Rosalie

I wasn't entirely sure what to do. My mind couldn't focus, nor could my eyes. My head was throbbing and I was pretty sure some of my ribs were broken. I hadn't felt pain like this in close to a hundred years. I wanted to cry, to scream, but when I tried, I only gargled up blood. My throat had collapsed. I glanced around as best I could without moving my head, frantically trying to find where the crazy man went.

"H—help!" I managed to finally rasp. I didn't know what else to do; I couldn't move.

I could hear someone running toward me quickly. I shut my eyes, praying that it wasn't my attacker again. I tried to look in the direction the sound was coming from, but my sight was growing dimmer by the second. Was I dying? It sure felt like it. An excrutiating pain was welling up in my shoulder. The footsteps were closer now. The pain was spreading. Whoever it was had entered the clearing. Please, please don't let it be him again.

"Rosalie!" the voice yelled. It was Emmett.

"Hurry! We—have to—to go," I whispered, trying to reach for him.

He was now standing over me. He kneeled down, though I could barely make out his face. I couldn't make out much of anything anymore.

"What happened? Was it the army?" he said, though his voice seemed far away, even though I knew he was right there. He stood up and growled when I gargled again in response. "Hey! Whoever the fuck you are – you better come out here right now so I can kill you!"

There was nothing but silence now. I watched Emmett running toward something. He was faster than I remembered, or maybe he was just angry. I needed help. He needed to help me. The pain was spreading from my shoulder. I couldn't feel my arm. I wasn't going to last much longer.

"Emmett!" I tried to scream, though I don't know if any actual sound came out. I couldn't see him anymore.

I lifted my head slightly and saw two figures running back toward me. The smaller one was in front. Oh no. The crazy man was coming back to finish me off. Why couldn't Emmett have just kept his mouth shut? Now we were both going to die. He needed to get away while he could, but he was chasing the vampire, closing in on him. Emmett wasn't going to get to him before he got to me, though. I could see the wild eyes bearing down on me, crazy, yet calm. He leaned toward me, but then was gone. Emmett had head butted him from the side and slammed him to the ground. I let my head lol to the side so I could see what was happening. Emmett killed the woman; maybe he could kill this guy, too.

Emmett was able to get a few punches in before the man started to fight back. He was all over Emmett, clawing, ripping, punching, and biting. Emmett held his own for a while, but he was slowing down. I knew he was in too much pain to keep going any longer, and slowly, but surely he fell more and more until he could no longer get back up. The other man was gone now and Emmett was sprawled out beside me, his face a mere foot from mine.

We were both going to die. Nobody was coming to save us. They wouldn't make it in time. I stared at Emmett as hard as I could. I wanted to take everything in. I prayed that somehow he would be okay, that he would be able to pull through. He was stronger than I was; he could handle it, recover. The pain from my shoulder was now in my chest, ripping me apart from the inside. It had to be another power, some sort of internal destruction. It had me now; I was going. I took one last look at Emmett, tears rolling down my cheeks. Then, everything went dark.
