Chapter 28 – Human and Werewolf

Living the quiet life near a wooded area in Berlin was probably the most boring thing that Frederick had ever done. Yes, he did enjoy the quiet life but nothing much really happened. So, his old hobbies of reading books, playing his flute and composing pieces of music kicked in...But one day it seemed to change. He was sitting outside, reading a novel when he heard the bushes rustling. He looked up to find a fox limping its way out of the greenery and Frederick saw that there was a trap on its leg. He set down his book and slowly and carefully, he walked over to the fox. The fox was timid...and yet lame. Slowly, he removed the trap from the animal's leg and tended to it before giving it a hearty meal.

I suppose that's what you get for being an animal lover.

Soon, the fox came with her mate and cubs for several weeks and Frederick fed them plenty of food. But now with it being winter, the foxes didn't come anymore and won't be until spring arrived. So, one of Frederick's habits was put on hold for the time being. But Frederick was running low on firewood to warm up his home, so when he got into town the suppliers had none. So, Frederick decided that would walk in the woods for firewood until the suppliers had more stock. The woods were dark but looked like a Christmas cake covered in powered icing sugar. Wrapped warmly in clothes, Frederick walked along picking up every single fallen branch or twig, put it inside his bag and carried on walking. He didn't know how far he'd gone, but he knew it was too far and was already on his third bag but so far, he needed more wood as it wasn't going to last for the entire winter. As he moved to his left, he noticed something in the distance but it wasn't easy to see as it was camouflaged by the snow. It was beginning to snow and Frederick wanted to get home quickly before the snow fall got heavier...but he really wanted to know what he had seen. So, taking a risk, he moved forward and got to a good distance before he and the thing that he had seen, froze...

Or rather animal.

Frederick and the wolf's gaze locked for what seemed like minutes. The wolf was white, a silvery white fur coat and was at least the size of a bear, but its eyes was what shocked him more; they seemed to be crimson red. The wolf stared at him before walking slowly forward...towards him.

"It's okay." He said. "I von't harm you. I have no intention." He knelt down carefully and slowly reached out. "Come und sniff me if you vant."

The wolf's eyes filled with confusion, before moving forwards. When it reached him, it sniffed his hand twice. Its ears pricked up, liking his hand and shuffled forwards like a dog to his owner. The wolf's tail wagged, happily. Frederick chuckled as he ruffled the animal's fur. Gods, the animals in this placed were tame! How was that possible? The wolf seemed to sense his confusion, so the animal licked him on the face and whimpered as though asking him something.

"I'm fine...just zinking...are you a boy or a girl?" The wolf looked at him in confusion, so Frederick took it upon himself and raised the wolf's back leg. "Oh...you're a boy." He said, before dropping the leg. The wolf seemed to shy away at this and Frederick felt slightly ashamed. "Hey," he said, trying to make the wolf forget. "You know vhere I can find some more vood?"

The wolf perked up again and barked. It scampered on ahead which made Fritz get to his feet and hurry after the animal. The wolf led him to every part of the forest and together they worked as a team to collect as much firewood as possible. When they were done, Frederick scratched behind the wolf's ears.

"Vell, zank you, boy. I must get home before ze snow gets heavier. I'll maybe see you soon."

The wolf whimpered. Frederick smiled sadly.

"I'm sorry, boy. But ve need to get back to our homes. I'm pretty sure your pack's missing you." But the wolf whimpered again and muzzled himself against Frederick's legs. "I know I'll miss you too. Tell you vhat, I'll come und visit you again, okay?"

The wolf whined. Frederick sighed and knelt down at the wolf's side. "I'll be fine. Tomorrow, if ze weazer is good?"

The wolf barked sadly and licked Frederick's cheek, before sadly walking away. Frederick felt awful again and watched as the wolf walked away, disappearing within the snow. Frederick then grabbed the belongings and hurried home.

