Inside the church...

The countdown showed 3:23. Elliot ran in with his map and gave it to The Doctor.

"Look at that! Perfect! Dyslexia never stopped Da Vinci or Einstein, it's not stopping you."

"I don't understand what you're going to do."

"Two phase plan. First, the sensors and cameras will tell us when something arrives. Second, if something does arrive, I use this to send a sonic pulse through that network of devices, a pulse which could temporarily incapacitate most things in the universe."

"Knock 'em out. Cool."

"Lovely place to grow up, round here." The Doctor said casually as he worked at a computer.

"Suppose. I want to live in a city one day. Soon as I'm old enough, I'll be off."

"I was the same, where I grew up."

"Did you get away?"

"Yeah."

"Do you ever miss it?"

The Doctor turned to look at Elliot. "So much."

"Is it monsters coming? Have you met monsters before?"

"Yeah."

"You scared of them?"

"No! They're scared of me."

"Will you really get my dad back?"

"No question." He went back to working on the computer.

"I left my headphones at home." Elliot walked out of the church.

The Doctor looked at the screen, the countdown showed just over a minute.

Graveyard, Dark...

Rory was setting up a camera on one of the gravestones.

"How're you doing?" The Doctor asked coming up behind him.

"It's getting darker." He looked up at the sky to see the light being blocked.

"How can it be getting dark so quickly?" Lexi asked popping up from behind another gravestone causing The Doctor jump.

"Ah! Well, shutting out light from within the barricade. Trying to isolate us in the dark. Which means..." They all heard a rumbling. "It's here."

A few minutes later...

The Doctor, Lexi, Rory and Ambrose were heading back into the church. Ambrose was having trouble with the door.

"I can't open it! It keeps sticking! The wood's warped."

The Doctor tried opening the door. He turned back to Lexi and Rory. "Any time you want to help."

"Can't you sonic it?" Rory asked.

"It doesn't do wood!"

"That is rubbish!"

"Oi! Don't diss the sonic!"

Lexi sniggered at that. She and Rory joined them and the four opened the door.

They made their way inside the church to join Tony and Nasreen as the church door slammed shut behind them. The ground was shaking due to the imminent arrival,

"See if we can get a fix." The Doctor ran to the computer. Items were falling off shelves. He narrowed down the area with the program Tony set up. The computers sparked as the power went out.

"No power." Tony stated,

"It's deliberate."

"What do we do now?" Rory asked.

Tony turned on a bright torch,

"Nothing. We've got nothing! They sent an energy surge to wreck our systems."

"Is everyone OK? Is anyone hurt?" Lexi asked concerned, seeing if anyone had been hit by falling objects.

"I'm fine." Nasreen replied,

"I'm good." Tony supplied.

"Me too." Ambrose reassured,

There was a loud rumbling.

"Doctkr, what was that?" Rory asked.

"It's like the holes at the drill station." Tony said remembering what he had heard earlier,

"Is this how they happened?" Nasreen asked.

The Doctor kneeled then bended over to listen to the ground. "It's coming through the final layer of Earth."

"What is?!" Lexi's asked a tiny bit panicked.

The Doctor stood quickly. There was silence.

"The banging's stopped." Tony pointed out,

Ambrose looked around the room. "Where's Elliot? Has anyone seen Elliot? Did he come in? Was he in when the door was shut? Who counted him back in? Who saw him last?"

"I did." The Doctor replied.

"Where is he?"

"He said he was going to get headphones."

"And you let him go? He was out there on his own?"

Tony put a hand on Ambrose's shoulder, trying to comfort her.

All of a sudden they heard Elliot banging on the door.

"Mum! Grandpa Tony! Let me in!"

Ambrose rushed to the door. "Elliot!"

"Let me in."

"He's out there! Help me."

"Open the door!... Mum! There's something out here!"

Everyone worked on opening the door.

"Push, Elliot, push, Elliot!

"... Mum!"

"Hurry up!"

"Mummy."

"Come on!" Tony manage to get the door open.

"Elliot!" Ambrose cried out.

Everyone rushed outside, but there was no sign of him, Elliot was gone.

"Where is he?" Ambrose ran out. "He was here! Elliot." She ran into the graveyard.

"Ambrose, don't go running off!" The Doctor called after her.

"Ambrose!" Tony ran to go after her.

Graveyard...

"Elliot! It's Mum!" Ambrose saw Elliot's headphones laying on the ground nearby. She went over and cradled them in her arms. "No-o-o-o-o-o!"

Suddenly, a creature knocked her down on the ground. It looked reptilian,

"Get off me!"

The creature scanned her. Tony came and knocked the thing away from his daughter. It lashed out with its tongue, getting Tony in the neck before running away. Tony was in pain.

"Dad!"

The Doctor, Rory and Lexi came running up.

"What happened?" The Doctor asked worriedly.

"My dad's hurt."

"Get him into the church now!"

"Elliot's gone. They've killed him, haven't they?"

"I don't think so. They've taken three people, when they could've just killed them up here. There's still hope, Ambrose. There's always hope."

Ambrose was crying. "Then why've they taken him?"

"I don't know. I'll find Eiot, I promise. But first I've gotta stop this attack. Please, get inside the church,"

"Come on, Dad." Ambrose then helped Tony head back to the church.

"So, what now?" Lexi asked.

Cwmtaff, Dark...

The Doctor was walking down the street wearing sunglasses that could pick up heat signatures. He stared at his hand and smiled. He saw something move in the bushes, something that didn't give off any heat.

"Cold blood... I know who they are." He said in a sing-song voice.

The Doctor went and stood by the meals on wheels van, whistling. He took a fire extinguisher from the front seat and shut the door. In the window, he saw the reflection of the creature approaching. He spun out of the way as it attacked and used the fire extinguisher. The creature screamed as Rory and Lexi jumped out of the back, yelling. They all pushed the creature in the refrigerated back and locked the door.

"We got it!" Lexi and Rory exclaimed.

"Defending the planet with meals on wheels!"

They raised their hands to high five, but were distracted by a rumbling.

"What was that?" Lexi asked.

"Sounds like they're leaving."

"Without this one?" Rory asked.

The darkness started going away as the sun was allowed to shine through again.

"Looks like we scared them off."

"I don't think so. Now both sides have hostages."
