Jealousy is both reasonable and belongs to reasonable men, while envy is base and belongs to the base, for the one makes himself get good things by jealousy, while the other does not allow his neighbour to have them through envy.-Aristotle
Amber awoke the next morning with a smile instantly appeared on her face. She sat up and looked over next to her and sighed. No Spencer sleeping sound next to her, causing her smile faded fast. Amber pushed back the covers, put her legs over the bed and stood up. She felt weird, she felt happy. It was an odd feeling to her, she never thought she would be happy. Everytime she was, it was yanked from underneath her. And when it was, she always felt like she needed to be more guarded than the last time it happened. Although, she had to admit, that when she first met Spencer, she felt there was just something there. She let him into her life so fast that the world didn't even notice, or take note that she was happy. But still, there was this worry, this ache, that everything would be taken away from her in a blink of an eye.
Amber quickly got ready for her class, she threw on some clothes, quickly put on some makeup and pulled her hair into a messy bun. She skurried out of the apartment, making sure to lock the door before she headed down the stairs. Amber walked down the street to the college, her feet felt so heavy, like she was walking through four feet of snow or she was sinking in quicksand. She couldn't stop thinking that something could go wrong. After a twenty minute walk, Amber entered the building, she got to her class, taking a seat in the far back corner like she always did. She was about ten minutes early, but she was the only one there. She sat there a moment and enjoyed the silence. Just then another student walked in, she tried so desperately to not roll her eyes at Luke.
Luke made his way down the aisle in front of her and sat down in the seat right in front of her. He set his expensive leather messenger bag down on the floor. He pulled out the chair and sat down. He turned in his seat to face Amber.
" Hi there beautiful," he said with his million dollar smile.
Amber didn't hold back her eye roll, she made sure he saw. "Luke," She groaned, tired of his constant attempts to get her realize that Spencer wasn't for her.
" Are you still with that loser?" He asked.
"Yes," she cheerfully said then held out her left hand for him to see. "We are engaged."
Luke had a sour look on his face. His lips pursed together, he balled his hands into tight fists and his nostrils flared. "I don't believe this..." he muttered under his breath.
"Excuse me?" Amber asked.
"Nothing, I have to go." He spat as he snached up his bag, shot up out of his chair and walked out of the room. He bumped into other students as he stormed out of the room, but he didn't seem to care.
That was weird...Amber thought to herself. Luke was always acting weird around her. She could never really pin point his emotions or how he really acted because he acted differently all the time.
After her class, Amber headed home. She had this faint feeling in her stomach that something was about to go wrong. Luke was acting really weird, and she knew he had a bit of a crush on her. She also knew that because of that, he wasn't very fond of Spencer. Amber entered the apartment, it was quiet and empty, like always. She set her bag down next to the door and slipped her shoes off. She walked over to the couch and plopped down on it. Her feet were killing her, she had been working and going to school. And never seeing Spencer made it worse.
There was a muffled knock on the door, Amber sighed to herself and stood up. She walked over to the door and opened it. It was Luke.
"Luke, what do you want?" Amber asked coldly.
" I wanted to apologize for before, and to show you how how happy I am for you." Luke said.
"Really," Amber said in shock.
"Yes, follow me."
Amber had a confused expression on her face. "Wait, why?" She asked as Luke headed towards the steps.
"Because, I got you an engagement gift." Luke explained.
"Why is it outside?"
Luke sighed. "Do you want your gift or not, A."
"No,No, No...I want it." She said hastily as she shut the door behind her. She followed Luke down the stairs, through the lobby to the street.
"Here it is," he said as he had his arms out next to him, he looked as if he was at a show case, presenting prizes. Behind him was a car, an Audi R8. Amber's jaw dropped.
"This!" She squealed. " this is my gift!" Luke nodded his head as he put his hands in his pocket. She ran up to him and hugged him. "Thank you." She whispered in his ear.
"You're welcome," he whispered back as he placed a hand on her back. Moments later, Amber pulled away from him and smiled at him. Luke reached into his back pocket and pulled out the keys. "Here," he said as he handed them to Amber. Amber took them from him and let out another little squeal.
" I can not thank you enough," Amber said.
"I think you can," Luke said with a smirk.
"How so?" Amber asked.
"Let's go get some coffee," Luke offered.
Amber smirked at him then said," alright, fair enough."
