One of the Ghouls

BLB- I'm back, and I wanted to wish all of you guys a Merry late Christmas. And a happy freaking holiday to those of you that do not celebrate Christmas. I do not own Scooby-doo or Danny Phantom. Please R&R, I love the feedback.

(James Calloway's P.O.V.)

When I came into the barracks after dinner, there was a letter slid under the window by my bunk bed. A smile crossed my face as I realized that Rosemary had wrote me back. I grabbed the letter and put it in my pocket quickly, so that none of the other Cadets saw it. Then, when they went to shower and change I took a seat in one of the stalls and opened the letter.

Dear James, There is so much I could say, but I don't have a ton of time to write. If you can sneak away tonight, and meet me in the passages under our schools, we can talk. I'll be waiting from midnight till right before dawn. If you are serious about trying to end the fued come, if you are a chicken-blooded boy like your Grandfather then don't. See ya, Rayne

P.S. on the other side of this note is a map that will bring you to our meeting place, and the location of the door in your school.

I had to bite back a chuckle as I finished this letter, Rose was an interesting girl and there must be some story around why she wanted to meet. She probably just wants proof that I am not like the others, but sneaking out even for a little while was risk, especially if the Cornell found out that I was secretly meeting with a girl from Miss Wormwood's. "What choice do I have though?" I asked myself quietly. "If I don't show up there tonight, she will never talk to me again."

It was settled I was going to meet Rose tonight. I just hoped that I wouldn't get caught, because if I did I would be spending a lot of time in the hold. So I finally changed into my pajammas and got ready for "bed", more like wait for everyone to fall asleep.

(Rosemary Grimwood's P.O.V.)

After I returned from dropping off my letter, I got some confused looks from my friends. Between Millie being wheeled around in her chair by Kelle, and Spooky who's newest form was a black kitten. The rest of the ghouls were helping clear the table from dinner.

"Where did you stalk off to? It was your job to clear the dishes tonight Rose," Millie asked stopping what she was doing.

"What's wrong Mil? Manual labor too much for you?" I asked teasing her.

Millie's face set in a sort of rage, and she began wheeling herself towards me, her tail hanging from the end of the chair. Vanna walked in the room, and looked at me and Millie.

"Put the claws away, Snowbelle acts better than you too, and she's seven," Vanapira said pointing a finger at me, "And Rose, Mil isn't feeling so well, you know how she gets from not being submerged when school first starts."

"I know, but can't I tease her?" I asked.

"Not right now," Millie and Vanna said at the same time.

"I'm sorry for skipping out on dishes, I had a letter to deliver," I said, before I began to help Millie up the steps to run her a salt water bath. "I'm going to help Millie take a dip."

Once we made it upstairs to the bathroom, we had to wait for someone to finish in there. I knocked on the door. "Hey, who's in there? I have an imaptient mermaid who needs her salt water bath," I yelled.

When the door opened it was Sadie, giving Snowbelle her ice bath. "We are almost done, Miss Wormwood told me to give Snow her bath to cool her down, before bed." The centaur opened the door to reveal the small snow creature wrapped up in a towel. "Come on, Miss Snowbelle, it is your bed time." Sadie clip-cloped past me and Millie, with Snowbelle on her back. The small creature put her thumb in her mouth and waved at us, blinking her ice blue eyes, before Sadie rounded the corner.

"Now we have the bathroom all to ourselves," I stated wheeling Millie inside. It wasn't long, before I got Millie's bath ran, and we were just sitting there talking.

"What kind of mischeif are you up to?" Millie asked, her adventurous side showing again instead of the grouchy mergirl that she was downstairs.

"The kind that I don't want to invovle you in." I stuck out my tongue at her. "So where's my favorite kelp horse at?" I tried to change the subject.

"He's being slowly weened off of salt water, so that the change isn't so hard on him," Millie paused to sigh, "until then I am stuck with the chair."

"That's not so bad. Miss W changed the room assignments this year, who's your roommate this year?" I asked, my roommate hadn't changed, but the others had.

"Sadie, Miss W decided since Sadie doesn't need a bed, it would give me, Kelp, and even Sadie more room to move about," Millie explained.

"So, she really separated the twins?" I asked in shock, and Millie merely nodded. "So then what about April, Snowbelle, Kelleton, Spooky and Phoebe?"

Millie giggled. "Well, Snow is on her own so her room can be encased in ice. Kelle and April are together since they are both undead, and don't need as much sleep as the rest of us. That just leaves the sisters, Pheobe and Spooky, who well don't handle being separated very good," Millie explained. It was true that if you wanted to all-knowing opinion you asked Millie.

