Jazmine sat in front of her mirror trying to untangle her hair.
'It's clearly time for a hair appointment.' She thought, looking at her puffy unruly hair.
Her heart shaped necklace glisten on her neck, she loved it and hadn't stopped wearing it since Huey gave it to her.
"Hey Jazzy, what are you doing?" Ashley asked coming into her room.
Jazmine dramatically pointed to a comb and her hair, making Ashley giggle. Jazmine couldn't help but giggle with her, her hair looked like a giant display of cotton candy.
"You need a stylist, bad." Ashley pointed out while picking at a stray curl in Jazmine's hair.
"I know, I'm going to ask my mom if she can drop me off at my salon so I can get my hair back in order." Jazmine said, dropping her comb on her dresser and making her way downstairs with Ashley behind her.
Her mother was busy in the kitchen whipping up mashed potatoes and meatloaf for dinner.
"Hey girls. " Sarah greeted when she saw them approach her.
"Hey mom. Do you think, if you're not busy, you can drop me off at the salon? My hair is in dire need of it." Jazmine asked while making sure her mother had a full view of her hair.
"I can tell." Sarah joked, looking at her daughter's head.
The girls giggled.
"I'll tell you what, let me finish this and we'll head over there. Sounds like a plan?" Sarah said.
"Yay!" Jazmine cheered.
"Do you want to come along Ashley?" Jazmine asked.
"Sure." Ashley said, nodding her head.
They waited patiently until Mrs. Dubois finished the potatoes and soon were off to Jazmine's favorite salon.
"Hey Jazzy, it's good to see you girl." Leanna said brightly, beaming at her.
"Hey Leanna "Jazmine said while smiling back at her.
"This is my cousin Ashley" Jazmine introduced her cousin, who was looking around the salon uncomfortably.
"Well hello Ashley." Leanna said politely.
"Hello." Ashley said softly, still looking around.
'Has she never been in a black salon, or is it me?' Jazmine thought.
It seemed weird to her that her cousin was acting awkwardly.
"What's wrong Ashley? the place doesn't seem Michael kor's enough for you?" A voice behind them spoke.
Both girls turned around to see Rayonna behind them, whose hair looks like a giant puffball.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Ashley asked, snapping back angrily.
"It means you feel out of your environment. Sorry that there are no Mary Kate and Ashley's stylist to tweak your hair in here. I hope you do remember you were black at some point." Rayonna said casually but each word was laced with venom.
Ashley's face turned bright red as she bit her lip.
"Um, ladies can we not display that kind of behavior in my shop, please?" Leanna said, looking startled by the exchange.
Jazmine had never felt so embarrassed in her life, she just wanted to get her hair done but no here came Rayonna with her judgmental race rants.
"Sorry about that Leanna." Jazmine said apologetically.
She gave Rayonna a dirty look, which the girl rolled her eyes back as a response.
"I'm just going to do the usual today." Jazmine told Leanna, ready to get started and leave.
Leanna nodded.
"What about you young lady? " She asked Ashley.
"Nothing for me, I'm fine thank you. I'll just wait for Jazmine." Ashley said.
She made her way to the sitting area.
Jazmine and Leanna nodded.
"And you dear?" Leanna asked Rayonna.
"I'll just have my usual as well." Rayonna said briskly.
" Both of you follow me." Leanna said, leading both girls to the shampoo area.
They both sat in two empty chairs and let Leanna drape them with covering to protect their clothes.
"Nice necklace, where'd you get it?" Rayonna asked.
Jazmine raised her eyebrows.
"It was a Christmas gift from Huey." she replied, Rayonna nodded
"You should take it off so it won't get wet or slip off in the sink while you're getting your hair washed." Rayonna said sincerely.
"Okay." Jazmine agreed, frowning.
'When the hell did Rayonna all of sudden become so nice? She did have a point though.' Jazmine thought while taking her necklace off and laying it in the chair in front of her. She carefully wrapped it in a stray towel.
"Thanks." Jazmine thanked her sincerely.
The girl shrugged.
"Whatever, just be on time Monday." Rayonna said in her usual stuck up tone.
Jazmine rolled her eyes.
"Will do." she responded sarcastically.
Leanna came back with another one of her stylists to wash Rayonna's hair. The soothing massage on her scalp made Jazmine sleepy. She closed her eyes and feel asleep.
A couple of minutes passed and Leanna woke Jazmine up. She lead her to the blow dryer, but as Jazmine was walking toward the blow dryer she noticed that Rayonna was giving Ashley a look of contempt and disgust, Ashley was too busy looking at her phone to notice.
Jazmine rolled her eyes. The hate between those two was too real she thought as she sat under the dryer and fell asleep again because of the soothing hot air.
