A/N: Hello! Okay, so I'm trying to make Gohan's gift as genuine as I can think of, and it just happens to be in the form of jewelry. This beginning is going to be really weird, and I don't know if it's even possible to do. Also, I'm not going to say who, but I'd just like to say that I don't really give a rat's ass about Hercule and his millions, because we all know that it should be Gohan's…Okay? Please review! I love them!
Gohan woke up that Saturday morning stiff and confused. Why am at Capsule Corp? And why am I asleep at my desk? Oh…I remember now…I'm making Videl's Christmas present Gohan remembered, inspecting his designs for her necklace. He had decided the previous night that the string would be made out of a black leather cord. However, the stone in the middle of the chandelier piece wasn't that easy. He had decided to cut a 'V' into it, where another stone would go, but he didn't know what yet. Not sapphire…Sapphire wouldn't match her eyes quite right…But not a teal either…almost like a mix of both…Eureka! Gohan mentally exclaimed, jumping up from his chair, bulleting out of the room and to Bulma's office.
Bulma was under a car, repairing it, and when Gohan had slammed the door open, she jumped and hit her head. She rolled out from under the car, glaring at Gohan.
"Yes?" Bulma asked venomously.
"Oh, I'm sorry. Are you okay?" Gohan asked, his eyes shining with concern.
"I'm fine, Gohan. What do you want?" Bulma sighed.
"Did you get that color extracting pen ready, yet?" Gohan asked, bouncing with excitement.
"You mean the pen that you touch to an object, it scans the color, and then reciprocates it?" Bulma clarified. Gohan nodded his head eagerly, like a puppy. "Yeah, I finished that a few weeks ago…why?"
"Can I borrow it…please?" Gohan asked, pulling out his best puppy dog eyes. Bulma broke instantly.
"Yes…just don't break it," Bulma instructed as she grabbed the pen from a nearby drawer, handing it to Gohan.
"Great! Thanks, Bulma! Oh, and one question…instead of using it from coloring purposes, can I like, code the color into a computer?" Gohan wondered.
"Yeah, you can do that, just attach this USB attachment to the end, and you're all good," Bulma explained, handing him a small attachment. Gohan put it on the end of the pen immediately, proceeding to run out the door yelling, "Thanks, Bulma!"
Gohan almost broke the door pulling it so hard, then slamming it even harder. He earned a few weird looks from the students who had decided to work on their projects. But he wasn't paying attention to them, he had bigger and better things to worry about. First thing's first…I need to find a picture of the 'Gold Fighter' Gohan planned, searching his super hero alter ego. He found hundreds of pictures, all of them mostly from the same event, just ranging in quality. He found the highest quality picture and printed it out. He waited for the ink to completely dry before he scanned his eyes in the picture with the special pen. Not exactly teal, but not sapphire either Gohan thought, plugging the pen into the computer, scanning the color into the computer.
One down, one to go…what thing have I seen that has a sapphire blue color? Gohan thought. He sat there…thinking…for a good six minutes, and he had a light bulb moment. Vegeta's spandex! Hundreds of his old ones are in the regeneration room, because they're all ruined! It's perfect! Gohan thought, jumping from his chair yet again and rocketing to the regeneration tanks. Not to his surprise, Vegeta was in the tanks, healing from his training in the gravity room. He walked over to the closet in the corner, and carefully opened one of its doors to reveal shelves upon shelves of Vegeta's worn out and torn suits. I don't need a full one Gohan thought, before ripping off a piece of the closest one to him. He rushed back to the lab and scanned the suit- and then he promptly threw it away…he didn't need stuff that was on Vegeta lying around.
The next few hours were tricky. Gohan had to not only make the colors into a liquid form, but he also had to blend them perfectly. He decided to make few crayons on a 3-D printer, using both of the colors. Then, he melted them in two separate pots, proceeding to blend and stir them until the color looked nearly identical to Videl's eye color- he used both his memory and the internet as a reference. The next two parts, however, were going to be the toughest. Using the last bit of chandelier, he had to inject his perfect blue into it, fully engulfing it's crystal shine, turning it into the perfect hue of blue, just like Videl's eyes. After accomplishing that, he had to take his original tear drop chandelier piece, and cut a 'V' into it.