"Mil, I gotta go talk to Miss W. I'll be right back to help you out," I said, before shutting the door and heading back down to the kitchen. Everyone was down there except for Snowbelle and Millie. When I walked in everyone turned to look at me.

"I'll go keep Mil company," Sadie said, before leaving the room and going upstairs.

April floated over to me and gave me a hug. "I missed you, Rose," April's telepathic connection spoke into my mind.

"I missed you too, A. We will catch up later," I promised. The ghost girl floated through the floor after nodding shortly. Without her voice April didn't enjoy speaking, she probably going up to the attic to do her art.

"Hey Kelle." I waved to the skeleton, she looked a little upset about something. Vanna came to my side, and told me why everyone was in the kitchen.

"She's upset, because her and Sadie are being separated, while Spooky and Pheobe get to share a room," Vanapira explained.

The kitten Spooky weaved herself between my legs, purring loudly. "Come on Spook, give me a hug." The cat slowly became the shadow-like girl. She wrapped her arms around me and I did the same. The shape-shifter smiled at me, before whispering in my ear.

"I am sorry Kelle is upset, but I think what Miss W did, made sense." Spooky turned into a little red mouse and ran away with a squeak.

"Kelleton, I separated you and Sadie for her and you both, she'll have more room to move around. You won't be alone during the night. If you both are truly unhappy after four weeks of school, then we will talk about changing rooms. I'm sorry, but I think you should talk with April, her feelings are hurt," Miss Wormwood said, giving Kelleton a hug.

After everything calmed down, I finally got to speak to Miss W, or well she talked to me. "I can feel that you are up to something Rosemary. Are you going to tell me, or am I out of the loop?"

I explained to her what I was going to do, and as hard as it was for her to take, she knew that nothing she said would stop me. That unfortunately did not stop my cousin.

"Are you insane? He could use this as a trap and hurt you. There is no way that I am letting you do this! Your life is too precious to risk like this Rosemary," Vanapira said losing her cool airheaded composure.

"You know what Vanna, I could say the same thing to you! You are wasting yourself, over a proposal that you should have denied! You are giving up your life, your magic, and are fighting a force you are powerless against, but I am not allowed to worry about you! So stop worrying about me," I spat at her, losing my temper and causing her to start crying. Vanna ran out of the kitchen at the strike of twelve. "I have to go," I told Miss W, who nodded not saying a word.

As I made it to the secret door, I heard Miss Wormwood and sigh. "It will get better it's only the first day."

(James Calloway's P.O.V.)

By the time everyone was sound asleep it was almost twelve thirty, I really hoped that she would still be there waiting like her note said. It didn't take me long to find the hidden door, what took a long time was navigating these tunnels. They were like a labrynith. If I ever found Rose, it would be a miracle.

I came up to a clearing, and there she was drinking warm tea and sitting on a blanket on the floor. It was one in the morning and this girl looked like she couldn't be more awake. Rose smiled at me, when she saw me approach. "You kept me waiting long enough." She was being playfully sarcastic and I loved it. A blush flooded my cheeks, and she shook her head at that.

"Sorry, it is like a maze down here," I began to explain, but she put a hand up to silence me.

"I know, I was only kidding. I'm just glad you came to meet me," Rose responded.

"You didn't think I would?" I asked her, taking a seat on the bare floor.

"You know, you can sit on the blanket with me James," Rose said patting the space next to her. Reluctantly I got up, before sitting next to her.

"So what did you want to talk about?" I asked adjusting the collar of my top.

She laughed. "Are you nervous? Don't be. I wanted to tell you the history of our sister schools. Stuff that your Grandfather would never tell you. Other than that I don't know what else to do," Rose said looking into my eyes.

"We have to form an acceptance between the cadets and you girls. Show the Cornell that the way he feels about you guys is wrong and that is that," I said as simply as I could.

"It isn't that simple, James. You guys will never accept us for what we are," Rose said, looking away from him.

"What are you?" I asked wondering if she would answer me this time.

"Nothing, never mind. Let's talk about what we came here to discuss." She flawlessly changed the subject. I nodded knowing, that I needed her trust before I would get the answer. "Our school's were founded by best friends, Miss Wormwood's ancestor, and your ancestor , your great grandmother. She became a Calloway shortly after the schools were founded, and allowed your great grandfather to help her run the school. That is where our annual tradition of the volleyball game, and the masquerade ball on the eve of Halloween began. Although years ago they used to have the games, and the ball down here, soon this place became unused and ultimately forgotten. After your great grandmother and grandfather got divorced, things changed, the schools began feuding and it never stopped. When Headmistress Sycamore retired took over, the same could be said for your Grandfather," She paused to take a breath, "that is all I know."