Ashley smirked to herself it was too easy snatching the necklace she was pretty sure that no one notice anything. She had checked if Leanna and that stylist were both busy washing Jazmine's and Rayonna's hair, hell they didn't even look up when Ashley walked up to the chair that Jazmine laid the necklace on.
'Both Jazmine and Rayonna had their eyes closed' she thought.
'By the time Jazmine realized that the necklace was gone, it would be too late.' She continued.
She fingered the necklace in her pocket and stared at Huey's picture on her phone, she couldn't help but feel that she was being stared at so she looked up to see Rayonna giving her a dirty look.
'What is this bitches problem?' Ashley thought while scowling back.
'Did she know?' Ashley thought, feeling alarmed; there was no way she could have seen her take that necklace.
As though Rayonna could sense her thoughts, she deliberately stared at the spot where Jazmine laid the necklace; she starred back at Ashley.
Ashley slightly groaned, why couldn't that stupid bitch mind her business? But there was no way in hell that she is going to let little miss ''Rosa Parks'' expose her. She would fix her. They both shot daggers at each other as the stylist now led Rayonna to the blow dryer.
And then an idea popped in her head as she stared at a sudden object.
'Bingo' she thought smirking.
"Here is the Finished Result" Leanna said proudly, turning Jazmine around in the chair so she could see. her hair was now in a beautiful head of golden orange curls to perfection.
"Thanks Leanna, my hair looks amazing as always." Jazmine said happily, loving her hair as she admired the curls in the mirror.
"Glad you love it honey, I aim to please." Leanna said beaming from the compliment.
"Well you succeeded." Jazmine said, smiling at her.
"Let me just get my necklace and I'll pay you." Jazmine said getting up.
"Okay, sweetheart just meet me up in the front" Leanna said, heading to the front.
Jazmine nodded and made her way to the shampoo station for the towel she had wrapped her necklace in. She opened it quickly to see that it wasn't there.
"Where is it?" Jazmine said as she panicked.
"Your disgusting cousin took it." Rayonna chimed behind her.
Her hair was also curly and flutter nicely around her oval face.
"What!" Jazmine said in disbelief.
Rayonna scoffed annoyed.
"I said Ashley took it. I saw her while we were getting our hair washed, I would have said something sooner, but I didn't think about it at the time. But I know she has it.'' Rayonna said, firmly grabbing a stray blue jean jacket that was hanging on the back of the chair and putting it on.
Jazmine shook her head, she knew that Rayonna really hated Ashley but to start unwanted drama and have her accuse Ashley of taking her necklace was a little too extreme.
"Look, Rayonna, why would Ashley take my necklace? Plus she was up at the front the entire time." Jazmine said not convinced.
"Who knows why your cousin does the things she does, I asked myself that when I used to be friends with her. So instead of picking your brain about that, you need to be confronting her and get your necklace back. Who knows what your sick, demented cousin has done with it or plan to do with it." Rayonna said.
"Fine, but I'm sure your pretty wrong." Jazmine said, scowling and making her way, with Rayonna behind her, to Ashley's. She just wanted her necklace back. They leave, this whole situation was giving her a damn headache.
Ashley was sitting at the front patiently, busy on her cell phone as usual.
"Um, Ashley?" Jazmine said tentatively.
Ashley looked up.
"Omg, Jazzy your hair looks so pretty." Ashley said, smiling and standing up while fingering one of Jazmine's curls.
"Thanks Ashley, I have to ask you something," Jazmine said, trying to rush the situation quickly.
"Sure, what's up? " Ashley replied.
"Well, I took my necklace while I was getting my hair washed and wrapped it in a towel at the shampoo station, you didn't happen to come by and take it did you?" Jazmine said carefully.
Ashley looked surprised.
"Of course not, I would never." Ashley said firmly.
Rayonna snorted.
"Clearly she's lying." Rayonna said.
Ashley rolled her eyes at her response.
"I don't think this has anything to do with you." Ashley said calmly.
"It does when I was the one that saw you." Rayonna shot back just as calmly.
Ashley laughed with disbelief.
"Why would I steal from my own cousin? And besides, I was up here the entire time." Ashley said folding her arms.
"I think you made a mistake Rayonna, I'll just ask the staff if they saw it." Jazmine said softly, ready to drop the situation.
"Ask them for what, when the real culprit is right here growing a backbone, Dubois, Ashley is going to run all over you and probably do more than steal jewelry from you." Rayonna said.
"She's crazy." Ashley said, smirking.
"Crazy enough to know that you'll steal from your own fam! You have a lot of issues Ashley." Rayonna said unfazed.
"The only one that has issues is you. You're just mad because we're not friends anymore and nobody is kissing your ass either." Ashley retorted.
"Bullshit! Not having you as a friend anymore is quite the relief." Rayonna responded.
"Same here." Ashley shot back.
