After Mark's death, the group seemed to be settling down. Mary and Remus were back together and very happy, but the both of them had agreed to take things slowly as there was a lot they needed to talk about and get through together. Peter had broken up with his girlfriend, feeling that he longer had time for her as he was now working as a double agent, of course his friends remained unaware. Marlene and Sirius were still carrying on the way they were in their relationship but when Marlene stated that she needed more than just words to show that their relationship meant something, Sirius gave her a key to his flat. Alice and Frank were mainly busy at the Auror office, still having to try and catch Death Eaters but they had no luck so far.

Dumbledore had sent Lily and James on yet another mission with Alice and Frank to accompany them. This mission in particular was much like their mission to China all those months ago to retrieve the ancient scrolls which held the secrets to eternal life. This time their mission was to track down a man called Tiberius, a man who claimed to have a potion which prolonged life. This potion was rumoured not to make you immortal but as long as it was taken on the longest day of summer every five years, it would prolong your life expectancy for a short while. Dumbledore had said that if this potion actually existed, Voldemort would want to track down the maker in order to have the potion made for himself, until Voldemort could find another way to make himself immortal.

During their mission, they had once again come face to face with Lord Voldemort. As expected, Voldemort offered them a position in his forces or he would kill them all. The fury that had spread across his face when once again, all four of them refused to join the Dark Lord. As a duel broke out, the four of them barely managed to escape with their lives. Lily had been hit in her lower stomach and had to be rushed to St Mungo's for tests.

Dumbledore then sent Moody and the Prewett brothers to track down Tiberius whilst James and Lily awaited for her test results. The both of them fearing the worst. Before the tests had been carried out, the healers had told Lily that there was a chance that she could never have children as to where the curse had hit her. Although James and Lily had never discussed if they wanted children or not, they thought that the option was there if they chose to take it one day in the future.

Lily looked over at James, a look of concern on her face. James looked back at his wife and smiled weakly, as if trying to reassure her that everything would be fine.

"James, what if that curse has made me infertile?" asked Lily in a loud whisper.

James took the glasses off his nose and wiped them clean with his shirt, he exhaled heavily as he put them back on before moving to sit on the bed beside his wife.

"Even if we can't have children, I will still love you." he promised.

Lily continued to stare into his hazel eyes and knew he was telling the truth.

"But I wouldn't be able to give you a child," she stated.

James wrapped his arms around her and held her close.

"Lily, I didn't pester you for six years and to have finally got you to give you up now," James pointed out.

"But what if I were unable to get pregnant, what if one day you decided that I wasn't enough?" she asked in a frightened tone.

James looked down into her eyes, a million questions that she needed answering swimming in them.

"You will always be enough for me, I would love you if you gave me a million children and I would still love you if you couldn't give me any. I love you and I always will," whispered James.

She kissed him then, her fear going away as he responded by kissing her gently. If this was the way she needed to be sure that he would still love her, if words weren't enough for her, he would gladly show her that he meant it. Lily wrapped her arms around his neck to hold him to her as tight as she could without hurting him, James wrapped one arm around her middle, his free hand cupping her face to deepen their kiss.

They were interrupted when the healer came back with the results. The look on the healer's face was unreadable. James took hold of Lily's hand and held it tightly, trying to let her know that he was there for her whatever the results were.

"Mrs Potter, I have your results back." said the healer.

Lily looked at the healer as if her life depended on her.

"And how bad is it?" asked Lily, her heart thumping away in fear.

"The damage that the curse did to your uterus can't be reversed, the curse had slightly changed the shape of your uterus so there is a high chance that if you do get pregnant you'll miscarry, the embryo won't attached into the left side of the lining." said the healer apologetically.

Lily's heart dropped and she could fill her eyes filling up with tears, but she fought them back. The healer wasn't yet finished.

"But the good news is that should you and Mr Potter decide to try for a child and you do fall pregnant, there are potions that you can take which will ensure that when the embryo attaches at six weeks, it will attach to the ride side of uterus where the lining is thicker than the left. But the downside of these potions are that they can only be used a certain amount of times. They cannot be used to create a big family for someone, they are designed to help people in your case to have one, two or maybe three children if you're lucky." explained the healer.

Lily nodded her understanding of what the healer said, there was still a chance for them to have a baby in the future but this was something that she and James would have to talk about soon. The healer left and James and Lily decided to go home. Lily mostly wanted to talk about the possibility of children now that they had gotten her test results back.

When they arrived home, Lily was glad that everyone else was in bed. It would give them the chance to talk privately without Mary or Remus overhearing. Lily sat in the living room whilst James made them both a cup of tea. When James entered the room, he placed the two mugs on the coffee table and sat down next to her.

"So what do you think?" asked Lily.

James scratched his forehead and returned his gaze back to Lily.

"I'm glad we still have a chance and I'm okay with trying if you're willing to take that potion. If you choose that you don't want a baby than I'll be happy too. I'll be happy either way, as long as I have you Lily. I want to make you happy, and if having a child will make you happy than I'll gladly play my part in that. But I want this to be your decision because you're the one who has to take that potion." explained James.

Lily nodded her head as she took in James's feelings on the subject. Truth be told, she was already happy as she was and she didn't feel like anything had to change right now. But then she pictured in her head her own baby. A baby boy with jet black hair like his father, tall and skinny and talented at Quidditch. A little girl with long red hair like her, made a prefect when she attended Hogwarts. Just the thought of having children with James made her heart beat in excitement. She wanted a family with him.

After a few minutes of silence, she turned back to face James. A huge smile on her face. James returned her smile, knowing that she had already made her decision.

"I'd like to have a baby with you," Lily smiled.

James tucked her hair over her shoulder before affectionately stroking her cheek.

"I'd like that too, do you want to try now?" he asked eagerly with a wink.

Lily rolled her eyes, she knew that James would like that part of starting a family.

"Maybe tomorrow, tonight I'm exhausted and just want to sleep." said Lily.

James nodded and kissed her forehead.

"Tomorrow it is," he agreed.

A/N: The next chapter will be the last one but I'm also going to include an epilogue after. I've also started writing another Lily and James fiction called The Stag and The Doe, so please check that one out as well :)
