Duncan's P.O.V.

"You know the plan?" I asked her. She nodded, smiling, before kissing me on the cheek.

"I do."

"I'll see you soon, promise you'll make it through?" I asked her.

"I promise." Gwen smiled. Even though our clothes were now rags and we were covered in dirt and blood, she was still as pretty as when I first met her. Even her hair, once black with blue highlights, held a dark reddish-brown color in it instead. Blood. I could only imagine what I looked like.

I looked back it her one last time before hopping over the car that had long since broken down. I raised the ax and cut it into the people in front of me. No, not people. Not anymore. Zombies. Walkers. The Undead. Whatever you want to call them. Gwen and I had been surviving for months now... I think. You lose track of time. Once we had a large group and now almost all of them had either died, separated from us, or just plainly disappeared. Now it was just me and Gwen.

After what seemed like hours, I made it to the other side. I saw the boats. We had hit jackpot. We found two boats that worked. And we would go separately. Our supplies would take time to be transferred and someone needed to watch the boats so that no one stole them.

"Duncan!" I heard her scream. I whipped my head around to see her trapped on top of a car. Her own weapon, a screwdriver, had been tossed on the ground farther away. The zombies reached up to her.

I started running towards her, but I was blocked. "Shit!"

"Just go!" She yelled at me, kicking away one by it's head.

"But..." I swiped at one that got too close.

"I can manage." She gave me a small smile.

I stumbled back. I couldn't just leave her, but I had to. We had made an agreement long ago that even though we loved each other, if the time ever came, the other should just go. One of us had to survive and I had no way of helping her.

I felt tears well up as started up the boat. I was attracting walkers, but I would be gone far before they could get to me. The boat would get me somewhere and I had enough supplies to survive a long while, longer than if Gwen had come with.

I grit my teeth and forced myself not to look back.

The sky was dark and I lay on my back, staring up at the bright sky. I whispered to her. I knew she could hear me, I could feel it. "Do you hear me? I'm talking to you. Across the water... Across the deep, blue ocean. Under the open sky. Baby, I tried."

Far away, I could hear her reply. "Boy, I hear you in my dreams. I feel your whisper across the sea. I keep you with me in my heart. You make it easier when life gets hard."

I smiled, tired out of my mind. But I've been tired for months now. I whispered again and knew she was whispering to me too. "I'm lucky I'm in love with my best friend. Lucky to have been where I have been. Lucky to be coming home again."

I stayed silent for a little while, just listening to the waves. I was thinking. Before all of this Gwen and I were nothing more than friends. Really, we were hardly acquaintances, even though many people considered us to be in the same group of people. Punks. Then, the apocalypse came and my girlfriend, Courtney... how long ago she seemed, but anyway, she was one of the first to go. Gwen comforted me since it was the same for her boyfriend. And we just became inseparable since then.

"They don't know how long it takes. Waiting for a love like this." She had to be saying it too. "Every time we goodbye. I wish we had one more kiss. I'll wait for you... I promised you. I will." I felt my eyelids getting heavy.

"I'm lucky I'm in love with my best friend. Lucky to have been where we have been. Lucky to be coming home again." I had no home really. She was my one and only home. "Lucky we're in love in every way. Lucky to have stayed where we have stayed. Lucky to be coming home someday." Then, my eyes closed.

After a few days, I saw land. And not just any land, an island! Where there would be no zombies! This was where we pointed out on the map of where we'd meet!

I stood up excitedly, saying to her as though she was right next to me. "So I sailed across the sea, to an island where we'll meet. We'll let the music fill the air. I'll put a flower in your hair."

"Through the breezes, through the trees. It's all so pretty, but you're all I see. As the world keeps spinning round. You hold me here right here, right now." Gwen said to me. I held her to myself, smelling her hair. We were free.

"I'm lucky I'm in love with my best friend. Lucky to have been where we have been. Lucky to be coming home again." I fell on the sand, looking to where she would fall again too.

Looking where she fell next to me. She smiled at me.

"I'm lucky we're in love in every way. Lucky to have stayed where we have stayed. Lucky to be coming home someday." She said to me.

I grinned. I made a nice little shelter and set up our supplies. I looked around the island. Then I sat down next to her in the sand, watching the horizon. Forever waiting for her to find me.

OK, so this one was a little sad. I was going to have a nice ending, but I liked this too because it shows Duncan's dedication to Gwen. Even though he went a little crazy...

So the song was Lucky by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat. The pairing was Gwuncan (Gwen and Duncan). Thanks to a guest for suggesting this! Even though I don't exactly support this pairing, I think they would make a really sweet couple. I just think they had a bad start. :/

As always, thanks for reading! And please, don't forget to review the good stuff, the bad stuff, and leave an idea!
