Chapter Twenty-Five: Escaping the Caves.

"Wait," Thorin shouted as the goblins reached for the youngest member of his company, he forced his way to the front knowing that he would have to put his grief behind him for now.

Thalia would always have a special place in his heart and he wouldn't forget her sacrifice, he would truly grieve for her loss later; he would do something special for her when he reclaimed the Lonely Mountain.

"Thorin, son of Thráin, son of Thrór. King under the mountain," the Goblin king said bowing dramatically, he smirked at the look of annoyance on the dwarf's face; he knew that the loss of the mountain of Erebor was a sensitive subject for its former residence.

Thorin glared up at the large fat goblin, he didn't know why he thought that he would get away with that comment; he was going to win back his home and do so in Thalia's memory.

"Oh but I am forgetting, you don't have a mountain and you are not a king… which makes you a nobody, really," the Goblin king said smugly, he didn't hold back with his harsh words; his eyes steadily watching Thorin as he leant close, he knew someone who would be thrilled to be reunited with him.

"I know someone who would pay a pretty penny for your head… just your head, mind you nothing attached," the Goblin king said watching the dwarf, he could see the anger bubbling beneath the surface; he felt a thrill of excitement knowing that the white orc would do if he handed him Thorin. The dwarf stared at him confused wondering what he was talking about, he wasn't in the mood for these games and he wanted nothing more than to get away from here.

"Perhaps you know of whom I speak… a pale orc astride a white warg," the Goblin king said making Thorin stare at him, he felt the company took a deep breath as they realised just who the goblin was talking about; the one foul creature that was set on destroying the Line of Durin.

"Who does that wizard think he is? Telling us to wait here like that," Cornelia spat furious as she paced up and down in front of Thalia, she was far from pleased that they had been forced to stay behind; she wanted to get in on the action.

Thalia watched her as she leant back on the rock, she wasn't surprised that Cornelia had taken a dislike to the wizard just like she had; Gandalf had a way of rubbing people up the wrong way.

"He's a pain in the ass," Thalia agreed pushing herself away from the rock and looked around the cavern that they were stood in, they were beside an underground river and the blonde felt slightly relaxed by its presence. Cornelia snorted in agreement, she huffed moving to sit down and looked over the water; her hand moving to grip her sword as she thought about what was going on.

"Where did your sword come from?" Thalia asked carefully, she watched as Cornelia smirked and pulled it from its holder; she twirled it in her hand as she admired it for a moment. Cornelia knew that there were things that their parents wouldn't have told Thalia, there was one that the Gods seemed determined to keep from them and something she'd only just discovered for herself.

"It was a gift… it was forged in the underworld," Cornelia said shortly, she watched Thalia who nodded her head knowing that Thalia had been left unprepared by what was going on by the Gods; she hoped they fixed that problem soon. Thalia opened her mouth to ask another question, she heard a whisper from the water; she swallowed as she stood and looked across the river.

"Can you hear that?" Thalia asked as she brushed some hair from her face, she was sort of relieved that she wasn't wearing the dress that Aphrodite had put her in; she was back to wearing her grey cable jumper and skinny jeans paired with rust ankle boots.

Cornelia shook her head as watching Thalia, she pursed her lips as the blonde headed down to the water's edge; it could be anything reaching out to her cousin.

"Thalia," a whispery voice called leading the demi-god closer to the edge, she was walking right where it needed her and it knew that it had to act soon; it needed to do this and the blonde would be okay.

Thalia looked around confused as she carefully knelt down, she didn't know what was calling to her but it was coming from the water; she turned to ask Cornelia about the voice when a silvery hand reached out of the water and pulled her in. Cornelia cursed pushing herself to her feet and rushed towards the water's edge; she skidded to a stop and cursed her fear of water, there was no sign of Thalia left behind.

"Do not fear our princess," a soft voice said making Thalia open her blue eyes, she blinked confused as she stared at the silver figures before her. Their skin was a silver colour, their hair floated effortlessly in the water surrounding them while their dark eyes stared at Thalia with great respect. Thalia wasn't quite sure why she hadn't drowned, she was a strong swimmer but she was deep underwater right now and had been dragged there by these creatures.

