DISCLAIMER: DON'T OWN IT!
"It was after I met with Burke and he asked me to start working for him, Cristina started, looking around the room that now consisted of Meredith, Derek, Mark, a very out of it Lexie, April, Jackson, George, Owen, Alex, Jo, Heather, and Izzie.
"No," Cristina hissed. "I won't do it. I won't work for you!"
"I need you Cristina. If there is one doctor I trust to continue on with this project, it's you."
"No!"
A guard outside of the room motioned that time was up for that visit.
"Cristina, Cristina... I hope you change your mind."
The guard opened the door, walked in and pulled Burke up until he was standing.
"I-I can't," Cristina stammered.
"Well you don't have long to reconsider. So start now."
"Owen was waiting outside for me."
As Cristina walked through the front door, she found Owen waiting outside for her.
His eyes looked concerned as he leaned against his car.
"Hey," he said as Cristina walked towards him.
"Thanks for waiting," Cristina said. "Really. Thank you."
"No problem. Always happy to help out a friend."
"I kissed him."
Owen got in and started the car. "You alright?" he asked.
Cristina quickly unbuckled her seat belt and leaned over, grabbing Owen and kissing him.
"Wait," Owen said, pulling away. "Cristina, you're just upset and I'm here and it's convenient."
"Convenient? No! Owen I love you!"
Owen's face looked trouble. "Cristina-"
Tears filled Cristina's eyes and she quickly opened her car door and ran out into the street, running towards the hospital as Owen shouted after her.
"He tried to chase me."
"Cristina!" Owen called, sprinting through the street. "Cristina wait!"
She reached the sidewalk, turning only when she heard the loud screeching of tires.
"I turned to see what happened," Cristina went on.
"I just barely had enough time to jump out of the way of the car," Owen said.
The car that had nearly hit him swerved for him again and crashed into a pole.
"Owen!" Cristina cried, running over to where he had landed on the sidewalk. "Are you alright?"
"Yeah," Owen got out. "I think so."
He looked like he was in pain. Cristina placed her hand to his cheek.
Owen turned to look at the car that was now still, the man unconscious inside of it.
"We called 911. We tried to help him."
"That's when I noticed the sticker he had on the floor of his car," Cristina explained.
"These are what you have to wear to visit the inmates in the jail Burke's in," Cristina said, lifting the bloody sticker and showing it to Owen.
"Guess this wasn't an accident, huh?"
"Burke had people on the outside," Cristina said. "He put the guy up to it."
"We saw we had the option of being one step ahead him," Owen said.
"We called Officer Finch."
"So we make him believe Owen's dead," Cristina explained to Finch as they loaded Burke's guy onto the ambulance. "Burke will think it worked and that I have a reason to really help him out- that I'll want to bring Owen back just like he planned for."
"We need you to keep me out of sight," Owen said. "So no one on the outside sees."
"Cristina, Owen," Finch said. "If we are going to make this work, we have to really make people believe it. I mean everyone. Even your friends."
"They would never tell-"
"Cristina, if he really has people on the outside they might be watching you and your friends. We have to take precautions."
Cristina nodded slowly, feeling sick about having to lie to everyone.
Sirens droned loudly through the air and Cristina stood numbly as the ambulance pulled away.
"You alright?" Finch asked, hand on Cristina's shoulder.
"No," Cristina responded, voice flat. "Not really."
"Why don't you let me drive you to the hospital, okay?"
Cristina nodded slowly, eyes still downcast.
"I'll pull this off," she promised.
"So I had to lie to all of you," Cristina sighed.
"Guys," Cristina's voice sounded through the air.
All four of them faced Cristina and now only the five original interns that started together were in the empty waiting room.
"Cristina?" Meredith whispered. "What's wrong?"
"It's Owen," Cristina said flatly, her eyes very, very dark. "He's dead."
The room went completely silent with dread and Cristina began to back up towards the door.
"What? But how?" Izzie stammered.
"I kissed him and he stopped me. I ran away and he ran after me through the street... he wasn't looking where he was going..."
"Cristina," Meredith mumbled, shaking her head, trying to comfort her friend.
"I want to be alone," Cristina said, and just like that, she had left the room.
"Izzie," Bailey said, entering the room, a smile on her face. "Denny's stable... what's wrong?"
"And it wasn't easy."
Cristina left quickly desperate to stay out of sight until she found Finch waiting at the entrance.
"You ready?" he asked.
"To trick Burke into telling us everything? Absolutely."
"I explained to Finch that all we really needed was one small sample of the antidote to have everything. Burke would never just hand it all over to me. But we do know someone who can work in labs and process what something is made up of."
"Bailey," Meredith whispered.
"Yep."
"So Owen isn't dead?" Bailey asked after Finch had her paged.
"Nope," Finch explained. "He's very much alive."
"Brilliant!" Bailey gasped.
"Brilliant," Meredith whispered.
"So then we went to speak to Burke," Cristina continued.
"You got the wire on?"Finch asked.
"Mhm," Cristina sighed. "I'm ready."
"Go on in then."
"So I did."
"Burke," Cristina whispered, sitting across from him once again in the visiting room. "I'm in."
"And he bought every second of it. He told me everything down to where I would find the device the made the antidote. It was when I was in his apartment that Meredith texted me that Lexie was in bad shape. I didn't have much time. So I found the machine that made the antidote. Of course it was empty. But it still had traces of the antidote inside of it."
When Cristina finally found the room she picked up her phone and hit redial, pressing it to her ear.
When Finch answered, Cristina said, "Got it."
"That's my girl," Owen's voice spoke up from next to Finch.
"I told them about Lexie. So we rushed over here. Bailey was waiting. It turns out what was in the antidote was rather basic to duplicate and she did all while Lexie was in surgery. She made just enough to get to Lexie and we did just in time. She's making more though so everyday those who were brought back can take it in pill form. Also, from wearing the wire, we have enough evidence to get Burke locked away for a very, very long time under the charges of kidnapping and medical testing without consent."
Mark took Lexie's hand and squeezed it. "So we get to live?" he asked.
Cristina nodded. "Yes. And without the constant weakness. You all get to live a normal- well as normal as you can be at this point- happy life."
George reached up to touch his swelling face and smiled. He grabbed Heather and kissed her hard on the mouth. Meredith leaned into Derek and sighed happily. Alex hugged Jo. Izzie cheered because she got to keep Denny. April and Jackson joined in because they got to keep Reed and Charles.
Meredith walked up to Cristina and hugged her tightly. "Thank you," she whispered.
Cristina looked over her shoulder at Owen. "You're welcome."
Meredith pulled back. "What about the others that worked with Burke?"
"We've got the phone of the man who tried to hit Owen. It has all the contact information in it. They are all being taken in as we speak."
Meredith smiled widely and went back to Derek.
Cristina sighed and walked out into the hallway. Owen chased after her.
He caught her hand. And when she turned around to see him, he kissed her.
"I love you," he whispered when he pulled back. "I want to spend the rest of my life with you."