It had been three days since Frederick had last seen the wolf. Since that day, the snow had gotten worse and Frederick knew that he couldn't go out there. He doubted that even the wolf could go out in that. But to be sure, Frederick stayed by the window in case the wolf did come along and find him. Now, the snow was starting to ease down, so Frederick got dressed and headed outside to find his wolf friend. To him it seemed like hours until he heard a rustle in the distance. He was beginning to wish he had brought some kind of protection. He wished his wolf was here now. As Frederick moved closer, he tried to stay hidden but also wanting to see who this could be. As he moved closer, Frederick could make out a mop of silvery white hair and a pale back. It was struggling against something that clinked in the open. Frederick moved again but his foot caught a twig, snapping it into two. Frederick looked up to find a young man with pale skin, dishevelled white hair...and crimson red eyes. Like his wolf. The young man grinned widely as the sight of him.

"You!" he cried.

"M-me?" Frederick stuttered.

"Yes, I remember you from ze other day! I know zis is ze first time you've seen me in my human form but—"

"Vait! Vhat do you mean human form?"

The young man paled even more, looking like a deer caught in headlights. "Ah, you veren't supposed to know that. Vell, you see I'm...a verevolf."

Frederick stared in amazement at the boy. A werewolf? How could that be? Werewolves didn't exist. The boy's pout broke his thoughts.

"You don't believe me, do you?" he whimpered.

"Vell, I..." Frederick said, not knowing what to say.

"Vell, I vould show you but I'm kinda tied up at ze moment."

"Vhat do you mean?"

The silver haired boy lifted up his left leg to show a bear trap hanging from it. Frederick gasped at the sight and he hurried forward to examine the wound.

"How did zis happen?" he cried.

"Vell, I vas valking round in my volf form, trying to find your secret und zis damned snow vas covering it. Und here I am. It vas a bitch vhen shifting."

"I zink I can imagine." Frederick then examined the trap. "I zink I might have to take you back to my house. I have ze right equipment to get zis off. Come on, I'll help you."

And he held out his hands and lifted the struggling boy to his feet. He then manoeuvred the boy's arm over his shoulders and they walked slowly as they could back to Gilbert's home.

"By ze vay, I'm Frederick but you can call me Fritz, if you vant."

"Fritz? Vell, I'm Gilbert, pleased to meet you."

"You too, Gilbert."

Soon, Gilbert was sitting on the couch of Frederick's home, his leg wrapped in heavy bandages by a doctor that Fritz had called quickly. Gilbert was tired and he wanted a good sleep after today but he didn't want to be rude on Fritz after all they had both been trying to find each other. Gilbert sighed, snuggled into the couch and loving the feel of Fritz's clothes on his skin. The scent of the older man seemed to heighten his senses. A stirring in his loins seemed to bubble as Gilbert took in his scent. This made Gilbert freeze. No, Fritz couldn't be...

His mate? He had found his mate; after all, this time? Gilbert couldn't believe it. He soon began to feel uncomfortable for his leg and he shifted on the couch. Fritz then came back into the living room. "Are you okay, Gilbert?"

"Ja, just..."

"Just vhat?" he asked, sitting down by the werewolf's feet.

"Danke, Fritz. You didn't have to do zis for me."

"So, vhat? You helped me out ze ozer day, besides I couldn't let you side from blood loss. I also need to call ze police about zese."

"Zey...zey von't get me heavily involved, vill zey?"

"Only to take a statement from you."

Gilbert nodded and snuggled as much as he could into the couch, making his feet rest on Fritz's lap. The older man smiled and rubbed the silver haired man's feet. Gilbert smiled, his eyes starting to droop.

"You know vhat? I'll let you sleep; you need it after today und you can stay here until you're better."

"Zat vould be nice." Gilbert said a dreamy smile on face. "Und Fritz...zanks again."

"No problem. Please rest, Gilbert."

And as Gilbert settled himself to sleep, Frederick got to his feet; resting Gilbert's back on the couch and quickly left the room. But before Gilbert fell into the depths of sleep, he mumbled. "Ich liebe dich, Frederick."

A/N:

*Le sigh* I really to stop writing the same kind of plot lines again. Twice I've wrote the same thing happening to Gilbert...bear traps must really have it for him! Anyways, I must also really like having Fritz fall for Werewolf!Gilbert as I did in my other story 'Hetalia Academy: Fantasia'. Well, that's another story done for today I hope you enjoyed this as short and...Very fluffy as it was.

Also, I hope you've all had a good Christmas and a good new year's day and I wish you all the best for this year.

Reviews are love :)