After that tedious process, Gohan cut the blue piece into a 'V', so that it would fit into the tear drop. The process was wearing Gohan down, but it needed to be done. After an hour or so, that was done. He only had two more things to do after that- attach the blue 'V' to the white tear drop, and put the black leather cord on it. He place the blue 'V' in, and very, very carefully soldered them in place. Then, through a small hole he made at the top of the stone, he laced the black leather cord through it. He sighed in content, leaning back in his chair- his work was done. It was hard work, but it was absolutely beautiful, he was sure Videl would like it. He grabbed a small box from one of his desk drawers, and carefully placed the necklace into it. He wrapped it in the comics section of the newspaper, and went to his room- where he proceeded to sleep for the rest of the day and night.
Gohan was jumping with anticipation all week, but when Thursday, Christmas Eve, actually came, he was more nervous than he had ever been. What if she doesn't like it? She doesn't necessarily like jewelry… Gohan thought. But then he remembered Erasa's words of advice: As long as it's from you, she'll be happy. I sure do hope she's right.
Gohan sat in nervousness all day, and a few times he involuntarily went Super Saiyan. Finally, around five, Gohan jumped off the couch and went into his room to change. He came out with a long sleeved black button up, and white tie, with his blue jeans- along with his best pair of shoes, his only pair of Converse. He kissed his mother on the cheek, and promised to be home before midnight. He took Videl's necklace into his hand, and flew off to Erasa's house.
Gohan actually didn't know where Erasa's house was, but he sensed all three of his friends' ki, and assumed he was at the right house. He knocked on the door, and he heard scurrying feet inside. Erasa opened the door.
"Hi, Gohan! Come on in!" Erasa said with a bubbly voice, like always. He walked in, and although it wasn't the biggest house he'd seen, it was still big. It had a second story, with a decent sized kitchen, and a huge living room and a dining room off to the side. Gohan saw Sharpener and Videl sitting on the couch, watching A Christmas Story.
"Come on, we'll join them in a sec. First you've gotta' meet my parents," Erasa said, steering Gohan into the kitchen. He saw a woman with blonde shoulder length hair, and a man tall man with brown hair- both of them cooking some sort of food.
"Mom, Dad, this is Gohan. He's the last one," Erasa said, gaining her parent's attention. They walked up to Gohan and Erasa, and they both shook Gohan's hand.
"Hi, I'm Gohan. It's a pleasure to meet you," Gohan said, letting go of Erasa's father's hand.
"Hello, I'm Bill, and this is my wife, Claire," Erasa's father said. Claire was about as tall as Erasa, leaving her at around 5'3", while her dad, still shorter than Gohan, was around 5'10".
"Okay, now you know each other. Come on, Gohan, let's go watch the movie," Erasa said, causing the short meet and greet to end. She dragged him into the living room, where Sharpener and Videl were talking, the movie on a commercial break.
"Guys, Gohan's here," Erasa aid, causing Videl and Sharpener to look up. Sharpener was dressed similarly to Gohan, with a long-sleeved blue button up, a black tie, and a pair cargo pants. Gohan was surprised, however, to see Videl wearing a knee length dress. It wasn't fun or colorful like Erasa's, but a black color that complimented her raven hair. Gohan didn't mean to, but his jaw slightly slackened at the sight of her. Next to him, Erasa pushed his jaw back into place- snapping him back into reality. He heard Videl giggling.
"Hey, Gohan. What's up?" Sharpener asked, trying to lift the awkward silence.
"Oh, not much. Just working on some personal projects," Gohan said, suddenly remembering the box in his hand. "Say, Erasa, where's the bathroom?"
"Up the stairs, first door on the left," Erasa instructed.
"Thanks," Gohan said, running towards the stairs. Once he was in the bathroom, he hid his present inside s drawer. I know it's a Secret Santa, but I need her to know it's from me Gohan thought, thinking that it was just going to add to the surprise. He flushed the toilet for an added effect, and then went back down stairs, where the movie was back on. The group continued to watch the movie until Erasa's mom called from the dining room, "Dinner!" Gohan walked behind everybody, following his three friends into the dining room.
