A/N: So I was watching The Little Mermaid and I decided that I was going to do something that I don't normally do, which is write completely out there fanfictions. I know that usually these are like vampires and werewolves and stuff like that, but I decided to do a two-part series of these. One of them, Santana will be the mermaid and Rachel will be the human, and in the other Rachel will be the mermaid and Santana will be the human. I hope you like them! :)
Princess Santana Lopez loved the water. At seventeen, she spent as much time as she could just swimming around in the ocean oustide of her palace. She would occassionally play around with the dolphins or fish that would swim by, but usually it was just her. As she walked around the beach one afternoon, she saw a creature swimming around. Frowning, she went as close to the water as she could without actually getting. "Hello?" she said. Suddenly, a girl appeared and Santana jumped back in surprise. "Oh my god!"
"Hello." the girl said shyly. Santana smiled slightly as she took the new girl in. She was beautiful. Santana had never seen anyone like her. "I'm Rachel."
"Santana."
"Would you like to join me?" Santana grinned.
"I'd love to, but I have to be at some stupid party in twenty minutes, so I can't." she said.
"What's the party for?"
"My brother's birthday." Santana explained. Rachel nodded. "Would you... I mean, do you want to come? I'm sure I have something you could wear." she offered. Rachel smiled.
"Unfortunately, I can't. I wish I could though." she declined. Santana nodded slowly.
"So... do you live around here?" she asked. Rachel nodded as one of the palace workers appeared.
"Princess, your mother asks that you come and get ready for your brother's party." the man said. Santana sighed.
"Okay. I'll be right in, Edward." she said. Rachel was gawking at her when she looked back. "What?"
"You're a princess?" Santana winked.
"I'll see you around." she said, smiling as she walked away.
"You ready hermano?" Santana said to her brother as she watched their parents walk down the stairs to address the party goers. Her younger brother looked up at his sister.
"Was your birthday this..."
"Boring?" He nodded. "Yes, it was. Don't worry... you get used to it. You won't like it, but you get used to it. Want to know a secret?" she whispered. He nodded. "You and I are going to have an epic after party tonight. Trust me, you'll actually like this one." she said, grinning. He smiled. "Now get ready. You look great, little man." she said, fixing his tie.
"You look really pretty, Santi." he said, smiling up at her. She gave him a genuine smile and fixed her tiara before giving herself a last once over in the mirror.
"Thanks, buddy. Let's do this." she said, standing at the top of the stairs.
"And now presenting, Princess Santana Alejandra Ricarda Catalina and Prince Carlos Andres Alvaro Nicolas." Santana smiled at her brother and allowed him to lead her down the stairs. As she descended down the palace stairs into the ballroom, her eyes kept straying to the large window. She had a great view of the beautiful ocean and all she wanted to do was ditch the party and go find that Rachel girl again. Something about her seemed... interesting, and Santana wanted to know more about her.
"Santi, do try and pay attention to your brother this evening. Its a big night for him." her mother whispered as she stood next to her parents. Santana resisted the urge to roll her eyes.
"He's turning eleven, Mom. Big deal." she whispered back.
"It is a big deal, mija." she said. Santana looked around at the rather boring party.
"Mom... did Carlos even get a say in any of this? This doesn't seem like the kind of party he'd plan." she questioned. Her mother stared at her daughter before turning her attention to her youngest child.
"Nino, ready for your party?" she asked.
"Yea, Mom... great. Fun." he said. Santana winked at him as a reminder of what came later and he smiled. "I'm gonna go eat something." he said. Santana laughed as she accepted an offer to dance.
The next day Santana was back on the beach, looking for Rachel. Spotting the girl, she smiled. "Hi." she said as she swam towards her. Rachel smiled.
"How was your party?" she asked.
"It was okay. You should have come." Santana said. Rachel shrugged. "Maybe next time?" Santana asked. Rachel frowned. "What... What's wrong?"
"I... Santana, I have to tell you something." Rachel said. Santana watched as she pulled herself onto a rock.
"You're..." Santana stared at the girl's fins. "You're a mermaid?" she whispered. Rachel nodded.
"I'm actually the princess of the merpeople..." she said. Santana's jaw dropped.
"That's... amazing." she said.
"I've always wanted to be a human though..." Rachel said. Santana frowned as she pulled herself onto the same rock.
