There's this saying, that mother knows best. Most people would roll their eyes and call that a bunch of sloppy joe, but I believe that my mother really did know best. She knew when my father needed space, or when I needed to be cared for, when to sing, or when to do anything really. I know that not all mothers are like mine was, but I like to believe that all mothers care for their children to some extent.

But sometimes, they may care a little too much.

Veronica's mother has been driving me insane. Apparently she and V had this huge fight just before term started and now the mother of my best friend has been constantly harassing me through owls and letters, asking if Veronica had been eating all right and et cetera. One owl wouldn't leave me alone until I started writing a response letter. This madness needs to stop.

Soon.

I walked towards my first Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson of the year, wondering how on earth I'm going to tell Veronica that her mother has been stalking me. "Hey V". I murmured to myself "I don't really know how to say this, but your mother is harassing me". I snorted, fully knowing how peculiar that sounded.

"Sounds like you have a situation on your hands."An amused voice said from behind me. I looked to see Emmett Cullen smirking, his hair disheveled, while his trousers and long sleeved T-shirt a wrinkly mess. Looks like he and Rosalie were having some fun on one of the abandoned class rooms.

"Looks like you just got done with your situation. Hows the ice queen?" I asked, not really caring for an answer. The vampire's smirk fell.

"Look Lexi, we seriously need to talk. You can't avoid us forever." He tried to reason. I narrowed my eyes.

"Watch me". I spun around and speed walked to my class, biting my tongue to keep from screaming out in frustration. Why can't that damn clan just leave me alone?

"Put the books away". Were Professor Moody's greeting words. "You don't need them". All students looked at each other as if to say 'what is going on?' but did as he said. All eyes were on our teacher, as cautious, wary and eager eyes watched him walk to the front of the room. Since Malfoy's transformation, no one really knows what to make of him, or knows how far he's willing to go.

"Can anybody tell me," he began "What unforgivable curses are?"

The class remained silent.

"Really now? The fourth years had more spirit than you lot". I stared at him in disbelief. Did Moody actually talk about unforgivables with fourteen year olds? Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Veronica shift uncomfortably. Well at least I'm not the only one.

A shaky hand from Ravenclaw went up into the air. The Professor gave something of a smile. "Yes?"

"Well, unforgivable curses are spells that do horrible illegal things." Stating the obvious much?

"Can you give me an example of one?" Veronica raised an unsure hand, ready to be taken back down within seconds. "Um, theres the Imperius curse. Doesn't it control other people?" Moody gave an approving nod towards V.

"Indeed it does. With the flick of a hand, and the murmur of a word, you could be instantly controlled by another. How about the other two spells?"

"There's the Cruciatus Curse" A Hufflepuff said quickly, biting his lip as if he had said something illegal. In a sense, he kind of did.

"Yes, yes, the Cruciatus..." Moody trailed on. He suddenly pointed his finger at me "What does the Cruciatus Curse do, Ms. Black?"

I hesitated to answer. "It - its the torture curse. It can drive people mad with insanity and pain". I said quietly, clearly indicating that I did not favor this subject. The Professor paid no mind to my tone and continued on with the class.

"So now," said Moody "Two of the three curses have been revealed. Anyone care to share the last one?" He said with an odd tone. If I didn't know any better, I'd recognize that tone as... glee?

The class remained silent.

Moody furrowed his eyebrows. "Very well then, the last but certainly not the least curse is the famous Avada Kedavra; the killing curse. There is no avoiding or hiding from it. There is only one person to survive that, and if I'm not mistaken, he goes to this very school". My heart broke a little at the reminder. Harry. Harry had survived it, but his parents didn't. Neither did my mum. Neither did a lot of people back then.

What a cheery class this is, eh?

"Next class, we learn how to fight the Imperius". The bell then rang, giving us no time to question the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher's sanity.

"Class dismissed".

A/N- Herro there. Not many people reviewed on the last chappy. I mean a lot of you pointed out the one before that was all in code (thanks for that by the way) but not on the fixed version. *Enter pout*. Anyways, Pi day is coming up, anyone plan on making some pie or something? I was going to, but then I realized I have no idea how to bake a pie. So now its going to be brownies. How creative am I? Review please. Means the world to me.

Until next time,
