Thanks to a suggestion I am going to do the scene where Aria goes to see Maggie.
I would like to thank everyone who has reviewed, I do appreciate it, and it really does make me feel better.
*Aria's POV*
"Have you thought of what grade you would like to teach?" Maggie asked. I had gone to see her; I knew Ezra was worried about her, so I thought I'd check in on her, unanimously. She thought I was someone who was interested in teaching, which I am, just that's not why I'm here.
"Uh, first, I like this age. It makes me feel taller." I said, and we both laughed. "Yeah, I'm just not sure if I wanna live in an urban setting or suburbs. You know, being single and trying to meet people…" I said, trying to get information to put Ezra's mind at rest, if she knew that she was living in a good home with a nice life, he could let her go for good.
"You'd be surprised, I've done fine." She said and then turned to her class. "Okay, guys, time to clean up." She turned back to me. "Transitions can be tricky."
"Can I have a play date with Brian?" A little boy asked Maggie.
"Not today, Malcolm." She said and he walked away.
"So sweet, they want your permission for everything."
"Well, it's a special case, Malcolm also happens to be my son." She said, and my smile faded. I looked over to Malcolm, and if you looked, you could see Ezra in him. It would make sense; he's about the right age. I was scared, hoping to death it wasn't Ezra's, if it was, what was I gonna tell him, that Maggie kept the baby, how was I gonna do that? "You're doing the math, aren't you? Yeah, I was a teen mom, way before it was a reality show." She said, getting up.
It dawned on me; she was a teen mom with a child about 7 years old. He looked like Ezra if you knew what you were looking for. Uh-oh, how was I going to tell Ezra? This was going to change everything.
*Later*
"Hello," Ezra said, walking in the door as Wes and I took the food out of the oven.
"Hi," I said.
"The birthday boy- man- whatever." Wes said, trying to keep the conversation light. We still hadn't decided whether to tell him or not, I mean, he deserves to know, but how do you tell someone that?"
"Wes dropped off a gift for you, so I invited him to stay for dinner." I said, answering Ezra's look of confusion. That wasn't the whole story behind why I asked him to stay, but we couldn't tell him, not yet anyway.
"Hope that's cool?"
"No, glad you're here, the more the merrier." He said, surprising me, he seemed happier than he was this morning.
"So now you wanna celebrate?" I asked.
"I sorta do," He said, taking off his jacket. "I called Maggie." He said, and I was afraid of what he was gonna say next. I wanted to say something, but he couldn't know I knew. "And she's doing great."
"What does that mean?" Wes asked for me.
"She got a master in education, she has a good job, owns her own home, lives by herself, and she's really happy."
"She told you that?" I asked, confused, why didn't she tell him?
"We didn't talk more than 5 minutes, but honestly that was enough. I'm incredibly relived." He said, "I'm gonna take a shower, then we can celebrate." He said and walked away. Ilooked at Wes, we shared a look of worry and confusion. She hadn't told him, why? He deserves to know he has a son.
*Later*
"Happy Birthday!" I and Wes said as Ezra blew out his candles.
"Did you make a wish?" Wes asked.
"I don't need to, everything I want, I already got." He said, looking at me. He gave me a kiss. I was happy celebrating his birthday, whenever I didn't think about Maggie, which I tried to do.
"I'll cut the cake." I said, feeling the awkwardness. I picked up the cake and took it into the kitchen.
"Dude you are getting old, what are we listening to? Hootie and the Blowfish?" Wes asked, talking about the music. Ezra got up to change it. Wes then came over to me. "I think I know why she lied to him. What if my mom's paying her to keep quiet?"
"You think that your mom knows?"
"She might…"
"What do you guys feel about Supertramp?" Ezra asked.
"Who?" Wes and I said simultaneously.
"That's what I thought."
"You need to talk to your mom then."
"And say what?"
"I don't know. But if your right and we say something now then Maggie might get punished and that little boy gets cut off."
Hope you enjoyed!