"So my great grandparents split up, they alway told me she got sick and died at a young age..." I said in shock.

"The schools used to do so much more together, we used to be able to have friends. At least that is what told me, she was a student when everything went bad," she muttered.

"Speaking of Miss Wormwood, is she alright? When she left the school, she looked like she was ill," I asked, trying not to sound as worried as I was.

"She's alright, Ms.W gets like that sometimes. She doesn't handle negative feelings well and since this has been going on for so long, she only gets better for short periods of time," Rose explained.

I didn't understand exactly what she meant, but I wasn't going to question her any further. "So I guess, we should both be getting back," I trailed off, when Rose leaned against me with a yawn.

"I'm not going back there tonight," She said definitely.

"Why not?" I asked.

"Me and my cousin got into it, before I came down here. She's my roommate so, I'm not going back," Rosemary said absently.

"You're just going to stay here? By yourself?" I asked, hoping she was going to say no.

"Yes, I'm staying here. There is nothing down here that is going to hurt me." She sounded confident. "I'm not worried."

"Alright," I responded. I didn't care that she wasn't worried, I was and there was no way that I would leave her down here alone. "I'm not leaving you."

Rosemary nodded, but I could tell that she was slowly falling asleep. She was asleep on my shoulder, and I was determined to stay awake until she woke up in the morning. It wasn't long, before everything around me went black.

I woke up, when my head slammed into the wall that me and Rose were leaned up against. A smile crossed my face as I noticed that I was holding Rosemary in my arms. That moment only lasted a second, because I had no idea what time it was, or how long we had slept. When I sat up, I jostled Rose and she woke up blinking her eyes sleepily. She smiled at me, for a moment before she yawned, stretched and got up.

After staring at my wrist for a moment, I realized that I had taken my watch off back at my school. "Uhhh Rose, do you know what time it is?"

"If I had to guess, I would say 8 a.m. or 9 a.m. at the latest," She paused for a moment to look at him, "I don't know the military time." When my eyes widdened, a look of concern crossed her face. "What did I say?"

"Role call is at 7 a.m. sharp, I'll be thrown in the hold for missing it," I tried not to sound scared, but the thought of being shut in a dark room for a number of days worried him, because the Cornell was known for forgetting to feed the boys that were on punishment. "I-uh have to go, Rosie." I turned away and started to try and find my way back to the school, when Rosemary grabbed my wrist.

"I have something for you," She stated, slipping a small stone into my hand. "Place this where your letters are, and that is how we can communicate."

"What do you mean? How does this-" I tried to ask, but she kissed me to shut me up.

"Please, don't question you'll understand soon." Her face was almost as red as an apple, and her breathing was slowly becoming uneven. "Is there anything I can do to keep you from the hold?" Her voice came out as sincere for the first time, and it was clear to me that she actually was beginning to have feelings for me.

I shook my head in defeat, before heading back through the tunnels to getting closer to the darkness and solidarity of the hold.

As soon as I located the other cadets, I ended up finding my grandfather as well. He made sure to make an example of me, when he screamed at me about missing role call. If any of them asked what he was screaming at me about, I had no idea his piercing voice was like a blurr in my mind, until he grabbed my wrist and dragged me towards the hold. The Cornell opened the thick wooden door and shoved me in roughly.

"I warned you James, just because you are my grandson doesn't mean you will get special treatment. Let this be a lesson to all of you, follow my rules and stay away from those vile girls and you won't be in the hold like my gradnson." He had all of the cadets hanging on his every word, maybe it was because he was angry or maybe he was eloquent in some way, but what he said wasn't true in the slightest.

"They aren't vile and they never did anything wrong!" I exclaimed, the thick door was slammed in my face and I was left in near darkness, the only light that there was came from a small slot near the top of the door and the light that seeped in the bottom of the door.

My granfather laughed at me, and what I said to him. "They put you here."

(Rosemary's P.O.V.)

I watched him go with a sad look on my face, I knew that James was going to get into a lot of trouble and that on some level it was my fault. It was a bad idea to bring him down here, no one could even guess what the Cornell was going to do to him, and I knew that I had to stop him. That was why I began to run back to my school and barge into my room to change, only to find Vanna sitting on her bed waiting for me. When she looked at me, she zipped her lips and then proceeded to leave the room. I called to her, "Vanna, why aren't you in class?"

"Miss Wormwood is ill, you would know that if you were here, and decided we were taking the day off," Vanna responded curtly, before continuing down to the kitchen.