"I... I wish I could help." she whispered. Rachel smiled.
"I... I have a way... But I need your help." she said, handing Santana a bottle.
"So... this potion will turn you into a human?" Santana asked as they hid. Rachel nodded.
"Yes... Please, Santana." she whispered. Santana nodded and opened the bottle.
"So what exactly am I supposed to do?" she asked.
"Well, it may make me a little weak. I need you to catch me so I don't fall and drown." Rachel explained. Santana nodded carefully.
"Okay... Open your mouth." she said, pouring the liquid into Rachel's mouth.
"Rachel, just put one foot in front of the other." Santana said. Two months later, Santana was trying to teach Rachel how to act like a human. She couldn't help but think that everything the smaller girl did was adorable. Catching Rachel so she didn't fall, she laughed. "You're cute." she said. Rachel smiled.
"Thank you, Princess." she said.
"You don't have to call me 'Princess' all the time. Just call me Santana." the taller girl said. Rachel nodded. "You're really getting the hang of this walking thing, huh?" she said. Rachel smiled.
"Can we go walk down the beach?" she asked. Santana nodded.
"Absolutely." They made their way to the sand. "Do you miss the ocean?" she asked as she held the girl's hand to balance her.
"A little bit." Rachel admitted. Santana looked down. "But I have no regrets. Not even adicating my title of princess." The other girl nodded.
"Rachel-"
"Santana-"
Both girls stopped at the same time and laughed awkwardly. "You go first." Rachel said. Santana smiled.
"Um... Okay... Well... I... Rachel, we've been spending a lot of time together and well... I've fa... I'm in love with you." Santana mumbled. Rachel stopped walking and tugged Santana's hand back.
"I... You love me?" Rachel asked. Santana nodded.
"I don... I mean, can mermaids fall in love?" she asked dumbly. Rachel laughed.
"Yes we can fall in love." she said softly, kissing Santana slowly. "And I most definitely have."
Six years later...
"Santana! Have you seen my shoe?" Rachel called out. Santana smiled at her wife of three months.
"Baby, why are you freaking out?" she asked. Rachel turned around.
"Well, lets see... Its my coronation day!"
"I get that, but calm down a little bit, love." Santana said as she kissed her wife. She put her tiara on and waited patiently for Rachel to get ready before the couple left their bedroom.
"Rachel, are you ready?" Santana's father asked.
"Yes, Your Majesty." The king laughed.
"For the last time, Rachel, you're our daughter-in-law. Call us Nicolas and Anita." Anita said. Rachel smiled and nodded. Santana grinned at her wife before looking down the hall.
"Carlito, get your butt down here." she said.
"For a princess, you're really not that eloquent." Rachel commented. Santana shrugged and winked at the smaller woman.
"Everyone ready?" Edward asked. Nicolas nodded and went to stand at the top of the stairs with his wife. "Presenting King Nicolas Ambrosio Basilio Cristobal and Queen Anita Ariadna Esmerelda Dorita." The royal couple walked down the stairs.
"Baby, I'm so proud of you right now." Santana whispered. Rachel smiled and brushed some of Santana's side ponytail back in her ponytail. "When you get that tiara, you're going to be even more beautiful than you are right now." the princess whispered.
"I love you." Rachel whispered. Santana grinned.
"I love you too."
"San, are you ready?" Carlos whispered. Santana nodded and went to stand by her brother.
"Presenting, Princess Santana Alejandra Ricarda Catalina and Prince Carlos Andres Alvaro Nicolas." The siblings joined their parents and turned to wait for Santana's bride. "And now presenting Rachel Isabela Maria Alicia." Santana smiled as she heard the name that Rachel had chosen herself. She'd wanted to erase all memory of life in the sea after her father had disowned her for becoming human. The smaller brunette appeared at the top of the stairs and Santana held her breath as she watched the future princess descend. After Rachel took her oath Santana stepped forward to place her wife's tiara on her head. Once it was on, Rachel accepted Santana's outstretched hand as the royal family appeared before their subjects.
"Rachel, you look beautiful." Santana whispered in her wife's ear. Rachel smiled widely at her Princess.
"As do you, my love." she said, kissing her wife.
A/N: I don't know how I feel about this chapter... Let me know if I should write the second part...
