I really am.
When I posted my first story, Here I Am, the responses I received ranged from positive to negative to down-right hurtful. And while I did finish the story for the readers that were still interested, almost all the joy had been sucked out of it by that stage and it felt more like a chore.
So when I started writing The Shift, I was pretty much expecting the worse.
But your responses have completely blown me away and restored my faith in not only the fandom but in my ability as a writer. I love how how passionate you all are about the characters, and despite the fact that you may hate the characters sometimes, you don't hate me personally for writing them. Even if you don't review and let me know what you think, the fact that you're still reading is more than enough for me.
Super special thanks go to:

"What's going on?" I ask after Jacob has led me far enough away from the others that they can't hear our conversation. It doesn't stop them from watching us intently though.
"I should be asking you that," Jacob says incredulously. "How did you get here?"
"Uh...we followed the road out of town and then we retraced our path through the forest back here," I say slowly. Surely he, of all people, would understand how to navigate his way from one place to another. He's a time traveller for crying out loud.
"Not here in this time, you idiot," he sighs. "How did you find this place in your time?"
"You're the idiot," I mumble childishly. "If you'd just as the right questions the first time, you wouldn't have to keep repeating yourself. How am I supposed to know what you mean? I'm not a mind reader."
Jacob crosses his arms against his chest and ignores my little rant. He continues to glare at me as he waits rather impatiently for me to answer him.
"We didn't exactly find this place in our time," I explain. "Everyone knows where it is. It's a camp-site."
"A camp-site..." he quietly contemplates. "So the people of your time are nomadic?"
"What?" I ask, confused. "Why would you think that?"
"You just said this was a known place to make camp," he slowly explains.
Yes, I did more or less say that, but the way he says it makes me think I might be missing something. Or maybe he just doesn't understand what I mean.
"Yes, a place for camping," I say. "To get in touch with nature and stuff, you know. Maybe roast some marshmallows, that kind of thing. It's fun."
"It's fun," he repeats angrily.
Well, when he says it like that, it doesn't sound very fun at all.
He does have a point though. Based on my first camping experience, I'd have to say that there is absolutely nothing fun about it.
Then it dawns on me.
While camping may be done for leisure in my time, it's a way of life for Jacob and his people.
And I've just insulted him.
"This is a sacred place," Jacob fumes. "It is used for special ceremonies and rituals that you couldn't possibly comprehend, and you abuse this land for..for fun! How dare you? This is my peoples land and you are trespassing."
While this area might still belong to his tribe in his time but I know that's no longer the case. But based on how angry he already is, I don't think he'd appreciate me explaining to him exactly how his people were encouraged to give up their land.
"Where...I mean, when you're from we might be trespassing, but when I'm from this area is part of a national park. It belongs to everyone," I say. He looks a little saddened by this but at least he's not angry anymore. "Look Jacob, we're not here to cause trouble or to take anything away from you. We just want to go home and we need your help to do that."
"I suppose I don't really have a choice, do I?" he asks.
What he's saying doesn't make any sense, of course he has a choice. He's experienced at this whole time travelling thing, he can come and go as he pleases. We're the ones stuck here!
"Well you could just abandon us like you've done before, but I'm hoping that you won't," I say calmly.
God, I'm really hoping he won't.
I don't know how I'm going to explain it to the others if he does disappear again. My whole plan consisted of getting to the camp-site and begging Jacob to help. If this doesn't work out, I don't have another plan.
It's all or nothing now.
"I can't do that, even if I wanted to," he sighs, shaking his head. "You're here, so I have to help you now."
Have to? Odd choice of words considering I can't possibly force him to do anything.
"Why do you have to?" I ask hesitantly.
"Because I'm the one that brought you here."