Once everybody was settled, food on their plates, Erasa's dad said, "Okay, now, on holidays, we have a tradition. Depending on which holiday it is, you have to say something. For Christmas, we say what the best part of our year was. And because we're only doing this with you guys once, we're going to do it a day early. So, I'll start. The best part of my year was getting a promotion."
"The best part of my year was my birthday…boy was that fun," Claire said from Bill's left.
"The best part of my year was being named MVP on the baseball team," Sharpener said, smiling.
"The best part of my year is today, because for the first time since ever, I got Videl to wear a dress," Erasa explained, crossing her arms, looking satisfied. Everyone laughed.
"I don't know…going to Capsule Corp for a week was pretty fun, I learned a lot," Videl recalled, remembering more of what she learned about Gohan, rather than science. Lastly, it was Gohan's turn. He took a moment to think before he opened his mouth.
"The best part of my year was my mother convincing me to go to Orange Star High School…because without that, I wouldn't be able to sit here and call any of you, my friend," Gohan said eloquently. The table was in shock, especially Erasa's parents, never hearing a teenager speak that beautifully before. Then, the slow clap started…and pretty soon the table was applauding him. Gohan blushed, but he waved them off. Once their shock wore off, they ate. For once in his life, Gohan tried very hard to control his eating speed. He managed to finish just before anyone else, but only by a minute or two. Once they were done with dinner, Erasa's parents went to wash the dishes- an action that Gohan was willing to help with, but they told him to go be with his friends. Twenty minutes later, the two walked out into the living room, where the four were watching the credits roll at the end of A Christmas Story.
"Okay, you four. Dessert is on the table is you'd like some. We're going to bed now, have fun," Claire said, dragging her husband up the stairs, who was suspiciously glaring at both Sharpener and Gohan, but more towards Sharpener. Once they were up the stairs, Gohan said, "Wow, my mom would never do that."
"Do what?" Erasa asked, confused.
"Leave me alone with my friends, while we're having a party," Gohan explained, shocked.
"It shows that they trust me," Erasa said simply.
"I guess so," Gohan nodded.
"So does anybody want anything to drink? No alcohol of course," Erasa offered.
The next few hours were quite entertaining. The four played a few party games, laughing and just having a good time in general. However, everything changed when Erasa had stopped their competitive Yo Mama contest.
"Okay guys, it's time to do the Secret Santa now. Let me get the presents from under the tree," Erasa said, scooting from her position on the floor to the Christmas tree. She grabbed three presents and stood up.
"Okay, this one's for Sharpie," Erasa said, walking his gift to him. "Ooh, this one's for me," Erasa announced, placing her present on the coffee table. "And this one is for Gohan," Erasa said, walking up to Gohan. Erasa gave him his present, but then did a quick mental calculation.
"Wait! Videl didn't get one! Who decided to be an ass, and not get her one?" Erasa halted, staring at Gohan out of the corner of her eye. Abruptly, Gohan stood up and said, "Excuse me, I have to go to the bathroom…all that root beer is getting to me." He briskly walked from the living room, back up the stairs, and into the bathroom. He opened the drawer, and pulled Videl's gift out. Good, the wrapping is still good Gohan thought, thanking Kami, or rather, Dende. He, once again, flushed the toilet for added effect, and walked out of the bathroom. As he started down the stairs, he saw Videl waiting at the bottom, leaning on the adjacent wall. Gohan gulped.
"Hey, Videl. What you doin'" Gohan asked, trying not to look nervous.
"Oh, you were just acting really weird and suspicious, so I'd thought I'd see what was up," Videl said, inspecting her finger nail. Gohan was down the stairs by now. He was in front of Videl.
"Nope, I just had to use the restroom," Gohan said, smiling weakly.
"Oh," Videl said, looking down, sad. Now or never Gohan thought, mentally bracing himself.
"Say…while I was in the bathroom…I was looking around…and I think I found something really interesting," Gohan said, making up a story for his bathroom adventure.
"Really? What'd you find?" Videl asked, trying to sound interested. From behind his back, Gohan pulled out her present. Her eyes got very big.