Rayonna bristled with anger. Jazmine neversly watched the interaction, along with several customers, with interest.
"Guys!" Jazmine said cutting in.
''Coming from you, I would say I'm an honest enemy." Rayonna said seriously.
"Jazmine how do you know she wasn't the one to take the necklace?" Ashley asked, cutting in before Jazmine could reply.
"Why would I take her necklace?" Rayonna pointed out, rolling her eyes at the lying thief.
"Because, you don't like me so it would be easy for you to accuse me of doing it." Ashley said.
"You did ask me to take my necklace off." Jazmine said, getting suspicious.
"Yeah, so you wouldn't lose it. I had a similar situation where I lost my necklace down the drain and it was a very special necklace too. I was very hurt when I lost it so I didn't want you to experience the same situation.'' Rayonna said, getting exasperated.
"But you don't even like me, so why would you care?" Jazmine said narrowing her eyes at the girl.
"Just because I don't like someone doesn't mean I can't care. If you think I took your stupid necklace I can prove I didn't." Rayonna said.
She pulled out her jean's pockets and then went for her jacket's.
"See I don't have-" Rayonna stopped in horror as she now pulled Jazmine's necklace out her front pocket.
"I thought I was the one that stole the necklace." Ashley said, smirking and shaking her head.
"You really have some nerve." Jazmine said as she snatched the necklace from her hands.
"I swear I didn't take it Jazmine. You have to believe me." Rayonna said, still looking shocked.
" You're a thief." Ashley said snorting.
"You framed me!" Rayonna snapped back.
She was seething with anger.
"You did it!" She added.
"I thought we just established that you stole my cousin's necklace." Ashley said sneering.
"You put it in my coat pocket after you found out that I knew you took it. You are the type of trash that they forget to pick up on a Monday morning. You are so low, Ashley." Rayonna said furiously.
"That's ridiculous, " Ashley said.
"Look, Rayonna, just admit you took my necklace. You were the one that told me to take it off, a word advice, I think you need to let go of that grudge and bitterness your holding onto and not use my property as a reason to get back at Ashley because you hate her guts." Jazmine said pointedly.
"Unbelievable. You know what? Fuck both of you. Jazmine when that snake fucks you over, don't be so shocked when I say I told you so." Rayonna said angrily,
She paid for her hair and stormed out the salon.
"I told you that girl has problems. I'm just glad we caught her with your necklace, who knows what's the next thing she'll be after. Your boyfriend? Your mom outside, I'll tell her we're ready." Ashley said, leaving out the salon as well.
Jazmine sighed and paid Leanna and apologized for the scene. She nodded with understanding.
The moment they got back home Jazmine went straight to the freeman's. She needed to clear her head and the perfect place to do that was with her boyfriend. Just as she opened the door Rayonna came pouring out the freeman's front door visibly upset with Huey scowling.
'What the hell is going on here?' Jazmine thought angrily.
Ashley's voice now ringed in her head.
"Next thing you'll know she'll be after your boyfriend"
"Huey!" Jazmine said, now watching Rayonna as the girl drove away.
"Jazmine." Huey repeated back.
"What was that?" Jazmine asked, obviously not in the mood to play games.
"Do you think Rayonna stole your necklace?" Huey asked.
"What?" Jazmine said, caught off guard.
"That's why she was here. She told me that Ashley stole the necklace that I gave you and it somehow rounded up in her pocket making her look like she was the one to take it in the first place." Huey finished.
So Rayonna couldn't call Dr. Phil to talk about this situation. Her boyfriend had to be the one to listen to her woes.
"Of course. I believe she took it, she hates mine and Ashley's guts. Besides, I don't appreciate her coming over here to talk to you about our situation, if she wants to vent to somebody she can vent to her own boyfriend." Jazmine said
"Yeah, well I don't think she took it." Huey said.
Jazmine could not help to think if he was serious right now. She came over here to clear her head away from this situation not to hear him take Rayonna's side, especially when she was the one that stole her necklace.
"So you're taking her side?" Jazmine said, folding her arms.
"No, but I believe she was telling the truth. I mean, Ashley is just someone that has come into your life unexpectedly. You should be a little wary with her, you know nothing about her but Rayonna does. She told me that Ashley has done some things and to be careful of her. Don't you find it odd that she gave me a ring and had all this very expensive jewelry?" Huey said seriously.
"Ugh, Ashley is nothing to worry about, that's just Rayonna being a bitch because she got caught. And Ashley is rich, she has a lot of money that's how she was able to give everybody pricy jewelry. You know what? Why am I talking about this? I came over here to get away from the stress, not dwell on it." Jazmine said leaving
"Jazmine wait!" Huey yelled behind her, but she ignored him and kept walking.
Jazmine was going to the one place where she could clear her mind.
The hill.
