A/N: Hmmm….is all I'm gonna say at the start of this chapter.

Looking Alex up and down Morgan Novak sneered, "Officer Cabot you've upgraded your neighborhood, how nice for you."

"Can I help you with something Mr. Novak?" Asked Alex in a tired voice.

"I wish to speak to my daughter." Replied Morgan attempting to move past Alex.

"Sir, with all due respect its five in the morning and Casey is sleeping. I have no intention of waking her after everything she has been through in the past two weeks." Replied Alex attempting to keep the anger out of her voice.

"Who are you to keep me from seeing my daughter?" Asked Morgan Novak.

Before Alex could reply she felt a soft hand on her back, "It's okay Al, go back to bed you need to be up in a few hours and you've barely had any sleep this week."

"You sure?" Asked Alex searching her girlfriend's face for a clue as to her emotional state.

Casey could see Alex's hesitation and reached up and pressed a soft kiss to the corner of her lips, "I'm sure, go back to bed I won't be long. I love you."

"I love you too." Replied Alex before leaning close and whispering, "If you need me just yell."

Watching as Alex headed towards their bedroom Casey turned her attention to the man in the doorway watching their interaction with a look of distaste, "What do you want Father?"

"Aren't you going to invite me in?"

"No. I told you, if you can't accept Alex then you're not welcome in my life. Now what do you want?" Replied Casey her arms folded across her chest.

"I heard about the shooting at the DA's office, I was worried about you."

"Serena was shot almost two weeks ago! Not to mention Serena's name has been all over the news. You could have called or visited at a reasonable time rather than the early hours of the morning." Replied Casey. "What do you really want?"

"Fine, I've decided it's time for you to come and work at the firm." Replied Morgan. "It's time to stop slumming and take your rightful place in society."

"No thank you, I'm happy where I am." Replied Casey.

"This isn't negotiable, you are a Novak, our name is above the door..."

"Let me stop you there, I will only be a Novak until Alex plucks up the courage to ask me to marry her and then I will be more than happy to be Mrs. Cabot. I want nothing from you, not your business, not your blessing and certainly not your money. Thank you for stopping by, you can leave now. Don't bother coming back until you can accept my girlfriend and decisions." Not waiting for a reply Casey closed the door and leaned back against it as she calmed her heart rate.

Walking back into their bedroom Casey slid under the covers; a smile coming to her face as Alex instinctively reached out and pulled her close pressing a soft kiss to the top of her head.

"Everything okay?" Asked Alex her voice thick with sleep.

"Everything's fine." Replied Casey snuggling further into the blondes embrace. "I love you Alexandra Cabot, thank you for being in my life."

"I love you too Casey and you don't have to thank me, it's a privilege to know you and love you." Replied Alex, before she was overtaken by a huge yawn.

"Sleep beautiful." Whispered Casey, chuckling quietly when she received a light snore in response.

Alex was woken by someone stroking a gentle hand along her cheek, "Kim, Casey is right there." Smirked Alex only to give a yelp when she received a sharp pinch to the side.

"You think you're so funny." Replied Casey with a mock pout.

"Ahh you know I don't mean it." Grinned Alex pulling Casey close and claiming her lips in a soft kiss.

"Mmmm good morning." Whispered Alex.

"Definitely a good morning after that kiss. Now get that sexy butt of yours up, showered and dressed. Kim made us breakfast." Replied Casey.

"How does she seem?" Asked Alex as she swung her legs out of bed and stretched.

"Quiet, she did say she had slept for a few hours." Replied Casey openly ogling her girlfriend as she stretched. It took all her self control not to pounce on her when the blonde's shirt rode up revealing the tones abs she loved so much. She didn't realise Alex had spoken until she waved a hand in front of her face.

"What did you say?" Asked Casey, blushing a deep shade of red.

"I asked if you were okay? After your early morning visitor." Replied Alex with a smirk in her voice. "But you were too busy enjoying the view to hear me."

Rolling her eyes at the blonde's self-satisfied smirk she answered in a firm voice, "I'm fine. If he can't accept us, then I don't want him in my life."

"What did he want?" Asked Alex as she pulled Casey close.

"Me to go work for him, I told him to shove it." Smiled Casey. "Now go shower and then come and eat, she even made French toast."

