"What did you say to Pan?" Jack questioned me the next day during my training session.

That morning I had been rudely awakened to discover Felix pounding on my door informing me that if I wasn't up and grabbing a sword in, "the next five minutes, I will not hesitate to take your music device and throw it in the fire." Needless to say I was up and out right away. On our way to a small field nearby, Felix informed me that he was training me all day. Observing his voice and how hard he was hitting plants out of his way, I could tell he was upset about something, which pretty much meant that he was going to come at me relentlessly for the whole day. Joy…

Jack showed up about an hour after we had left, and I was doing my best to block Felix's strong attacks. It wasn't unusual for him to come and sit around while I trained with someone. My theory was that he still felt bad about the morning I first saw the boys fighting, so now he came out to give me tips about whatever I was training on. Today he lounged against a fallen tree a few feet away from where Felix and I were sparring.

"What?" I asked him, narrowly sidestepping a thrust from Felix and pushing his sword away with mine.

"What did you say to Pan last night? It seemed like you guys had been getting along, but by the time you and some of the others went to bed after you were done with your Henry Porter story, he told Felix and me that you were training with Felix all day and stormed off into the forest. What happened?" Jack asked again.

Sensing a longer discussion, Felix called a break and went to sit on the log Jack was leaning against. Standing in front of them with my sword-free hand on my hip, I took a minute to catch my breath. "It's Harry Potter and I have no idea. Why do you assume I said something?"

"Because you always say something," Felix pointed out. I sent a glare his way before taking a seat on the ground.

"How am I supposed to know what I said that would piss him off? There is no rhyme or reason to when he gets mad at me."

"Well, recap your conversation then," Jack said.

"God, I don't know. I came back, sat down. He gave me back my other clothes and I thanked him for sending his shadow to find me. Shut up, Felix, I'm capable of saying thank you," I said looking pointedly at him, but he still had a brow raised in doubt. "I told him a friend asked me to give him a chance, and so I was thinking about it. We joked for a minute. Alex came up to ask me a question and I zoned out. Then Pan cleared his throat and asked me what I was thinking about and I said stuff. Next thing I know, he's invading my personal space acting like he was God's greatest gift to anyone. So I knocked him off his high horse, and moved away. I really don't see how this is any different from anything else I've done."

Both of the boys had frowns on their faces while processing the information. Please don't ask me what I said. If there is any mercy in the world, you won't, "Specifically at the end what did you say and do?" ask…

"The end of our conversation something along the lines of him leaning in toward me and telling me I could admit I was thinking about him while I was staring. But since that wasn't what I had been thinking about and he was way too close to me, I kinda snapped and said that he might be attractive, but I've seen better. Then I got up and went to talk to Jack until dinner and story time."

"Bloody hell, I need to find Pan," Jack muttered, getting up and walking into the forest. Looking back to Felix, I could easily see the frustration growing as he glared at me and clenched his mouth shut.

"Get up," he bit out. His posture indicated that I was clearly about to practice my deflecting skills.

"So is no one going to tell me what I apparently did wrong?" I asked getting into stance.

The only noises that were heard between us for the following half hour were the sounds of plants getting stomped under our feet and the clang of metal on metal from the swords and heavy breathing. Felix finally broke the silence saying, "I don't see what Pan sees in you anyway. You have too much freedom."

After being nearly stabbed in my side for the fourth time since Jack left, I was so mad at Felix that all I wanted was for him to lose his sword for a minute and see how it felt to be weaponless. "A majority of the reasons probably have something to do with this," I said as I stared at where he was holding on to his sword. I want his sword. I wish I had it right now, I thought hard. Felix just smirked and started walking closer to me again to get a good jab in, but then stopped when his sword was no longer in his hand. He looked down for a second giving me the chance to cross closer to him with both tips pointed into his chest. "Pinned," I said with a mock smile.

"Well, that would certainly draw in his attention," Felix admitted. I increased the pressure on his chest to let him know our conversation wasn't done. He rolled his eyes before taking in a breath. "In general, when Pan has brought new boys to the island they are so excited and they look up to and listen to him because he's the leader. They follow Pan because he's given them a chance to belong somewhere when they felt like they didn't belong where they were before. You're different. And," he started slowly as if it was a thought he was still working through, "I think he doesn't want you to see him as a bad guy. Pan has never brought new boys here who hate him, but you've disliked him since you met him. Besides that, even if you won't willingly seek him out and talk to him, you'll go ahead and do that to other boys in the camp and get along with them."

"Like Jack?" I asked. Felix gave a slight nod of the head. "Anything else?"

"Is there anyone else who knows about your magic?"

"I don't think it is magic, but no. Pan knows and now you."

"Good. That's something you should keep a secret. But you want another piece of advice? Don't lie or keep secrets from Pan. He always finds out."

Fat chance of me spilling my guts to him anytime soon. "Well, all of your information has been incredibly insightful. Should we get back to this?" I asked tossing Felix's sword off to the side for him to get.

"One last thing," Felix said grabbing his sword from the ground and fixing me with a smirk. "Don't think I'm going to forget that you said you think Pan is attractive."

Rolling my eyes, I responded with, "You wouldn't be so bad on the eyes if you'd do something with that rat's nest of hair you have going on." Felix sneered before striking and moving on with the training. And this is why I wish they hadn't asked.