"We have been sent to give you something," the second creature said, Thalia blinked as she tried to wrap her head around what was happening; she really couldn't believe that she was still alive right now and she guessed it had something to do with her being the Daughter of Poseidon.

The two creatures carefully produced a blue bladed sword, they carefully moved to hand it to Thalia; it had been forged in Atlantis for her use and they had been sent to give it to her, someone wanted her safe and protected.

"Use it wisely our princess… our king and queen wish you safe travels," the first creature spoke allowing the second to hand over the sword. Thalia took it confused as she realised that they had been sent by her father, she vaguely remembered her classes from high school that Poseidon had a wife. Thalia felt strange holding a sword, but somewhere in the back of her mind she felt a flight of recognition swim through her.

"Why would she want to help me?" Thalia thought making the two creatures share a look, she would have thought that Amphitrite would have hated her because she was the demi-god daughter of Poseidon.

"Why wouldn't she our princess?" the second creature asked, she opened her mouth to say more when there was a sudden blast of water that swept her away; the first creature looked around frightened knowing that her friend had nearly said to much. Thalia stared shocked at what had happened, her hand gripping the sword tightly knowing that there was something being kept from her.

"It is time for you to go my princess… you must return now," the creature said looking at Thalia, her dark eyes seemed to hold an emotion that the blonde couldn't place; the creature bowed before it disappeared before Thalia's eyes.

Thalia looked around confused wondering how the creature had disappeared like that, she sighed as she looked up at the surface; she could see a shadowy figure waiting for her and she knew that it was Cornelia waiting for her to return. Kicking her legs as quickly as she could, Thalia made her way back to the surface knowing that it was time to do something instead of waiting for Gandalf to return.

"Take up arms," Gandalf boomed knocking all of the goblins down, they had been attacking the dwarves who had struggling to defend themselves; the Goblin king had ordered their deaths after he had discovered Thorin's sword.

The dwarves groaned starting to get to their feet, they had been knocked down as well; they quickly scrambled for their weapons as the wizard demanded that they fight for their lives, he knew that they were exhausted but they needed to do this. The dwarves fought their way through the goblins as a fight begun, they needed to get out of this mountain and quickly; they couldn't remain here any longer.

Gandalf hurried to their side, they needed to head a certain way so that they could collect Thalia and Cornelia; he would inform the company later that the blonde had somehow survived the fall that she had taken off the mountain side.

Hurrying along the pathways and bridges as they fought for their lives, the dwarves moved quickly knowing that they had to hurry; there were thousands of Goblins in this mountain and if they didn't act fast enough then they risked losing another member of their company.

Thorin gritted his teeth as the Goblin king suddenly appeared before them, he didn't know how something that large moved so quickly but he knew that he wouldn't hesitate to end its life quickly.

"What are you going to do now wizard?" the Goblin king teased as the dwarves were surround, he smirked knowing that there was no way they could escape now; he knew that this was the chance that he was waiting for to destroy them.

Without a moment of hesitation, Gandalf stepped forward and sliced through the goblin's large grotesque stomach making the creature drop down to its knees; it stared at him in horror before Gandalf swiped his sword through the Goblin king's neck.

The large sudden weight made the bridge that the company was standing on grumble before they all plummeted down the deep gorge into the darkness below and into the hard ground. Thorin groaned winded as he looked at his company, he knew that they weren't out of danger yet and they still needed to get out of the mountain.

The large mass of goblins cry out in fury at the death of their king starting to scramble down the walls of the cavern to get at the dwarves. They fired arrows at the company, who quickly pulled themselves from the wreckage as Gandalf looked around trying to find something; his eyes lit up as he spotted two figures heading towards them having heard the crash landing.

"We need to get out of here," Dwalin shouted staring in horror at the thousands of goblins descending on them, he knew this wasn't a fight that they could win. The dwarves watched in amazement as several arrows that got close to them suddenly stopped in mid-air, it reminded them of what Thalia had done the same to the orc arrow that had been aimed at Kíli.

"Did you miss me?" said a voice making the entire company freeze before they turned to look at who had spoken; Thorin blinked as he wondered if what he was seeing was real, there was no way that Thalia was stood before them alive.