"Okay, I won't be long." Smiled Alex pecking Casey on the lips as she headed to take her shower, her mind still fixed on the snippet of the conversation she overheard that morning. Casey wanted to marry her. With that thought in her mind she sung several off key verses of Sarah Bareilles' Brave before heading into the dining room for breakfast.

"Morning Kim, something smells amazing." Greeted Alex giving her friend's shoulder a warm squeeze in a show of affection.

"Thanks, it's the least I could do after everything you've done for me." Replied Kim as she returned to pushing her food around her plate.

Conversation was light as they ate; the easy silence was interrupted by the ringing of Alex's phone. Excusing herself from the table Alex walked into the lounge to answer the call, "Cabot."

"Hey Al, it's Amanda, sorry to call you so early. The doctor is awake; you want to meet me at the hospital to interview her?"

"Yeah, I'll be there in half an hour." Replied Alex hanging up and heading back into the kitchen.

"That was Amanda, Dr Allen is awake, and we're going to interview her. If you want a lift to the hospital you can come with me? If not I'll have a radio car outside before I leave and they can take you in?"

"I'll come with you." Replied Kim standing to gather her belongings.

"I think I'll come with you, I'm just working from home today, it might do Kim some good to have some company." Added Casey as she started clearing the table.

"That's a good idea; there will be a car outside until I come home tonight.' Replied Alex.

"Okay, you'll be careful, right?" Asked Casey.

"Of course, I have you to come home too." Replied Alex, pulling her girlfriend into her arms.

Ten minutes later they were on their way to the hospital Alex's mind running through everything she needed to do that day and the questions she would need to ask the doctor. As she pulled across a junction she became aware of a large SUV racing too fast towards her, before she could react there was a sickening crash sending the car spinning into the oncoming traffic.

Casey felt the impact but it took her a few seconds to process what had happened she felt something warm trickling down her face making her eyes sting. Turning her neck she could see someone coming towards the car, thinking they were coming to offer aid she tried to call out.

She heard the backdoor open and a scuffle but she couldn't twist her neck the seatbelt having snapped tight across her chest on impact, blinking to try and clear her vision she saw the stranger leaving with someone in their arms, before she could process what she was seeing she was overtaken by darkness.

Opening her eyes Alex turned to the passenger seat seeing blood on Casey's face her eyes closed she started to panic, as she twisted to look in the back seat her panic increased when she couldn't see Kim. Swallowing down her fear and nausea she reached across and pressed her fingers to Casey's neck relieved to find a strong pulse.

Hearing the wail of sirens growing closer Alex squeezed Casey's hand in hers as she reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone hitting the redial function it took just three rings for Amanda to answer.

"Rollins."

"Amanda, someone hit us...Kim's gone." Replied Alex noticing her voice was slightly slurred.

"Say that again?" Requested Amanda.

Gritting her teeth against the nausea and pain in her head, "We were on our way to the hospital when a SUV rammed us, Casey is unconscious and Kim is gone. You need to start pulling CCTV."

"Gone?" Asked Amanda.

"Yeah, gone as in taken."

"I'll get a bus out to you." Replied Amanda.

"One's already here, just find Kim." Replied Alex hanging up as the paramedic approached the car.

"Miss where are you hurt?"

"I'm fine, help Casey."Replied Alex.

"We can help you both, lets get this on and get you out of the car." Replied paramedic as he slipped a neck collar around Alex's neck.

"Okay." Replied Alex knowing the quicker she complied the quicker she could get back to looking for Kim. Hearing Casey give a groan she turned her head as quickly as the neck brace would allow.

"Al...what?" Asked Casey her eyes fluttering closed.

"It's going to be okay, I promise." Replied Alex squeezing Casey's hand.

Twenty minutes later Alex was pacing the hospital corridor as she waited to for Liv to arrive and someone to tell her how Casey was, she was becoming more and more frustrated with each lap of the corridor.

Just as she was about to pull her gun and threaten the snotty receptionist a doctor stepped out and asked for Casey's family.

"Doctor, I'm Detective Cabot, Casey's girlfriend. H-how is she?"

"She will be just fine, the wound on her head needed four stitches, and she has some bruises. I want to keep her in for an observation for a few hours, but you're welcome to sit with her."