She was mad that much was obvious, but I had a bigger fish to fry and I couldn't believe that I was actually thinking about inflitrating the Calloway's school. If Vanna found out about this she'd kill me, for even thinking about this. That's why there was something that I need to do, before putting on my cloat and waiting for the cover of the night. I took a seat on the edge of the bed, and wrote James a letter about what I was going to do if I didn't hear back from him in a day or two.

James, I know you are in the hold, but if you are in there for longer than two days, I'm coming to bust you out. This is my fault, I'm the one that deserves to be in there not you, Rose

As the letter was finished it was snatched out of my hands by Savanna. As she read the letter she seemed to get angrier than she already was. I thought she was going to smack me, but she didn't only stare at me in disapproval.

"Are you crazy? Or do you have a death wish? Because I can kill you if that is what you want! I'm not sure if this is, because of the crush you have on that cadet, or if you've just lost your mind! There is no way that I am letting you do this!" Vanna screamed for a good five minutes, before she was calm enough for me to steal the letter back from her and press it to the message stone to send it to James.

"I'm crazy?" I paused to laugh. "You don't even want to start with my Savanna! I'm trying to change our situation, so maybe Snowbelle, Spooky and Phoebe won't have to come to school in fear of the boys next door, but whatever, I guess you can't understand what's going on with me, because my hand isn't promised to a vampire." When that last part escaped my lips I knew I went too far, but there was no taking that back.

That was when Vanna started a chant, pausing only to say, "Your magic is stronger than mine Mojo, but you're going to forget this little idea of yours." She continued her chant until she ended it by knocking my out with a wave of her hand.

(Narative)

When Rosemary came to, she didn't remember anything that happened between her and James, it was like it never happened. Vanapira grabbed the small stone off of the bed and took it. Vanna had too keep everything away from her that would jog her memory, if she remembered what happened and was Vanna did, she was be furious, and so would Ms.W.

Meanwhile James sat in the dark of the hold and wondered how long it would be until they would let him out. He felt the letter in his pocket, but there wasn't a lot he could do about it because one it was dark and two he did not have anything to write a response with. "I'm sorry Rose," he muttered to himself.

A week passed and things were getting better for Rose and Savanna, but that was mostly because Rose did not remember that she was angry with her cousin. Vanna met Dracula on the edge of Wormwood's property to talk to her love.

"If she isn't mad at you anymore why worry about it?" Dracula asked.

"Because it isn't her Dracky, it's the spell I put on her." Savanna's face warped into a frown.

"Then undo it and deal with the consequences," he responded sounding firm.

Little did she know that Rose was working on undoing the spell herself. "I know there was something I was going to do, but I can't remember what it was." She was pacing in her room, when she found the letter that she wrote to James. When she read her letter it brought everything back to her, and then she knew what she was going to do. "James, oh my god." She began to search frantically for a response, but there wasn't one and that could only mean one thing. "He's still in the hold."

By the time Savanna came back into the school it was dark outside and Rose was dressed to go bust James out of his solitude. It didn't take long for Savanna to realize something was up with her cousin. "Where you going Rose?" Rose just put up a hand up and walked out of the room. "Hold up, tell me where you are going!"

"You knocked me out! Took my memories, you don't know what I could do to you Vanna, get out of my way." Rose could change her cousins path if she wanted, but she wasn't evil.

"You are going to get yourself killed, Rose! If the Cornell catches you will be condemned as a witch. I can't let you risk yourself over that boy, who means nothing-" Savanna stopped cold when she realized, what she had just said.

"He's my friend, and that means everything to me. What you just said proves that you have the same prejudce against them as they do to us. It's not right, no matter how you paint the picture," Rose said, before grabbing what she needed and leaving the room.

She began casting a spell that would make anyone that had seen her remember it like a dream, besides James. Rose had to make sure that he was okay, that mattered to her more than her secret. This was a rescue, no matter what her cousin or her friends thought about it.

The gate flung open at her command and the wind seemed to carry her forwards. Rosemary pushed the door open and searched for where James was being kept. She gave the door a tentative knock. "James?" She called slipping the door open.

He was crumpled against the wall and squinted in the light, when she approached him, he flinched away from her touch.

"James, come on. We have to get out of here," Rose said bringing him from whatever dream he was in. "Get up."

He finally looked at her. "Rosie, what are you doing here?" He asked finally getting up, towering over her slightly.

"Saving you, now come on." She offered him her hand, before leading him to the entrance to the tunnels.

"You're going to get into trouble Rose." James tried to fight her, but he was weakened from the minimal amounts of food he had gotten during the week.

"I don't care. I would've been here earlier, but that is a long story. Just let me, help you. You look like hell." She ruffled his hair and then continued to lead him to the living quarters hidden within the underground tunnels.