"Now, I know it's supposed to be Secret Santa…but I think in this one case, I'm above the law," Gohan said, handing her the box wrapped in newspaper. She was speechless, and she hadn't even opened the box yet.
"Gohan, you shouldn't have," Videl gasped.
"Well too bad. Because 1) Erasa would've kicked my ass if I didn't get you anything and 2) I would've anyway, even if it wasn't for Secret Santa. Now, open it! Come on," Gohan explained, smiling profusely.
"Alright, alright," Videl caved, carefully pulling the newspaper away from the package. She was slightly confused when she came to the box, but she quickly figured it out.
"Gohan… You really shouldn't have," Videl said, sighing.
"Just open it," Gohan urged. Sighing in defeat, she carefully pulled the top off of the box. Pulling away the small amount of tissue paper inside the box, she gasped, nearly dropping the box. She didn't say anything, and her face was one of utter surprise. They stood there for a good minute before Gohan started to worry.
"Is it really that bad?" Gohan asked, ashamed. That shocked Videl out of her stupor.
"Bad?! Gohan, it's beautiful! It's…it's not…thank you!" Videl said, flinging her arms around his neck, hugging him tightly. They stayed like that for a moment, before Videl unlatched herself from Gohan, looking back down at the necklace again.
"Where did you even find this?" Videl asked, investigating the stone better.
"Funny story, actually…I made it," Gohan answered, bracing himself for her reaction.
"You…you made it?! No way! I don't believe it! How?" Videl asked, disbelievingly.
"Well, the white part is actually a chandelier crystal from one that Vegeta broke a few weeks ago. Then…well the blue stone is a bit harder to explain. Basically I scanned my super eye color, and Vegeta's spandex color, and then mixed them into the stone. I cut it into the 'V', and then soldered them together. I had no idea what to do for the cord, so I just guessed," Gohan explained, giving her the short version.
"That's…that's incredible, Gohan. Really…thank you," Videl said, amazed by Gohan's skills.
"Do you…do you want me to put it on you?" Gohan asked tentatively.
"Yeah…that'd be great," Videl said, smiling, handing the necklace to Gohan, turning around so that Gohan could put it on properly. He unclasped the necklace's tie, and with shaking hands, he laced it around Videl's neck, clasping it together again once it was around her neck. Right at that moment, a huge flash went off in front of them. Gohan looked up to see Erasa with a camera in her hands, smiling as wide as her mouth would allow. Sharpener, standing next to her, leaned over to whisper something in her ear. She started jumping up and down in glee, before saying, "Well, come on you two, you know the tradition."
"What?" Videl asked, confused. Sharpener pointed above their heads. Both Gohan and Videl looked up to see a bundle of mistletoe. Gohan was in shock, and he was trying his hardest not to faint.
"Come on now," Sharpener taunted. Instead of retorting back, Videl turned around, facing Gohan. At that moment, Gohan suddenly remembered what Erasa had said the Friday before: she likes you. As in 'I want to kiss this boy senseless' likes you! Gohan visibly gulped.
He didn't remember how it happened, but one second he was about to faint, and the next minute he was kissing Videl. Unlike most first kisses, it wasn't awkward, or weird. It was like it was supposed to happen. Their lips were moving in sync, and Gohan honestly couldn't keep a single thought. Videl's arms were hanging loosely around Gohan's neck, lightly pulling at the bottom of his hair. Gohan was leaning down, his hands barely touching he hips. Their eyes were closed. They stayed like that, lips moving, for only a few minutes, but at the time, Gohan had rationalized that it was eternity.
When they broke apart, Gohan removed his hands from her hips, and she removed her hands from his neck. They looked into each other's eyes, and they both smiled. They only held the smile for a few seconds, because they broke into a fit of giggles. They were laughing uncontrollably. It wasn't because it was bad, or anything or that sort. It was because, in that moment, they were truly happy…and it was the happiest either of them had been in a long time.
I DID IT! I've been waiting to write that scene since I FIRST started this story back in July…Of course it isn't over, but this was without a doubt, one of MY most highly anticipated chapters! And I'm just so giddy right now! After 27chapters, 28 including this one, I FINALLY GOT THEM TO KISS! I did it! I feel so accomplished! So please, PLEASE, leave a review!