"Thank you." Replied Alex already walking towards Casey's room. Pushing open the door she felt her knee's buckle with relief as she saw Casey sitting up and smiling at her.

"Well that was eventful." Smiled Casey, before letting out a muffled "Oomph." As she was engulfed in a hard hug by the blonde.

"I was so frightened when I saw the blood." Whispered Alex, burying her face in Casey's neck.

"Hey, I'm okay." Whispered Casey they remained in a tight embrace for a few minutes before breaking apart. "Any news on Kim?"

"Munch and Fin are going through CCTV and Amanda spoke to the doctor, she doesn't remember much but confirmed it was Angie that attacked her. The doctor thinks she'll make a full recovery." Replied Alex.

Hearing a gentle knock at the door, Alex's hand went to her gun only moving away when Liv stepped into the room. "How are you both doing?"

"We're both a little banged up but no lasting damage; I've even got a cool Harry Potter scar going on." Smiled Casey trying to put Alex's mind at ease, she could sense the tension radiating from the blonde.

"We have any leads?" Asked Alex.

"Yeah, she screwed up, when she hit you she busted the radiator so they only got a few miles before the car died. We have a witness who saw them getting into a cab. We're trying to locate the driver." Replied Liv.

"Good, I'm sick of this woman." Snapped Alex, her usual demeanor replaced with fear and self-recrimination coming out as anger.

"Calm down. Alex none of this is your fault, she knew the only way to get near Kim was to do something drastic; you had her too well protected. As soon as we have an address from the cab company we will be a step closer to ending this mess." Replied Liv in a calm voice.

"I know, I'm just frustrated." Replied Alex running a hand through her hair, wincing as the movement tugged on her bruised ribs.

Their conversation was interrupted by the ringing of Liv's cell phone, "Benson...Yes Sir...We're on our way." Hanging up she looked up at her friends.

"Cab dropped them off at Kim's apartment, the uniforms confirmed they're in there." Explained Liv.

"Let's go." Replied Alex pecking Casey on the lips, "I love you."

"I love you too, please be careful. Both of you." Replied Casey.

"Promise." Echoed both Detectives as they left the room.

Kim opened her eyes, only to slam them shut again as the pain in her head intensified. What the hell happened? Trying to open her eyes again she looked at her surroundings, wait why was she in her bedroom? The last thing she remembered was being in Alex's car on her way to see Serena.

Hearing the door open she turned her head, a smile lighting up her face as Serena stepped into the room, wait no, that wasn't Serena, "Angie, what happened?"

"Its okay, we can be together now, no one will be able to come between us." Replied Angie sitting on the edge of the bed, gently stroking Kim's hair. She was dressed in one of the outfits Serena kept at Kim's apartment.

Wanting nothing more than to shrug the woman off, Kim knew she needed to play along if she had any hope of getting out of the situation. "Good."

"You should rest." Replied Angie leaning down and pressing her lips to Kim's.

Trying to suppress a shudder at the contact, Kim was relieved when Angie stood and walked to the wardrobe, where she began pulling out different things. Holding up the lace negligee Kim had brought Serena she said, "Maybe I'll wear this for you later."

"No! That's not for you." Growled Kim her anger over taking her fear as she climbed to her feet and ripped the garment out of Angie's hands only to receive a hard slap to the face, the blow almost sending her to her knees.

"You are mine." Yelled Angie her eyes darkening with anger.

"No, I'm Serena's." Yelled Kim struggling to her feet.

"She's dead, I made sure of that." Growled Angie pulling a gun from the back of her pants and pointing it at Kim. "I don't want to hurt you but I will make you mine."

"Do it!" Yelled Kim, "If Serena is dead then I have nothing to live for, so do it."

Angie took a deep breath and reached out a hand to trace across Kim's cheek and down over the swell of her breast, "I will make you mine. I know what you like; I watched. I can make you happy."

"No." Yelled Kim roughly pushing Angie's hand away as a wave of revulsion coursed through her.

Lifting the gun again Angie pointed it at Kim just as Kim reached up and grabbed her wrist.

Stepping out of Liv's car as they reached Kim's apartment building Alex was adjusting her vest as a gun shot rang out.
