"If it makes you feel better I'm jealous..."
"Hey Zach!?" I laugh as he walks down the stairs not meeting my eyes. He mumble something incoherent. "You know...we've kissed the same amount of guys" I couldn't reset teasing him. His head snaps up with with an evil glint in his eyes, I gulp, worried.
"That's it..." he growls before attacking.
I screech just as he throws me over his shoulder pushing all the air out of me.
"Joey!" Zach calls, still carrying me, while I continue to regulate my breathing. Joey comes skipping in, he shakes his head when we sees us.
"I'm not going to ask" is his reply
"You okay there Gallagher girl?" Zach asks, I can hear the smirk in his voice.
I look at the current predicament I'm in "Well...I could be better, but it has a nice view" I joke but my tone was full of seriousness.
"Yeah? You like what you see?" he shakes his butt comically
"oh you know it...Josh liked it too" I full on burst out in laughter. I hear him grumble some not very nice words under his breath.
Then next thing I know is I'm being chucked up in the air once again "AHHH!" Zach catches me once again but this time bridal style.
He looks down at me smirking "Your just lucky I like you too much to drop you"
I raise a challenging eyebrow and pout "I thought you loved me" I joke
His face flashes with seriousness "I do love you, never question that Gallagher girl...come on we've got a little-big-guy waiting for us" he smiles once again. The same smile that always has the power to put a smile on my face and cause my heart to double in speed.
(Two Years Later...)
"Close your eyes" he whispers in my ear his hot breath causing shivers to crawl down my spine. His warm palms cover my eyes preventing me to see. Joey holds tightly onto my hand.
"Zach is this really necessary?..we've already been here, so many times"
I feel him place a feather light kiss on my jaw "Different days, different purposes" he says giving no clue as to why he has dragged me here.
A lot happened over two years. Zach moved in with Joey and I. I could never allow him to go back to that place.
(*Memory*)
We were sitting on the sofa watching a old film on tv. I was cuddled to Zach's side embraced in the safe feeling that always consumed me when we were close. Joey was sprawled across the two of us with his head in my lap. It had been no more than three days since we confessed our love and the Josh incident. I had forced Zach to stay in the spare bedroom for that time. I wouldn't -I couldn't- let him go back there.
"Move in" The words literally fell out. I turned my head to look at Zach. His eyes were wide.
"w-what?"
"Move in...I'm not going to let you go back there Zach" I spoke quietly looking down afraid of being rejected. My head was quickly pulled up followed by his lips moulding to mine.
He broke the kiss leaving me breathless.
"Are you sure Gallagher girl?" He eyes were uncertain but held joy and happiness. He searched my eyes and face for any signs of lying. He wouldn't find any because I did truly want this. I nod still stuck in the daze that was Zach. He peppered my face with tiny kisses causing me to blush and giggle like the teenager girl I was.
Joey was ecstatic at the prospect of Zach living with us.
"Only...a...few...more...steps" he continued to lead me cautiously avoiding and roots that could cause injures. "Keep you eyes closed" he whispers. I scrunch up my face to show him. He chuckles slightly.
"Ok open" he breaths
I have to gasp, this man will never stop surprising me
. How he managed to get a table here I don't know. The round table was draped with a white sheet over it and a candle was the centre piece sitting in the middle. Three tubs of ice cream sat on the table along with three spoons, bowls and chairs.
I stared in awe at the scene in front of me, I was only knocked out of it by two very familiar arms wrapping around me
"Happy anniversary Gallagher girl"
I spun around in his arms "You really know how to charm a girl don't-cha?" I whisper before capturing his lips with mine.
"Ewwww, gross" we heard a voice say full of disgust, we reluctantly parted. I looked at Joey who's face was contorted with disgust. He was eight now, and even more handsome. I had a few mini panic attacks when ever I thought about him growing up too fast. He was eight going on eighteen, he refused to call me mummy in public any more, but was quite happy to use the title at home.
I was eighteen in a few weeks. And I've already got the papers for Joey's adoption. Abby and I had a very long heart to heart about what was best for him. In the end Joey was the one to make the final decision. He wanted to be my son by law. He understood that his real mum and dad had passed on and loved him with all their heart. He said he wanted his mummy to be his mummy.
I cried with happiness for about a week.
Joey shook his head but then straighten up "Ma'am can I interest you in some water?" he was even wearing a suit, looking very uncomfortable in it too.
Zach was smart casual, he wore black jeans, white t-shirt with a black suit jacket (sleeves rolled up) and lastly his trusty converse.
Raising an eyebrow at Zach I ask "How much did you pay him?"
"twenty" he replies with leading me to a seat after pulling it out for me.
~Later~
"Graduation is in less than four weeks..." Zach trails off unsure of something. He scratches the back of his neck, a habit he does when he's nervous.
"anddd" I grin
I hear him huff out the air in his lungs before he stand up from his seat. He stalk towards me with purposeful steps.
He got a small black box out of his pocket, knelt on one knee. I think I went into shock.
"We're a little young for marriage Gallagher girl but smart enough to make and keep promises. And if you accept this ring then I promise I'll never stop loving you and Joey. I promise to be your protector even if you don't need one. I promise to be there for you. I promise you my future. I promise you my love" he open the box to reveal a sliver claddagh ring with an emerald heart.
Love
Friendship
Loyalty
I was practically sobbing by now. I all but leapt at Zach, causing him to fall to the ground. I clung onto him. This man was the love of my life. I know I'm young but this bond we have is stronger than titanium. We've both been hurt but we've healed each other.
"So Gallagher girl do you accept my promise?"
"I'd be stupid if I didn't"
~NMW~
"Cammie calm down I'm sure he's just stuck in traffic" Bex trys to reassure me while fixing my make-up. It was graduation and Zach was thirty minutes late. He was only meant to go to the supermarket to get a few last minute things on his motorbike.
"I know but he's been gone for an hour it only should have taken him twenty minutes"
"Mum relax" Joey kisses my cheek smiling slightly.
"I've tried calling him but he won't pick up, I'm worried" I finish just as my phone starts going off.
I scramble to pick it up "Hello" I was breathless
"Ms Morgan?" a deep voice asks
"Yes who is this?"
"My name is Dr Sanders, and if I'm correct you know Mr Goode?" Panic floods through me
"Yes. Why?!"
"I'm sorry Ms Morgan Zachary Goode was in a car crash, he's in surgery at the moment..." he continued to talk but the words didn't register.
I felt sick and weak as I fell to the floor
